The burnt ends brought that deep, savory, slightly charred flavor, while the curry gave it a completely different dimension. The flavors worked well. I just wished the burnt ends were more fatty. We also tried a pork belly dish, which was another highlight. The pork was rich and flavorful, and I loved the crispy fried egg, green beans, cucumber, and fish sauce with it. If you're visiting Portland and want something playful and different, Eem is absolutely worth checking out!

Note: pretty much everything has some spice to it, so for kids, the jasmine rice and yu choy are the main items, though my older daughter did ok with the fried chicken and brisket! I ordered medium and was hoping for a little more of a kick. The menu has plenty to explore with lots of tempting options to try on my next visit. The space itself has a really nice vibe with both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff are absolutely wonderful! Friendly, attentive and welcoming from the moment you walk in. In any event, with the cold grey day we are having today, a bowl of hot ramen soup was the perfect thing to send the overcast blues flying out the window. Today, I had the Veggie Ramen Soup with shrimp & egg along with a cup of jasmine flower tea. The bowl of soup was so big I had to ask for a container to take home what I couldn't eat at lunch. With big huge shrimps and a perfectly poached egg, the noodles and veggies (broccoli, cabbage, bean sprouts, carrots, onions, bok choy) hit the spot. The broth was delicious with the perfect amount of spiciness - my lips were tingling with the heat! (Tip: I asked for a "1" on the spiciness chart and it was spicy. I think it might have actually been a "2" because it was spicy! I like my food spicy but if you don't, maybe ask for a "0".) Ordering is accomplished at the counter, which is on the left when you enter the front door. When I said I needed some soup for a chilly day, the man who took my order suggested the Veggie Ramen. He then asked if I wanted to add anything to it and I requested chicken, although I got those huge beautiful shrimp. (I'll be asking for those shrimp from now on!) Prices are comparable to or less than any other place these days - veggie ramen soup was $12 and the pot of tea that I got at least 3 mugfuls out of was $2.50. Add-ons to the soup like chicken, beef or shrimp are an additional couple of bucks. All decked out for the holidays, my favorite decoration was the Grinch Christmas Tree! Fun and festive! Their rice (and some other dishes) come sealed in plastic containers, not traditional paper take-out containers. Perhaps it is to keep them fresh for travel, but I wondered how long they'd been wrapped up before we ordered. And we didn't connect the orange sauce (in small unmarked plastic) with the orange chicken until some guests had eaten half the chicken. (Not their fault, but a hint would be in order in case the person who serves is not the same person who ordered.) It is likely the most expensive Thai take-out so I expected better. Silly, right? The Pad Se Ew was free of overwhelming flavor. I don't like that everything came in plastic containers. We're working to get away from plastics. There are other good places (Thai Little Home and Thai Wok) to go for takeout that make flavorful dishes. I'll stick with my past-proven favorites.

Also got the rainbow, California and unagi roll. All very delicious. They had a deal with a free California roll if you order $50. Overall makes this a very good deal. They definitely struggle with efficiency and im not sure if im a fan of the half open kitchen with the air fryer and microwave on the open side. I would return for sure. Hope for more items.
