Went for a team dinner on a Tuesday party of 11. It was great, our server was so friendly and very accommodating. My coworker wanted a bloody mary and they didn't have the ingredients but went out to buy it so they could make his drink. The main platters for 2 on Tuesday are 50% off. Duck, lamb and prime ribbon (cote de bouef). We had escargot in cream sauce, grilled octopus, steak and salmon tartare and cherry chaud. You know w had a vegetarian and he was able to eat well too. Not a big beef eater so although we went on a Tuesday when the steak was half off, I got the chicken. Came with a lot of fries and some veggies. Food was good but I don't think worth the price for the amount of chicken provided. The ambience was nice but dining experience was very dark. We were seated at the back and I couldn't see my dish to tell if I was about to eat a mushroom or a piece of chicken. Service took awhile. We decided to try this much raved about place and it certainly held up the the hype. They "walk the talk". Our person was Goergiana, who was not only terrific but extremely helpful with the menu options. Jules has a 1/2 price Tuesday special with regards to main dishes and we opted for the steak platter, done medium. It was perfectly seasoned and the fries were classic Parisian "frites". The cut had just the right amount of fat without being grisolly. Our "appy" was the scallops which were slightly undercooked but with just enough sear on the outsides. This is not a negative, but an observation. We quaffed our thirst with Aperol® Spritz, the perfect summer cocktail. They could have added a titch more soda, Prosecco or Aperol as my partner thought it seemed a bit "shy on the levelling up", but again, the taste was right. We ended the meal with an espresso and Tarte aux Myrtles. This is a blueberry pie with a marzipan base. The crust was classic French buttery and flakey. It was a hit. Good portion and massive taste without being overly sweet. The restaurant per se was not jammed when we arrived as there were a number of empty tables. I'm assuming they were booked like we did. Note to patrons, they book with a credit card and if you fail to attend, you will be dinged $25. I think this is perfectly fair as this is not a "MacDo" as their caption reads - "Ceci n'est pas un macdo". Totally legit and terrific ambiance/vibe. It's not a feast without some steak & this time we feast Jules Bistro in Leslieville Famous for their half-priced steak platter, I managed to get a table for 2 more than 1 month in advance! My verdict: it's quite overrated (I'm sorry!), for a medium-rare steak it's kinda tough & the peppercorn sauce was somewhat bland, it didn't really hit the star of the show is the definitely the fries, it's giving McDonald's honestly I had high expectations given the hype around Jules Bistro, also the service was kinda meh. Unfortunately, I was not here on a Tuesday but definitely have had it before and it's delicious! I got the steak frites for myself that came with a 6oz. striploin steak served with fries and salad. Fries were perfectly fried and crisp. Steak was good for its price. You can't go wrong with this meal at $26.95! Dont' skip on the creme brulee to end your meal though! Stopped by for lunch and got: - Salmon Tartare: Salmon was fresh, though was a bit crumbly and would have liked just a bit more seasoning. - Steak Frites: The fries were amazing - properly stringy, crispy, and just the right amount of salt. The striploin steak was ok but just a bit chewy. - Grilled Octopus: Liked the spicy oil rub, and the octopus was cooked really well. Side potato salad was ok though a tad lumpy. Last night my wife and I went to Jules Bistro for the first time. The restaurant had really good ambience and I really liked the open concept kitchen. There was a lot of art through the restaurant and one of the walls was a giant chalkboard with their menu and specials written all over it. It looked like a classic French bistro. It wasn't exactly fancy or fine dining but it had some nice little touches such as the glasses and steak knives they used. My only complaint was that the music was pretty loud and at times my wife and I had to almost yell in order to hear each other. Now to the food - the specials for the day sounded delicious, especially the green bean salad and the spicy grilled octopus but we came there for one thing - the cote de boeuf for two. The cote de boeuf platter included a 24oz AAA ribeye steak, a mountain of crispy shoestring fries, mixed greens salad and a grilled whole tomato, served on a wooden cutting board. The portions were huge and very filling for two people. The steak was quite tender and the salt, pepper and dry rub seasoning complimented it very well. We found some parts of the steak, mainly around the muscles and fat to be chewy and harder to cut through, but that might be because the steak we ordered was rare. Next time we will definitely go with medium rare. The fries were crispy, salty and not too oily, they were excellent. The salad was especially good because the vinaigrette based dressing and all of the greens really helped to contrast the heaviness of the steak and fries. The cotes du rhone we ordered was also very good and reasonably priced. The staff were all very friendly and there were no complaints whatsoever in terms of the service. We will be back to Jules Bistro again soon as there are several menu items we are interested in trying. Four stars. read more

Boy was I stuffed after Jules. Came here for a celebratory dinner and it did not disappoint. For a table of 4, we ordered a variety to share family style and it was plentiful. The ambience and service was amazing. Really intimate setting that lets you talk without having to shout over the background noise. I'm loving the east end and what it's becoming. The cote du boeuf is a must get. Shares of course. This will fill you up on its own so come hungry. The fries were cooked to perfection. Crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. The tartar and escargot were amazing appetizers that was really well done. I could have gone without the grilled octopus if I really had to nit pick at something. Came here on a Tuesday night for their infamous 1/2 off Cote de Boeuf plate and it did not disappoint! The portion is quite large and the food was well seasoned, cooked properly and tasted great! Also started with the steak tartare which was also well portioned and seasoned. This is definitely one of my all time favourite restaurants. First experience was with the Jules on Spadina downtown (which I've been to a few times) and this one does not disappoint. If anything, it's much roomier, close to other bars, and great for east enders! The service was phenomenal. They were incredibly attentive and gave fantastic recommendations on both wine and food. We came on a Wednesday and low and behold, it was half price wine bottles! A MUST ORDER is the octopus! Pay attention to the chalk boards!! We were originally ordering a different app but saw that the octopus was a special and immediately changed to it. It is honestly one of the best (if not the best) octopus I've had in Toronto. Crispy ends and incredibly tender...always ask if it's available. We also ordered the Cobb salad for some greens which was a decent portion as well. We then had the Cote de beouf as our main which they cook to perfection. Served with shoe string fries and eggplant rattatouille, it is more than enough for 2 people. And at about $60, it's a steal for the quality and quantity you get! Also last thing to note is that they have half price Cote de beouf on Tuesdays and half prixe wine bottles on Wednesday! This is so awesome. I never knew this place had multiple locations! I've always wanted to come here and finally have. This is an underrated place and feel it needs more attention. The vibe and atmosphere is great. I love how the vibe feels authentic. We didn't get the classic popular Coete de beouf which is a huge platter of steak frites and salad for two people. And that looked so damn delicious! I instead got the peppercorn steak which was a better grade then the steak frites. And my oh my, oh sooooo goood!! It was to perfection. The fries also surprised me to be the perfect fry! I also got french onion soup, it was very diner bistro like, it didn't come with the tons of cheese unfortunately but was very tasty. ABYSMAL SERVICE. The way we were treated at this establishment as Black patrons was appalling. I will admit, the food was great, but the service provided to us was horrible and left a bad taste in our mouths. Red flag number one: upon excitedly arriving at the restaurant, we did not receive anything remotely close to a warm welcome. What looked to be the manager or owner (an older gentleman with gray hair) did not even say hello. He simply walked up to us and waited for us to say why we were there. We were friendly and positive, and he looked at us as if we were dirt on the bottom of his shoes. That really set the tone for the rest of the evening. Second red flag: while we were eating, the male server with the dark hair/ponytail went to check on EVERY SINGLE TABLE except ours. It was as if we weren't even there. Very strange. But wait, it gets even worse: we overheard the same server ask another staff member (a blonde female server) to refill the water pitchers, and she proceeds to refill literally every single table's pitcher that was out of water EXCEPT FOR OURS, when ours was out of water! We were taken aback. The same server was QUICK to arrive at our table once she saw that we were finished with our meals and ready to pay, but not once did she (or any other staff member, for that matter) check in on us while we were eating, nor did she refill our water; only when we asked for the bill did she finally decide to refill it. That's not even where it ends! When we asked to pay, we told the female server that we would like one bill. After a super long wait, the aforementioned male server who never checked in on us or said a single word to us after we made our order finally arrives at our table... with separate bills. When we corrected him and said we wanted one bill, he didn't even apologize, and instead walked away and came back with one bill. Only then, right when we were about to pay, were we finally asked about our experience. The whole night was a very disheartening and shocking experience. I'm quick to give people the benefit of the doubt and hate to jump to conclusions, but after so many red flags, I can't help but think there was some racial element at play, given that we were the only Black diners in the restaurant and the only ones being treated poorly. I noticed how attentive they were with other diners, so why weren't we given the same treatment? We're thoroughly disappointed in Jules Bistro; we were looking forward to getting out and trying this local restaurant now that indoor dining is finally permitted, but we definitely will NOT be returning and urge all Black diners to keep this review in mind. read more

it was fantastic! we chose the Leslieville location on a Tuesday night and we're glad we did - seeing as they do half prices specials! it was super cozy and the service was great - nothing fancy but just efficient. we started with the steak tartare, which was so good, very flavourful and almost sweet. it's served with toasted baguettes and before we even finished, the server got us an extra couple pieces when he saw we ran out - they were a bit too hard for my liking but the tartare was still great with it. we also had one order of the Côte de Boeuf - 24oz AAA striploin, bone in. it's served with fries, salad and ratatouille. it was delicious - didn't expect much from the steak but wow it was so good. i don't anticipate much from steaks when eating out (unless it's Jacobs) but this steak was so well seasoned, extremely flavourful and cooked perfectly medium rare. it is a generous portion for 2 and we were definitely satisfied. you just can't beat the price for the quality and quantity of food! i can't wait to be back and that's huge considering I don't usually crave red meat nor do i eat it often. read more

Aside from that it seemed like they only had one server working the whole restaurant. So it took awhile to even be acknowledged. We did the prix-fixe with french onion soup (really good), caesar salad (okay), steak frites (okay), chicken tender filets (good), crèche brûlée (okay), and chocolate mousse (good). Let me preface this review by saying that i used to be a Jules Bistro regular before the pandemic. Knowing that the pandemic has been tough on everyone, it still does not justify the current quality and quantity at Jules Bistro. Their quality of meat has become essentially inedible, it is absolutely terrible. Most of the piece of the steak they give you is chewy, and the quality of the meat is at a diner level. I used to always get the salmon-frites, and the size of the salmon was a decent size. The piece i got last night was two inches long and one inch wide. The issue here is that this restaurant is taking advantage of customers. Their quality has diminished, their serving sizes at 1/10th of before, their prices have increased and the have gone out of their way to make things that were previously included in the price (i.e. ratatouille) an extra cost. I don't like being taken advantage of. Just a caution to future diners. read more

For $70, this restaurant offers a beautiful kicked up 24-oz Steak Frites with a side salad and a skillet of vegetables. On Tuesdays, the carnivorous offering for 2 can be had for only $35! Here comes the scoop: My girlfriend and I arrived on a Tuesday for our OpenTable reservation at 6:30. The restaurant was still quiet, with lots of seating everywhere. It was dimly lit, with fresh flowers and a candle at each table. There was really only 1 thing to order, and yet a choice still to be made. Between enjoying the extra savings on dinner for 2, or getting twice as much food for the usual price, I let loose my inner savage as we ordered a platter each. After 25 minutes, the food arrived; steaks cooked perfectly to order, the fries crisp, light and not greasy along with fresh salads and vegetables to boot. The steak was well seasoned, juicy, thinly sliced and cooked evenly. Life was good. To my surprise and delight, we conquered the food. With only our 2 full rib steak bones purposefully left intact, we asked our server to box them for our Chowchow at home before asking for the bill to be on our way. After a few minutes, I noticed the server hadn't come back before the other server would offer us the dessert menu. We politely declined and mentioned we were just waiting on the bill, and our take out bones for the dog. I was a little skeptical since she took a few minutes (I assumed she may have forgotten) so I told him if she did, it was no big deal and we were ready to settle. He returned with the bill, we settled up, and he assured us she'd be back with the takeout. Sure enough, we got our takeout box and were on our way. After stepping out, I realized the box felt light and to our surprise on checking, the server did forget and had packed us someone else's garbage bone in the box (a single bone in the state of a gnawed-and-done fried chicken drumstick remnant). Gross. I wasn't disappointed that she forgot, but that she covered it up and has us wait as she packed us another table's garbage after mistakenly disposing of ours. Mediocre food, coupled with aloof and disconcerting attitude of owner/server. We attended as a wedding party of 6, and had previously met and spoken with the owner, who seemed involved and engaged with his business. Sadly, this was not the case when we ate there. The food was just mediocre, the squash soup was watery as if they were stretching the last remains to accommodate our group. The escargot tasty; the quiche dry and looked as though the cook had 'blown torched' the topping; the sea bass tasty; the chicken dry but accompanied with a creamy sauce so it was less noticeable, and the salmon very overcooked. When we told the co owner/server about the salmon, he slightly nodded and then ignored us. We then spoke with the owner we had initially met and he offered to cook another salmon. When this finally appeared, it was cooked on the top, but very raw in the middle. When we told the co owner/server, he unhesitatingly admonished us for touching the salmon with our fingers to point out to him the severe undercooked food!. He then grabbed the plate in a huff and took off. Needless to say we were astounded and more so when the bill came and instead of removing the entire salmon meal cost they charged a hefty fee for fries and salad ( which wasn't eaten as the plate was removed with the food on it) and only removed the cost of the salmon. No apology for two poorly cooked and inedible meals, and the fact that one of the guests had eaten nothing. Suffice it to say we will not be back. Several of us are business owners in the area and expressed extreme dissatisfaction wth how this matter was handled (or not). Too many other restaurants in the area that will stand behind their product, give great service with a smile and apologize if and when needed. read more

Four of us went to Jules on Thursday. The couple we were with had been to their Spadina location previously. The starter specials were amazing - grilled octopus and escargot. The perfect amount for four people. I thought the menu was a bit limited, and sadly they were sold out of Tuna. I opted for Salmon, which was slightly over cooked. I throughly enjoyed our server.
