I've been coming to Julie's Nails in Pinole for years, so I was excited to see how things would be under the new owner, Nathan. I needed a same-day appointment, showed him an inspiration photo, and he did an amazing job. The shape was exactly what I wanted, and the airbrushed design came out beautifully. I originally wanted a more detailed design, but Nathan explained that those are best scheduled during a fill appointment so he has enough time to do them right. I really appreciated his honesty instead of feeling rushed. The appointment was reasonably timed, the pricing was fair, and I left very happy with my nails. It was also nice to see Julie still at the shop. Congratulations to Danny on his retirement, and congratulations to Nathan on this new chapter. When I first moved to the area 10 years ago this was my go to place. They always took care of me. Then, I stopped getting my nails done for awhile. I recently went back and I have to say the service and the quality of work was great. I'm going to have to keep this place as my go to place. Just remember it's always good to make an appointment, but they do take walk ins. However, it's best to make an appointment because they sure can get busy. Avoid this place! For starters they charge for a manicure that was not done properly. There was no massage, no hot towel, and no cuticle oil. I went in to get my acrylics removed and she pried them off, hurting my nail beds the whole time. Even after I told her she was hurting me she continued. My fingers are sore to say the least. I can't say enough great things about Julie. She's so quick and efficient, but still super detailed--every set comes out perfect and just how I expect. She's honestly just talented at what she does, and I always leave feeling amazing. On top of that, she's the sweetest! She's so accommodating and easygoing, which makes the whole experience super relaxing and fun. The quality and attention to detail here is lacking. I came in with a very clear direction of what I wanted and it was poorly executed. The young lady who was getting her nails done before me got something very similar to what I wanted, so I am thinking "cool, this is going to go well." Spoiler alert - it did not go well! First I started with the person who I was confident would do the style I want (because I had just seen her work a few moments before) only for her to start my nails then pass me off to someone else. I don't like that at all. Don't start a job and promise a style only to stop half way with no clear communication. I was not pleased with that. But I was just a little to happy that I actually saw someone with the same style looking very good that I just gave the whole situation the benefit of the doubt. But babyyy, never again. Not here. Once we got down to the polishing and the style that is when it got bad. The first time (because they had to redo them), I told them I didn't like it because it did not look like what I asked for at all and it was silver. They took it off and suggested that it was because of the based color and that it needed it to be a pink base. I am like oh kay let try that because what we had was not it at all. So we change the color to a pink and try again. It still is not what I wanted. At that point I am just like let finish this up and call it a day because it felt like they were trying to convince me that I didn't know what I was saying or what I asked for and what I was told could be done. I asked for the glazed donut look (Hailey Bieber nails-I will insert a picture for reference), what I got was buttermilk bar! Lumps, polish uneven and all over the place. Mind y'all, these are my wedding nails. I am going out of town for my wedding and didn't want to have to get them done out of town. I ain't saying you should do anyone nails better than the next (we all deserve to have fire nails!), but when the client states it's for a special occasion I feel like there should be more attention paid to the details, right? I was planning on getting my toes and hands the same, but there was just no way. I got basic toes and will definitely have to go get my nails redone. Not at all what I wanted. I don't recommended anything but the basic here. Regular non special occasions only here otherwise you might be just as disappointed as me. read more

I had an amazing experience getting my mani pedi. They have great customer service and do a great job.

What an experience. Booked an appointment a week and a half in advance for two pedicures and a full set with either Julie or Danny since my bestie was going on a Bali trip. I made this appointment for 5:30pm after work and they gladly took the appointment over the phone. When we arrived, Julie asked "how can we help?" in her usual unwelcoming attitude tone but I come to Julie's because they don't decent work for an okay price point. Well, Im never coming here again. Since my friend was also getting a full set they rushed her pedicure! I timed it it was literally 15 mins. They took no time to cut her cuticles and she said the pathetic brief "massage" she got received it felt like the tech was trying to hurt her he was really rough. The fact I know she was rushed is she was done to move onto her nails and I sat in the chair receiving services for my pedi for a whole additional 30 mins!! The best part - so as we were getting our pedicures Julie said after my friend was done she would get her full set done by him. I said "I called a week and a half in advance for you or Danny though" she proceeds to ARGUE with me and say "Well do you want designs? Because if not he's fine" I say "It doesn't matter, I requested either you or Danny in my appointment and I even confirmed on the phone" she was quiet. BUT THEN when my gf finished her quick ass rushed ass pedi, the nail tech proceeds to take her to her table to do her full set. I speak up again on my friend's behalf and say "SHE DOESNT WANT HIM. SHE WANTS JULIE OR DANNY PER OUR PHONE REQUEST" Julie yet again proceeds to fight with me on why its fine. At this point, my friend and I are over it. If you couldn't accommodate a 5:30pm appointment because you want to be out early or by closing then don't take the appointment over the phone and waste my time. After my friend waited in the chair for 30 more mins aftef I was done with my pedi we left and went to Valley Nails instead for her full set to spend money at a place that actually puts the customer first. Oh, and our pedicures mind you were $45 each!! Now that's pretty standard for a gel pedi, but not when its a 15 min pedicure. Know they will cut your services short when you have multiple services so they can rush you out factory style. Im so appalled by the attitude - won't be back. read more

I still come here when I need a pedi or a mani because it's down the street from my house. I think ima stop though ! When I go for a color change or a polish on my nails with no other service added I am being charged for a full serviced manicure and sure it's a shop but that's not okay ! I literally give tops every time as well for any service I get so with a polish "change" which I only had polish on two nails my total was $45 with a tip I paid $55 ‍ ontop of paying that my nails look like SHIT , my nails can prove it , there's evidence of my first layer of gel polish not drying before the top coat was added. I grew out my toe nails to get the perfect shape and I went to Julie's to receive a pedicure and the botched my big toe nail !! Not to mention I had a wedding to attend with a knee length dress . Obviously, my toes were going to be in full display. I made a comment to the lady doing my pedicure, I asked her why she left my toe nails uneven and she replied they're even. To start, I've been coming to this salon for about 2.5 years now and I'm so thankful this place has been able to open up fully and maintain a safe environment during this pandemic. Customer service here is and has always been a priority, I've only ever been met with kind/friendly service any time I've come in or spoke to someone on the phone. All of the technicians have their own techniques and are very good however my go-to/favorite tech is Kevin! He always takes his time to make sure every nail is perfect not to mention he is always very gentle with my thin/sensitive nail beds. I also really enjoy the quiet and peaceful environment, it's always so relaxing compared to other noisy salons I've been to in the past. The tech who did my pedi was very gentle and did a good job. Kevin did my acrylic nails and all I had to do was show him a picture of the design I wanted and he got it down beautifully. I paid in cash but also heard other customers pay through Zelle, so I'm not sure if they accept card transactions. Sadly, I'm giving Julies two stars not because the place isn't good, but because they have someone who rushes and doesn't do a good job. I've had her for a pedi as well and she also rushed through it without giving it a second look. My nails were poorly polished and she didn't bother to fully take off polish off the skin. She left pieces of nail that should have been brushed off still connected. She also tends to be careless while filing and it hurts so much This doesn't mean I won't go back, it just means I'm going to ask that they don't give me that lady. I scheduled an appointment here before I left to LA for the weekend. I highly recommend making appointments even though they take walk-ins. They are even busy in the middle of the afternoon on weekdays. I had this young teenage boy do my nails. English was poor but he understood exactly what I wanted. He was meticulous about my nails which I can appreciate. I do wish he scrubbed my heels more since I haven't gotten a pedi in awhile. (Eeeek) Unfortunately they don't provide great massages for either pedicures or manicures. And their pricing is unorthodox for a nail salon. They have a price for just gel polish, price for gel + cuticle cut, and a price for all the above. I don't understand why they can't just have a flat rate. This place is hit or miss. I've been here a handful of times and was pleased with my experience which is why I'm not giving a one star. Would have given three but my experience recently was terrible. I went in for a gel mani and pedi. The guy who did my services was terrible and I had to ask him to do things a normal nail tech would do. (Cut my cuticles , scrub ect) It seemed it was his first day and he didn't know what he was doing. He was in a rush and very unprofessional. The massage was mediocre. Instead of soaking my gel off my nails he was trying to pick it off with the cuticle cutters. I had to ask him to stop and soak them off. The thing that really set the experience to terrible was the fact that now when you get a gel manicure, the massage and hot towel are extra! I've never heard that before in all my years of getting nails done. When I asked them when did it change, they stated it's always been like that. That I know for certain is not true bc in the past it has been included at this location. Needless today I'm done with this shop and will be on the hunt for a new one. read more
