Unfortunately, our experience at the end of the meal really changed how we felt about the restaurant. A different employee, who was not our waiter, came over while we were paying. My sister was planning to leave a $14 tip, but the employee rejected it and told us, "No honey, we do 18%," while explaining that they live off tips. What really bothered me was that she then grabbed the pen out of my hand and wrote in an 18% tip herself, which came out to $23.57. I did not personally write or agree to that amount. In the moment, I was honestly caught off guard and overwhelmed by what had just happened. I completely understand that restaurant employees rely heavily on tips, and we had every intention of leaving one. But a tip should be the customer's decision. An employee should never take the pen from a customer and fill in the tip amount themselves. It's unfortunate because we genuinely enjoyed the food and had no issue with our actual waiter. This one interaction turned what had been a really good experience into an uncomfortable one. I hope management addresses situations like this because customers should never feel pressured into a specific tip or have an employee fill it in for them.

One of My Favorite Meals in Nashville…read more Whenever I travel for work, I make it a point to seek out authentic, locally loved restaurants instead of the usual chains. I first found Onda about a year ago during a previous trip to Nashville, and it's become one of those places I try to visit every time I'm back in town. Onda's name comes from the Korean word meaning "to come," and that's exactly how it feels. It's an inviting, modern Korean restaurant that celebrates traditional cuisine with thoughtful hospitality. The restaurant itself is beautiful--a bright glass-front corner space in Midtown that's clean, contemporary, and welcoming. Parking couldn't have been easier with a dedicated lot right across the street, and I believe they also offer outdoor seating, although on this rainy visit everyone was happily inside. My go-to is always the L.A. Kalbi, and Onda absolutely nails it. The marinated beef short ribs arrived sizzling over caramelized onions on a cast-iron platter, filling the table with that unmistakable sweet soy aroma. The meat was tender, beautifully caramelized, and pulled effortlessly from the bone. Every bite reminded me why this is one of my favorite Korean dishes. The meal came with a generous assortment of banchan, and honestly, those little side dishes are half the experience for me. The kimchi had just the right balance of tang and spice, the potatoes were comforting and delicious, the crisp pickled vegetables and radish added that refreshing bite that perfectly balanced the richness of the beef, and every little dish complemented the meal beautifully. The rice also deserves a mention. It wasn't plain white rice but a darker grain blend served piping hot in an adorable little copper bowl with its own lid. It's those thoughtful touches that make a meal memorable. I usually judge a Korean restaurant by two things: the quality of the kalbi and the banchan. Onda excels at both. Their menu also offers everything from japchae, bulgogi, seafood pancakes, tteokbokki, soft tofu stew, kalbitang, Korean fried chicken, kimchi fried rice, and traditional Korean barbecue favorites to creative dishes like kimchi arancini, plus cocktails, soju, makgeolli, and even milk bingsoo for dessert. What also stood out was the atmosphere. The dining room was filled with people who clearly knew and appreciated Korean food, which always gives me confidence that a restaurant is doing something right. The service was warm and welcoming, and checkout was quick and easy using a handheld payment app. Perhaps the biggest surprise? The value. Around the country, L.A. Kalbi often costs well over $35. Onda's was just $28, and the portion was generous enough that I couldn't even make room for dessert--even though I was eyeing the milk bingsoo and homemade madeleines. Nashville's food scene continues to impress me, and Onda has earned a permanent place on my list of must-visit restaurants whenever I'm in town. Life is too short not to eat well. If you love Korean food--or you're simply curious to explore it--put Onda on your list. I don't think you'll leave disappointed.

We started off with a round of champagne and a bottle of red wine for dinner. We tried a variety of dishes since we were told that the set up is family style: Hamachi Crudo: 10/10 one of the best I've ever had! Super fresh and the sauce paired well with it. Bluefin Tune Crudo: 8/10 It was really fresh and well prepared, but I've had better elsewhere. I typically prefer bluefin tuna sashimi or nigiri anyway. Tuna Crispy Rice: 9/10 This was such a fun and delicious way to eat spicy tuna! All of the seasonings made it packed full of flavor. Tomahawk Ribeye 9/10: This was insanely tender, and well seasoned. Tip: ask for lemon wedges to sprinkle some lemon juice on it--thank me later. Broccolini 8/10: well prepared, and I loved the lemongrass garlic chili that topped it East Side Shrimp 7/10: These were well cooked and well seasoned. Loved the salad placed underneath it. Wagyu Tartare 8/10: It was well prepared and loved that it's paired with nori and rice. Wished it had a bit more punch to it in terms of seasoning. Crab Fried Rice 8/10: this was delicious but still say it's a solid 8. Beautifully prepared! Korean Hot Wings 2.5/10: I could tell that it was well cooked, but it was insanely salty; it was practically inedible. Hurricane Fries 9/10: These were so delicious! You are immediately hit with the smell of truffle, which made my mouth water. Packed with flavor! Brussels 7/10: These were well roasted, but the sauce was a tad too sweet for my liking. I highly recommend trying this place out!

By the bar we got to see some of the dishes being made. Great date night spot. Limited parking. This is a tapas spot and our serve did a good job recommending how many dishes to get. The only reason Noko is not getting 5 stars is because the server said that they would time out the dishes for us, so it was best to place our entire order all at once. However, we got 3 dishes and then it took about 30 minutes for other two to come out. Maybe we were eating too fast but felt like we were waiting a while for our food. The food itself was absolutely delicious. There was nothing we ordered that I did not like. Some favorites include the burnt ends lettuce wraps and Korean chicken wings. The Sando, shrimp and tuna crispy rice was also spectacular. The tuna was so flavorful and refreshing on the tuna crispy rice. The sauce of the east side shrimp really makes the dish. I'm not a huge shrimp person but this was really good. This is a must go to spot in Nashville and would definitely want to come back.

Found an absolute hidden gem in Franklin tonight!…read more Mi Kitchen delivered from start to finish. The atmosphere immediately caught our attention--creative, intimate, colorful, and just a really cool vibe. Then the food came out and somehow managed to match the setting. We tried the beef tacos, soy garlic wings, glass noodles, and steak, and everything was packed with flavor and beautifully presented. The steak was cooked perfectly, the wings were crispy and loaded with flavor, and those beef tacos definitely deserve another visit of their own. ‍ What really completed the experience was the service. Gene was awesome--friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel genuinely welcomed throughout dinner. Great food, great atmosphere, excellent service, and reasonable prices for the quality. It's always a win when you stumble across a place you weren't expecting and leave already thinking about what you're ordering next time. Mi Kitchen is officially on the repeat list. Five stars easily.

From the food to the service, everything exceeded our expectations. The first thing that stood out was their small plate concept, and I absolutely loved it. I enjoy trying a variety of dishes instead of committing to just one entrée, and this concept is something I wish more restaurants would adopt. We ended up trying almost half the menu and loved nearly every dish. A huge shout-out to our server, Nestor. He welcomed us warmly, was cheerful throughout the evening, and his recommendations were spot on. He truly made the dinner even more enjoyable. We started with a couple of mocktails, and the Purple Haze was refreshing and delicious. Here are some of our favorites: MI Cucumber - Smashed cucumber with soy dressing, crunchy chili oil, and cilantro. Simple, refreshing, and packed with flavor. Plantain - Fried plantains topped with sriracha goat cheese, cilantro, and crunchy gremolata. The sriracha goat cheese paired perfectly with the sweet plantains. K-Pop Chicken - Korean sweet and spicy popcorn chicken with great flavor and a perfect balance of sweetness and heat. Dumplings - Homemade steamed dumplings with edamame, truffle, yuzu ponzu, and garlic confit. I really enjoyed the truffle flavor, though it may not be for everyone. Kimchi Bacon Risotto - Caramelized kimchi, applewood smoked bacon, tomato, and shrimp. One of the best dishes of the night--perfectly cooked with incredible flavor. Crispy Spicy Tuna - Spicy mayo tuna served over crispy rice. This was one of the highlights of the meal. The crispy rice was absolutely perfect. Cauliflower Taco - Crispy cauliflower with guacamole, creamy miso, and tsiran spice. The filling was flavorful, and the cauliflower was cooked perfectly. Lamb Chops - This was the only dish that felt average. The lamb was cooked well, but it was missing a bit of flavor. A little more seasoning, especially some salt, would have really elevated the dish. To finish the meal, we had the Banana Pudding with Vanilla Gelato, which was a delicious and satisfying way to end dinner. Overall, MI Kitchen completely exceeded our expectations. Amazing food, a fun small-plate concept, and outstanding service from Nestor made this a memorable experience. We'll definitely be back to explore the rest of the menu!
