The food was amazing. Very conscientious of our numerous food allergies. They double checked and we felt safe eating the amazing GF ramen. The server was kind, considerate and helpful in choosing the right combination for our meal. The restaurant and restroom were clean and tidy. Not too loud or smushed into other diners. Will come back again!
Great tasting ramen. Tantan, spicy tonkatsu, and garlic tonkatsu all very good. XL size option good for big boys with an appetite. Friendly local service. Street parking but read signs. Casual seating.
Junpuu you are just what a ramen-loving, no-land animal eating lady needs! You satisfy all my cravings for soft noodles swimming in steaming broth with not one, not two, but THREE vegan ramen choices. Yay!! (They also have a cold vegan ramen) I waited until I tried all three of the warm vegan ramens to post this review. Each one has a different broth but all are topped with charred fresh vegetables that remain crisp yet melt in your mouth. Mmmmm! Love that they have eggplant and kambocha, simply brilliant! And the noodles are medium with a slight curl. They have great texture and a bouncy bite. But let's get to the broths. The first one I tried was the clear broth. It was light yet complex, fresh yet savory. The next one was the tan tan. It was creamy and nutty, rich but not gritty (like some tan tan ramens). The last one was the tomato broth, so unique and distinct. It was tangy yet sweet and aromatic. (note: they serve this with a shaker of Parmesan cheese to use as a topping, makes culinary sense, but I also don't consume dairy so passed on the topping). Now you're probably wondering which was my favorite. I don't have one. They are all different and delicious! No complaints. Only praise for three impeccably crafted dishes cooked with care. I adore that I can come back and eat whatever suits my flavor fancy. They also serve a vegan karaage. Crunchy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside but enough texture to make it feel 'meaty.' They do a great job with this dish serving it with a small salad tossed lightly with a goma-ish dressing. There is also a side sweet chili dipping sauce. I also am in love with their chips. Seems like a quirky item for a ramen menu but once you have it you realize how much sense it makes. Cut thin like air, the potatoes are cooked to golden perfection and sprinkled with Himalayan sea salt. It's a great crunchy starter before a bowl of warm sumptuous ramen and something other than your typical gyoza... Speaking of gyoza, they don't have a vegan option but my hubby tried it and always orders a side. They have options with cheese and garlic toppings too. Hubby has also tried their tonkatsu and shoyu ramen and slurped it ALL up. He was especially impressed with the shoyu ramen. All this deliciousness is enjoyed in an air-conditioned restaurant with an industrial steam-punk vibe. High and low tables accommodates seating for couples to groups. They also have a lovely lanai if you prefer eating outside. Street metered parking is easy to find, and they also have validated parking in the small lot. Junpuu is right across the Blaisdell Center so it is a great option if you're there for a fair, concert, or other event. The servers are courteous and efficient, and I give their playlist 5 plus stars. I usually find myself tapping my feet or humming along to the well-curated songs, classic and retro. If you are Gen-X you will totally understand! I came to Junpuu looking for a warm vegan ramen, I found three. And I'll keep coming back and rotating through their stellar selection of amazingly tasty noodle soups. Well, that and the karaage and chips. If you are vegan or vegetarian this is a MUST-try place. But you don't have to be to enjoy the bowls of culinary comfort that comes out of the kitchen of Junpuu.
Junpuu is a Japanese style ramen restaurant on S King St, across from Neal Blaisdell concert hall. I've heard about this place and always wanted to go, so decided to treat myself to their ramen for dinner after a long work day. Their tantan men was fantastic (4.5/5) with rich, semi-thick, savory broth thats almost like a tonkotsu base. What really impressed me was the chicken karaage (5/5), as it really had a strong garlic flavor that melded well with the crispy batter and Himalayan salt topping. Overall, this place is a very authentic Japanrse ramen experience and I was very impressed with their food. Would 10/10 recommend and can't wait to go again soon.
Recent update. I think the eggs, pork, broth isn't as good anymore. The egg seems less marinated and not perfectly cooked. Egg was more runny rather than jammy and the white part seems slightly undercooked. It's like they just put the egg in the marinade within the last hour and took it out. It was mostly white and just the outer part has the marinade compared to last time where it really seeped in. It was inconsistent during my last 2 visit during the last 2 months. My last 5 star review was based on my multiple visits during the 1-2 years ago. The egg seems inconsistent, the broth isn't as flavorful/creamy anymore, and same with the pork. Noodles are sun noodles but it would be more tolerable if the toppings and broth can be done right. Also, there were flies/insect flying around which was bothersome. It's ok/decent ramen now or just maybe it was just today. I don't know what happened. It def dropped out of the top 3 ramen spot now unfortunately...
Junpuu doesn't disappoint. It's a convenient stop before or after a visit from the Honolulu Museum of Art or the Blaisdell Center. The food is always delicious, the service is great and the desserts are always fun and sweet.
I want to be greedy and not share this spot, but it's just too good not to share! In my opinion, this is the best Ramen on the island. Food is delicious and they have vegetarian options. They are also pet friendly. It can be a little difficult with parking, cause it's just metered street parking. But that shouldn't stop you from trying out their delicious dishes.
Haven't been to Juupuu in a while, and my partner had never been before, so it felt like the perfect spot to bring him since he's a total noodle head. Also just found out they have parking in the back!!! Every other time I've come here I've been street parking, so that was a nice surprise. We ordered a few of my favorites: the spicy cheese gyoza and the tomato ramen with the special (egg and extra chashu). My other half went with the spicy tonkotsu with the special as well and added extra noodles. Everything came out hot and flavorful, and it definitely hit the spot. The spicy cheese gyoza is always a must for me...crispy, savory, with just the right kick. The tomato ramen is rich and comforting, and the extra chashu makes it even better. My partner really enjoyed the spicy tonkotsu too; the broth had a nice depth and the noodles were perfect. Service was great and the ambience is super chill. It's very low-key and simple, which is something I really appreciate, especially after a long day when you just want good food in a relaxed spot.
TL;DR Good, but not great, ramen. ----- I'm a little surprised by the current 4.5 rating for Junpuu. It's a solid ramen spot, but there is stark competition in the Honolulu ramen space, and I'm not sure if Junpuu is quite S-tier. I arrived on a Thursday afternoon for lunch and was able to find street parking right outside the entrance. There's validated parking for the building as well. I ordered the Potato Salad, Gyoza, and Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen, all of which were satisfactory but not standout. My only direct knock is that my ramen dish did not come with an ajitama by default; I had to order one ala carte. That's unfortunate. While the food was relatively good, I don't see myself returning to Junpuu when there are so many great other options nearby.
Hard to find based off the address, stay on the street and it is in the corner on the main road. The directions on here take you to a paid parking lot. The restaurant is small, but plenty of additional training outside. The menu is simple and the are quick to serve you. I took my food to go, not sure what the presentation would have been eating inside. Once back, the chicken was still crunchy and soup hot. The Karaage Chicken was a 5, it came with a small side of salt which it did not need. The Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen was a 4, very favorable but noodles could have been cooked longer and toppings were minimal. I will be going back and highly recommend stopping by and trying them out.

It's been nine years since my last review, but not nine years since I've last eaten here. I just did not realize my review was so old. The place still exists which speaks volumes. The pricing has definitely changed though. I always get the vegetarian tantan which was $10.50 nine years ago. It is now $18.95. It's still very flavorful for a vegetarian broth. It's almost hard to believe as it's very rich and hearty. I also love that they have actually added a real mix of vegetables such as kambucha, eggplant, spinach, bell pepper, zucchini and not just the standard cabbage, corn or bean sprouts like other places. I got spice level three which was just right. The mister got the regular tan tan with spice level five. He said any higher and it would not be doable lol. The kid had the miso and ate it all up. I love that this place still exists and we'll keep coming back.
This place was deceiving from the outside, but the ramen here is amazingly delicious. The place is small inside and a few tables on the patio. The menu is short, simple and reasonably priced. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen with vegetables and it was really tasty! The vegetables were fresh and locally farmed. The staff were friendly and the service was great. I'm definitely coming back for more!

Wait time was reasonable considering that we were a party of 10. Indoor and outdoor dining spaces, not too huge, but that's fine. It's comfortable :) Food came in hot. I personally liked the tonkotsu broth and the chashu was easy to eat. Chips were yummy and a hit with everyone on the table. Our server was friendly, and my stomach is warm and full. Available parking in the back, reasonable prices and yummy food! On a Saturday afternoon we decided to head over to Junpuu to try their food. They do not take reservations and the interior is on the smaller side but there is limited outside seating. Staff are super friendly and with good service. We ordered extra large miso ramen, homemade chips, and char sui quesadilla. Everything came up quickly and hot. The homemade potato chips were so good and were thin, crispy and salted. The char sui quesadilla was generous with lots meat with a salad and sour cream with salsa on the side. The ramen noodles were perfectly al dente and soup nicely flavored. We heard tan tan was popular but will try next time. Overall very good experience and will be back. Happy to see a small business offering good, reasonable food with friendly smiles! read more

Restaurant was on the smaller side and it was busy! We ended up having to wait around 30 minutes but it was worth it! Service was decently speedy and the food was fantastic! I loved the gyoza which was very flavorful and garlicky (I LOVE GARLIC!), the and karaage was nice a crunchy. I got the Yuzu Chicken Ramen which is probably one of my favorite Ramens I've had! I think it mainly has to do with the broth! I love very citrusy flavors and this was just right! Just a little more spice would make this perfect for me! The Oxtail Ramen had a rich broth-- This was a WOW! Different from the other local restaurants that serve oxtail soup. If you love oxtail soup but want to try a different flavor texture - Junpuu is the best. BUT it's only available on Wednesdays. read more
I liked that it was BYOB and the staff were friendly. It was also easy to find a street parking right in front of the restaurant. Unfortunately, they made a mistake on my order - different toppings, so they took the ramen back, and I believe just switched the toppings. So by the time I ate, it wasn't hot and noodles sucked some soup up already. Disappointed. Gyoza was tasty, but the wrapper broke pretty easily. There might have been too much moisture on one side, although it looks crispy on the side shown in the picture. Overall, it was a good experience, but I think there are things that can be worked on. read more
I'm so happy they have a vegan option that's as delicious as it is. I always get extra eggplant and pumpkin in the tantan ramen since both are amazing, and the staff are always so kind and helpful. I just wish they offered more vegan options on the menu. read more

JUNPUU is an easy 5-star spot for me - cozy vibes, friendly service, and seriously satisfying comfort food tucked away off King Street. I came in hungry and left already planning my next visit. I started with the pork cutlet burger, which lands somewhere between a legit katsu sando and a classic local burger in the best way. The pork was fried perfectly with a crisp exterior and still juicy inside, stacked on soft bread with just enough sauce for flavor without turning the bun soggy, and the housemade chips on the side were hot, crunchy, and way better than anything out of a bag. For my main, I went with a chicken-based ramen and it hit all the right comfort-food notes. The broth was rich and full of depth without feeling overly heavy, the noodles had that ideal springy chew, and the toppings were generous enough that every bite had a good mix of noodles, broth, and add-ins. To balance things out, I added the quinoa salad, which turned out to be a surprisingly great pairing. It was light but still satisfying, with a nice mix of textures and just enough dressing to brighten things up without drowning the grains, and it worked as a fresh counterpoint to both the ramen and the fried cutlet. Overall, Junpuu nails that "neighborhood favorite" feel: focused menu, from-scratch ramen, and thoughtful extras like the quinoa salad and house chips that make the meal feel complete. The tucked-away location and parking can be a tiny hassle, but once you're seated with a hot bowl and that pork cutlet burger in front of you, it's absolutely worth the effort. read more

Been coming here for years and was only able to write a review now. FOOD :: The Char Siu Quesedilla is great! Half portion should be enough to share between two people. Garlic Tonkatsu Ramen is flavorful and tasty. Perfect meal for dinner. SERVICE :: Food is served quickly. Server made sure to refill our cups with water frequently. AMBIANCE :: The place is cute for a date or a night out or a casual lunch. There are indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating faces Thomas Square park, though I don't think you can see it much at night time. PARKING :: Lots of parking in the lot. Review for service received on August 2025. Hole in the wall ramen spot. Metered street parking is available up front. Very small but cozy inside with very cool air conditioning circling the restaurant. Ordered my favorite ramen broth tan tan, tonkotsu ramen(they got our order wrong and gave miso instead but didn't care at that point because we also like miso). Also ordered takoyaki as our appetizer. Tan tan is tasty, good spicy kick to it. Broth was flavorful! It had spinach for the greens in it which i rarely eat but it paired well with the ramen. The miso ramen is tasty, can't go wrong with that and the meat had mostly fat on it though. Takoyaki was tasty but i've had better at other places. Service was good. After dropping off food, they checked up on us twice and even gave us extra napkins. Overall, it satisfied my ramen fix for the day. read more

The ramen noodles are delicious and all the broth selections are delicious! For some reason I crave their homemade potato chips and gyoza. Seating is limited but worth the wait if you arrive during a rush. Staff is attentive and friendly - they even offered my soda refill in a to-go cup We have not eaten at this spot in a few years and am so happy it's still as good as I remembered. read more

Pretty good variety of ramen that comes with many toppings and other unique pupus. I don't often get ramen, but this is one of the best spots that I've heard that opens a little later! *PARKING* - plenty street parking - parking lot, but may be limited in a busy afternoon **SPICY LOVERS ALERT** What's pretty cool is that this place offer difference spicy levels that is adjusted to your liking, but beware, they do charge on how spicy! Plus for their ramen, you can choose regular, large, or extra large! - Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen ($15.95) is so scrumptious with all the bamboo shoots, char siu, and garlic oil. With all those toppings, it definitely makes this a meal since it makes you pretty full! - Spicy Cheese Gyoza ($8.50) is not really spicy, but taste like there's tomato instead like a pizza instead. - Charsiu Quesadilla ($8.50 half portion / $14.95 full portion: pretty good and unique from the type of fusion quesadillas that I've had. Decent ramen. I loved the flavor of the char-siu; I just wish there were more of it! (Maybe spring for the extra...) There were plenty of noodles - always a plus - with good texture. I wasn't keen on the amount of raw red onion piled on top. The winter squash was the most flavorful of the seasonal vegetables that I added to my bowl. It's a fairly small place with both indoor and outdoor seating. There seemed to be enough street parking. It's also BYOB. read more

I tried their Garlic Tonkatsu Ramen and it was delicious. The broth was very flavorful and hearty, the noodles were just the right texture, and the char siu meat was tender, smoky, and flavorful. I added an ajitama egg which was perfectly cooked and flavored - so worth the extra cost. I got a large bowl, which was pushing on too much. I think I would have been ok with a regular bowl, but didn't regret ordering the large. The service was quick and friendly, we were promptly seated, was able to order soon after and got our food out quickly. The space is small, but there is one table that seats 8 people, which worked for us, since we had 7. There is some outdoor seating as well. There is street parking and also a parking lot behind the storefront. We came for dinner, so you didn't have to pay to park in the lot after 5pm. Overall, great ramen place. read more

This was a couple months ago. We had to grab a quick bite before a concert at blaisdell. I've always wanted to try it here so what better opportunity to just walk over. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff is really nice and food is good! They had a sign to ask about dessert, but they didn't have any that day. I believe it was due to there being an event at blaisdell. read more
We arrived and were quickly seated. The server was super nice and smiley, which was a nice touch. There was a good amount of seating and even some seating outside. The seats are stools though, so it can get uncomfortable. The ramen was super yummy. I got the spicy tonkatsu and my friend got the tan tan vegetarian. The broth was so flavorful and I added an egg which was jammy on the inside. The ramen is thin and still chewy and not overcooked at all. Will definitely be our go to ramen spot! read more

Found this recommended with high ratings on Yelp and had to give it a try given all the tasty Asian food you can find in Hawaii! I ordered the Spicy Tonkatsu ramen (base level 1 spicy and the regular portion) and it was perfect! Not spicy imo at all but had the right flavor I was looking for when I order spicy ramens. The noodles were nicely al dente and the broth was flavorful without being too oily and heavy. I was really surprised that I finished my bowl without feeling too bloated and full - their portion was just the right size for me but if you usually eat a bit more, they have a large option. Service was great - my server was an incredibly friendly Japanese lady who constantly checked in with me and made sure my water was filled. Inside is a bit small, they only have high top tables but they also have a few seats outside for those that want more summer air! read more

Get the tomato ramen. This is the first thing I would say to someone if they told me they are interested in Junpuu. I was skeptical but now I believe lol. Unless you dislike tomatoes, I think everyone should at least try it! I've also enjoyed the garlic tonkotsu and garlic miso ramens. Both were great although I slightly prefer the former. Finally, I have tried the yuzu chicken ramen which was tasty and different. For sides, I had the garlic gyoza but actually would not recommend it over the plain, even though I am definitely a texture person. The gyoza was good, but I don't think the garlic made it any better. I still need to go back and try more - I'm looking at you, karaage and takoyaki... Service is friendly and fast. They can really turn tables here. Speaking of tables, there are several inside and outside. Parking is ample (street right out front which is free after 6pm M-Sa and on Sundays/holidays, and lot in the back). read more

Honestly one of the best dining experiences we had in Honolulu. The service was great and the food came out quick. They refilled my iced tea and I was able to even get a to go cup for it at the end. The ramen was a large portion and was really good! We also had the curry which was great as well. Street parking right out front. read more

Wow loved the garlic miso ramen. The flavors where there and it hit the spot. The CHAR SIU quesadillas was delicious, it went together very tasty. I'm a Chicken Karaage girl and this one wasn't all that great. And the TanTan was watered down, the spiciness was there but it was missing something. But over all it was delicious. read more

Had a quick dinner while waiting for an event to start near Blaisdell and was so glad I was able to try Junpuu again. I ordered the black garlic tonkatsu and it tasted pretty good with soft char siu. I could go without the raw onions, it added a different zing flavor I wasn't used to having with ramen. The takoyaki was alright. It's a real cozy space but service was quick and we were in and out just in time for our event. It was a packed house when we arrived so noise level was on the louder side inside the restaurant, but they do have some tables outside. Definitely a place to check out if you're in the area and wanting some ramen. read more

I had a pretty mixed experience here. The service was friendly and fast, and the ramen was good, but not particularly amazing in the spectrum of Honolulu ramen. For the ramen I got their garlic tonkotsu and asked them to add some spice as well. The noodles were yummy, I added a tasty soy egg for additional charge, and the portion was a good size. The appetizers however, were so bizarre! We tried the chicken karaage which unfortunately wasn't crispy at all- It was served in a very large cone shaped bowl so I think the stacked chicken pieces caused hot steam from the bottom pieces to be trapped and make them all soft. The dumplings were so odd, I genuinely am not sure if they made a mistake. It was labeled on the menu as "spicy cheese gyoza" which sounded great! Nothing could have prepared us for that plate of lukewarm gyoza covered in half melted shredded cheese topped with a very cold tomato and ground meat mixture sauce, which of course caused the cheese to not be melty and re-solidify. Ultimately the gyoza were lukewarm, wet and soggy with a very confusing flavor profile. I definitely would not recommend their appetizers, but it's a solid choice for a lunch ramen. read more

Delightful ramen shop in the upper Ward area! I visited this place in January not Jun(e) and I ordered ramen and gyoza not meat Jun. Bwahahaha! What does Junpuuu mean, we may never know. Enough with the jokes, this place is legit good! After receiving a recommendation from a coworker, I decided to give this place a shot. Firstly, notwithstanding the characters that call Thomas Square their home, visiting the restaurant was not scary at all. I found street parking right out front for the old Honda and was only a few steps away from the stairs leading to the front door. I understand that there is a parking lot in back as well. Secondly, the food. I tried the garlic miso ramen, which is currently my jam. Theirs did not disappoint. It was delicious with a perfectly seasoned broth and some tender pork. The ramen noodles were a little on the firm side for you nude connoisseurs out there. Following the recommendation of my coworker, I also had the tomato ramen, which was unique and delicious. If you are a fan of tomato sauce (like in spaghetti and macaroni) this one is for you. Would I call it Italian ramen? Probably not, but it does have some marinara sauce vibes (in a good way). In addition to my nude entrees, I also got the garlic gyoza. The garlic is added to the top in dried flake form. For reference, it's very similar to the jokes and puns in my Yelp reviews. It was pretty mild by garlic standards, and despite being unique, I would probably order the regular gyoza next time. I'm usually a pretty spicy individual, but I didn't add to the spice level of my ramen on this visit. I did note that this restaurant offers spice option increments of 10x 20x 30x 50x and a whopping 100x in case you are feeling like torturing your digestive system. Now that's what I like to see, self destruction offered on the menu of my local ramen shop, for a nominal fee of course. Finally, I cannot wrap up this review without mentioning the service, which was spectacular! Everyone I encountered was extremely nice and made me feel extremely welcomed. A very nice touch considering it was my first visit to this restaurant. I will definitely be back and look forward to trying the yuzu ramen. read more

One of the best Ramen place in town! I love that they have Vegan Tantan, I don't eat pork so this is great menu for us non pork lovers. We love their Chicken Karaage, they always give lots of chicken meats, the rainbow salad is also very good! read more

Do I need to make a reservation?
I've never had to yet though they do get busy when there's an event at the Blaisdell Concert Hall and Arena. Sometimes you may have to stand in line and wait.
