Spencer rolls into DC yesterday, and guess what... the itch was BACK. No debate--we knew exactly where to go. Only difference, it was a beautiful day, so we sat on the outside patio, which was perfect... roomy, open, and breezy. This time, Shae hooked us up with a feast: 5 lbs of crawfish (Hot N Juicy, medium heat), 2 lbs of Spicy head-on shrimp, 2 lbs of spicy headless shrimp, 2 lbs of extra spicy crab legs... and plenty of COLD beers to keep things flowing. She was fantastic... super attentive without hovering... and made sure we were set the whole time. Bottom line: another awesome visit, lots of laughs, and that crawfish itch? DEFINITELY scratched... again!

Also, every single sauce is sweet. Even the garlic butter. It was like garlic, butter, then a cup of sugar? Why sugar in a seafood boil? Really bad. Our waiter suggested the "least sweet sauce" and it was still super sweet. Weird. Plus my stomach was jumping about twelve hours after eating this (Dungeness crab legs, shrimp, spicy calamari).

I did enjoy the French/Spanish music in the background. The staff were kind and fast with things. The portion was quite large, which I wasn't expecting. The poisson was quite good with the sauce provided. I found the veggies that came with the rice seasoned quite nicely too. We did also try the turkey creole, which was a tad bit dry, but still good. Plantains and rice were standard in my opinion. We REALLY enjoyed their rum cake though as dessert. Heavier on the alcohol but it made it so good! Definitely a nice experience here.

Now on to the food. So I was satisfied with the menu but not amazed. I lived in the Mississippi Gulf for 5 years and I was really expecting a New Orleans vibe. It wasn't as much as I expected and therefore ended up ordering a salad with Salmon which was good. The score is really a 3.5 but I rounded up.

One of the highlights was the bottomless brunch, which made for a fun and enjoyable experience. The food was full of flavor and tasted fresh. Every dish was well-seasoned that keeps you coming back for more. The portions were satisfying, and everything arrived hot and beautifully presented. What stood out the most was the hospitality. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. The only downside to our visit was the live band performing inside the restaurant. While the music added to the atmosphere, it was so loud that we couldn't comfortably hear the people at our table or have a conversation. Because of the noise level, we ultimately chose to move to the outdoor seating, where we were able to enjoy our meal and each other's company much more comfortably.

Our food came out hot, the drinks were great, and we genuinely felt well taken care of throughout the entire experience. There was a little manager-to-employee "team meeting" happening in the background that briefly tried to steal the spotlight , but Mone kept the good vibes going with great service and plenty of laughs. Overall, this was a 10/10 experience. Great food, great drinks, great service, and an even better atmosphere. We definitely plan on coming back. Anniversary celebration: officially a success!

I'm still fairly new to the area and had been wanting to try this location for a while, but it's usually been too busy during my previous visits. I stopped by yesterday for happy hour and ordered a seafood boil, and it ended up being one of the worst I've had. Something about it just seemed off, and the flavor was noticeably different from other locations I've visited. I'm not sure what went wrong, but it was disappointing. The only redeeming part of my visit were the happy hour drinks, which honestly made the meal a bit easier to get through. I was really hoping for a better experience and hope this was just an off day.

Because I've not found real Louisiana boudin anywhere else in the DC area, and because of the family's hospitality, I will give them 4 stars. The Jambalaya Shack is a catering business that was present at this past weekend's Breaux Vineyards Cajun Festival. They're from southern Louisiana, and seem to get invited to cater many of their events. They had jambalaya, corn maque choux, and boudin links. Because I was waiting on live boiled crawfish from another vendor, I decided to just share a link of boudin for $5. Their young boy said after I ordered, "Sure! You have to ring the boudin bell!" So I did, while his mother laughed and wrapped up a link for me. She made sure I knew how to eat it (I did), and I asked her if it was spicy or not (she said not at all...probably due to the DC clientele...but that they were good and that they shipped them straight from Louisiana). They also had an assortment of mild Cajun seasonings and hot sauces. It was not the best boudin I've ever had (that one goes to the Boudin King in Louisiana), but it was slightly better than the boudin I can get at the grocery store in Texas (but bigger). The Jambalaya Shack's also had good amounts of little liver pieces in it. I wish I had had hotter seasonings (cayenne chile powder would have been awesome) to spice it up with... I wish I had also tried their namesake jambalaya, but it was the chicken/sausage variety and other than the boudin, I was in the mood for seafood. I do think I was the only person I saw at the festival that tried the boudin (or probably knew what it was). Speaking of seafood, the other caterer's boiled crawfish was bland, and Jambalaya Shack was nice enough to let us have some of their seasonings. They saved the day.

For example when I asked for straws he wrapped the naked straws in napkins before handing it to each of us. He was so attentive and kind and helpful - I love it. They treated our group to the beignets - fresh out of the fryer - 10/10!!!! Highly recommend. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich (w no bacon) with the duck fat french fries - amazing.
