Delores L.

Today, I am back at the JW Marriott Austin, located at 110 E 2nd Street, for the double-digit year in support of the Heart Association. When the alarm rang at 5 am this morning, my natural inclination was to hit the snooze button. My hubby was on high alert to not let me hit snooze and to drag me out bed, if necessary. Fortunately, I got up on my own and no one was harmed in my awakening process. Smile. The Heart Association's mission is "...improving cardiovascular health, reducing deaths from heart disease and stroke, and promoting overall wellness for people of all ages." Heart disease is near and dear to my heart because my mother passed away from heart disease many years ago. Every year I volunteer at this luncheon in addition to making charitable donations to the Heart Association. They had their annual fundraiser luncheon to raise funds for Heart related diseases. The JW Marriott is the premiere hotel of the Marriott properties with an upscale feel and large venue. One of the best parts of volunteering for the Heart Association is that it is a well-oiled machine. Volunteers were contacted weeks before the luncheon. In addition, we received information regarding shift times and associated responsibilities, arrival instructions, parking guidance, and dress code requirements. Since one of my duties on my shift included registration, I had a separate onsite training for registration protocols. The event itself embodied purpose and heart with posters along with compelling stories of heart disease and related disease survivors. This event was successful primarily due to the volunteers and, of course, generous donors. As guests come up the escalators or elevators they were greeted with a huge Texas welcome. The ballroom décor, especially the giant inflatable heart and floral arrangements were eye-catching and immediately drew you in. The keynote speaker Eliz Greene Arthur of "Stress-Proof your Heart" shared how to manage your capacity by 1) identifying early warning signs such as headache or pain 2) interrupt the reaction with deep breaths or keep your body fueled and 3) recover and refill your tank (read, lie on the beach, watch the sunset). She said stress is a powerball risk...little scary. Overall, the Heart Association Luncheon at the JW Marriott was well-executed and attended. Whether live or written testimonials, all were extremely compelling! It brought together volunteers, donors, and the community to support the Heart association's life‑saving efforts. After my early morning shift, I stayed for the luncheon. The luncheon included baked chicken with ricotta and broccolini along assorted breast. Dessert included a chocolate cake and baked Alaska. The Heart Association raised $100,000+ for their fundraiser. The JW Marriott hotel is a beautiful with spectacular chandeliers, modern looking furniture and attractive fixtures. It has very pleasant surroundings.

This is a very large four-star hotel with a prime location in downtown Austin. They only had room availability for two queen beds on the 6th floor, which I think is the lowest or 2nd lowest floor you can stay on, so the view was subpar. The room was clean. The pool and Edge Rooftop (bar) are on the 5th floor, so there isn't much of a view either because it is obstructed by buildings. Parking was over $50 a night, so I reserved with SpotHero for a much lower rate and parked in the Frost Bank Tower garage. The lobby is huge, and the line to the front desks was very long when we went to check out. At one point, housekeeping opened the door to the room while I was asleep, even though I had the do not disturb sign on the door handle. I read another review that had a similar complaint. I feel like this is a pretty big deal as I would expect my privacy to be respected when I have the sign on the door, especially at a big-name hotel like this one. You have to pay for wifi or sign up for a free membership, which I know is a thing at all the Marriott hotels, but it is very inconvenient, and I had so much trouble getting the sign-up page to pop up. The "welcome beverage" for being a Marriott Bonvoy member was a bottle of water.

I recently stayed at the JW Marriott Austin (Downtown) for a one-night getaway with my boyfriend. Overall, the stay was okay, but there were several issues that made the experience disappointing. Check-in is supposed to be guaranteed at 3 PM, but our room wasn't ready until well after 5 PM. After finally getting into the room, I ordered room service and we ended up just crashing early. We were originally supposed to have a guaranteed 4 PM checkout, but due to high occupancy they told us the best they could do was 2 PM, which we understood and were fine with. However, the next morning things took another turn. The phone lines and internet were down, and since we were staying on the top floor, we didn't have cell service either. Because of that, we ended up having to check out around 9 AM, which cut our short getaway even shorter. This was supposed to be our last little one-day escape together, and unfortunately it didn't turn out the way we had hoped. That said, the reason this isn't a much lower review is because the staff did try to make things right. They refunded our points, which we appreciated, and they handled the situation as best as they could under the circumstances.

Lounge hours are more flexible than many Marriotts

Large and very clean hotel. Was in town for a business event with 1,500 other people. Facilities were top notch. Lobby bar was well staffed and had a great standard Old Fashioned. Lounge hours are more flexible than many Marriotts I have seen. The lounge double doors are right by the B elevators on 5th floor. Good selection of soft drinks, beer/wine and water bottles. Plenty of Uber/Lyft/Waymo (through Uber) rides when you need it. Location of hotel is also very close to many other bars, restaurants etc in walking distance. Area seemed safe at night time.

Pretty nice hotel, what you'd expect for a JW. Checking in was a bit disorganized, and there were a lot of people in the elite line that just thought it was a second line, and were there likely because it was shorter. To my surprise- the concierge picked us out of the line and checked us in almost as soon as we lined up! The hotel was very loud and my husband could not hear a word she was saying. Luckily, I'm short, so I was right at her level and I could hear just fine. We opted for a high level room, away from the elevator. She gave us a key to the executive lounge and explained the hours. She offered us some bottled water and showed us the elevator. Thank you! Great service. Our room was pretty much immune from any noise, since we were almost the last room down the hallway. The room was spacious, clean and well stocked. There were bottled waters waiting for us in the room and extra ones for the coffee maker. Nice. Our city view was good- window was clean. I appreciated the black out shades. The shower was fantastic. It got very hot and the water pressure was just right. The shower head had such tiny little holes it seemed the water was becoming mist. It's soft water, which makes it feel slick. The bath towels seemed washed a few too many times and were not as plush as they could've been, but the hand towels and wash cloths were newer. I really liked using the makeup mirror in the bathroom as the lighting from above was quite harsh for that. Some amenities included makeup wipes, q tips, etc. The room had a safe, two robes, and a mini fridge- yessssss. We put our bbq leftovers in there. The executive lounge has a nice daily breakfast- most items seemed to be the same but they rotated the breakfast meat and the yogurt flavor. The coffee there is better than the room coffee. They have honor code beer, wine, (spirits in the evening) and you just write your name and room number for a charge. There's a ton of bottled water which we took advantage of. On the 5th floor, they have a gym, salon, rooftop pool and rooftop bar called Edge. We went for a couple rounds of drinks and found the night time lighting to be gorgeous. Friends enjoyed the chips w salsa/guac/cheese and the wings. In the lobby, they have a bar which is pretty good. We also had a round of drinks there. The lobby restrooms are kept clean. And there is rotating flavored ice water near check in. There is a small gift shop with snacks and souvenirs inside by the elevators. Car service is available in the valet loop. There is a Starbucks on the 2nd floor open from 6a-6p. There is a burger bar outdoor open air restaurant from 11a-2:30a. I'd say this hotel has everything. They emailed us after our first night to inquire if anything could enhance our stay. They even had an employee come by at night and give us one piece of chocolate and a note regarding pre bedtime stretches for a good nights sleep. Haha. Why not 5 stars? Hotel was super busy and loud- there was a conference going on the whole weekend. Would've been nice to know that beforehand, might've booked another place. One of the elevators was broken so only two elevators were in service for the high floors. Maybe ask how many of us are in the room and give two chocolates instead of one! It's about time for a bath towel refresh/ they're getting over washed. The weather stripping on our door was fraying- doesn't affect the function but allowed light into the room at night. We did not try Dean's steakhouse or the Corner restaurant. We would stay again. We are bonvoy members and the hotel location can't be beat. It's a great place to stay for the food and wine festival. You can walk everywhere.

Great hotel in the heart of Austin. Excellent dining options and a spa on site. Walking paths within walking distance and great accommodations.

This was a great location for us to walk around downtown. Parking was a bit confusing as we chose this place so we can charge our car overnight. Once we got there, they advised they cannot make any promises. We continued to contact front desk to let them know of this inconvenience. They finally charged the car. The pool was nice and our room was average. I enjoyed the lounge as a titanium member. I would probably not stay again due to the "car charge" issue.

I'm honestly very surprised by the quality of my stay. The fire alarm has gone off around the same time both nights and I had additional change of linens left on my suitcase. I would expect this from something like a courtyard or residence Inn, but definitely not a hotel of this caliber. While it is nice that they have plenty of meeting rooms on site, I don't know if I would stay here again. Had multiple colleagues get stuck and have to be rescued from an elevator and the level of service they received in the process was definitely subpar.

Great housekeeping, Thelma! As Titanium members, we enjoyed the Executive Lounge access (some of the food items especially during happy hour were lukewarm vs hot on several days, however). Appreciated the timely manner in which the Lounge staff kept the room clean. Hand sanitization area near the food would be helpful. Main gripe is for the housekeeping Mgr/Supervisor who went in our room, ignoring the DND sign on the door...complete breach of privacy and professionalism. Although we spoke with the Head Person of housekeeping, that incident actually compromised our visit as we no longer felt comfortable/safe in our room nor leaving our room - not knowing who was going to enter on us or enter while we were not there. It wasn't as relaxing as we hoped. The property itself was kept well and efficient front desk staff. Thank you Demiar (spelling) at the front desk who gave helpful suggestions on how/when/where to view the bats! Thank you "Z" (new front desk young man) for trying to accommodate our rooming needs as Titanium. Unfortunately, the main area is undergoing renovations so the idea of sitting out in the lobby bar as before was taken away this time. Looking forward to seeing the updates.

Executive Lounge Breakfast

A beautiful, clean, and well decorated hotel with exceptional amenities. From check in to check out the staff goes above and beyond. Every time I've checked in, the counter staff is so kind and conversational. The housekeeping does an outstanding job cleaning the room, organizing clothes, restocking the bathroom, and they leave a nice little chocolate on the nightstand along with some daily notes. The Executive Lounge is a 10/10, with a generous spread of food including salmon, various eggs, sausage, tons of baked goods, yogurts, and more. They do shut down the breakfast at 9am though during the week which I think is a little too early. After breakfast they provide tons of snacks. Cokes, sparkling water, and coffee machines available for grab and go all day. There are also tons of work stations and lounge areas with tvs, making it a great place to do some work or pass the time. The gym is huge with a machine for every muscle and over a dozen treadmills and bikes. There's both bottled water and a water refill station and you get some panoramic city views from the 5th floor. The pool on the fifth floor is also beautiful with nice views and plenty of lounge chairs and outdoor futons. It's also conveniently located just a block from the river, with plenty of great dining inside the hotel or nearby.

Great location, excellent service! Had an A+ experience here from the time I stepped on to the property until the time I left. Valet and welcoming area was friendly, as was everyone I came in contact with. Check in was very quick and attentive, despite being very busy. The food everywhere onsite was excellent, including food for the conference I was attending. This is one of the best Starbucks inside of a hotel I've ever been to. So much to see and do within walking distance, and the concierge was very knowledgeable!

First the location was ideal, right on South Congress and the best part is that the parking is free! I was a little concerned about noise coming from the clubs that are literally steps away, but it was not an issue the weekend I was there. Second, the property is more like an Airbnb in that there's no front desk. You get the access code via email prior to your arrival. However, that is not to say that there's no staff. I had some questions and was easily able to talk/text to someone immediately. We were in the Orange room which was comfortable and well-designed for two people. Plenty of storage space in the main room and in the bathroom. I always get nervous when I see the wall mounted AC unit, but this one worked great! Our room was nice and cold and the unit was very quiet. My only negative point of our entire stay is that the water pressure in the bathroom is a bit weak and the hot water from the sink tap takes a very long time to warm up. We enjoyed the common room with the Jura coffee maker. There is also filtered water and other beverages available at no charge. I'd like to add that the staff is incredibly friendly and kind. I look forward to staying here again soon!

We also dined at Nido, the hotel's restaurant, for both dinner and breakfast, and it was definitely a highlight. Located on the topmost floor, Nido offers stunning views of the river and downtown Austin. With both indoor and outdoor seating, the ambiance is elegant and ideal for a special evening. During our visit, we saw a couple of groups celebrating birthdays and wedding anniversaries, which shows how perfect this place is for special occasions. The pricing is on the higher side, but it matches the upscale experience and beautiful setting. For dinner, we ordered the Burrata as an appetizer and the Autumn Garden for the main course, along with an American IPA and a Jack Frost cocktail. Everything was delicious, but the Burrata truly stood out as my favorite. Breakfast was equally enjoyable--we had custom-made omelettes with veggies and avocado toast, both fresh and flavorful.
