I arrived here around 9:25pm on a Saturday evening with my son. It wasn't busy at all. It was the off season (late October), so I'm sure that's normal. It took a few minutes to be seated, however. Maddie was the waitress and she was friendly and attentive the whole time. I got boardwalk lemonade with strawberry (contains alcohol). It came in a souvenir cup and was tasty. I ordered entrees at 9:36pm. I got the Fried shrimp dinner with fried and veggies (zucchini / squash mix). My son got the kids cheeseburger and fries. We received our food at 9:53pm. My shrimp was sooooo delicious. I had been craving shrimp and it hit the spot! The only downside, which is not necessarily any fault of the establishment, was that there was only one other table present but they were being vulgar and saying/discussing inappropriate things that my son didn't need to hear. Sometimes on vacay/ a trip you're a bit of a hostage. We stayed at the Sheraton 4 Points hotel (great) that houses this place on a recent kids sports travel weekend. The location is beautiful for VA Beach. Just based on timing and logistics we had to go to here for a drink/meal. Otherwise not the type of place we'd go to. The service is terrible. Friendly service, nice ocean view. That's it. Was staying for a week in the hotel where the restaurant shares the lobby (they are not affiliated) so tried both breakfast and dinner. Food was average, chain-level, the two times I was able to be served, but that wasn't the worst of it. I'm here in October (the "off season"), so, in spite of their own website advertising hours 7 am to 10 pm and until 11 pm weekends, I was turned away three times because they chose to close midday, ending breakfast early, and then to close early at night. I kept being told "it's slow". What kind of manager can't prepare a vacation-destination restaurant for the off-season? The full hours are advertised and the menu is extensive, but Jumpin Shrimp is clearly not capable of meeting either expectation in the off-season. A limited menu the off-season cook could handle and a commitment to advertised hours would go a long way to keep some business going--otherwise, just close for the season! I went down to the restaurant my last night at 8:55 pm feeling forgiving and thinking they couldn't screw up a glass of wine and a dessert; the doors were wide open but all the chairs were up and they were closing. :( read more

We were staying at the Sheraton, so it made sense to try a restaurant off the hotel lobby for breakfast. The place is clean and decorated, almost vibrant, and it has good views. The menu has plenty of options, including the Jumpin' Chicken & Waffles and Homemade Sausage Gravy & Biscuits. The food was good. My grandson and I were in VaBch for a Alastair summer vacation trip. After an evening of swimming in the Atlantic, we were hungry and this spot was only a short walk down from our hotel. The ambiance was good and there was no wait time to be seated. The service started out good, but then a few issues occurred which dampened the experience. First, we waited a good 10 minutes for the appetizer to come out and then it was cold. It was sent back and an hot order finally came, but then the entrees were still not out. It seemed like an enormous amount of time to get the food out. I guess this was because they were within the last hour of work; not sure. The manager did compensate us on the cold calamari and apologize for the slowness. If not for the fore mentioned issues this place would be a 5-star vice a 3 on this visit. Overall, we had a wonderful time at Jumpin Shrimp. The restaurant has a pretty decent space inside with plenty of seating outside for enjoying the beautiful seaside view. I cannot speak for the rest of the table, but I really enjoyed my tuna tacos. Compared to other spots on the Oceanfront, the prices of food and drink were pretty much similar. I have to admit that service was a bit struggle, but I think this was because we visited during a very busy weekend (Shamrock Marathon) during the off season. To me, it seemed as if the restaurant was a bit short-staffed because even the bartender was bringing food to the tables. The restaurant wasn't full / nowhere near full at all, yet we waited over 10-15 mins (maybe more) to be seated. There was no host at the front the entire time we waited and every single waitress / waiter walked past us about 5 times and never said a word; each one of them made eye contact with us multiple times and never said anything still. We stopped one of the waiters before he could walk past us again and asked about being seated and his response was "oh, yea I guess I can seat you" ... like really? Then once we sat down, 2 groups of white people came in and the ACTUAL HOSTESS / waitress immediately ran to the front and seated the groups of people, so they had no wait at all. From that we decided to go ahead, get up, and leave because we knew exactly what was going on. Completely ridiculous and gave the clear sense of blatant racism in this establishment. We went here for Happy Hour and invited some others to join us with the intent of staying for dinner afterwards. The bartender (Josh N) was rude and "appeared" racist. We ordered two drinks, one was untouched after the first sip; the appetizers were decent, but the service, attitude of the bartender, and overall vibe was such a turnoff. We had been making a seemingly endless walk down the boardwalk in an attempt to get to a different restaurant but we were thirsty and famished and decided to deviate from the plan for a couple cocktails and starters. However, once seated at the bar this beautiful young lady named Kathryn was so pleasant, so hospitable, so welcoming, so warm, so thorough, such a class act and a connoisseur of fine drinks that once seated, we stayed seated, ordered several appetizers two rounds of drinks and full entrees. Every single drink that she recommended was a hit. Please try the Coco Lime if you visit and ask for Kathryn at the bar. The Lumpias she suggested were so delicious that we had to order a second round. The Ultimate Seafood platter was spectacular even down to the sides. The Crab legs were very underwhelming and lacked season/flavor the menu says a different crab leg from the one you actually received, and the Alfredo was completely made with cheese the entire dish reeked of cheese I couldn't take more than 3 bites before ask for a box just to be courteous but i didn't actually plan on eating it later. I was waited on in about 2-3 minutes. This was fine because I already scoped out the menu prior to arriving. I ordered a Cobb salad and a cup of She Crab Soup. It's actually a little chilly in Virginia Beach today. The atmosphere is family friendly and they offer outdoor seating as well as indoor. Food arrived quickly. The She Crab Soup is very good w/ plenty of crab in it. the salad is as good with fresh ingredients. Prices were not too bad either. It's a 4 stars for me!! Service was terrible 3 hours in this place from the time we ordered the food until we left, we did more waiting than anything my grandkids food came first they finished there food and we still had not received our seafood boil. 45 minutes into waiting thinking our food was coming waitress comes over to verify our order. We were so glad to find Jumpin Shrimp on our last night in Virginia Beach. It was about a half mile walk along the boardwalk from our hotel and was such a great find. I had the Baja Shrimp Tacos and they were SO good and had great toppings on them. It was the perfect pre-race meal before my half marathon. They do have inside and outside seating, but the night we went it was pretty cool out so we sat inside. We will be back again for sure when we come back next year! read more

The outdoor seating had a canopy/covering to provide shade. The ocean breeze was cool and refreshing. Service was great. Food was delicious. I recommend the crab dip to start off. This place was the only available option compared to the restaurants in the surrounding area. To put it bluntly--the food was bland and they have the audacity to have seafood boils. The "flavor" was awful and spicy. The calamari was fried too hard. Burnt and crispy. The seafood trio had the blandest, un-garlicky flavored potatoes. They looked like dark mush. The crabmeat was soaked in butter and the shrimp and scallops were dry with no butter or seasoning on top. The service was fine as we were able to get seated right away and our server was great. When it comes to VA Beach, I will try something at least once. Will not be back unless it's for a glass of wine. I didn't bother taking pictures of the food. I stayed in the hotel for several days and went to Jumpin Shrimp several times. Breakfast and afternoon oysters and drinks. I love the all day HH from 10-6 with $2 domestic beers and mimosas. And then throughout the day they have specials. 3-6 is $5 Crushes, $1 Oysters and 1/2 select appetizers. For breakfast I had the avocado toast plate and another time the smoked salmon. My husband had a burrito with Au Jus sauce. I enjoyed breakfast. It wasn't huge which I liked. I don't want to feel full 1st thing in the morning. Coffee was hot and they had French vanilla creamer. HH Oysters were good....not the best but very good and I would go back to enjoy the $1 Oysters. Service.... excellent! Rhonda is awesome and so is Lisa and Timmea. Oh. My. Golly. This place is amazing. The food was the best food we had all trip. We've been to Virginia many, many, many times, and somehow we've never been here. Big mistake on our part! Don't make the same mistake we did, you MUST come here. I got a burger because man I love my burgs, and it was awesome. It came with parmesan fries in a shape i've never seen before but they were incredible and I think it made them all the more delicious. NOT TO MENTION! The complimentary BREAD. Dare I say better than Texas Roadhouse... maybe. That's how good it is. Our waitress was very kind and we all loved the service. Also, I'm pretty certain they serve dogs here because we saw a waitress carry a dog food bowl outside to a table with a dog. Incredible.
