TLDR: My super healthy, long hair has been damaged beyond repair by this salon and it will take…read moreyears to grow out. I've spent a couple of months thinking through how to write this review, because I didn't want to give criticism until I was absolutely sure about what went wrong. But even after all this time I am suffering from the results of my balayage here. First of all, I have been getting my long, dark brunette hair balayaged for 6 years. I am not a newbie to this. I've had everything from light blond balayage to purple, and my hair has remained healthy through the expertise of stylists and olaplex. I had recently moved from NYC and read amazing reviews about this salon, so I booked an appointment. I carefully explained exactly what I wanted to my stylist: a subtle, dark mahogany balayage only lifted 2 levels to minimize damage. I should have known something was going catastrophically wrong when the stylist insisted on putting my bleached/processing hair under a heat lamp for 40 minutes. She definitely brought my dark brown hair up way beyond two levels, and it's most reflected in how extremely damaged my hair is now. It is brittle, breaking, and constantly looks like a giant frizzy knot now. I've tried everything to restore some health - olaplex treatments, protein and hydrating treatments - but it's at the point where my hair is damaged beyond help. The only option is years of regrowing it out, or cutting it all off. I probably would not feel as bad about the damage if the highlights and color came out good - but it did not. My stylist's first attempt at the toner turned my hair a horrifying, streaky vampire/clown/fire engine red (see photo for reference). Red flag #2 was when she told me this looked great and sent me home. Well, when I got home I realized it was unacceptable and asked her to retone it, which she agreed to do, though she seemed a bit defensive when I came back a couple days later. With help from her manager, she retoned it and it turned out better, but still streaky. I accepted that this was as good as it would get. But I feel like I made a $250+ mistake coming here. My stylist clearly wasn't experienced enough working with dark brunette hair.

Everyone LOVED their hair and mine was everything I wanted and more! Alisha is amazing, the other girls were amazing, and the service they provided was so nice! They traveled to the venue in Vail! The dedicated curly hair salons I've found here charge exorbitant rates. Thank goodness I found Sabrina. She listened to me, gave great suggestions, and did an outstanding job. She's kind and pleasant, her price was more than reasonable, and her salon is in a cute little enclave of small, independently owned businesses called The Workshops. I am so relieved to have found her that I already made my follow-up appointment.

I ended up at the Aveda School Downtown, and was seemingly blessed to be put with Sabrina on my very first visit - since that day forward I haven't wanted to see anyone else in town. After seeing her twice at the school, we exchanged contact information and she has been doing my hair at professional salons ever since (seven years now!). Every time I get my hair colored/cut, I never fail to get tons of compliments. My color is always gorgeous. Not only does it have a great deal of shine and dimension, but also it really lasts. She knows exactly how to do my highlights so that they grow out naturally, not bluntly and fake looking. Additionally, Sabrina is super fun and easy to talk to - what is there to not like about that?! If I could give her 6 stars I would.

Now that I've been with Maria longer, she totally deserves 5 stars. She seriously can work magic with my hair. If I ever win the lottery, I'm keeping her on retainer to do blow-outs, color, and cuts on a regular basis. I have very fine hair with practically no body. This means that most of the time my hair is just straight, straight, straight. But, when I leave Maria, my hair is bouncy and full of volume. Told ya, she works magic. For years I've had long hair with face framing layers. Last time I visited, I needed a change and went to an angled bob. Wow. There may have been more hair on the floor than there was on my head, but the change was dramatic and much appreciated. Even Maria said we should have taken before and after pictures. But, what impresses me so much is that even though this cut should be higher maintenance (and yes, I've gotten my lazy butt to be better about blow drying and styling) the few times I've let it air dry it still ends up looking amazing. The bob cut is so good that my fine hair still curls under as it dries. Woohoo! Maria was recommended to me by my dear friend Claudia B years ago. Claudia has really, really thick beautiful hair that many stylists find difficult to work with. Maria works wonders with her hair as well.
