Delishes home cooked food! My wife and I were staying at the Cedar Lodge (really run down and food was terrible). Our fly fishing guide recommended this cafe (part of the Yosemite Rustic Bug complex) and it did not disappoint! We are vegetarians and there were plenty of options for us. The draft beer was cold, food delish, Employees were fun and helpful, and homemade pie was fantastic! Highly recommend if you don't mind a little drive from the park and don't want to pay crazy prices! read more

Poor experience. Visited for dinner on 5-17-24. Missing wallet that night. In it were driver's license, $160 in cash, and 5 credit cards. Went back in the morning. Employee who opened the restaurant that morning said wallet wasn't found, but he found a credit card on kitchen floor behind the service counter. It was mine. He didn't know how it got there. Knowing that my credit cards sometimes fell out of the wallet, I suspected that my wallet found its way into the kitchen. I asked the owner to tell his employees that whoever had the wallet could keep the cash and receive a $200 reward for return of the wallet with all other contents - no questions asked. I needed the license for airport security. Owner rebuffed the idea of a reward stating that his employees are honest and would be offended by the offer of a reward. My wallet has not been returned. read more

The food here was really good and simple and I would've given this place four stars, but for the fact that the wait for pickup was excruciatingly long. We ordered takeout and came to pick it up and I literally waited in line for 30 minutes just to pay for my food because they had one cashier who was also in charge of filling the drinks, getting the sides, putting food onto trays, etc. The cashier was really nice and professional, but they seriously need to have one of the other employees helping her out. Because of the COVID risk, I didn't want to have to spend time inside the restaurant and just wanted to pick up my food and go, hence why I ordered takeout. Yum! Stopped here on a whim one of the days we drove to Yosemite from our camp in Mariposa to pick up some sandwiches and bottled beer to take for lunch. A bit confusing on where the actual restaurant is at first, but we figured it out (our mild hangovers probably didn't help... haha)! Masks required and the gentleman at the register was wearing a mask and gloves and was super sweet and accommodating with our request for to-go beer. The club sandwiches we picked up were delicious and massive for the price! Will definitely return on our next trip up here. You could imagine how well-loved this place must be with its big, rustic, family style tables and funky decor, and it's always a little sad to realize how much the restaurant industry is suffering during COVID-19, but we were so grateful to this little spot for feeding our bellies and being extremely nice and friendly, all things considered. read more

Wow! I was impressed when I came here at 9pm after a long hike. I chose their crispy free range chicken over polenta and a spinach cheese sauce on top. It was a huge portion and I was so tired I could only eat half! Great deal - $15 for a large meal. Dinner options change every night. Breakfast and lunch stays the same, which I'm glad for because their 9-grain pancakes were my favorite. I got a half order the first morning and then ordered a full order so I could have the second pancake to-go for later! Their cold brew was one of the best I've had. For $2, you get refills. They offer vegan options for milk and food. They have beer too. I didn't try their desserts but they had pies as well as chocolate cream pie and cheesecake, all very decadent! I loved the option of communal tables or smaller tables. There are always people here, but the cafe is huge and has great views. They have board games for people to play too! read more

I have no clue how this place has such good reviews. Whatever you do don't come here for dinner, maybe lunch is better I'm not sure. We were camping nearby and decided to get dinner here. We ordered the chicken to share and a pizza for our daughter. The chicken was sooo dry and bland and it was over $25 for the plate with a small serving of mashed potatoes and gravy and four pieces of broccoli. The pizza was also bland with no Italian seasoning at all seemed like tomato sauce on crust with cheese. The cookie was $7 and was in the refrigerator probably for more than a week. The atmosphere was just okay. The patio had plastic folding chairs l. It smelt of sewage and cigarettes from someone smoking nearby. We would never come back would prefer some hot dogs at camp instead. Really disappointed in this place there's potential there but charging $25-$30 for a entree that is like hospital cafeteria food is just wrong. read more

Great find in tiny town near Yosemite. The restaurant is part of a larger hostel/lodge operation, and a majority of the patrons seem to be staying there, but we were really glad to find it. Solid, solid food - fresh and well-prepared, in a casual, rustic, fresh air setting. Pork chop, salmon, vegan cassoulet - everybody loved their dinner. And the desserts are fine, too. We ate lunch here and were pleasantly surprised. Our turkey sandwich on sourdough was so good. They have beer and wine also. The ambiance is woodsy with cedar siding walls and wagon wheel lighting, plus a fireplace and several leather couch sitting areas. My friend and I stopped by here on our way out of Yosemite Valley. We had met someone in the Valley from Oakhurst that recommended it. We arrived around 9:30am on a Monday, and there were about 3 other people eating. By the time we left, there were about 15 people. The restaurant is located on the property of a hostel/motel. It's tucked into the trees and was very cute and quiet. The restaurant is very homey and I loved the vibe. Mix & match tables/chairs, comfy couches, fireplace, games, lots of seating inside and out. We ordered our food and picked a seat outside. I got the California Breakfast and my friend got the French toast and fruit. My meal was simple, but yummy. It definitely needed some seasoning, but everything was well cooked. My friend said that the French toast and fruit bowl were delicious. They have self-serve coffee and you bus your own dirty dishes, but I actually love that. It makes things simple and adds to the homey vibe. I would definitely stop by here again either on my way to or from Yosemite (as I don't live in the area). read more

A hidden gem known by all the locals and bargain hunting travelers to Yosemite. It is a very rustic establishment with warm wood and mountain decor. Seating is communal and you serve yourself salad dressing out of repurposed #10 cans, as well as your own silverware, and soft drinks in bulk. You must also bus your own tables when done. The food is nothing short of excellent. It is all locally sourced and very well prepared with meat, fish, vegetarian, and vegan choices served in large portions. Entrees come with soup or salad and there are always two soups (one vegetarian/vegan and one not) and the soups are always very delicious. The chef likes to play with ingredients and is into fusion cuisine, but is not over the top. Everyone I bring there walks away satisfied. Definitely my favorite restaurant and it is only 10 minutes from my house. read more

We were looking forward to grabbing a trail lunch aka a build your own sandwich and condiments. We stayed at the Yosemite Bug Rustic Mountain Lodge for 3 nights. In the interest of saving money, and having a ton of food with us to cook, we didn't eat in the restaurant until the very last day when we were leaving. We had walked through it a bunch of times, and the food looked so great, and everyone we had asked had rave reviews about the food. The menu was interesting​, and they obviously care about sourcing, with the list of sources and food info they have posted to identify what is free- range, natural, locally sourced, etc etc. The coffee is really good. They also have big containers of lemonade, iced teas, and hibiscus that we had fun mix and matching. My son had the Italian sub, and LOVED it! Bread was great, and everything was really high quality. Very flavorful. Daughter and I split the greek salad with grilled chicken. Bright, fresh veggies, flavorful dressing, everything done perfectly. Would 100% go back here for a meal next time we are in Yosemite area. AND! Pro Tip...take your suit and go to the swimming hole after lunch. This was one of the highlights of our trip! read more

This is one of our favorite local hangouts. We have had work events there in a private room where we can just relax and enjoy ourselves. We've also gone for our own family dinners and they are especially wonderful for holiday dinners. There's just two of us now so it's great to go down and have a wonderful meal on a holiday. There are times where family shows up and we weren't expecting them on a holiday so we take them all out to the June Bug Café. It is a come as you are sort of place and the kids can relax and play games. During my kid's high school years, they also often hung out there and played boardgames and had great food (with adult supervision) and enjoyed talking to people from all over the world. read more

Wow. I can't believe this place has so many good reviews. I must have gone on an off-day. I would say that maybe I'll go back and re-review, but that's never going to happen. I will never go to this cafe again!! My siblings and I went to Yosemite for the first time two days ago. On the drive I searched for places to eat along our route. This place came up as one of the only places open (it was a Sunday) and also specifically mentioned having vegan and vegetarian menu items, which I hadn't even searched for, but being a vegan, that was a bonus! We arrived and it was pretty busy - there were a lot of people who had already been served. Everyone looked happy and everything seemed promising for us. The time was 9:45am so they were only serving breakfast or trail lunches to-go. We opted for breakfast. I didn't see any vegan menu items (except for a hummus wrap off the lunch menu), but in the corner of the breakfast menu it said "vegan options upon request". So I asked the gentleman at the counter what the vegan options were. He said that eggs could be swapped out for "tofu scramble." Ok! I'll do that...so I ordered the "California" which is "eggs", avocado, tomato and toast. I ordered it with hash browns added. My siblings ordered the chorizo burrito which come with hash browns. My meal was $11+, plus a $1 tip, came to just under $13. Our food came out at a reasonable time. We waited a little long considering how many people had already been served, but we didn't mind because we had the time. My food came out first and the toast was not hot. It was barely toasted, cold and limp. It was already getting soggy from the "tofu scramble" it was next to. The scramble was not a scramble at all. It was literally tofu just slightly crumbled up and heated up. It had literally no flavor. The hash browns also had absolutely no flavor and they were mushy. I got 1/4 of an avocado, and 3 small pieces of a small tomato, all of which still had the produce sticker on, and one of the pieces of tomato was the butt of the tomato. I have never put so many condiments on my food in my entire life. This meal was only slightly enjoyable due to copious amounts of ketchup, jalapeño tobasco, salt, and pepper. I was so upset about the lack of avocado and tomato, and the sticker on the produce and the butt of the tomato, that I went up to the counter and asked for another 1/4 of avocado and a few more slices of tomato. Unapologetically, I was served just a little bit more produce. No questions asked, thank God, or else I would have flipped my friggin' lid. My siblings food was either equally just as bad or worse. They said their burritos had absolutely no flavor or distinct texture except for onions (I joked maybe the texture was June Bugs, not onions). Their hash browns were also mushy. We were all incredibly dissatisfied and disgusted by this place. I am thoroughly disgusted by the lack of enthusiasm in the food. It is actually impressive how flavorless it was. It takes effort to make food that bad. There was absolutely no passion there. They are lucky Gordon Ramsay hasn't waltzed in there and ripped them a new one. I will never be back to this place. I stayed here as part of a class (WFR Recert). The option to buy a meal plan was really nice. We enjoyed staying here enough that we decided to stay past the course. My wife and I purposefully didn't order all of our meals that we had paid for so we could eat those meals later so, I was a little disappointed that the meal tickets that we got during the course expired after the course was over, but it was understandable. The prices are reasonable for the area and the food is above average catering to visitors tastes. I can imagine that a place like this has a lot of staff turnover and limited training and that probably leads to quality inconsistencies (which we did experience during our stay), hence the occasional negative reviews. It seems like one of the most recent negative reviews came from someone who just wanted to leave a bad review. read more
