The owner opened the watch for us (first time in 40 years or so) and replaced the battery. It was a tuning fork mechanism and it should have begun humming with the new battery but unfortunately he was unable to work further on it because he could not source readily available parts and that perhaps a conductor had been damaged inside. Aside from that though, he (and his step grandson) were very kind and courteous handling every customer with care. We truly appreciated the effort and the respect we were shown. I've since taken a few watches there, and Gregory has either repaired them or explained why it wasn't possible. In one case, Gregory wasn't sure if his attempted repair of a badly damaged watch would work. When it didn't, he did not charge me for the time he spent to try and fix it. This is a family business. Gregory works with his wife and son, and they are all friendly and efficient. They remembered my name and took the time to explain to me what the repair involved and the options and costs for rebuilding/repairing an old watch of sentimental value. The costs seem about in line with other places I've tried in the past. If they're a bit on the higher side, they more than make up for it with the service I've received. If you want personalized, old-fashioned customer service and a watch and clock repairperson who really knows his stuff, this is the place. (Hint -- go just before the hour, because it's fun to hear/see all the cuckoo clocks, grandfather clock, etc., chime at once.)

While understanding that using my American credit card might be difficult to get a refund the person responding to me informed me they don't do any refunds for this and made the offer for me to bring it in next time I'm in town. No offer for credit at the store, sending the watch in to get fixed nothing. So now my $700 watch (I've only worn for about a week) sits on my dresser waiting to be fixed because I'd rather not spend another $50 to get it fixed again.
