From the moment you step inside, the place has that quintessential speakeasy feel. The ambiance is dark, moody, and eclectic, with vintage touches throughout. The menu was just as impressive as the décor -creative, varied, and full of unique cocktails that felt thoughtfully designed rather than your standard bar offerings. They even have a few "secret" drinks hidden on the menu, and the staff will happily tell you how to find them, which is a fun touch.Since another reservation was due to arrive in about 40 minutes, we kept it to two cocktails, which was perfectly fine as we were only stopping in for a nightcap. Both drinks were beautifully crafted. I especially loved The Canvas ,it was bright, refreshing, and memorable. The inside is dark and decorations are interesting. There is a variety of seating such as high tops, comfortable conversation chairs & tables as well as a booth. I soon realized why everyone was sitting outside after we took a seat and ordered cocktails. The music was so loud we could barely hold a conversation. Regardless, our server Nick was great. He was very attentive and constantly checked in with us for drinks. We ordered a Party Girl Mule, the Chili Gringo Mule and a dirty martini. All were delicious. I prefer my martinis colder and a glass filled to the rim. I felt the martini was lacking volume for the price of the martini. The Mode Lounge patio is located right on the walkway so it looked like a great spot for people watching. We didn't hang out too long as we had a difficult time talking with the loud music but we did like the drinks and our server, Nick. We will stop by again but look for outside seating.

I'm so glad we decided to check it out. We arrived and were escorted to the top floor, where we were greeted with beautiful, almost awe-inspiring views of the mountains and the city. The space itself is tiny, with just a couple of couches and a few additional seats. In a way, you're almost forced to interact with the other patron but for us, it was fantastic. We ended up chatting with several people throughout the evening. Some were tourists like us, while others were locals, and it was genuinely fun hearing their stories, learning more about the city, and getting recommendations for things to see and do. We also had some great conversations with the bartender, which made the experience feel especially personal. The cocktail format is unique as well. There isn't a fixed menu. Instead, you tell the bartender what you like, what you're in the mood for, and how adventurous you want to be, and they create something around your preferences. I'm a whiskey drinker and was open to experimenting, so I ended up with an Old Fashioned that had a savory element (soy sauce ) I wasn't entirely sure about at first but it turned out to be surprisingly good. My husband, who's a big mezcal fan, got a cocktail featuring Chartreuse, if I remember correctly, and thoroughly enjoyed his. I believe reservations are limited to 90 minutes, but that was plenty of time for two cocktails each. We left feeling like we'd had a genuinely memorable evening--not just because of the drinks and the views, but because of the conversations and the people we met along the way.Pricing is slightly on the higher side, but that's pretty much what we expected given the setting and the experience and might I add that the alcohol was also top shelf. Definitely one of those places where the experience is as much about the people and atmosphere as it is about the cocktails.

Juniper downtown Boise turned out to be a delightful spot for a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. Situated in a great location, it offers a charming patio area where you can unwind and soak in the pleasant ambiance of the surroundings. A decent wine selection, owing to the fact that Juniper is owned by a winery. Moving on to the food, I found it to be generally decent. The Cesar salad with chicken that I ordered was okay. It had all the expected elements, but it didn't particularly overwhelm me with its flavors or presentation. While it was a satisfactory choice, it didn't stand out as a highlight of the meal. The menu at Juniper seemed to have a balanced assortment of options, ranging from classic favorites such as pizza, pasta and salad. One of the highlights of Juniper is its lovely patio spot. The outdoor seating area provides a relaxed and comfortable setting, perfect for enjoying a meal or sharing a few drinks with friends. Whether you're looking for a spot to unwind after a long day or want to soak up the vibrant downtown atmosphere, the patio at Juniper offers a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The service at Juniper was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience. Our server was knowledgeable about the wine selection and happy to offer recommendations based on individual preferences. If you're looking for a convenient location, a nice patio spot, and a good wine selection, Juniper downtown Boise is a worthy choice. While the food, including the Cesar salad with chicken, may not be exceptional, it is still enjoyable. The overall ambiance, service, and wine selection make up for any minor shortcomings. Whether you're a wine enthusiast or simply seeking a comfortable spot for a relaxed evening, Juniper is worth considering for a pleasant dining experience. read more

My family and I had a wonderful experience at Juniper this weekend, my folks had flown into town and we wanted to take them downtown for a nice meal. From the moment we walked into Juniper we were greeted and escorted to a quiet little booth. The old brick walls combined with the modern music and lighting give it a rustic but classy feel to the restaurant. Michael, our server took such great care of us Saturday night. He answered all of our questions on the menu, suggested items we might enjoy and even went over the cocktail list to help us pair something with our food...the kid really knows his stuff. As an appetizer, we went with the bacon bruschetta and it was instantly gone from our table. So good! Now I can only speak on behalf of what I ordered, but the Beef Medallions were phenomenal. Michael was right...with the risotto and fried brussel sprouts that come along with it, it really is the best thing on the entire menu. Totally unique flavor and texture mixup, thank you! All in all my family had such a wonderful time eating at Juniper and would definitely recommend going in. It's a great atmosphere with tasty cocktails, phenomenal food and service to match. We were taken care of the entire night and I really appreciate the kitchens attention to detail and Michaels attentive service. Don't cheat yourself, go into Juniper and treat yourself a true Boise dining experience. read more

Juniper is a nice addition to 8th Street. I now have been to Juniper three times. Juniper offers a friendly environment, decent pricing, modern & clean layout and creative drink menu. I really like it. Recommended: Most drinks on its cocktail menu (try the Red Beet Margarita), Idaho Lentil Soup, Wings, Duck Spring Rolls. The $5 HH drinks are worth the money. Good but could be better: Beets & Greens. Different kinds of beets, more creativity in its presentation, more beets on the salad with an optional chicken add-on would make this just about perfect. Needs some TLC: - The 4-6 HH food menu. The 4-6 Happy Hour menu needs more food options in my mind (maybe including the items in the 10pm-12am section). The wings were tasty but the HH burger was overwhelmed by its bun versus (honestly) its very tasty beef patty. Take one of the bun sides off...and let your tastebuds taste the burger itself. - One seat bathroom. Maybe management would be game to change the signs on each of the single bathroom doors to reflect Men/Women since many folks were using the restrooms interchangeably anyway. Otherwise, the women were left lining up in the drink prep area. The ambience and drink menu make Juniper definitely worth the stop!! I will be back for sure...and will continue to sample. Glad 8th St has another winner. read more

Good brunch place but wasn't amazing for me. I ordered the chicken in a biscuit, side of potatoes and a mimosa. Potatoes were a hit - (can't beat Idaho's potatoes) and the mimosa was how it should be: mostly champagne, so I was happy with that! Now for the grand entree - I really wanted to love it. The sauce they have the sandwich sitting on was good, kind of reminded me of stroganoff (or maybe that's what it was), biscuit was buttered but cold and did not taste freshly baked. The chicken was still a little crispy but not flavorful. Overall, okay. Not saying I wouldn't come back though! I'd love to try other dishes. read more

This was almost going to be a three-star review, but the food really stole the show. We came here for brunch on the last day of our trip. Every time I searched for the best breakfast or brunch spots, this place kept coming up, so we figured it was worth a visit. When we arrived, about half of the restaurant was empty, yet we were quoted a 15-minute wait. During the hour we spent there, I didn't see any of those empty tables get filled. I understand that some may have been reserved, but it did leave me wondering whether the wait was intended to create the impression of high demand by keeping a line outside.Once we were seated, our order was taken, but the food took another 20-30 minutes to arrive. Thankfully, it was worth the wait. I ordered the Salmon Benedict, while my husband had the Biscuits & Gravy. Both dishes were excellent. The salmon was beautifully smoked, the hollandaise sauce was rich and perfectly balanced, and even the breakfast potatoes were crisped to perfection. The biscuits and gravy were flavorful, hearty, and incredibly satisfying. One surprise was that they didn't have an espresso machine, which felt unusual for a restaurant known for brunch. We settled for orange juice, which tasted more like bottled juice than freshly squeezed. The staff was courteous throughout our visit, though I wouldn't necessarily describe the service as warm or particularly engaging.
