Beef bulgogi
Andres M.

Absolutely fantastic experience at Golden Durebak! We started with the dumplings as an appetizer, and they were delicious. For our main dishes, we had the beef bulgogi and the chicken fried rice, and both were outstanding--full of flavor and perfectly prepared. They also brought us a variety of unique side spices and seasonings that I had never tasted before, and they were excellent. Every bite was enjoyable, and the overall experience exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended!

Very traditional and homey. Everything was cooked well and came out fast. Dumplings have good texture. Tofu and glass noodles inside. Overall had a good experience, though at the same time wasn't necessarily blown away by any of the banchan, jjigae, or mandu.

Seafood hot pot
L H.

Came on a Sunday around 1pm Not another soul in sight, did I make the right decision? We'll know in a few. Ordered seafood hot pot, LA Galbi and fried potstickers The fried potstickers were tasty but dripping in oil, so I would probably not order again. I prefer steamed anyway. The seafood hotpot and LA Galbi are truly delicious. Tons of different seafood, very nice! The broth is just spicy enough to be super tasty! Lots of delicious Ban Chan, always a fav! First impression was definitely different than the overall experience. Will be back

Bimbibop
Tina T.

When we walked in on a Friday night for dinner, the place was quiet and casual. The food was good. Kalbi marinated meat is always a favorite. The Bimbibop in the stone pot was good. It was piping hot and had the "rice crust" at the bottom of the stone pot which I typically love, but it was so hot it was burned on the bottom and make the rice taste burnt. The staff was warm, smiley and friendly. I was a little disappointed with how long it took to prepare the food. Toward the end of the meal, I put in an order to take home. We waited for an additional hour for a one dish order to take home. So, while the food was satisfying, just be prepared to wait a while for food to be prepared and served.

Spicy pork belly
Ye L.

Came here for an early weekday lunch and the place was pretty empty. Service was friendly without being overbearing. I got spicy pork belly and what I got reminded me a lot of (Chinese) twice-cooked pork. A big portion with plenty to go home. The restaurant is simple and feels family owned, but amusingly there were constantly somewhat old k-pop girl group music videos playing. Kind of a quirky charm.

New favorite Korean restaurant in the burbs. So many options, extremely fresh, and very authentic!

Dol Sot Bibimbop
Camilla M.

Really delicious and flavorful food, and probably the best place for bibimbob in the chicago suburbs! They give you a big bottle of gochujang sauce, so you can add as much as you want :) My dish also came with lots of sides like kimchi, pickled radish, broccoli, beansprouts, and beansprout soup. A nice accommodation was that they let me change out the beef topping with tofu for no change in price, so I would say they are vegetarian friendly :)

Gamjatang
Jemie T.

The soup was amazing and I'm from California but I never had Korean food this good I am shockingly amazed I'm definitely coming back for the Gamjatang and try other food as well

LA Galbi
Serena D.

I think this place was pretty good, but felt that the dishes lacked a bit of flavor?? I definitely want to try the soups because other reviews recommend it! I definitely recommend getting the LA Galbi!

seolloengtang (ox bone soup)
Selena S.

Ordered seolloengtang and yukgaejang and both were great!! wish it was a little spicier, but overall it was fresh and authentic tasting. One of the better restaurant quality yukgaejangs i've had. Thought the price was fair as well. This was a nice little local restaurant with friendly staff and home-y vibes. I will definitely be back. I bet they taste even better during the winter!

Strip mall storefront to the right of nearby "Fresh Market"

Good meal, typical Korean comfort food was decent. SURPRISING... and different, there was the menu item "Tteok Su" which is my favorite rice cake stew... often only served in winter seasons only, if ever. Dol Sot Bibimbap and Spicy Tofu Soup and Beef Bulgogi rounded out the takeout. They bonbon was basic, the kitchen just big bland and basic. Good place if you prefer my family style real Korean vs the trendy fusions run amok lately with the Kpop. Reminds of Pusan in Mt. Prospect also good.

Fried dumpling
Betty C.

We were wanting Bulgogi and found this place on Yelp. Wow! Yummy food! We sat there for a while and chatted a lot between bites of food and no one tried to chase us out but they were there in an instant if they thought we needed something. Definitely a great surprise we found on our trip to Chicago.

And, dare I say, better version. Except for their avgolemeno soup. Such a weak travesty. Please fix this. It's just a watery mess. However, everything else is delicious. I ordered the Greek Chicken with their lemon-butter rice. They debone the chicken and serve atop a mountain of their rice. If also had their potatoes (which are good) but the rice is magical. The first time we went, they had a serve yourself soda fountain and they since got rid of it and sell soda in bottles and cans. They do still have a self-serve water station. Once you order, staff will bring to your table, so please tip when you order or leave on the table as they do come by and clear your table as well. Best we had was the Roditis, which is a rosé from Corinthia. It's about $8 for the Hummus. Comes with lots of pita bread. The rest of the menu is meaty. Great place located on Rand at Chestnut. It's closed Mondays. There's the hummus for vegetarians.

Out of curiosity, I decided to check it out. Located across from the railroad tracks and near the Metra station, Dario's is a local institution that serves up tasty sandwiches and more. I liked their sandwiches options on the menu. The variety was good. I ordered their Fiesta Panini that's made with pulled pork, habañero aioli, muenster cheese, red peppers, red onions, and avocado. I wanted something to drink and I saw that they have homemade lemonade with cool, different flavors. I got me a small Guava Lemonade. My panini was freshly prepared. It had a good flavor w/ a nice kick of heat from the habañero aioli (but not spicy in the typical habañero flavor sense). The pulled pork was delicious in taste and texture along with the toppings of muenster cheese, the habañero aioli, red peppers, red onions, and avocado. I should've eaten only one half of the sandwich but I couldn't resist having more, so I finished it. The panini was darn delicious. I liked the restaurant's cozy dining area with outside light coming in. They have a nice patio area as well which would be perfect to sit at on a nice weather day. The staff were friendly and helpful. I liked Dario's a lot and will be going for more. Check them out.

However, my issue is that I went in with one other person and we ordered two paninis and two cans of sprite (one of each for each of us), with one salad bowl to share. It was $55 dollars after tax. Maybe it's me but it seems like a lot. The service isn't really a question here. It's not bad. They call your name, you grab your food, and bus your own table when you're done. Pretty standard. However, If they did that for you, the price wouldn't bother me as much because thats a proper service. To talk a bit about the restaurant itself, it's small with more space to eat outside than inside, but thats just lovely right now in the summer. The place looks clean too. They had complimentary coffee which was nice. The staff are reasonably young. Probably late high school or freshmen in college but that doesn't mean they can't do a good job. Overall, I don't know if I'd recommend this place to everyone. Im conflicted. I like big portions and quality foods of course, and this was great in flavor, just pricey. To reference the surrounding area, I can go here, or to Emits across the street which is consider the finest dining in downtown Palatine past the Argentinean Bendita and Bella Pizza, and spend around the same amount of money. Still the best panini I've had in a while though.

The Megrulian Khachapuri is traditional Georgian flat bread, made from a yeast dough and baked with a savory cheese filling, and a second layer of cheese baked on top. Served in a bowl with its natural juices topped with thin sliced onions, it was perfectly seasoned, tender, and cooked to a perfect medium rare as we had requested. A side of the Georgian version of ketchup was an excellent accompaniment, tart, tasting of garlic and herbs with just a bit of heat. I tried the Chkmeruli (garlic chicken) and khachapuri. Both were decent enough, but at around $45 total, I kept waiting for the "wow, this is worth it" moment that never really arrived. The khachapuri was fine, the chicken was fine... everything was just aggressively okay. To be fair, your mileage may vary. I may have caught them on an off night, and clearly other people there were enjoying themselves. Since then, we have happily added Drop the Bop to our takeout rotation list. What is so amazing is, both our daughter and myself are not into salads or veggies, and each time we pick Drop the Bop is like a small miracle. There has never been a bowl of fast food made of fresh veggies and meats and rice that tastes so great, and make us feel so good after eating it, but Drop the Bop does it! My husband and daughter picked the All-In bowls from the Yelp experience, and I had the build-a-bowl. Since then, we have been purchasing the All-In bowls every time. All the different ingredients are so fresh and delicious, they contribute to make a complex tapestry of tastes and textures, but all work together harmoniously. We always pick the black rice that has similar texture to sushi rice, that tastes fantastically and holds everything well together. Hubby and Daughter like the carpaccio sauce the best, that is light and not overpowering, while I favor the Yum Yum sauce as it is just yummy! We all like the seaweed soup that is delicious and not too salty. Drop the Bop is a hidden gem in Lincolnshire. Phillip, the young owner, always works so hard and is very resourceful. He teamed up with Yelp to introduce the small business to us Yelpers was a great idea. If you collect AA miles, Drop the Bop also helps you add more miles each time you purchase with your designated credit card. He even comes up with buy 10 get 1 free to encourage you to keep coming back. For us, just their bowls are good enough to make us keep returning. I hope they will keep doing well and growing forever.

Since we were introduced to Drop the Bop two years ago via a Yelp Community Experience, we have been returning from time to time to get their bowls. Each bowl contains bop (rice) with your choices of veggies and meats similar to Korean bibimbap! What makes DTB stands out from other businesses is that their ingredients are consistently very fresh, the bowls are delicious with generous portions. They offer the most healthy and delicious fast food that our family love! We love their All-In bowls that contain every veggie and meat that you can think of, and we choose black rice instead of white rice as the yummy base. I usually pick the Carpaccio sauce (out of 8 different sauces) on the side, which provides a "fresh citrus taste combined with olive oil and a hint of jalapeño and black pepper" that has a nice kick to the bowl. I always pick the seaweed soup over miso soup as well. Phillip, who is the very friendly owner of DTB, seems to be always working there. I saw him every time I went to pick up our orders. Funny thing was that he gave me a punch card that offered buy 10 bowls get one for free. I have misplaced several of those cards. Phillip said that I could combine several of those cards to get a free bowl once the total slots punched add to 10. It would be OK with me that I never find all my cards to get that offer. To me, the bowls at DTB is worth every penny, and I don't mind paying full price for each one of them.

And thank God for that. The place is gloriously old-school. The booths, the coffee, the menu, the clientele... everything feels like it belongs to an America where breakfast cost 8 bucks, nobody photographed their eggs, and every restaurant had at least one guy named Gus somewhere near the kitchen. Ryan and I ordered omelettes, because this is exactly the kind of place where ordering anything called "avocado toast" should get you escorted from the building. Then came the real magic: They brought bread first. Bread. Before breakfast. Like civilized people. Not some microscopic artisan biscuit served on slate. Actual diner bread, delivered with the confidence of a restaurant that knows carbohydrates built this country. The omelettes were excellent. Big, hot, filling, completely unconcerned with presentation, and exactly what an omelette should be. Nobody tried to drizzle anything over them. Nobody introduced us to the chickens. Nobody told us the feta had "notes." It was breakfast. Beautiful, uncomplicated breakfast. Now we need to discuss the P.O.A. Index. Catastrophic. The dining room looked like somebody had chartered a bus from an active-living community and accidentally dropped everyone off for brunch. Every direction I looked, another person appeared to be discussing property taxes, statins, or what their grandson is doing at Northwestern. The Index was circling zero. Then Aria appeared. Gold shoes. Hot. Like somebody had accidentally dropped a nightclub hostess into a Greek diner full of people who remember when FDR was president. Those shoes were doing heroic work. For a brief moment, hope returned. But ultimately, this was not that kind of evening. We ate omelettes, drank iced tea, watched senior citizens methodically destroy pancakes, and accepted the crushing reality that sometimes a man goes to eat simply to have food. And you know what? It was great. Five stars. Excellent omelettes. Bread before the meal. Pure Greek-diner nostalgia. A horrifyingly low P.O.A. Index briefly rescued by Aria's gold shoes.
