We we're driving down the highway, and it was lunchtime. Being unfamiliar with the area (We're from AK) i had to rely on Yelp Reviews to guide my choice of lunch venue. 5 stars, with 188 reviews was good enough to turn the car round and drive back 3 or 4 miles. The ambiance of the place is sheer delight. Warm and cosy - this space is lined with antiques and bric a brac, but not in a cluttered way - it's a welcoming way. There's an area at the back devoted to the sale of jarred goods like local honey and homemade jam, marinara sauces, and pasta noodles, along with some candy, even some crockery for sale. The menu is extensive, and tempting. Hard to know what to pick, but i knew what i was having, even when i saw it online, whilst driving down the Highway. Curried Smoked Chicken Sandwich had my name on it. As they offered a half sandwich and soup option, and there was a butternut squash and apple soup, i chose that and my husband got the Caribbean. To say i was thrilled was an understatement. In England (I'm English btw) we would call this Coronation Chicken Sandwich, I've always loved it, despite not really knowing why it was called that. It's not readily available in AK, but there is one cafe that has it. It is VASTLY underrated as a sandwich in my opinion. I had mine on Rye, with the literal freshest and crispest salad leaf I've eaten lately (barring the ons freshly picked from own garden of course) the central spine of the leaf still had that satisfying crunch, that helps you date that salad leaf to the hour it was cut. This tasted like a freshly harvested salad leaf to me. And the coronation chicken was so delicious. Creamy, liberally jeweled with chicken, and nicely tasting of curry. The rye bread was so fresh it could barely stand up to the onslaught of delicious filling liberally heaped upon it's triangular surface, however i managed, i managed very well indeed. And the Butternut Squash and Apple soup was delightful, savoury yet sweet at the same time. It's not a creamy soup, but it's a blended soup so there are no lumps. It was well seasoned and flavourful, redolent of Fall Flavours, and heartily warming. ENough to line my ribs with for sure. Husband seemed very happy with his Caribbean. He tried my soup, and was hinting for a taste of my half-sandwich. No way! You are not Sir! If i came back down here, and was in the Chehalis area, i would for sure get this Smoked Curried Chicken sandwich again, it's something i will not stop thinking about when i go back to AK. Absolutely wonderful place, and there seemed a lot of locals coming in too, who knew what they wanted without a lengthy consultation of the menu. I hope i get to return here! read more

Hands down the best place to eat in Centralia and Chehalis. Marie is the absolute best, she always knows how to take care of us and has the sunniest, most positive and upbeat personality. She makes it a whole experience! Couldn't recommend more! read more

Met all expectations for a nice lunch. Greeted with smile at the counter and ordered the Muffuletta sandwich with a cup of special of the day soup - green chili with pork - and had a slice of carrot cake. The sandwich was tasty with the olive tapenade added, the soup was excellent with a slight bit of heat, and the carrot cake was moist and just right. Interesting and small town gift shop ambience. We stopped by for lunch on our way back to Portland because we saw this on Diners, Drive Inns, and Dives. Excellent! We loved our panini's; meatloaf and the turkey artichoke. Definitely worth the stop! read more

Absolutely EVERYTHING went well! From the never disappointing and always creative, not to mention beautiful food itself to the atmosphere, efficiency of the friendly service to the charming environment!!! I am blessed to be able to go in this fun restaurant, at least once a week. I do have my favorites, but I try to sample something new, often. Still 5 stars! I thought I should do a little update on a new fun menu item! Chocolate Vegan layer cake!!! Yes, you heard me!!! The cake itself is moist and has a very rich Chocolate flavor! The frosting is smooth and creamy, taste of rich chocolate! They also have a nice vegan chocolate chip cookie! There are daily and many vegan/vegetarian menu items to choose from. ... and for others a huge menu to choose from, the lunch specials are a real treat! I stopped in for a bit and enjoyed the turkey sandwich - the turkey. I love the rustic white bread! I had to try a slice of the vegan chocolate cake, yum! Oh, and maybe a cup of the Organic Hot Coca! I was there for a while waiting for my car to be fixed across the street. Yes, I do come here for lunch at each oil change.... LOL! When I left, Joy and her staff were putting up the Christmas decorations! I am sure I will need to come back soon to enjoy lunch with the Holiday Spirit, maybe some peppermint in my cocoa! Always a treat to dine here! I love the GF Carrot cake, so moist and flavorful! My girlfriends and I love to come here for lunch when we have a day out or birthday! There are many menu options including Vegan! The Daily Specials are wonderful too! read more

We found a great stop over on the way to Seattle. We enjoyed the variety in the menu and the accessibility from I-5.

Pretty much an ideal stop when making the Seattle-Portland journey, Once Upon a Thyme serves up great sandwiches with a friendly staff. Muffaletta. It's not easy to find this elusive sandwich in the West, but OUaT's got it. I sort of have an unusual rule where if a place serves a Monte Christo or a Muffaletta, I have to order it. I didn't regret it. They also have a number of other more traditional sandwiches...Reubens, French Dip, Tuna Melts, Turkey Cranberry, and their ilk. All prepared quite nicely, and everything my party ordered was received favorably. We weren't as big a fan of their potato leak soup on our visit, but to each their own. Owner Joy Templeton stopped by our table to check in on us. She seemed very sincere, genuine and happy, of course, that all of our entrees were well liked. I think this restaurant has built up its reputation on its commitment to quality ingredients, responsible sourcing, and lately being featured on Guy Fieri's show. Look, if you're cruising down the I5 in the area, looking for a bite on your phone, you've found your place. Search is over. read more

After Guy Fieri stopped by for a visit, we had to try this place. Recently, on a cold, rainy day, we had lunch here. The decor is a take on the past, but also cozy and comfortable. The sandwich menu has lots of variety and the Turkey Cranberry sandwich I ordered was very good. It reminded me of the kind of sandwich you'd make the day after Thanksgiving, without the stuffing. My spouse had the muffuletta with a bowl of squash soup and all I heard about during lunch was how good the soup was. He even mentioned it on the drive home. This is a rare and unexpected restaurant for a small town. We'll be back for sure. Oh yes, the oatmeal raisin cookie we shared was beyond good! read more

Great sandwiches with fresh ingredients and in house baked bread. 100% ran by women. It's a Triple D Restaurant, we saw it on TV and decided to stop by and we're not sorry! We went back soon after with my sister-in-law for the meatloaf panini , mufeletta and curried chicken salad sandwich. They have a great selection of sandwiches, homemade soups and more. read more

I loved this place! I just finished 9 holes of golf with a friend and I wasn't excited about the course cafe. I was unsure about this place being in a commercial area, but the reviews were great. This place is an absolute hidden GEM. Do yourself a favor, skip all the corporate garbage across the free way. The food here is phenomenal and you can tell it's the spot all the locals go. Guy Fierri needs to come eat here and pull all the traffic away from the corporate restaurants. My wife & I shared the Ham & Fig as well as the Bountiful beef. Both very awesome flavor combinations that for a little restaurant in a small town scream FOODIE. I'm floored. So glad we stopped here. read more

Food and desserts are amazing! I've eaten here several times with my mom and it's been excellent every time. Coffee is great too.

Our favorite spot to visit whilst on our way to Portland! Nice people and friendly atmosphere along with excellent food!!

Super sandwiches! Turkey cranberry is my favorite but there are plenty others as good!

Stopped here for lunch after a business meeting down the road. Everything was perfect, food, ambiance and people. Everything seems to be made from scratch and the BBQ is smoked right out back. Portions were spot on and the two ladies I interacted with were extremely friendly and helpful. I highly recommend for a friendly, delicious lunch. read more

I never skip an opportunity to eat here, what they lack in business hours, the more than make up for it in amazing food.

Found this place on Yelp. Had to try it for the high ratings. It did not disappoint. The prices are very reasonable. The portions are perfect. The variety of menu is spot on. I love the Vegan options (more than one). They have GF breads and desserts. Vegan desserts. Very inclusive for ant diet. The good was amazing. Even my burger loving teenager ate every bite of his club sandwich. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. read more

A short way off highway 5, a great way to break up the drive between Seattle and Portland or Mt saint Helens. I had tuna melt on a whole wheat English muffin. It was delicious with some added spices. And the tomato basil soup was a perfect accompaniment. The restaurant must have been something else long ago but I didn't find out what. About the same cost as Panera but more interesting read more

What a quaint and tasty restaurant! If you're traveling up or down 5, like us, you will be in for a treat stopping here. Firstly, the restaurant is adorably decorated, especially around the holidays. Secondly, the menu offers so much in the way of sandwiches. They even have field roast for vegetarians and I could substitute that in my Ruben for a great lunch. Thirdly, the food itself was yummy and I couldn't have asked for more. read more

We came here with high expectations after seeing the Turkey Artichoke panini on DDD with Guy Fieri. The building outside is beautiful and very inviting. The inside atmosphere is homey and keeps you wanting to stay and see/read everything. The little store has very good prices compared to souvenir tourist stores. We were driving and purposefully planned out eating here for our much awaited brunch. We came 1/2 hour after opening at 10:30 am. There was only one other customer who was already served. Our service was good. My husband and I got our food quickly and it looked like a grilled cheese sandwich with some Turkey. I opened up the sandwich and it did not have any basil dressing whatsoever. The artichoke tapenade was almost nonexistent, which I didn't bother pointing out. It had around one teaspoon or less for the entire sandwich, if even that. The tomato was pale green and looked like only one slice for the whole sandwich. I mentioned to the waitress that it had no basil dressing and she seemed clueless that it's supposed to be there, even though I pointed out the menu description. She said she'd go ask the chef and then came back with a tiny portion of it on the side, which we had to share for two whole sandwiches. We barely got a good taste of it to go around. Paying $35 for 2 sandwiches not made according to the menu description and nothing else is pretty disappointing! The large group of ladies that came after us had beautiful, thick slices of red tomatoes and Turkey piled high on their sandwiches. I'll give this place another chance and try something else on the menu, since the Turkey was the best I've eaten anywhere! Perhaps a newly hired person was making ours & had no training how to make a proper sandwich and was never taught quality control. Unless, this is their way of cutting down costs, but I'll go with my first guess. It pains me to write negative reviews and I almost never do. I hope the owner sees this comment, as I'm certain her expectations were not met either for her lovely place. read more

They do a really nice job of serving tasty, lunch fare comprised of sandwiches, soups, salads & dessert . The environment is well lit, spacious enough & with parking! Food's provided in a timely manner even when crowded which it will be , especially lunchtime. You can tell they have experience under their belt because everyone in our party of 7 enjoyed our selections without a lengthy wait or messed up orders. It tasted home made & was flavorful because they actually season their food! So many burger joints & pubs just slap food on plates without any seasoning with premade, prepackaged, frozen food , that's then fried up as tasteless grub. I wish there was a place like this in Lacey! read more

Friendly and warm atmosphere - delicious food. Big sandwich selection. So nice to find a place that cooks everything from scratch. Even though it is not a full-serve restaurant (you order at the counter), the service was good; a couple different staff checked on our table a few times. Staff was wonderfully pleasant and happy. Love the little gift shop inside - bought some pasta sauce and candy. Will definitely go again when in the area. Menu is on the blackboard which was a little hard for my eyes to read. Would prefer a printed menu also. read more
