Had forgotten about this place until I had to wait for my car. Very broad menu breakfast and lunch. Good preparation was delicious and lovely - fresh French fries!! Of course great coffee. Would have been nice to have a heater going. Parking is tricky !!!! Get there early enough and you can find a spot out back if not it's meteor parking up and down the block. Our server seemed annoyed wasn't very helpful or friendly she didn't crack a smile until she brought us our check . Which was upsetting because I knew it was her last ditch effort at a tip . The water cups were filled up appropriately, and the food was made exactly to our specification. It was very crowded on a cold and rainy Sunday, which says alot because you have to wait in line while shivering. :) The place smelled very good, which is why we decided to stay. Honestly, I don't really see anything special with this place. I got the eggs benedict and it was because the waitress told me that it was "VERY GOOD".... the English muffin was very bland... the potatoes that came with most dishes were soggy. Overall, a very forgettable eggs benedict. My husband's pancake combo was large, but we were not sure why we were charge an extra $1.50 for scrambled eggs that supposedly came with the combo... we didn't bother asking though because we just wanted to get out of the cold. The owner was extremely kind, polite and very friendly as was our waitress Alex. Both very nice ladies. Came here for a Sunday brunch. The service is great. Everyone was very nice and attentive. I got a make-my-own omelette, and it was perfect. I've previously had their Paris toast (French toast made with baguette), and that was amazing. My husband got the mushroom omelette, and he thought it was very good. The bro-in-law got the eggs benedict, and he also enjoyed his meal. He said the hollandaise was a little on the lemony side, but that didn't bother him as much as the hard English muffin. They serve most of their breakfast entrees with their home style potatoes. They're not bad, but they look like there would be chorizo in it (the hint was the auburn colored grease), but I was disappointed to find out that there was not. The downside to Jumpin' Java is the tough parking situation (it's on Venture, so that's expected), but their coffee is also a little less than great. You know how sometimes you brew coffee too fast and you end up with some of the grinds in your coffee? That's how their coffee is. Overall, pretty delicious and will definitely come back. read more

Our first morning waking up in Los Angeles, California and we needed to decide on a place for breakfast. We had only two requirements: that it be close to our hotel and it had coffee. We are not picky. We are not adventuresome breakfast eaters - rarely straying from eggs and pancakes. But still we didn't want to eat in any restaurant that we could eat in at home. After perusing reviews, we settled on Jumpin Java, one of the closest to our hotel. I had already read the reviews on the carrot cake pancakes ($6.95 for two), so I didn't even need to look at a menu. The hubs settled on his usual eggs and pancakes, but instead of going the carrot cake route, he went with the healthy ultimate pancakes (6.95 for two). There is an option to get 4 pancakes for $7.95, and I can't even imagine how someone could eat four. I could barely finish my two, these are large pancakes. They were also excellent. My carrot cake pancakes far exceeded my expectations. I expected a sweet pancake flavored sort of carrot cakish - which it was not at all. There were bits of shredded carrots, plump raisins and walnuts - with a nice hint of sweet spices. They were absolutely perfect. The hubs loved his ultimate pancakes. I picked a beautiful morning for my first visit to Jumpin Java. Parking is hard to find, but there is an alley next door with parking, and you can park in back if you can find it. I arrived just before they got really busy. This is a small place, so don't be surprised if you have to wait. I love the ambiance of the place. Very awakening hehe I ordered the egg sandwich. Yum! It was big enough that I couldn't eat the potatoes. Next time I'll have to ask to leave them off. The Java was good and my sandwich was very good. Loved the patio area in front. My cousin and I visited for the first time and I am happy we found out about this place. Don't let the small size and out dated decor of this place fool you, they serve one of the most delicious snd high-quality brunch menus in all of Los Angeles. I ordered the cheesy grits with spicy Louisiana sausage (served with to poached eggs in the center) and the fench toast. My cousin ordered the chicken sausage crepes. We shared an order of breakfast potatoes. Everything was delicious. The french toast was probably the best I've had in a long time. The grits had a perfect consistentcy and paired well with the spicy sausage and poached eggs. The breakfast potatoes were tender and seasoned well.
