I am a huge fan of the soup, salad and dessert options here. Today I tried a "pick 2" option with a turkey bacon avocado sandwich and the curry soup. Delivery wasn't available so I did pick up through the drive thru. Food was amazing; love the option to add-on extras to the soup like white rice. The portion size was great; I got side of bread, crackers, and chocolate dipped strawberry free with my meal. Only thing I found odd was the drive thru. There is an outside lane for orders placed ahead. I was confused where to park. Other than that this is a great spot for a bite. It's conveniently located off lake cook. We order from the app or do drive thru about once a week as a family. 90% of the time when ordering from the app, they get our 5 entrees correct. The food is great. The chicken enchilada soup is amazing. I personally like the harvest quinoa salad. The problem occurs every time we use the drive thru touch screen. This time they didn't have my salad but when we went inside, they offered it. My wife tries to use the touchscreen outside and it's just buggy. You spend time customizing the entree and then can't submit at the bottom. It's laggy and ends up frustrating as you reach out of your window uncomfortably to tap tap tap. I bet many people just drive off. We go inside and order and the lady assembling the food is just rude. We dined in on Saturday, June 29. We ordered on the app to get our rewards, but we told the girl at the counter we were dining in. She said we had to get it "to go" since the app doesn't allow for dine in. She was very rude and unaccommodating. Two other employees seemed to be ok with our request and were able to give us at most of our items on plates and in bowls. This girl that was expo'ing orders was rude and clearly did not want to be there and didn't want to deal with customers. The drink station will make your heart flutter. FLUTTER. But possibly the high point of my visit was watching numerous patrons struggle with the apparent slowness of the drive through ordering system. Not sure what happened to this place. It went from "acceptable" to "horrific" in about the time it takes to fry an egg atop any one of the filthy, unbussed, tables that abounded and surrounded us one week ago during our recent, and last, visit to the place. We especially enjoyed interacting with the "Vanilla Ice" wannabee working behind the counter. Not sure if his inability to say "please" and "thank you" when checking out consumers who were about to pay $32.00 for fare that was about $25.00 overpriced was the result of poor socialization, bad or non-existent training or suboptimal dentition but perhaps the Zupa brain trust can work on that. We all understand how difficult it is to find motivated, capable and hard working staff but surely other organizations have done so, why not this one at this particular location? We arrived on site at about 5:10 PM on the evening in question and there were two other diners in this robust establishment. Despite that, unbussed tables with refuse atop trays were left sitting in multiple locations. the five employees I counted, including "Vanilla Ice" himself, were standing behind the counter, doing absolutely nothing, zilch, to address this. Zupas as a concept is an excellent establishment but should anybody doubt the importance of recruiting, hiring, training and cultivating capable staff , please be sure to check out this location. Maybe, just maybe, on the day of your visit, the tables will be pristine and "Vanilla" will emulate Janis Eon about learning "the truth at 17" or whatever the hell it is that passes for music in that peyote universe residing between presumably two auditory canals. read more

I've tried Cafe Zupas a couple times in the past and each time I didn't enjoy it. It's pricey and I'm not a fan of the flavors. The wait time was okay. The red pepper lobster bisque was decent needed a bit of salt. The mushroom bisque was delicious. Both soups were just warm, not hot. The drive thru kiosk is set at such an angle it is difficult to access, even from a minivan. The electronic menu asks a bunch of questions and is confusing to go through. Don't bother asking for help. There is no button or way to actually get a human being to help you. Don't forget to add your name since they ask you for it multiple times even if you are the only person in drive thru. Staff is not welcoming. Three interactions with different staff and each made me feel like I was not supposed to use the drive thru since they were busy doing something else... gaming, having a party, solving world problems, but waiting on customers was beneath them. Wow -- if I told you I was taking you to a restaurant where the food isn't very sugary or salty and the star of each entree is not the meat, you'd probably think I was taking you to eat something tasteless. Cafe Zupas is one of those restaurants that changes your perception of fresh and healthy with top quality ingredients sourced from quality suppliers - local when possible. The food is beautiful and the prices are surprisingly reasonable. Dishes are made from scratch, which is apparent in flavor and texture. The restaurant looks very modern and attractive and is kept meticulously clean. They also offer a unique assortment of raw honey drinks (try orange berry) and flavor shots (like Monin) that you can enjoy. Cuban grilled pork: The pork and the pickles match in perfect harmony. The pork shoulder is tender (and glad it's all in 1 large cut rather than shredded), although it could be a bit more juicy. Overall the sandwich is well constructed and not too salty with the dijon mustard tying everything together perfectly. Honey Cilantro Carnitas: The chili lime spread works really well in tandem with the pickled red onions and creamy avocado. Light and delicious. Pesto chicken: Quite flavorful, but I found the chicken to be lost in the flavor of the pesto and muenster cheese. Fortunately, there are sprouts, tomato, and sweet red peppers to make sure the sandwich doesn't taste too salty. Honey bacon club: The bacon really shines through, even with the turkey, ham, and cheese. The sweetness of the honey-mustard isn't too noticeable though with all the savory ingredients. Ultimate grilled cheese: If eating vegetarian was always this delicious, I would probably eat vegetarian more often. Bread was grilled perfectly crispy and had great texture contrast with the gooey cheese inside. The fresh tomato complemented the pesto sauce perfectly. With every bite, I could feel myself eating healthy -- but this was far from tasteless. Asian citrus chicken: A bit light on the amount of chicken, but the fruits and vegetables were very fresh and flavorful in the salad. I really hate salads made from canned or dried fruits so I was delighted when this salad screamed "fresh" with every bite. The best part of the salad for me was the flavor contrast between the mandarin oranges, ti-color peppers, and yuzu miso vinaigrette. Strawberry harvest chicken: The mix of apples, strawberries, and dried cranberries work really well here in synergy to pair with the chicken. Maui tropical chicken: Addictive pineapple vinaigrette really helps to enhance the flavors of the mango and peppers. The wonton strips and macadamia nuts provide a great crunchy contrast. Nuts about berries: The cinnamon almonds and addictive poppyseed dressing really steal the show in this salad. The plump blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, and raspberries provide a great variety in the salad, but I wish they were a little sweeter. Tomato basil with orzo pasta: Great vegetable flavors -- sweet with a very hearty flavor of celery. The soup itself is a bit thicker, almost a puree texture -- which matches perfectly with the fluffy roll. The parmesean was put on top of the soup to allow for a distinction of textures and flavors. The orzo was soft and matched perfectly with the rest of the soup. . New England clam chowder: Creamy -- but pretty light in flavor. The celery and potato flavors come out strong and overpower the clam. Roasted red pepper and lobster: Creamy with a strong pepper flavor -- good amount of lobster. Creme brulee - Mixed berry one is delicious. Fresh cream, fresh berries, fluffy custard. The egg flavor really shines in the custard here which is silky smooth and delights the mouth with each bite. When you mix the fresh cream together with it, it creates a heavenly, velvety... delicious concoction of rich, flavorful dairy. Definitely a must try item -- the synergy between the different elements is fantastic. Chocolate mousse cake - Delicious chocolate cake, the fresh cream really shines. Caramel rockslide brownie: Rich, Dense delicious chocolate is evident with every bite. Despite the generous amount of caramel that tops this brownie, it is actually easy to separate the flavors and textures (brownie is chewy, caramel is sticky, and walnuts are crisp). Well done and delicious. Chocolate covered strawberry - The strawberry could be a little more plump and sweet, but you quickly forget about this as you taste the delicious Pate a Glacer Cacao Barry chocolate. The high fat content instant gives you a premium feeling as the sweet chocolate melts in your mouth. Overall, on every dish there are very clear themes, flavors, colors, and textures that are presented. Cafe Zupas makes eating fresh and healthy exciting and affordable. Fortunately, this wonderful food is also matched with a beautiful, comfortable modern environment. I was impressed with the greeting while in line, a greeter took the time to explain the menu so by the time I got to the counter, it was basically a no brainer for me. I ordered a combo meal - turkey bacon sandwich and a half bowl of clam chowda. There are several sandwiches, soups and salads to choose from and I just felt like having some avocado in my sandwich for lunch. I understand that the location is new and I really like the restaurant for being so bright, airy and clean. Plenty of parking and seating. My only constructive critique is that they check people out as quickly as possible because your soup is not as hot as it could be by the time you get to your table. I love Cafe Zupas but not this location. I tried to place an online order and it didn't go through. Hubby called and inquired about our order since we had used a coupon code. The girl who answered the phone was quite rude and she was also just as rude in person. When hubby arrived to get the food he was told to wait for our order but when he was almost home he realized that our soups were completely missing from our order. This is new place that opened up in Buffalo Grove. It reminds me of Panera Bread but only better. The options are all amazing the most the products are home made. The fruits and veggies is all hand picked from local areas. The inside is really nice and very well lit up. They also have a section where you can charge your cell phones and plenty of seating areas. It does get packed a lot during lunch/dinner time. They have pick two options with the salads and soups. The sandwiches do not come part of the pick two. I got me a Mangoberry salad with Chicken Enchilada Chili soup. The mangoberry salad came with creamy House-Made Mango dressing house-chopped mixed greens, and topped with diced mango, fresh blueberries, sliced strawberries, and cinnamon almonds. This salad tasted amazing everything about it was so good I couldn't get enough of it. The Chicken Enchilada soup was also very tasty and flavorful. I've also tried few of the other salads and also soups and each one were very good and flavorful. I've tried plenty of the sandwiches as well and all taste great my personal favorite would be the Turkey Bacon Avocado. Cafe Zupas is a refreshing concept in the area: a fresh, better-for-you, fast-casual joint that serves up a delicious array of soups, sandwiches, and desserts. My fave is the complimentary chocolate covered strawberry that accompany meals; what a thoughtful, delightful touch! Pricing is incredibly reasonable given the quality and quantity of food. I especially love their Chipotle Glazed Pork Salad and Mexicali Braised Pork Quinoa Bowl (their pork is very good.) Also love their infused fruit beverages crafted with raw honey and various fruits and herbs. There's also countertop seating and outlets throughout; each visit I've seen professionals plugged in and typing away while enjoying a meal here. Coworkers and I have come here at least 4x for lunch, and staff are consistently friendly and simply amazing. Cafe Zupas definitely gives Panera a run for its money. I picked up a call-ahead order on August 25th. After driving all the way to my destination, I was shocked to see an extremely burnt & inedible grilled cheese sandwich. The cheese was brown/black throughout & the bread was as hard as a rock. Seeing as I had just paid $17 for 2 soups & this sandwich, I called to see if I could have my order refunded to my card. The manager said they were 'unable to do that because it was a pickup order' which to me, makes absolutely no sense. They offered to replace my sandwich if I came back, I was already 20 minutes away so that was not happening. All in all, Zupas has been a favorite of mine for a long time. From the outside on a dark winter night - the restaurant stands out - as the bright white signage and bright interior resembles a jewelry store (a pretty bright gem in my discovery none-the-less). Zupas fills the vacuum of a go-to place for healthy, creative, fresh food made daily from scratch (not poured out from a reheated plastic bag). To order - stand in a queue then as you progress through the line - you pay at the cashier who asks "what did you order again". Pick up your food and then grab a seat. The line was busy that if you wanted dessert - probably best to just grab it on the first order (unless they allow you to just pay the cashier and avoid the line again). The restaurant was particularly busy on a Tuesday evening when I visited. The concept is fairly good - one price soup ($6.39), one price for salads/and quioa bowls ($7.79), one price for sandwiches ($5.69),. Combos are all a common price (try-2-combo $8.99). Kid's meal $4.19. Pricing is generally under $10 per person w/ drink. I enjoy trying multiple items - so I had the crab-avocado w/ bacon panini (who could resist a panini and without upcharge because its real crab?) a Cubano panini (with ham and pulled pork), Cali protein cobb salad, a half clam chowder. (two combos) the sandwiches were good- nicely pressed and toasted, warm sandwiches. The crab was mildly spicy, and the cubano was a hit with my 3 year old. Clam chowder was a good helping and was warm. Cubano pulled pork was a bit dry - very lean (I prefer a bit more fat) but it was still yummy.
