Juno is a great sushi place and definitely rises above many Chicago sushi places I've been too. This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Chicago and I would go back all the time if it fit within my budget. It's pricey, but it's worth it for the freshness and beautiful presentation of the fish. My only complaint is the dress code. Our server was wearing a cream see-through blouse with a black bra (mind she was heavy set). Last night, I visited Juno for the first time and was completely impressed from start to finish. The staff was great, the environment had a positive buzz (it was busy on a Tuesday), and the sushi was the best that I have had in Chicago. I arrived a little early for a date and had a seat at the bar to pass the time. The two bartneders were attentive and helped explain the twists on a number of the craft cocktails. I ended up going with Old Fashioned and it was delicious. Once my date arrived we ended up at a table for two in the back, which was great because we were able to see the Chef(s) at work. The food at Juno is fantastic. The smoked fish are must-tries, and the presentation of every dish was lovely. The Sake list is short but interesting. However, the service just doesn't quite match up to the price point. We came late on a weekday, and they were out of many dishes we had wanted to try. This is totally understandable, particularly at a place that ostensibly has very fresh fish, but definitely something to be aware of. What was totally unacceptable is that when we ordered a salad that was supposed to come with morels, they simply served it to us without them without saying anything. The waitress was kind about it and comped the dish, but her excuse was that the chef had decided the plate looked better without it. Um, okay? Very convenient that the most expensive ingredient makes the plate "look bad," I guess. I wonder what else was missing that we didn't notice - I just really happened to really be in the mood for morels that night. The staff generally really seemed like they just wanted to go home - the guys up front at the host desk were goofing off, and the other waitstaff just seemed tired. We were there Saturday night (after making a reservation). they let us seat in the bar area saying that the restaurant is full and if we want a table we have to wait an hour or two... the service was outrages we had to wait for the waiter for long time each time we needed to order and when he finally came he was in a hurry and just wanted to take the order and leave , when we had questions about the menu he said he didn't have time ... the drinks were just ok and the food was below average . for the prices that they charge they really need to change things there . this is Chicago , adjust your self to the level of food and service not only to the price.... read more

A brand new restaurant in the hands of such capable veterans makes this week old kitchen seem as if it had earned a Michelin nod years back. B.K. Wow I have nothing but amazing things to say about Juno. The food is excellent. It tasted great and was displayed beautifully. The customer service was some of the best I have ever experienced. All of the staff was so attentive without being annoying. They would show up as soon as your water glass got low, a plate was finished and they would clear it. I've been here 3 times - every meal has been excellent. Extremely fresh fish make up the very creative rolls. The clam / mussels / sausage appetizer (cooked) is amazing - ask for a small bowl of rice to sop up the broth. I only ordered dessert once (chocolate tofu one) but it was surprisingly great - I'm usually not a fan of Asian desserts. The food is pretty average for midwest sushi. They claimed to order their fish from fortune but i highly doubt that. I suggest eating at Coast sushi bar before this place. It's over priced and the service is absolutely amateur. Even with a reservation we still had to wait an hour for a seat and then another 45 min for food. The waitress was rude and just kept trying to up sell us basic mixed drinks and over priced beers as we sat there for what was over 2 hours from walking in the door to actually seeing food in front of our faces. We had and watched the head chef worry more about getting drunk and handing out shots of sake than making food quick and efficiently. The host was a very rude scowl faced elderly person that when asked why do we have to wait an hour when we have a reservation said, "I can't change that and offered nothing not even a seat at the bar. My husband asked a food runner for more water and they told us "when they have the time." For water? What a joke. We should of honestly just went to whole foods and ate sushi out of plastic containers. read more

I made an omakase reservation for my husbands birthday 6 weeks in advance, only to arrive and be told they did not have record of our reso. You can only request the omakase on line through open table, then someone from Juno must call you to reserve and then you provide cc info. Someone called me about 4 hrs after submitting the request and we booked the date. When the woman at the hostess stand couldn't find our reso, she wanted to know if I had a confirmation email, which I didn't ever receive and acted as tho I was as fault because I should have made sure I got a confirmation email, but why would I need one when you called me personally to confirm??? She barely even said she was sorry. I live BK's food, but may never eat here again. They totally ruined my husbands birthday. read more

Hands down - this is the best sushi in town. Some sushi places here in Chicago are having identity crisis as they are serving pad thai next to sashimi - I mean, really, who eats pad thai and salmon sashimi side-by-side? On the other hand, Juno stays true to serving great sashimi and sushi. Every fish served is very fresh and butter-y. Texture is on point. Service here is very Japanese; when you went to the bathroom, you would return with your napkins folded by the waiters. I would definitely return to Juno again. read more

I had an excellent dinner and very unique sushi experience here. We asked if they could do a sort of tasting menu, if you will, as we didn't feel like just ordering off the menu. The kitchen accommodated by preparing many of signature dishes. Standouts included the arctic char, uni shooters, incredibly rich shoyu ramen, and the beautifully presented sashimi and nigiri. The sashimi was cut well and the house made soy sauce they give you is delicious. I found myself dipping my chopsticks in my soy sauce between courses because it was so good! The nigiri was like I've never had before as the chef prepares each piece to be eaten on its own, no soy sauce dipping. Each piece is individually seasoned based on the fish. I loved eating nigiri this way and I wish more places did this. The soy marinated salmon in particular was excellent, so incredibly rich, melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Also, the truffle salted piece was delicious as well. On the shoyu ramen, I'd call it a hybrid between shoyu and tonkatsu because the broth is very rich, but delicious. It was one of the better ramen broths I've had in a while. Our meal was basically flawless with the exception of the oysters and the desserts. We requested oysters and the kitchen delivered. Again, these were not served with your typical cocktail sauce, but rather were individually prepared based on the oyster. The first oyster had a raspberry sorbet on top, which I did not enjoy one bit. The sorbet itself was way overly sweet (almost sickeningly so) and clashed horribly with the brininess of the oyster. The other oyster had micro greens and other seasonings, but it really just needed some acidity or sweetness because the oyster was not sweet enough. Anyway, the oysters were a let down, but my main gripe with Juno was the desserts. We ordered one of each dessert and all of them were extremely unappetizing looking with their weird colors. The cherry puree on one dessert was royal blue, the mint chocolate dessert was orange and green... honestly just a train wreck of colors, don't know what they're thinking. None of the deserts really tasted all that good either. Small portions of dessert for the price. However, oysters and desserts aside, our meal at Juno was outstanding. I'd definitely recommend coming here for an amazing sushi experience, but I'd suggest making alternative plans for dessert! read more

Juno is quickly becoming my favorite sushi spot in Chicago. While on the pricier side, the splurge is well worth it. I went with a group of 4 and our tab was around $230, which included a bottle of sake. Everything is well-prepared and extremely fresh - I have never had anything taste "fishy". The portions are on the smaller side but perfect for two people. For example, our favorite dishes, around $10 each, only came out with two pieces. If you're the type of person that scoffs at smaller portions then this isn't the place for you. The presentation is AMAZING and the wait staff is helpful and very well spoken. My party agreed that the best dishes were the King and Queen so definitely try that. If you're not worried about the money and you want delicious food, great service, and intriguing presentation, then Juno is for you. We had such a great time and can't wait to visit again! read more

We had high expectation for Juno. And although I gave it four star, I probably won't come back for a long time, not until I've tried other Japanese restaurants on my list for Chicago. The service was warm but not too much and so we felt really comfortable. When we left, Jason Chan was there to greet us. However, food wise, we were a little disappointed. We started with the smoked hamachi. When the waitress lifted the cover, we smelt a strong, quite unforgettable smoky smell and we did see smoke, which was quite an impressive scene. The hamachi was fresh and delicious. But then the chef's choice of nigiri was disappointing. Although the fish was fresh, the sushi rice was dry and too salty. Also there was no wasabi between neta and Shari.... Then we had the lobster. It's delicious but the portion was too little. It's good but not amazing enough for 23 bucks. Then the eel trio was delicious. But again maybe our expectation was just too high to call them amazing... Finally the ramen. The noodles were the better than any other noodles I've ever had inChicago. But the soup was inferior than Wasabi in Logan square and Santouka in Mitsuwa market. Décor was nice not imposing and orchids were a nice touch I had my craft vodka martini and had to wait for our toast as Eddie gave us new customers the complete lowdown. He was very helpful. Highly recommended for elevated sushi. Chef BK is amazing to watch - such artistry in his hands, like a dancer - mesmerizing. We hadn't ordered the Omakase dinner in advance so we created our own, letting chef and server select items for us. We were treated to a veritable parade of one outstanding item after another. Unlike most sushi places, chef intends for each piece of nigiri to be eaten without dipping in soy sauce because each is preseasoned with something special such as yuzu, truffle, lemon, sesame, charred mayo, etc; each item is more than just a piece of fish on a bed of rice. Our cooked items were also excellent - these included a nicely crisp/tender arctic char and an awesome shoyu ramen. Some of the dishes had some weird colors that were distracting and I'm not sure if chef means this intentionally as a surprise element. It kind of works for most of the dishes but fell flat with the others (desserts in particular). We had a lot of food. Here is a brief recap: Uni shooters - excellent. Edamame - the dipping sauce is to die for. Smoked hamachi - served "under glass" with smoke! Seaweed salad - interesting, prepared with quinoa, wasabi tofu. Chef's sashimi - fluke, snapper, king salmon, medium fatty tuna - excellent! Arctic char - some weird colors but very tasty. Tuna roll with warm king crab, crispy potato, honey mustard - excellent! Chef's nigiri - highlights were fluke with truffle and lemon, ebi with charred mayo. Unagi - housemade, very good. Spicy tuna roll - definitely not from the local supermarket! Shoyu ramen - how did they make the broth so rich? Oysters - weird colors again! Combination of oyster and raspberry did not work tho. Very good sushi, be aware if you are a big sushi eater you will be paying a lot of money for small portions and small sushi if you're trying to get full. Service is excellent, employees very nice, good selection of booze. Recommend the ceviche rolls and the spicy salmon. The Nigiri was excellent just too small for me though. The sushi is fantastic as expected , but don't miss out on some of the very detailed and different "hot" and "cold" options! Also was great to find a sushi bar that know how to make great cocktails. Forget sweet and boring,cocktails. Had a Tokyo sunset that was to savor and the sake was sooo smooth. The atmosphere was comfortable for two or 6. We went early and the service was smooth and attentive. Hmmm so what to improve? I would say it only has street parking but we had no problem as it was early. Got an energetic vibe as the evening went on. Would like to try a later reservation sometime. read more
