They moved our two story beyond full house to our new 3 story still full house, and it only took them a few hours back time. I was amazed. Never once did anyone grumble about steps or moving anything I asked. They were wonderful guys, wonderful attitudes. We recently moved from Kirkland, WA to Greenwich, CT. My experience with this moving company was far from satisfactory. While the staff and movers were pleasant, my overall experience was marred by several issues. Firstly, the movers did not handle my stuff with the care I expected. My dresser and nightstand ended up chipped and scratched during the move, a computer monitor and kitchen glassware were also smashed up, which was disappointing. The most significant problem, however, was the disappearance of valuable items like my expensive men's bike and a pressure washer. When I reached out to the company and filed a claim, I was told that because I had signed the paperwork upon delivery, they had no liability for the missing items. This was extremely frustrating. If you are considering hiring this moving service, my advice to you would be to act as your own supervisor throughout the entire process. Create and maintain a meticulous list of all items packaged and ensure you check off each item as it is being delivered. This extra step may seem unnecessary, but my experience has taught me that it is essential when dealing with this company. Moving a household is already a significant undertaking, especially if you have children to manage during the process. The added stress of ensuring every item is accounted for during the move should not be the customer's responsibility alone. It's deeply disappointing that this company could not take responsibility for their mistakes and left me with missing items and no recourse for recovery. You are indeed correct; I opted for the 60 cents per pound coverage for the move. However, it is essential to note that this decision was influenced by advice I received from your staff. They suggested that I should not invest in the more expensive coverage since I would be pre-packing some items myself. In hindsight, I am relieved that I did not opt for the higher coverage because the items I packed personally arrived at their destination without issue. It is the packing done by your crew that is a cause for concern, as evidenced by the photos. I would be more than willing to accept some level of damage to my belongings if I felt that due care and consideration were given during the move. I have relocated across the country more than ten times in the past 20 years, and while some damage and minor losses are expected during a move, they have never occurred to this extent. For instance, the dresser and nightstand were not even wrapped to prevent scratches, and some boxes appeared as though they had been carelessly thrown off the truck. While I have experienced missing items in the past, they typically involved replaceable components, such as slats from a bed frame (as a side note, even though I signed for the paperwork for that company as well they ended up replacing the bed without issue). In this instance, the only missing items are intact possessions that could readily be resold. Regarding the paperwork, you are accurate that I signed it at the end of the moving day. However, I am left to question whether I had a viable alternative. At the end of the day, for the first time that day, I was handed numerous pages of documentation that required my signature, and this occurred when the moving crew, consisting of six or seven individuals, was eager to conclude their work due to several hours of driving ahead of them, made even more challenging by adverse weather conditions. They were tired understandably, they wanted to get going home, I was what was standing in their way. Throughout the day, the contents of my four-bedroom home were brought into my new residence and distributed throughout various rooms. I was under the impression that one of your crew members was responsible for the inventory as items were brought in. Given the decentralized placement of my belongings and the absence of a copy of the inventory until the end of the day, conducting a comprehensive inventory of each item as they were scattered throughout the house would have been a laborious and intricate process. Having the crew wait around for an hour or two while I went through hundreds of items, while also trying to manage my 4 and 2 year old, didn't seem like a feasible option. Based on other reviews I have read since my move it doesn't seem like this is a unique situation to your company. In the very least this should prompt a policy change on your end of how items are inventoried once delivered. The client shouldn't have to micromanage the moving crew. This isn't an issue of money but an issue of respect for your customers, their things, and their time. We moved from one state to another. They came to pack up our house. I pointed out which furniture and boxes were to be loaded. They were fast but didn't listen. When our furniture and household items arrived a week later, there was water damage on my bedroom set and clothing, as if our things had sat in the rain, a broken book shelf,an antique bowl and I am still missing items like bike helmets, a bag of hand weights. We paid over $6000 and had $10000 worth of damage. So glad I packed my China and glasses- not one dish was broken. read more

Let me start with the good: Bill Adams is a good estimator and guy...unfortunately he doesn't do the the actual move. After a good experience moving WITHIN CT, we used Joyce to move to SC...big mistake. Do not use this firm to move out of any State. They destroyed 47 of our items, and the damage occurred when they moved from 1 moving truck ( original one) to another larger truck in Bristol, CT, and crammed our stuff in with another client. Our 6 Month experience attempting to get insurance settlement was horrific...and we ended up with about a $4300 claim with was far below the $10k worth of damage and replacement costs....absolute nickel and dime us to death. This review is overdue! We moved two months ago on 8/18/23, and it was such a good experience I'm sorry it took me this long to write a review. My boyfriend's new company selected Joyce as our movers for a corporate relocation from San Diego to Dana Point, CA. If you're not familiar, these cities are about an hour away from each other without traffic. So, we were fortunate not to be moving across the country buuut I was still pretty stressed since moving is never easy and I'm used to vetting companies before choosing them. Wow, what a relief we had a pleasant experience from start to finish with the Joyce Redlands team: Chris Mora, Ashtin Loya, and Luis Mariano. These gentlemen knew each other well, and it showed in their work. Chris's team listened to my concerns, answered all questions, and bent over backwards to make sure we felt comfortable every step of the way. At one point I gave Chris a difficult request... we had a new Tempur-Pedic mattress and the salesman told me when we bought it to keep the mattress horizontal when we move and never stand it upright. I asked Chris if this was possible, and he was surprised (I guess this isn't something people ask for lol) but said he'd work his magic. I was so impressed when he showed me later how his team rearranged everything on the truck to make room for the mattress to lay flat on the floor for the entire move. It wasn't practical but he was willing to do it for me. Big thank you to Chris, Ashtin, and Luis for going the extra mile. They helped us to unpack some of our things in Dana Point and removed as many boxes as they could before they left. If you are moving, I would recommend using a different company. My family and I used this service because it was offered in a moving package for the company that hired my father. We moved a very far distance, from Michigan to Arkansas. We had one semi-truck full of boxes. The delivery was on time, but other than that, I am very disappointed in the service. First of all, over half of the boxes were mislabeled or unlabeled. The team packing our house lacked communication. To be fair, they had only four days to pack all of our belongings. However, the same rooms had multiple names depending on the packer. Not only were the naming conventions inconsistent, but the space provided on the box specifically for labeling was completely unused. Secondly, my family took the initiative to pack some of our more valuable items ourselves and placed them in totes. We did the same with some bathroom items, informing the packers that we had already packed everything we did not need into totes for them to take. We still cannot find the bathroom tote over three months later. It seems the movers chose to unpack some of our totes, and placed the items in boxes at random. These totes were also in very good condition before the move, organized, and labeled. Most of our totes are now broken due to lack of care (I'm guessing) on the unpacker's behalf. Boxed glass and other fragile items were placed under heavy equipment/boxes as well. Most boxes were crushed and deformed. The movers also managed to break an entire leg off of a dining chair made of solid wood. The unpackers only had two days to do the unpacking (simply taking the boxes off of the semi and placing them where instructed). My father was the only person present during the unpacking of the semi, meanwhile my mother and I were still in Michigan. She worked for the same company as my father, and had to finish her last week of work after the house closing. I cannot blame the company for these circumstances. However, my dad instructed the unpackers to place boxes for the garage in the garage. Similar instructions were given for the other categories of items. They could not even follow these simple instructions. Most of the tools and equipment my father used were placed in front of/on top of household items, barrracading us from accessing them. We are guessing the garage still has household items in it, pushed to the back behind/under heavier items once again. Today, my mother and I moved and reorganized nearly all of our boxes. We did not have time to complete this before the 60 day limit on claims for broken/missing items. This company only allows one claim to be made for all items. I understand this makes the process easier and more streamlined. However, for big moves like this, I think the timeline should be more flexible. We were focused on trying to find basic household items so we could eat and cook for ourselves. There are also other items that needed to be completed with the state, etc. that we had to prioritize over going through our stuff. Again, I cannot hold the company responsible for these outside circumstances. It is extremely frustrating having time to finally go through our belongings after making the small claim that we could previously. Valuable items have been destroyed because of laziness and lack of care. I still don't feel like this is my home because items I cherished are still missing. Clothes, shoes, sheets, dishware, glassware, furniture, comforters, all piled behind items that anyone with common sense would know did not need to be accessed immediately. In fact, the unpackers were INSTRUCTED to place boxes in piles according to the labels. Even the boxes that were correctly labeled are not even remotely organized. Combined with the sets of items that were strewn about randomly in unlabeled or mislabeled boxes, I am beginning to wish we rented a U-haul and did this ourselves. We entrusted our belongings to Joyce Movers for just under a year. When they stored our furniture a leg was broken on our dining room set. When we received our furniture our oriental rug had been eaten by a mouse which was still in the carpet. We had missing furniture and boxes but were told we signed for everything upon delivery. I've moved interstate with Joyce Van Lines 4 times and wouldn't consider calling anyone else. From my first contact with John Adams, to coordinate the move dates and contract, to finalizing the last minute contract changes with Kathleen Delano and then to coordinating with the driver Scott Donaldson and his crew, the whole process was smooth and seamless. I couldn't have sked for a better team to handle all of the little details that moving an entire house entails. They had to coordinate my move from Florida to a temporary residence and storage and then 3 weeks later moved all of my belongings to my permanent residence plus coordinated it all a week early due to closing date changes. Nothing rattled this team. Moving is stressful but they made sure that I knew that they could handle it all and did so with efficiency and kept me informed. Scott had to last minute arrange a shuttle within the first 2 hours of the move out. Nothing rattles him. Joyce Van Lines made promises they did not keep, and worse, THEY STOLE FROM ME! Sales agent John Adams assured me repeatedly that great care would be taken with my belongings, and that the van driver would personally supervise loading, would personally inventory and record everything loaded, would drive and deliver my possessions, and would be personally responsible for everything. It was all a lie. Here's what really happened: A small van arrived with two men who barely spoke English. One of them was the driver. He was unable to write down any of the contents, was able only to write the numbers on the stickers affixed to my boxes and little else. I speak minimal Spanish and was able to ascertain from this fellow and another fellow at my eventual destination that my possessions went, not sent directly to the intended destination, nor were driven by the "driver," nor even stayed in the truck onto which they were loaded. Instead, the load was driven 200 miles south, was to be unloaded into a warehouse, reloaded onto a different truck with other loads, transferred to a warehouse in Connecticut, reloaded onto a different truck, and delivered by two different guys, one of which told me he was 16 years old and the other of which -- again -- did not speak English. several of my boxes had been opened and resealed with a different kind of tape than I had used, and some of my boxes were missing. Some contents had been removed. Some boxes were crushed and damaged. My calls to the company coordinator to find out when my belongings would be delivered went unanswered for a week, and then the coordinator admitted she did not know for a time where they were nor when they would be delivered. I called that coordinator June Myerson at Joyce Van Lines to report all of this, and June offered basically lip service saying that every effort would be made to locate my possessions. Of course, no efforts were made, no steps were taken, no evidence of any kind has been provided that the company did not steal my possessions. It is heartbreaking to know that someone else has possession of items that are precious to me. Sadly, Joyce Van Lines took thousands of dollars from me, made empty and deceptive promises, and operated in a criminal manner. I am preparing an insurance claim, having paid for 100% replacement of my possessions, and will not be surprised if Joyce Van Lines does not pay a dime for the damage and THEFT they either perpetrated or allowed. read more

We had an extremely complicated move, downsizing considerably, putting much in storage with Joyce as well as moving out of 2 homes on the property. Our possessions were handled flawlessly and treated with utmost care. Everything was packed to perfection and the crew was always extremely professional and courteous. AVOID THIS COMPANY!! This company shammed us in a BIG way! We hired Joyce to move our 4,400 SF home in June 2019. We received a quote that was approximately $10,000 and reflected having Joyce pack us up as well as putting some of our property in storage. Jim P., our Joyce contact, said that we could lower the price if we packed some of our stuff on our own. My wife and I, along with a friend, spent two days packing. In fact, the boxes we packed consumed 2/3rds of our two car garage. Although we required an entire 4-man crew for a full-day less - our final bill was actually about $2,000 more! When we asked them to address it, they went silent on us. We also purchased their upgraded insurance and when we attempted to make a claim for a damaged TV, they ignored 3 separate calls. To this day, they still have our belongings in storage, their insurance guy has never returned out calls, and we are waiting on American Express to remedy our dispute for roughly $1500 (5 months later)! HORRIBLE! We have moved several times and this time we went with Joyce. Bad Mistake. The driver was always on his cell phone and sitting in the truck during packing. Meanwhile, guys who could not speak English were being worked to the bone of a ten hour day with no breaks. As a result, they became surly and disrespectful with our belongings as they packed. Then after already packing we find out that the delivery is not when promised. No one at Joyce will return your phone calls whether it is to keep you informed of delivery or schedule. Then they certainly won't help after for damage claims. We have over 1,000 in damages and then add the additional hotel bill because of their scheduling. We have had more broken and missing belongings than any of our previous moves. Then with delivery. The driver was so unprepared of not having a credit card when he was supposed to so he was delayed five hours into the work day. Then the driver allows the guys unloading to smoke weed on the job. Yes it is allowed in this state but not on the job. I could go on but save yourself of additional stress and money by not dealing with Joyce van lines. On one of the reviews below, they have comments from Joyce van lines saying he will address the damage to property but they have not helped us at all and we have missing property and yes the boxes are almost empty. Really displeased. I hate writing bad reviews but we moved from VA to NY five months ago, as a part of a corporate relo, and the damage from this moving company just keeps being discovered. They were careless with my upright piano- bent the legs and hardware, scratched the top of our brand new bistro table (and tried to color it back in with brown marker) and failed to properly wrap several glass antiques which all broke (but whoever wrapped my plastic Tupperware used an entire tree worth of paper for one plastic lid.) They also broke two of our garden statues and adirondak chairs. We made a claim, which was a horrendously difficult process on their end, only to have 10 cents on the dollar reimbursed. But many of these objects, especially my broken glass heirlooms, can never be replaced. Most recently, our furnace started to leak and we moved the Joyce van line boxes to reveal that they had kicked and cracked the condensation pump and hid their damaged behind boxes. That damage just cost us $375 for a new pump- the furnace was less than five years old. Really, I do not recommend this moving company. Will attempt to attach pictures. read more

A team of three completely packed up our 700 sq ft home in just under 5 hours and then a team of two unpacked the truck in our new home in around the same time. We used Joyce Van Lines for a recent move. They seemed to do an OK job until we had to make an insurance claim on a damaged computer. My computer would not work after the move and after a $500 repair bill Joyce Van lines refused to cover the cost of the repair. We had paid extra for zero deductible cover but they refused to pay for the repair stating that there was now evidence that it was damaged during the move! The computer didn't work after the move so how much evidence do you need? We are only on our current home for a year or so and will not be using these people for our return home. read more

Horrible service describes our experience. Movers on the delivery end were rude and dishonest. Many pieces came unassembled, with missing parts. A display case was place upside down and left that way. Lamps parts in 3 or 4 different boxes without lables on boxes. I witnessed a glass window of a grandfather clock shatter and later mover lied about breakage. Boxes labled bedroom were left in kitchen and vice versa. First of all, this is an honest review by an actual consumer who used Joyce Van Lines for a cross-country move. I have given them five stars because quite frankly they are a fantastic company which provides EXCEPTIONAL customer service. We used them for a move from LA to DC in 2010. They were able to accommodate us on very short notice. The move went flawlessly - we had NO damage; NO lost possessions; and everything arrived on time, as scheduled. The team was great and extremely polite. I wanted to use them again for a move we are about to do from DC to FL. I will this time being using another moving company for this move to respect my new company's relocation process; however, I just wanted to make a point about the outstanding customer service from Joyce. Bill Adams sat on the phone with me and answered all the questions I had about using Joyce again; however, he also answered questions I had about the other companies and RECOMMENDED one for me. He told me to go with what my new company would like as they have contracts, and to use him next time. He didn't push me and gave me ADVICE on the moving company he recommended. Who does that? That is top notch customer service from a company that just wants you to have a good experience - regardless if they are not the ones moving you. I HIGHLY recommend this company. And will use them for sure in the future if I am doing an individual move. They adhered extremely close to their original estimate, which pleased me to no end, and their team of four men worked quickly, safely, and with care to move our belongings. Everyone I worked with through our move this year was amazing! It was a great experience beginning to end. Scheduling had been tricky due to the selling process of our home but the folks at Joyce made sure I was accommodated as needed. I normally give positive feedback. I've held back too long. With this company, we have had too many terrible things happen. I was told to file a police report for my missing jewelry that was not even where the workers could touch it. The agent from JVL told me that was standard procedure. I simply wanted to question the guys right there and then. However, just minutes after they left, I discovered it was missing. I did give benefit of a doubt. So I searched all over before making the report. I didn't want to go that direction. After 24 hours of bad luck, I filed the report. I called JVL and the only thing I've been told is to also place it on our claim sheet with missing or damaged items. As if taking the $550 necklace wasn't enough. Upon emptying boxes after delivery, Someone managed to steel 6 pairs of brand new earrings that were in a gift box. They also stole a brand new box of Victoria secret perfume that was in its box. Neatly sliced the plastic top and took the bottle, leaving the empty box with our other items. They've damaged several pieces of furniture and other items. The military should be more aware of contractors they use. We entrusted these people with our goods, and this was not ever a thought that crossed our minds. We didn't think we needed to be at their every step. We did check on them, but it was if they had questions on our items, what to pack and not pack, how to label the box or which room to include items with. Very very disappointed. I've spoken with at least 4 different employees from JVL. They all seemed to say claim it and sorry this happened. I hope we do get what is rightfully owed back. The necklace was a Mother's Day gift. We used Joyce to move from NYC to Lake Tahoe and were highly unhappy with how are things were treated and the condition in which they arrived. When hiring Joyce to move our items we purchased full replacement insurance with a $0 deductible. The movers that arrived at our home were very nice and respectful and promised that they would be the ones to take our stuff from NYC to Lake Tahoe. You have to imagine our surprise when NONE of the original team were on the truck that arrived at our destination. We are not unreasonable, as we anticipated some slight damage during a cross-country move, however, our damage was beyond unacceptable. A mattress had been dragged on pavement so much that holes had been warn in it. A sofa-sleeper had been dragged on its back corners ripping the fabric and exposing metal. We had multiple pieces of art paced improperly causing damage to their frames. We had chunks of wood taken out of a bookshelf and a nightstand. Upon arrival of our items Joyce sent an appraiser to our home to survey the damage, at which time his comment was that he was "appalled that they would treat our items in such a manner." He valued our damage at ~$15,000 and has sent an offer that blatantly left damaged items off their list and highly undervalued the replacement values. Currently Joyce has offered to settle at $5,328.15 claiming that items have "depreciated" since I purchased them which clearly does not take into account the definition or "replacement". I would highly advise you to think carefully before hiring this company to move your items. The treatment in which we received was disrespectful, unprofessional and unacceptable. If this were my company I would be highly embarrassed with how this has played out. I will be back to comment on this after the settlement is completed. read more

Positives - Execution and Timeliness Negatives - All the sneaky, hidden fees. This trend seems to be across the industry but there is still no excuse of giving an estimate and understanding that these would be all the charges, then sending a final bill that includes a bunch of unexpected fees, such long carry, packing, etc. Also the invoices make no sense, as the company uses different providers this and the estimate. Finally, customer service is slow to respond. The refund was sent almost a month later after receiving my shipment. Oh and a desk was broken. There have to be better options out there. read more

Very efficient service that is considerate of hourly rates. Credit was applied to our account very quickly. We couldn't believe the crew was able to get some of our furniture up/down stairs as they did. We were just as happy w/Joyce as we were a few years ago during a previous move. If you are ok with a company who looses two large heirloom pieces, a claims person who says, "I am not going to tell you that we will find your stuff" , and an overall attitude of WE DON'T CARE (except when they are charging your credit card) then they are the movers for you. Move out was perfect--organized, professional and very kind, during a very stressful time. Move in was completely different story--lead guy wasn't there and the others bumbled along. Didn't know how to re-assemble furniture they had dis-assembled. Left one piece "assembled" with a pile of "spare" parts. Lost screws to another piece. Broke one piece. I emailed after delivery and was promised someone would come and re-assemble the 2 pieces and that I would be compensated for 3rd piece. Never heard from them again. read more

I used this company to move me out of my house, put things in storage for a year, and subsequently move everything to my new home. They lost numerous things, including irreplaceable artwork and furniture, as well as many boxes. Many items that they packed arrived broken as well. They have an archaic system of numbering boxes with sticky labels that fall off and get lost. They made little effort to try to locate my things, but were very quick to charge my credit card in advance of the move. After many calls to them about trying to find my things, they just told me to take the matter up with their insurance company. It is inconceivable that with dozens of items missing, they were unable to locate a single thing. My advice...DO NOT USE Joyce Movers. Pay a bit more for a professional who will take good care of your possessions. read more

I have never posted a review before and this one is overdue. Joyce van lines moved us from Naples, Florida to ocala,fl in November 2020. The driver and helpers were very nice and the price was good. We took out insurance through joyce for the move. When everything was unloaded, boxes in garage and furniture in rooms, we had cash for the move and a substantial tip for workers. At that time the driver Robert asked me to sign off on all the pages for the move. I asked in front of several witnesses about the insurance and was told we had 30 days to submit a claim. We noticed that an item was missing, and a good sized hole was in an entry wall, lots of scrapes on painted walls and a broken drawer. I called the local agent in fort Meyers several times with no help. Finally they gave me an email for corporate and I was able to get a claim form. I submitted the item number for missing item, and pictures of damage to walls. Corporate responded that a claim had to be made before I signed the papers so that the driver could leave. Who checks everything from a full house move before the truck leaves? Absolutely ridiculous!! We wasted the money for insurance. We would not use Joyce again and every chance I get I tell others about our bad experience and terrible customer service read more

I've moved a lot since I was in the Navy but this was the first time I could choose my moving vendor. Joyce had the best price and best customer service. They worked the delivery schedule around my house closing so there were no additional storage costs! I was very pleased with my move and give them my endorsement. read more

We used Joyce Van Lines to move part of our house from CT to Boston and also to store some items at its Ct storage facility. I would rate them as a above average-- and overall a little on the high side expense wise.. The furniture was moved to Boston and all went well except that the movers got lost and we had to wait extra hours for their arrival. Their cost compared to other movers was at the high end and the business wanted all the payments made by credit card before the move took place. The furniture that was moved into storage appeared to be well wrapped and carefully handled and we will only know the final results of the storage component od using Joyce when we retrieve the furniture in several years. At that point, I will review the storage component again on this site. As for the storage component billing, we have gotten billed by mail monthly. At the same time that we mailed in the monthly storage fee, we noticed that the company also deducted the monthly fee via our credit card. If you use this company, be aware that you should receive an adequate explanation about how you will be billed and limit the company's ability to use your credit card after the move without a prior agreement on the exact terms of credit card use, read more
