I've always had a great experience here! I've been coming for years to grab treats for my dog, and the staff are always super nice and welcoming. On my visit today, a gentleman helped me (wish I got his name!), and he was especially friendly. He greeted me right when I walked in, was all smiles at checkout, and even took the time to explain how some of their products are prepared. He also sent us home with a little extra treat for my dog, which was such a sweet touch. Close to a year ago I was having work done at my house and the crew took to my dog. The main tech asked me if I've been here. I told him I had never heard of the place. He was excited and told me it's the best place to get bones for your dog. Since I frequent butchers for jerky and pepperoni, I always ask them for pet items. 9/10 I get a femur bone. Pig ears tend to be cheaper at Costco and fresh pet food is just too much at $5 a pound for scrap that normally got thrown out. I can buy a cheap chub of ground beef, chicken or turkey for half that and brown it for my girl as a treat. This place had bones in many sizes, knuckles, and other random pieces I've never seen from ducks, chickens and other animals. Truth be told, I questioned if some of it was safe as the chicken feet still had talons on it, but the guy said it was. I grabbed a couple medium size bones; they were $6 each. Not nearly as cheap as I expected. At the butcher I get 3 bones that size for the same price as two here, or should I say one large bone that I have them cut into 3 pieces. That said, their bones did look well roasted, and the place had a smokey aroma, and it also appeared to be a lot of marrow in the bones. The place comes off as dark and dank, it didn't even look open from the outside. Some LED lighting and pictures of dogs enjoying the product could really infuse some life into the interior. With a single product line, you won't be Mud Bay, but you could surely compete on that level. As several others have noted in their reviews. The guy could not have been nicer. Very personable and actually stopped me on the way out the door and gave me a couple pieces of jerky. I had seen them for like $2 or $3, but again, thought the price was too much. That made me feel like my time and purchase was worth stopping and even though, I wouldn't expect that same courtesy next time I came, I appreciated the effort. I'm on the fence here. Nice people, great inventory, but the pricing just doesn't feel reasonable, if you specialize in something and have volume, I would expect your pricing to be more competitive. Then again there was a Pop Shop in Lynnwood that claimed to have the largest inventory of bottled soda in the Northwest. I drove up and at $4 a bottle, a fair amount of their inventory was available at Safeway and Bevmo for as little as $1 at Safeway and $2.50 at Bevmo. Granted, neither Bevmo or Safeway had 15 brand choices for grape soda, but even 3 choices is plenty in my book. The guy lost it when I called it out in my review, and I found out why when the place went out of business a couple months later. Costco has the blueprint. They make very little on what they sell, but they sell so much it all ads up. How many times have you gone there expecting to spend less than a hundred dollars and end up spending closer to $1000. If you are going to make $100,000 a year, it's better you make it off 1 million customers than 100,000, because you now have a 10x customer base who will recommend and expand your business. When your product is top shelf and your price is competitive, it's the cheapest form or marketing, because you don't have to spend a dime. Just my take, if it were my business, I would not want anyone getting a better price on something I specialize in. I say check them out. Up to you if you decide to return. My experience was truly 3 star overall, but again the people were so nice, I have to call it "Good". read more

I am a regular here with my pup Chili and always have a great experience. My dog drags me to the shop as soon as he realizes we are on the street. There is a wide selection of treats for dogs and I even find some things for my cats. Everyone here is friendly and they always have some treats on hand for the pups at the register. read more

Oh this is heaven for chewers with fangs and tails. I have three large hounds. Based on my wishes for an assortment., an associate suggested two amazing choices of flattened chewy pieces and larger marrow bones. Important: Locally and ethically sourced - thank you The aroma of freshly smoked bones followed me to my car and pantry in my house - yum :) The task was to separate all three hounds strategically in the house so they can enjoy the snack which is so good for their teeth! read more

The prices are much lower than retail and fresh. My pup literally looks at where the treat is held multiple times a day. Sidewalk street sign and a waffling smell of smokey bbq-like will guide your eyes and nose to this cute shop. Great selection of bones they smoke in-house for your doggie along with accessories for your pup. I am told they have ordered accessories and treats for your kitty that will soon be sold here too! Came back on a Weekday during posted business hours but still NOT OPEN. I'd been bringing my dog here on and off. I finally met the owner and he was rude and tried to hustle me by stating that a bone that was previously priced at $50 was now $80. He did not have the price displayed anymore for this bone. He also thought it was necessary to mansplain to me what a femur is and that he's been doing this for 30 something years. To make things worse I took my dog out for a walk and scooped up her poop in a bag and noticed that it had bone parts that did not fully digest. On top of that the bones itself are overly greasy. Greasy food consumption can cause INFLAMMATION OF THE PANCREAS and SEVERELY DAMAGE THE INTESTINES. read more

I ordered Medium size bones for my dog and I got two large ones instead, I emailed the email that was provided and someone by name Rob has replied back saying "we will ship you the right size bones" well that was 3/13/21" I have not received the bones that I paid for and the right size, whoever replied back simply lied about it, I tried reaching out last week to see if the bones have been shipped out and now they just ignoring my email. This little store in downtown Renton caught my eye with the products they were selling in the window. Stopping in to do some quick browsing, I was greeted from the back room. They do more wholesale and only recently went for more retail opportunities. There is definitely a focus on quality of the product here, and I think anyone looking for a good, high quality dog product is going to be happy here. I have no idea what the prices are, but when it comes to furry friends, I think this place is about as reasonable as any in the area. I took my Newfie puppy in and, lo and behold, a shop full of all-natural and tasty treats! It's like the butcher equivalent for dogs. This place is GREAT!!!! Had brought these bones from Pet Pros not realizing they were so local to me. The bones and knuckles etc are smoked in store so the shop smells incredible when you walk in and the purchase I made lasted all of 5 minutes with my two schnauzers. Junkyard Bones. Yes...it's a strange name for a Pet Food Store. The name is only the beginning of the strangeness. Looking for an alternative to Petco...The Borg of pet food chains...we searched for an independently owned store in nearby Renton. We found Junkyard Bones and called to see if it is real. Yes! 《So pleased!!!》 It's in downtown Renton, which we discovered to be a sad example of a dying downtown. There is store after vacant store for rent. Since Renton used to be an Italian enclave, there are several remaining old hold-out Italian restaurants that look like Scarface and Al Capone are frequent diners. "Help Wanted" signs on the doors. So, in this dismal setting, you'll find a dark hole-in-the-wall pet food store; mid-block on Wells Street....between 2nd and 3rd. We entered and noticed that the product selection is limited. Very limited...to point of ridiculous. The owner gave out an insincere greeting and proceeded to ignore us. Impressive. Perusing the products, I noticed that the prices are "through the roof". Not kidding...there are small bottles of fake beer for dogs that are priced at $4.95 a piece! Your dog won't even get a buzz and just think how much that is in Dog Money!!! Parts of the wall had fake plastic stone covering. I touched it and felt the tacky hollow material. This simple move set the owner into action. (Now, he's paying attention!?!???) Unencumbered by the thought process, he began explaining the obvious...that it's plastic and raving about how great it looks...and on and on. 'So glad he likes it. Finally, I said..."Okay! I'm convinced. It's fabulous." Geeze! We were seriously out of treats and bought a 6 ounce bag for twelve bucks! (I looked at the ingredients and gold was not one of them.) At check-out, the brilliant owner took absolutely no interest in my dog. When I said something about HER, he responded (in his insincere manner) and referred to her as HIM. This guy is the genius of customer service. We felt so valued. He mentioned that "like the sign says out front" the dog gets a FREE treat. Woo Hoo! Gosh! How unique!!! He produced this strip of some unknown dead animal and called it "jerky". It was very greasy and, on the way to the car, the grease soaked through the paper bag. Nice. BTW. There is only street parking...so, good luck. In the car, I attempted to tear off a greasy piece of "jerky" for Bowzerina. Not possible! I decided to not expose my dog to this mysterious carnage stick...I mean "jerky". At home, I made a serious effort to cut it up into pieces for the raccoons. I used a meat cleaver and a hammer. This durable piece of "jerky" laughed at all attempts to divide and conquer. What is it? Indigestible, I imagine. Finally, I gave-up and threw it in the garbage. We won't be returning to experience the obnoxious and overbearing Junkyard Bonehead and his obvious insincerity, poor product selection, and his indestructible "jerky". With his charming customer service attitude, his store will probably soon be among the numerous vacancies in DOWNtown Renton. It's farther to go, but we're off to Burien...where Mud Bay treats us like royalty. No free "jerky"...but we're okay with that. read more

Great place: clean, well organized, with an amazing selection! And when they say bones, they mean real bones, pork and beef, and other things dogs like to chew on, that's the entire center aisle! They also have some commercial dog food and treats (super high quality), leashes and collars, and chew toys. The owner was very friendly, he greeted us and explained the choices, and also recommended a chew toy that is guaranteed indestructible (the manufacturer replaces it for free if it does get destroyed). I happened to be on a morning walk with my dog and stumbled upon this place!! The middle section is filled with bones that are all made in house and the place smells delightfully like a BBQ. They also have normal dog store stuff like leashes, collars, bowl etc. After we get talking I find out they happen to be involved with the rescue I got my pittie from making them even better. The people at this place really know their stuff. They prepare the bones in house and have foster dogs that are in the store. The man we talked to previously showed dogs and was able to help with everything we needed as well as helping to point us to some products we wouldn't have even known about and even gave us a sample of one of the products he talked to us about. I love this little shop because the owner has always been so kind. (I've only been in twice, but he left a good impression.) However, I'm so disappointed in their hours. Who is closed Friday thru Sunday? I had a day off the two times I've been there. I've tried to go again on the weekends thinking it was just a fluke or maybe a family emergency that they were closed. Nope. Today I really, really wanted to go support Small Business Saturday because it's important to me to try to patronize my local businesses. But they were closed. I'm not going to try any longer. I have been late to the party in visiting Junk Yard Bones in Downtown Renton. I am so happy another independent business has committed to locating their shop here! It's that kind of investment that will bring more vibrant shops and customers in. I found the shop easily with a parking spot right in front of the store. I was met with a dog-mouth watering aroma of smoky meat/bones and there was quite a number of choices. I explained I was looking for a treat for my 100# Golden and Robert, the proprietor, was quick with advice and we chose a nice knuckle bone wrapped with a bully stick.
