Many places are a bit run down or operated by large corporate chains. My experience with the bigger chains is frequent and unpredictable rate increases. Then someone recommended Smart Storage which had just opened about a month ago. AMAZING! The place is brand new, really well designed, and I appreciate that access is NOT 24/7. Currently access is 6AM -11PM. I never loved the idea of people rooting around at all hours of the night. The units are immaculate and it appears that all of the infrastructure, cameras, and access doors are the latest tech. The best part of the entire experience is the owner Steve. This is a family owned and operated business. What a difference from dealing with an anonymous corporation. Steve helped me figure out the right storage solution for my needs and made the entire experience a joy. I look forward to coming here. For the record I am not being compensated in any way for this review. After 30 years of renting various units I will say this is the best I have come across. Check it out for yourself!

Well, well, Yelpers, your girl is back with another YELPTASTIC review…read more I visited this UHAUL location on Clark Ave. in early June 2020 when I needed to get a small sofa moved from a friend's house and into my apartment (free sofa by the way). June 2020 is the same time when the Coronavirus outbreak was rampant across the USA and the world. I can't remember if any U-Haul employees were even wearing masks I got a rental pickup truck (see photos). I didn't need any extra equipment such as a rope but if you do, they have supplies available for purchase inside the office. TIP -- Renting during a weekend is cheaper because it costs less per mile than if you rent during the week. "It" meaning gas I believe. Before I arrived, I had previously booked the type of car that I wanted to pick up online. Then, when I showed up on Saturday morning, a front desk clerk helped me check-out the rental car. SERVICE -- Service was smooth from the moment I arrived to the moment I returned. When I arrived, one of the employees explained to me the basics of the car and also refueling the vehicle before I returned. I also could pay to not refuel the car but I choose to out petrol/fuel back in the vehicle myself after I was done driving. I waited just a little bit for the car guy to bring out the rental car to me but it was less than 5 minutes. Once I was done using the rental pickup truck, I returned it with the car keys. If you can't return the car during office hours then you can still bring the car back - just park it and there is a drop off box for you to place the keys in. TIGHT PARKING LOT -- One thing I will note about this location is that it is in a very tight location. The parking lot is where all the U-Hauls are parked so there is really no where for you to park your car as you go into the office. I was lucky to find a spot to park my car while I was in the office for a few minutes. Overall, this is a solid U-Haul (3.5/5 rating) but I probably will visit another location the next time I need to rent a car. Preferable, I'll visit a location that is bigger because the parking lot here at the Clark Ave. location is non-existent. Renter beware. 1. Your rent will be increased dramatically repeatedly with one month warning. I…read morefirst rented in January of 2020. I have already seen two rent increases. My initial monthly rent was $117.72. My current monthly rent, eighteen months later, is $143.62. That is an outrageous 22% increase in just over a year! Clearly, they understand that once you are in, there is a burden to you changing storage vendors. 2. They have a "company policy" against pro-rating rents that they do not disclose when you rent. Accordingly, if you remain one day over the end of the current month, they will not pro-rate your rent for the next month. 3. They advertise the units as "climate controlled." There is absolutely no air conditioning in the building. Accordingly, in the summer, the units bake like ovens. There is minimal heating in the winter. While the units do not freeze, the temperatures can get quite cold.
