Chose this place for a date night as neither of us had been here before. The location is great and there is a parking lot. The restaurant is a chill vibe and the tables are spaced out nicely. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was amazing. We had a tough time deciding because there were so many options we wanted to try. We decided on the BBQ Pork Belly dumplings (10/10 and I don't really like pork), Beef short rib and goat cheese wontons (47/10 unbelievably delicious), Pan-Seared Crab & Shrimp Cakes (7/10), chicken Kung pao (8/10), and we also got the cucumbers. From the moment I walked in, the customer service was top‑notch. I met a friend for dinner, and it was a first visit for both of us. The décor and ambiance were inviting and chic, and we were not disappointed. We started with the brussel sprouts appetizer. I was intrigued by the description since I'd never had dried apricot in brussel sprouts before, and I was pleasantly surprised. The apricots and pickled onion worked beautifully together. For my entrée, I ordered the beef bulgogi. OMG--the flavors were out of this world. It was seasoned to perfection, and the portion was generous enough that I had leftovers, which is always a win. My only minor complaint is that the cocktails were on the weaker side, but definitely not a deal breaker. The location is in an assuming shopping center, but don't let the facade fool you. The patio was pleasant with the first of the spring weather. We started dinner with 2 enjoyable cocktails. Both of the appetizer specials were hits - pork larb and Szechuan potatoes. I ordered takeout Bulgogi noodles from this place. When I went to retrieve the order, I was pleasantly surprised to see the nicely decorated, clean, dimly lit interior. Kinda wished I ate inside. They gave a very generous portion size of tasty noodles and bulgogi. The dish was good, but it was a little bit too sweet for my liking. The beef was tender, and not too chewy. I also wish it came with more veggies or light toppings on top since the sauce can get a bit overwhelming at times. Very last minute decision to go to Jujube after a long day at the office, and we live on the other side of town. Better to enjoy some delicious bites and a cocktail than sit in traffic on 40! While I feel it's slightly difficult approach this location, everything after that was amazing. Early dinner on a Monday, got right in on the simple yet lovely outdoor patio. Host was kind, service was great. We started with the short rib goat cheese wontons and they were just right. Salty, sweet, creamy, slight spice to the sauce. Five total in an order. Very generous for a starter. I went all in and got the lemongrass hanger steak. My husband got the beef bulgogi. Both were so yummy! The hanger steak was simple. Perfectly cooked, sea salt, lemon grass (naturally) with a side of peanut sauce and the most amazing cucumber salad I've ever had. As a lover of peanut sauce, I still could've done without it. The steak was great alone. The beer bulgogi was smokey, delicious. We finished with the chocolate mousse with cookie crumbles. It was good, but I honestly enjoyed the main dishes much more. More and more, service is key for me. They were celebrating their 18th anniversary (I think) at jujube this day and I can see why. Just a great, genuine overall delicious experience. I got a chance to try out Jujube in Chapel Hill. Jujube is a sister restaurant of Juju in Durham and serves up all mouth watering Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine. Here is what we got: BBQ Pork Belly Dumplings: These were my favorite. The pork belly was full of flavor. Beef Short Rib & Goat Cheese Wontons : The wontons were nice and crispy. The goat cheese definitely complemented the beef short rib. Brussel Sprouts: You can't go wrong with Brussel Sprouts :) Thai Larb Salad: This was my first time trying Larb. The taste is definitely different and unique. I liked it. Whole Red Snapper: I'm a sucker for whole fish and always order it whenever I see it on a menu. Wasabi Margarita: This was definitely a unique cocktail. You could taste the wasabi along with the tequila. I would order it again. I got a chance to go to Jujube recently for a friend's birthday. We ordered probably way too many appetizers and cocktails (very easy to do). They had lots of options for my husband, who is vegan, so that made ordering super easy. I got the Jujube bolognese, which was delicious, and he ordered the Kung Pao tofu. My only complaint is that I wish they had a few more entrees to choose from on the menu, but everything was really delicious and the staff was able to keep up with our large group constantly ordering more drinks at the table. The ambience is very relaxed and even though the space itself isn't huge, they had no trouble accommodating our group with a reservation. It is a little pricey, (especially when you order every appetizer on the menu) but the food was great so I would definitely come here again. read more

Jujube is kind of a tough restaurant for me to rate. My wife and I enjoyed our experience here. However, all things considered - food, service, ambiance, price point, location, etc. - Jujube is Yelp three stars ("OK") in my book. For Chapel Hill, I think Jujube is a good/fine restaurant and is worth a visit if you're in the area. When it comes to the Triangle though, I'm not sure it's a restaurant I'd go out of my way for. I think my wife liked this place more than me. We've both been to sister restaurant Juju in Durham and liked Juju better, especially me: https://bit.ly/3Cf31CO. Jujube has stood the test of time, having opened in this location in 2005 and persevering through both the Great Recession and the COVID-19 pandemic. During our Friday night visit, this place was almost at full capacity and the staff was running at 100% utilization most of the night. This place appears to be popular and there's demand for this kind of food - modern Asian fusion - in Chapel Hill. I booked our reservations using OpenTable. Book your restaurant reservations with OpenTable and earn free points which can be redeemed for various rewards such as hotel and restaurant discounts. I've used my OpenTable points to get Amazon gift cards. The restaurant is nicely decorated. It's got a bit of an upscale feel to it. At night, the spaces were dimly lit. There's a covered and enclosed patio with ceiling fans for warm weather and heat lamps for cold weather. The patio has a small fire pit too. This is a good restaurant to take a date. We were seated in a back section of the dining room along a banquette which I dubbed "couples row." The tables happened to be separated into a bunch of two-tops, so it was one couple after another. It's not uncommon to see an "assembly line" of couples like this at sit-down restaurants, especially on Valentine's Day. Jujube's food menu was fairly streamlined, featuring dumplings ($8 per order), small plates ($8-13 each), "for the table" shareable plates (a bit bigger, $12-15 each), and large plates (entrees, $19-28 each). The drink menu was extensive; full bar with wine, sake, and liquor. The one dish we weren't huge fans of was the Crispy Chicken. It looked great, but it tasted like a slightly-modified version of any run-of-the-mill Chinese takeout joint's orange chicken, just fancied-up for a finer-dining restaurant. We actually ordered this one because the pictures of it looked good on Yelp. We liked the Mushroom & Cabbage Dumplings. Jujube's dumplings are served four to an order. The dumplings were shaped like large wontons and they were steamed. We were impressed with the dumpling skin texture. It was very appetizing, and the dumplings overall were just delicious. The 5-Spice Duck Confit Spring Rolls were yummy as well. They were crispy and savory; very flavorful. The chef suggested the Lemongrass-Grilled Hanger Steak cooked medium rare and that's how I prefer my steaks. The steak came out medium, but it was fine. I thought the quality of the meat was good and the peanut sauce pairing was... unique. My wife loved the Pan-Seared Filet of Salmon. Consistency-wise, she thought it was cooked perfectly. I'd say the texture was about an eight out of 10. Good, but not great, which is my general opinion about the food here. The desserts were good. I think we both preferred the Chocolate Mousse over the Peanut Butter Pot de Creme, but both were satisfying. Smooth, sweet, creamy, wispy, and decent quality, but also relatively simple. As for the cocktails, I thought the Whiskey Sour and The Dreamer were good and refreshing, especially the latter. I didn't like the Bee Sting, which tasted like artificial, overly sweet, lemon candy to me. My wife liked it enough to finish it. Service by Eric A was excellent. Eric was outstanding; very nice. The kitchen also worked very fast, and it seemed like there was never any downtime. The food was good, we shared three plates between two people. I thought it was good but not great. My daughter and I started by sharing three small plates. Small is not completely accurate, all of them were quite robust and we ended up with a lot of food. The best of the three was the wontons with short rib and cheese. Five large wontons, fried well and the meat was tasty. The kale salad was mixed. I personally liked the candied pistachios (they tasted like pistachio ice cream), others at our table not as much. It was a little greasy for a salad and also almost as if they couldn't decide between traditional kale and crispy kale, kind of the worst of both worlds. I liked the cauliflower starter but it was quite sweet. For a main, I had the hangar steak with cucumber salad. Again, a nice sized portion and the steak was cooked exactly like I asked (medium rare), though I found the peanut sauce a little tasteless. Overall a good meal with caveats. read more

The menu is small and presented as pan-Asian, although I would call it Asian-inspired at best. Most of the dishes are pretty basic, with some Asian "flare". For example a hanger steak served with a cold peanut sauce. The sauces in general are out of place with the main dish. The sweet potato fritters were very sweet already, and came with...a sweet brown sauce. I ended up eating the sweet potatoes with a mustard sauce that came with a different appetizer. I also tried the mint yuzu non alcoholic mojito. It tasted like a lime seltzer, with a "dash" of yuzu and mint. Yuzu and mint are both strong flavors, but both were absent in the "mint yuzu" drink. At $8, it was disappointing I don't fully understand what the restaurant is trying to achieve with their menu? It's been pretty full the 2 times I've gone, so clearly some people like it. Fantastic experience; I'm surprised it took us this long to come here. It's a cozy restaurant, very comfortable atmosphere. We made a reservation, but the walk-ins who came in before us was seated promptly. Service was relaxed, but professional. Never felt hurried, and yet never ignored. This is as close to perfect as I've experienced in the Triangle. We spaced out our order, but once ordered the food and drinks were always promptly served. The food ranged from very good to excellent. Favorites were the short-rib wontons and the beef bulgogi--I'd make the drive from Cary again for either one of these. We had a vegetarian with us, and she really enjoyed the Gado Gado. The wine list was better than I expected, and their cocktails were interesting. If I had to come up with one complaint, it's that their parking is limited. But overall, Jujube exceeded my expectations. read more

As expected for an Asian fusion restaurant, food was kind of strange and disappointing. The BBQ pork belly dumplings were okay, but overpriced at $10 for just 4 dumplings. There wasn't much of a BBQ flavor and the meat is a little dry. The calamari was a bit oily and made me nauseous after eating too much. I liked trying the trio of dipping sauces. Both the beef bulgogi and duck fried rice were big letdowns. The duck meat came in large dry chunks and the rice was smothered in sriracha mayo, which didn't pair well with duck as they're both fatty flavors. It needed something brighter to balance out. The bulgogi noodles didn't taste like bulgogi, just drenched in sauce. I will say the portions were quite large, almost enough for 2 meals. But I wouldn't recommend this place to a friend. Service: We ordered ahead online, and our food was ready by the time we arrived at the restaurant. Food: We ordered the Steamed BBQ Pork Belly Dumplings, Beef Short Rib & Goat Cheese Wontons, Vietnamese Salad Rolls, Pan-Fried Crab and Shrimp Cakes, Beef Bulgogi, Bolognese, Spicy Oyster Mushroom Curry Soup, and the Jujube Red Sangria. Our favorite dish was the Bolognese, which was delicious and tasted fresh even after being in a to-go container. We also enjoyed the pork belly dumplings and beef short rib and goat cheese wontons, as the fillings were well-balanced. The Bulgogi was on the salty side, but we enjoyed it nonetheless. The decor is mostly black, including the table cloths. The menu is a great mix of old favorites and some dishes we'd never heard of (a plus in our book). The menu is very veggie friendly, with a few veggie and vegan entrees. They'll also switch out meat for tofu on most dishes. All three dishes were fresh, well prepared, and seasoned just right. The beer list is small but adequate, while the wine list is comprehensive. The cocktails are good and of generous-enough portions. The food portion sizes are big enough that we all took home a little something for lunch the next day. We'll definitely be back. read more

I've never felt rushed there. They're good about food allergies which is great. My wife has celiac and has always done well eating there.
