LUNCH SPECIAL RIP-OFF (long but detailed)
So Kogii Kogii, which is still the signage outside, was easily one of the worst customer service-based restaurant experiences I (and many, many) others had had. The new restaurant, "K-Arirang" was supposed to be a new experience, as apparently, the ownership had changed. Allegedly.
The lunch specials, which are written and posted on the wall (they probably don't rotate this btw) when you walk in, advertise some pretty good lunch special prices (very important. More on this later.)
We seated ourselves as the server did not even acknowledge we came in (uh oh). The restaurant itself is clean, customers were seated and eating. So far so good.
We ordered the LA galbi and the spicy beef soup...both of which are on the LUNCH menu. Portions came out and were pretty generous, which is what you want to see in a restaurant, especially a new one.
The food was decent, side dishes (banchan) were served in small sets (1 set per customer). The cook/owner(?) even came out and asked if we needed any refills. Note, the cook/owner said this, not the server.
Then came the bill. Our bill was double what the lunch specials should have been. When we asked why, the server gave us a weird look and said, "Oh, you have to say 'lunch special' when you order. I thought you wanted the dinner portion."
Wait, really?? Who orders dinner portions when there are lunch specials? It was noon. People who order during lunch probably want the lunch specials, and if there's a question, shouldn't the server ask, not assume? Wouldn't you know to ask? I'm not ok with paying $50 for a lunch for 2 that should have been half.
We didn't want to cause a fuss, but we did question it loudly enough other customers definitely heard. We paid the bill, but now we leave with a negative experience. I mean, if this is how they're going to conduct business, I wonder if the ownership did not change after all and they just rebranded bc Kogii Kogii was such a dishonest rip-off before.
All that said, be careful when ordering. MAKE SURE YOU SAY YOU WANT THE LUNCH SPECIAL OR THEY'LL CHARGE YOU FULL PRICE. (And at full price, you really should give more than 7 or 8 small pieces of galbi...would never come here for dinner if this is what they charge and give you.)
2 stars bc at least the food was ok. The prices weren't.
TL;DR - Good (enough) food, BE CAREFUL AND SAY YOU WANT THE LUNCH SPECIAL BECAUSE THEY MAY OVERCHARGE YOU. (Might still be under Kogii Kogii ownership, just a new name) read more
