This is exactly what Rabun County was missing! An elegant farm and excellent dining option for all. The farm is absolutely gorgeous. We went twice in one day -- first to pick flowers from their garden and then in the evening for dinner. It was my first time dining out since March due to the quarantine and while I was a bit hesitant, we dined outside on their patio. The staff was very friendly and the meals were delicious. The shrimp & grits and the salmon are a must. If you have room for dessert, the chocolate mousse was decadent. The salted caramel cake was good too but a bit too sweet for me. Aside from the restaurant and garden, they have a coffee bar and gift shop. If you're not up for shopping or dining, it is still a great stop to take some Instagram-worthy shots! read more

We chose to celebrate Mother's Day 2023 at Julep and it was perfection. The service was so personal and every person was cordial. The food was exceptional and our 8yo and 8mo both loved many of the choices (it was a buffet for Mother's Day). The ambiance was clean and fresh and family friendly. We fed the ducks and ponies and saw chickens. Played a short but sweet game of corn hole. Unfortunately we left our 8yo's little lovey (Duckie) at the farm but the next day the OWNER went in and found her waiting for us...our daughter was relieved and so were we! Thank you, Rick! He even gave us a stuffed mommy & baby duckling, just as an added kindness. Personal attention and extremely thoughtful. We'll be going. Already have plans! read more

Fabulous time. Jennifer was our server and she was amazing. I had the gumbo soup - top notch, followed by the butternut squash ravioli- omg!! Amazing. I tried 3 of the 6 fall cocktail menu: the apple cider sangria, ginger pear fizz and the cranberry orange mule. All of them were great. Ate here with my wife Friday night, Oct23, with reservations at 6 PM. drove in and was immediately impressed with the buildings and grounds. Clean, manicured, lovely farm. The outbuilding with the fancy chickens and herb garden, the yard with the turf and couch, and stuff to do- all very cool. The interior of the main building with the store looked like a magazine shoot. The main dining room was wonderful- huge windows, fireplace, tall ceilings- all great backdrop for the original artwork on the wall. Our waiter was top notch. One of the best we have ever had- even better than Chick Fil A ;). The smoked trout dip with sesame seed crackers (GF), very tasty. We had blackened shrimp and grits. Perfectly cooked, and a steak, again perfect. The night was great. Go. Make a reservation though, it gets busy. read more

Originally had stopped by this place to grab sandwiches and snacks on the way to the Highlands. Delicious! More recently we went back for the Valentines Day supper. After being seated promptly in the stunning dining room we both chose the prix fixe option and had filet which was seared to perfection. Not often medium rare actually comes out just right (why Is warm red center so hard to grasp?). The specialty cocktails were refreshing and went down quickly. As did dessert! We grabbed some small batch Bloody Mary mix on the way out which was primo the following weekend. Looking forward to returning soon to try their regular menu! read more

We come up from Hickory about once a year to stay at Fire Mountain, which is wonderfully quiet and remote. It's about a 10 minute drive into Highlands, which has been our go-to for lunch and dinner. However, it's gotten so crowded and almost impossible to find a place to eat without reservations days in advance. We were frustrated with the crowds of people and the lack of a nice, quiet place to enjoy an evening meal. But... I remembered passing this BEAUTIFUL place called Julep Farm on our way in, and remarked how cool it looked and that it appeared to be a wedding venue. So on our last day, we were not wanting to go back to Highlands for a loud, crowded dinner, and I turned to Yelp to see what was maybe in Dillard. Up popped Julep Farm! I perused the menu and the photos and visited their website where I discovered the story of the current owners and their connection to Locust Grove in Louisville, KY, my hometown! We made reservations for that evening and let me tell you, from the moment we turned off the road into the parking area, I knew this was going to be a fabulous experience. Chill music was wafting through outdoor speakers on our walk in, and the whole vibe of tiny lights, beautiful landscaping and upscale, clean and modern decor was absolutely stunning. You enter through the gift shop, which is a destination in itself. Very unique and modern chic items from baby clothes, home decor, wedding gifts, books, jewelry, accessories... I could have spent hours there. It kind of had an Anthropologie vibe. The staff is so friendly and welcoming, and we were taken to our table right away. Beautiful big windows all around, with tall ceilings and white walls - very open and comfortable. Our server, Ross, was exceptional and very friendly and attentive. He was super helpful with offering drink and food suggestions - I had the best espresso martini I've ever had and my husband had one of their very unique specialty drinks - something with gin and lavender syrup. Great selection of wines, which we enjoyed during dinner. And of course a stellar collection of Kentucky bourbon! The food was OUTSTANDING - the Cesar salad was delicious with a very rich homemade dressing. I had spare ribs with garlic mashed potatoes and my husband had the salmon served on an amazing creamy concoction of corn and fresh vegetables. For dessert, he had the mini key lime pie and I had the carrot cake (per Ross's suggestion). Everything was so fresh and beautifully prepared. There were a lot of people dining, but no bothersome noise - maybe because of the high ceilings or some other noise cancelling feature, but we could easily carry on a conversation without hearing distractions. We finally had a chance to stop and check out their restaurant. Their site is beautiful. It is also a venue and would make any bride happy. The store is great and then there is their food! Oh yumm! My friend and I split the bruschetta and the watermelon salad just so we could have crème brûlée for dessert! That, we did not split! The presentations of each plate of food was beautiful. At 12:40 while on the way to the restaurant, I received a call that they had no chef and there was no need to come down. I did go on to the restaurant because I was meeting family there. When I walked inside, it was pitiful! They were supposed to have a $70gourmet buffet! However, all I seen was a six foot table with a few picked over trays of food! Extremely disappointing experience today. First problem: Came in with the family (3 people) at 12:30pm and was given a wait time of 1.5H. Registered our mobile and got the text message. Stayed at the property and walked around. Time went by and never got the call so 1.5H plus later we go back to the front desk and they give us a table. Restaurant was less than 40% occupied so why didn't they call us earlier? So if we don't go to the desk they never call us!? Second problem: printed menu (not online. Printed) at the front desk had a Chicken Pasta Caprese that looked appealing since lunch time is all sandwiches and we wanted more. Get to the table and that menu doesn't have the plate. Asked the waitress and she said they don't have it. Didn't even bothered asking the kitchen. So we had to compromise and look at sandwiches. When we all agree to have burgers she comes to us and say they are out of burgers. Really?! The most simple common plate in the United States and you ran out of burgers on a Saturday at 2:30pm?! Waitress said they had a busy Thanksgiving weekend. So you are telling me you don't have a kitchen manager looking at inventory? So our options ended up being salads or two sandwiches we didn't want so we end up leaving without eating after 2 hours. Beautiful restaurants in a beautiful location. Amazingly Maintained. But something is just not run right. We visit the area every year, visited this location our first time and were very impressed. Since then we visited 3 more times and each time was failure. Seems like there's complete disconnect between the staff and the kitchen. Nothing comes out as ordered (not one dish) and food takes 30-45 minutes to come out (side of scrambled egg, over 30 min). Poor quality and almost insulting. The ambiance was pleasant, but unfortunately, although the hostess said she'd find us an outside table, we ended up inside at a table with high kitchen traffic. The food was also a mixed experience and ultimately what resulted in my rating. I ordered the strip steak (for $50, I might add), which was completely ruined by overcooking. I ordered medium rare, and it came out medium-well. I should have sent it back, but I hate eating in shifts on such an important occasion. My parents and I decided to do lunch here on a whim. We were so pleased with our meals! We started with the Apple & Brie Flatbread and the Smoked Trout Dip. The flatbread was full of flavor and served at the perfect temperature! I'm usually not a fan of smoked things but decided I would try the dip when it arrived. It was really good! They serve it with a few different types of bread and crackers in a green bell pepper. For lunch we ordered the crab cakes, the honey glazed salmon and the shrimp and grits. The crab cakes were full of meat; not fillers. They offer either a salad or fries as a side. The shrimp and grits were perfectly seasoned and a large portion as well. Salmon can be tricky since it can dry out really easily, but it was just right! We didn't have room for dessert but will definitely stop in next time we're in town! By the way, the Blood Mary was epic! The grounds are beautiful as well! It was so nice to look out the floor to ceiling windows at the mountains. This is by far the most beautiful venue for horrific food and service in NE Georgia. It's not hard to screw up a Burger or Filet but these geniuses have mastered it. When my filet came out well done tonight the manager came out and said "the place sucks, I've been through 8 chefs in the past 2 years, I put in my notice 2 weeks ago and I'm gone at the end of the month". Had the pleasure of a preview dinner with the new Chef Cernansky and I can tell you the food was de-lightful! Had a stellar scallop that was cooked to perfection with all the trappings. The service was out of this world attentive, and the portions were plentiful...for a reasonable price. The venue itself is brand new and so tastefully appointed in a magical combination of modern upscale with just a hint of rustic outdoorsy. We drove around the Farm to check out the quaint cottages, the wedding venue, barn, livestock area...and it's just such a well put together venue. Sunday Brunch at the Julep Kitchen? You bet. Finally!!! A place that even in times of crisis I can give a good review! If you did not notice there is a listing for Julep Kitchen and Julep Farms. It is a several acre complex with lodging, gift shop, restaurant and more. When your heading north 16 miles below the GA/NC line you turn right on the way to Highlands and its Just a few hundred yards on the right. There is plenty of parking. There are mini horses out front with an electric fence. DONT TOUCH THE FENCE. Im not sure if electric is on but dont take a chance and watch any kids or clueless adults. On entering check in with Hostess right off. Then you can wander in the gift shop while waiting. Today, midday on a Sat the menu had about 6 mains. All looked good. I had the shrimp and grits and it was very good. Spicy how I like it. Service was good with plenty of space between tables. They did have the now common sign at the entry they are short staffed but one would not have known otherwise. Lunch mains were $14 to $20. The place is new and the building seems to be quality construction. Everything was clean and neat. Seems to be a well done operation. If your headed north and want a nice place to eat stop here as it will be long drive to find anything to beat this. read more

Went to Julep Kitchen on August 26th of 2023. There were 10 of us for dinner. Rewriting this review because they must have protested my review but I stand by it and I think it was honest and fair based on our experience. Nice ambience, the wait was a little bit long (like 45-50 minutes) considering we had reservations and had taken the extra step of calling to confirm them. Most of the dining room was empty and in spite of that they sat us separately (remember had made reservations and confirmed them beforehand). Also, they were out of one of the entrées which was surprising because it was only 7:30pm but maybe we can chalk that up to limited supply due to them being a farm to table restaurant. Service was slower than the last time I was here. Food was good but honestly the service was "unenthusiastic" which pretty much set a negative tone for the dinner.
