Celebrated our anniversary with dinner at Julip Farms and they made it such a wonderful experience. The service was fantastic from the warm greeting as we entered to the impeccable service provided by our server, Chris. The food was next level. My husband had the filet. It was cooked perfectly, as ordered, and he said it was one of the best filets he has had in a long time. Chris recommended the shrimp and grits for me and it did not disappoint. We finished with dessert, crème brûlée and bread pudding - both wonderful. Julip Farms is absolutely lovely with beautiful views of the property and mountains from just about every table. What a beautiful setting!! Came here while staying in Clayton for Spring Break. They're open for dinner on Mondays so I figured I would give it a try. Made a reservation and arrived about fifteen minutes before to check out the grounds. Walked into the restaurant and the shop which is adjacent to each other. Waited at hostess stand for about ten minutes waiting for the host. Manager walked by me at least once. Never asked if I was waiting to be seated. Kept waiting and finally the hostess came about and had me seated at a table by the windows so I could take advantage of the beautiful views of the scenery and cottages. Waiter took quite some time to acknowledge me. He probably thought I was waiting for someone to join me. I placed my drink and dinner order at the same time. When I asked the waiter if there was any specials I was told nope. Ok. I ordered the braised short ribs. Drink was brought out after my entree was brought to the table. The portions were a bit smaller then one would expect at that price point. Waiter stopped by maybe once to check on me. Once I finished eating, I inquired about the dessert and of the five options only two were available. Which was ok. I had the bread pudding and it was a bit dry for my liking but still good. We thought we would give Julep Farms another try today. The last time we were here, over a year ago, service was disappointing. Our food took a while to come out and our wine and cocktails came out after our dinner was eaten! Since we like to frequent locally owned restaurants, we decided to come here for lunch today. Sadly, the service has not improved. We were seated outside and waited for at least 15 minutes watching servers come and go, congregate by the bar, and never once look in our direction. Finally, we left. When we spoke to the manager on the way out, he offered to make it right, but at that point it was too late. Take your chances here, or just eat at The Cupboard in Dillard! read more

Very nice place to eat... the people are super. We came for an anniversary and we're treated like family. The lady up front made us a Cappuccino earlier in the day. At dinner she moved us to a nicer table just to be nice. Service was great. I hear that they are a bit short on chefs and noticed a few people waiting with free wine! Not a bad situation in my book. My steak was over cooked, and normally I would have sent it back, but in the interest of having a pleasant evening, I at the almost well done Filet mignon rather than wait for a more proper med rare one.... I trust that they will fix this temporary problem... We brought our own wine. There selection is decent, but a bit pricey. We brought a nice bottle. They dropped the $25 corkage fee. We added it to our waiters tip. They have a very nice bar with a bartender who makes an honest drink.... Worth trying. The ambiance is super... light and airy with views of the hills. Exceptional. This place is the worst combination of pretentious, judgy folks that can barely provide the most basic service. I personally don't really care too much about service but this place was next level horrible. Said no meat with one dish as one diner was vegetarian, came out with meat. Didn't see our server for the next 20 minutes. Table next to us was undergoing the same level of horrendous service. If you want to be high brow, then execute like the best. Highly recommend avoiding this place and going to somewhere like Boots Steakhouse in Dillsboro or the Crown in Brasstown. Better food for better prices elsewhere. read more

We had been in the Highlands for a long weekend and ended up having lunch at JULEP FARMS on the way home- had I known what we had been missing out on we would have been staying at JULEP FARMS every time! Nothing against the Highlands, but the second I walked in the door I felt like I was in Malibu! I know it sounds crazy but I didn't expect such a cool vibe and was assuming it would be just another place like the others up the mountain. JF has nailed it. A perfect mix between contemporary and mountain type ambiance. It was much brighter inside than any other place nearby and was completely refreshing. the whole staff was amazing , not to mention the food! Everything from the playlist to the bar to the cute shopping areas surrounding the restaurant totally reminded me of a little bit of Fred Segal. Biggest bonus is that the owner is totally down to earth and working her butt off to make sure everyone has a great experience. Every single time we have eaten there, taken friends and family there, etc., the food has been mediocre at best and overpriced. We kept going back thinking it may improve, but quite the opposite. To top it off, I had two meals back-to-back on Valentine's Day that had plastic wrap INSIDE the food and they offered me a free cocktail and barely apologized as if the free cocktail should suffice. After a sub-optimal experience here 3 years ago, I unfortunately returned for lunch with my family. This is not about the food. We did not get that far. This review is about the total lack of interest in serving the customer. The lobby sign reads "Please wait to be seated." After several minutes the "hostess" asks if we had reservations. We did not, but the place was half empty. After 5 or so minutes, I inquired about being seated. The "hostess" said there would be a 10 or 15 minute wait. Again, the place was half empty and no one else was waiting. We left. As we got in the car, the owner/manager(?) approached the car with menus in hand saying our table was ready. I said we were just told 10 to 15 minute wait. I understand waiting when a restaurant is packed. I also understand why this restaurant was half empty. Had a great lunch at Blue Hound in Dillard. The $85 set price was fine but then it didn't include an appetizer, we bought one anyway, the Caprese salad claimed to be Buffalo mozzarella. In my opinion, it was not. Julep Farms and Julep Kitchen is a hidden gem near the GA/NC border. The menu is excellent, with specials available. We tried the truffle fries appetizer (easily enough for 4 people), the apple and brie flatbread appetizer (delicious and enough for 2-4 depending on how hungry you are). For lunch we each chose something different. I tried their take on the fried chicken sandwich with honey mustard and pickled okra. I would definitely recommend it! Super tasty. Bonus: they have a cute little shop, and the grounds are beautiful. Their flower and herb garden (with chicken coop) was a perfect spot for photos and to see a few animals. read more

The food is too inconsistent too often. I never see the same staff which is a little problematic as a local. Sometimes everything is perfect but more often than not the steaks are not even cooked to temperature correctly let alone the sides. I actually started this yelp account just for this review. We were here this past weekend and nothing came out correctl. The grounds are beautiful and the staff was friendly but it just cost too much for this many mistakes and inconstancy. Im doing 3.5 really. Its a holiday however if you are going to open, wellll staffing helps...i hesrd 2 ppl "called out" (replacements available I gather?). We all know staffing is an issue all over. Wait wasn't too long. Service was good. She was busy! View was BEAUTIFUL. Drink was tasty - blueberry mohito. The cranberry croissant- meh . Not much flavor and not much inside. We have a house nearby and have had lunch here at least six times. At least 75% of the time we have been dissatisfied due to service, food, or both. The 25% wonderful times compel us to give it one more chance. Today was the worst. Their chef quit, so they were staggering seating. Sat down 30 minutes after arrival, ordered quickly, then waited 45 minutes for our food. I was shakey from hunger so our server brought us and her other table French fries after 30 minutes. When our food arrived, the hamburger was not a double patty, did not include bacon or caramelized onion. The Brussel sprouts in the grilled brussel sprout and carrot dish were inedible as they were not cooked. You couldn't even cut them with the table knife. The sweet potato fries were greedy and undercooked. I spoke to the manager as the hostess really needs to tell people they won't be eating for an hour and a half so we can make an informed decision. In addition, if the manager know the kitchen is slammed, for gods sake put some bread snd butter on the table! read more

While the ambiance was really nice, and the service was good, we(four of us) found the food to be just okay. First we were told that no substitutions could be made, so not very accommodating. Two had the pasta and said it was nothing special. one of those two was going to take the remainder home, but decided against it. Another had the salmon and did seem to enjoy that. I had the shrimp and grits, since it was gluten free. Again, it was pretty mushy and not much flavor. Also, my Caesar salad was pretty unremarkable, with a few thin slices of Parmesan and not very crunchy lettuce. The creme brûlée was tasty at the end, however. Let me say I have never written a review, but felt the need. The folks that own it are great and their shop is gorgeous and the young people helping us there were wonderful!! We will not go again for dinner, but lunch on the patio is fun!!! read more

DILLARD, GA - Who would have thought this sleepy little mountain valley town would someday become the home of one of the cutest, most Instagrammable restaurant/farms EVER!!! Julep Farms sits on 22 acres of pasture land sandwiched between the mountains that make up SKY VALLEY to the East (one of which is the 2nd tallest peak in Georgia), Penson Knob to the North, George Mountain to the West and Chestnut/Oakley Mountains to the South. Just beyond its property borders is Mud Creek, but don't let the name fool you. This short but amazing waterway is responsible for two AMAZING nearby waterfalls. If you look carefully from Hwy 246 while driving, you can see Estatoah Falls cascading in the mountains just beyond the entrance to Julep Kitchen. It is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in all of Georgia. The other waterfall is located just beyond the golf course lake in Sky Valley. Julep Farms is owned by decorator, designer, & restauranteur Lauren Weaver and her husband Rick, who previously owned The French Market & Tavern in Locust Grove, GA (south of Atlanta). You don't need to step inside the restaurant to see she has an amazing eye for quaint details. The first visit I ordered the Bone-in Ribeye, which I did not enjoy. The seasoning was less than exceptional, the temperature was off and I really disliked my sides. Upon leaving, a staff member asked how we enjoyed our meal as I waited for my wife to use the restroom before our long drive home. She did not reveal she was the owner until the end of my rant and invited me back for a second meal on the house. I told her I was already compensated for my steak, but she warmly insisted by giving me her card. On my second visit I tried the Shrimp & Grits. The chef himself brought my meal to the table and also came back out to sit with us a spell at the end. He told me of the Thanksgiving spread they had a week prior and I drooled with every description! If ever I've been made to feel special and cared for at a restaurant it was here! My honest opinion of the food is between 3 - 4 stars, but EVERYTHING else about this place from décor, to ambiance, to service and charm is 5 PLUS. Not only will we definitely return because of the amazingness of the staff, we hope to make a long weekend of it in one of the gorgeous cabins for our upcoming 23rd Anniversary. Our options were slightly limited given traveling with a large puppy. However, even if we had all options, we'd probably have a hard time resisting coming here for every meal. Our only regret was finding it on our last day. The farm is impeccable and great to explore. The main shop and restaurant are beautiful and we appreciated the awesome covered porch that allowed unobstructed views of the mountainside during our brunch. We ordered the sunset julep and cinnamon maple latte to start, both 10/10. The Nola shrimp app was also perfection. Mains were the Julep burger and the shrimp and grits! Amazing, both plates cleared. Highly recommend and may return for dinner same day before we head home. Update we did return for dinner- all phenomenal. I ordered the prix-fixe of caesar salad, parm crusted salmon, and ice cream topped cookie desert. Derek ordered the brussel/carrot starter and butternut squash ravioli. Paired well with a bottle of wine and golden hour turned dusk set mountains. Amazing touch was the heater outside. After visiting several other dinner spots in the area that allowed outdoor seating for our pup, this was the first with heating and it was very appreciated as the temp fell. I must have gone in expecting something else... The gift shop was very nice. Our server was good, and treated us like she was glad we were there, but the seating staff was pretty stuffy. (Maybe I was dressed inappropriately?) The food was disappointing. The ambiance was okay, although I would have rather been seated in a more pleasant spot. I typically expect a better experience for the the cost. And please incorporate the 3% credit card up charge in the meal cost. Looking at the other reviews, I obviously am not the norm. Seems worth giving the place a try to find out for yourself. You will probably like it. read more

Overdue. Amid Covid. Quaint farm distant from the city. Julep Kitchen gives you that secluded and scenic feeling of country life. My sister and I came here to have a nice dinner. At this point only outdoor seating was allowed which was perfect because it wasn't humid or muggy and we were able to see the sunset slightly since the seating are East to the building. but you can't deny the beautiful view. The staff here was incredibly kind and the food was wonderful, good meal for an after hike adventures. Their steak was sooo fresh and juicy cannot miss out on that if you enjoy good meat and my sister loved their lamb chops. read more
