    Quiche

We were driving through and stopped at the place next door which had a thirty minute wait for breakfast. So glad they did because this place was great! It may be the best quiche I have had in my life. My husband had the cinnamon roll which was amazing as well. We even brought a whole quiche home it was that good! Service was really good and everyone was so friendly and welcoming.

Stopped here on the way to Tallulah Falls for breakfast Cute tiny cafe style restaurant. Decent size menu with all the usual suspects on the menu. We had eggs, bacon, omelets, grits biscuits and gravy . The grits were perfect and light. I eat mine with syrup. I highly recommend the fresh ground sausage. My favorite was the biscuits. Fluffy, warm, large and delicious. I would go here for these alone. Staff was friendly.

Doesn't look like much but this place is AMAZING. I'm not a huge breakfast fan but their cinnamon rolls are to die for. The owner is a 82 yr. old woman that makes everything from scratch, even the bread! The server I think her name is Ms. Brenda was very sweet & was very knowledgeable letting us know the best routes to take when we get up to the mountains. 100% recommend for breakfast, lunch, or just a snack.

It may be a small place but the food was amazing and the service was great. I preferred it to the busy nature of the restaurant next door. We waited at the Rusty Bike for about 20 minutes and no one even greeted us. I had my husband go check next door at the Mountain Grill and it had no wait. The bakery had amazing breads and cinnamon rolls, and the breakfast was so tasty. We had the quiche and a Rueben. Both excellent choices! While the wait is a little longer than fast food service, you can tell it's made with love and care and the owner is the only one in the kitchen. She's worth the wait for sure!

I vacation in Clayton mainly for the BEST breakfast ever. Yes there is a wait but it is worth the wait. Susie is incredible. I have offered to move that way to help her with the restaurant. She just needs a decent staff to help out. I Love the Mountain Grill.

Exceedingly SLOW! It took 50 minutes to receive our food, and it was fairly small portions once it did arrive. We left hungry.

The biscuits were delicious and not too dry, but the corned beef hash was a little too salty (even for a fiend like me) and my omelet was both under and over cooked. Even if the food was ok, I have to call out the exceptional service we received. Our waiter was kind and attentive, clarifying whether we wanted sweet or unsweet tea (my California ass forgot I was in the south now), warning us the kitchen was running a little behind due to the morning rush, and in general being a gem of a human being. I'd come back for that treatment! Logistics: - limited street parking in front - indoor seating only

I call this our "blue highways" route, after the book by William Least Heat Moon. The rules are to only take routes that on the old atlas maps were "blue", and to stop and read any historical markers or signs. We like U.S. 76 through Westminster and Long Creek into Clayton. The point is, however, about 5 years ago, on a similar trip, we discovered the Clayton Cafe and it has become a planned destination for us along the way. The whole little township is lovely, with several interesting shops (esp. Butler Galleries). So, we have been here 6-7 times, and never been disappointed. But today, we were running late. We looked up the hours, which were 9AM to 3PM and perfect for our 1:45PM later arrival. Surprisingly, the restaurant was crowded at this late lunch hour. We were immediately seated at the only available 4 top. It was packed. The restaurant has two outdoor two tops, 2 indoor two tops, and eleven indoor 4 tops, for a max seating of 52. By 1:55, there was a wait list! People were even being turned away, and all different age groups were present, but the overall crowd was 50+, probably due to the peak fall foliage weekend, even though it was Thursday. There were even a few take out orders picked up. After prompt service and ordering, our food arrived at 2:05, about a 15 minute wait, which was impressive for the busy kitchen. I've written other reviews in the food and they all still stand. In fact, I realize that I go heavy here on the choice because it is so good. This time, as predictable, my order was the country fried steak, mashed potatoes, white sawmill gravy, collard greens and a biscuit. Five stars. Even though the steak and gravy was a little saltier than my current palate's liking, it was exactly the way it is supposed to be... I'm watching the salt in my older age, no fault of the chef's. Our tradition of the Clayton Cafe is now 6 years running g and we may just work this into a destination day trip. The nearby Tallulah Gorge is a nice attraction to add to our main event of the Clayton Cafe lunch. P.S. If fried chicken livers are the special, then the country fried steak will have to be "next time." And they do have plenty of healthy options, salads, a full breakfast menu, sandwiches, burgers, but we are here for the Southern Classics.

The meat and three along with the vegetable only options are welcomed changes to the family style only meal for those desiring smaller portions. In our experience, the food was served hot and was perfectly prepared. We chose white meat chicken and received two large breast that were excellent! The two catfish fillets and four slices of meat loaf were delicious. The vegetables were Lima beans, cabbage casserole, creamed corn, potatoes au gratin, slaw and a spring salad. All were served fresh with two biscuits and two corn muffins. The relish, apple butter and Sogrum-sage butter were delightful. We were blessed to have April for our server, and highly recommend her for your visit. She shared the history of the area and is proud of the changes and history of the Dillard House. Thank you for a great meal. The fried chicken is better than I remembered. Yes, the restaurant is open, and parts of the motel are being remodeled/updated and the new hotel is under construction. Don't let the remodeling deter you from the eating at the restaurant or enjoying your favorite drink from the bar.

Poor service, poor food quality. Not impressed at all…read more Ambience is nice, very spacious, newly built, restaurant. Friendly staff. Not very attentive at all. Say for 15 minutes before the manager had to obtain a server for our table. After the food was delivered, the server did not provide adequate service. I requested a water refill, which took an additional 15 minutes, because she continually forgot. Food quality wasn't the greatest. They served chicken, which consisted of 2 thighs and 2 drumsticks. Along with friend catfish filets, that had been way over salted. Both were very soggy. I ate half the thigh and quit. Veggies? Only vegetables were Lima beans, everything else considered vegetables, was a casserole. A table full of starches. Over rated and over priced. Sadly disappointed. If you want good southern food, go further south to Thomasville, GA. Go to O'Neals. You can fool some folks, but not someone that knows southern cooking. We won't return.
