I tried it out as there were new owners. I loved shrimp fried rice so I ordered that. All it was, was white colored with soy sauce and not even colored all the way, did not have any flavor at all. Cost $$. Was very disappointed. It was a take out, and once home for the money ( I use to work in a Chinese restaurant) I could have made it cheaper, with flavor. I was lazy that night and did not want to cook. After I refried and added flavor it was ok. My chickens had my leftover and they loved it. Have not been back since even though it is right by me. I go to another Chinese restaurant in Poulsbo. Lady ( the owner ) was kind of pushy about ordering more food. I only wanted the rice. The food here has been consistently good for the past couple of years.. My favorites are the Singapore noodles, ma pou tofu, prawns in lobster sauce, mu shu pork, black pepper chicken. Their wor wonton soup is good too. They don't serve the more authentic Chinese dishes that you would find in Vancouver BC or Seattle's Chinatown, but Joy Luck serves good tasting Chinese American food. read more

I've been eating at the Joy Luck Restaurant for many years through several changes of hands of owners. These guys have had it for a couple of years and they're doing a good job. It's not a fancy restaurant by any means. Actually would probably be something on the par of a hole in the wall to some degree. But, the menu is fairly extensive in terms of anyone could find something on the menu to like. Most of the time the food is good. Not great but not bad. For a town this size it will do. When it is good it's very good. What makes it special is the fact that they have an individual there who takes pride in his restaurant. His customer service skills are amazing. He continues to deliver the curbside food making it very convenient for people like me. And he always answers my questions and works to get my orders to my specifications. When you're hungry, just got off the boat "ferry", and it is after 8pm, your choices in Kingston are limited. This is how I found "Joy Luck". Asian cuisine is my Go to, not Mickey-D's. I ordered 2 items wings & Singapore noodles. First the wings, this place in Kingston rocks after the wings are fried, this little joint tosses them in a wok with caramelized onion, shallot, a few minced herbs, tsin tsin chilies SO GOOD! So extraordinary compared to other places. Now the noodles they were above average. Spiced better than most, the shrimp were not over cooked the dish was not oily, the mei fun (thin rice noodles) were properly cooked. So check this local gem out. This was a "to go" order. read more

I hardly ever get Chinese take out, but decided I needed to find something fast to get for dinner before trying to catch a ferry back to Edmonds. For some reason I have never noticed this place before even though I am out here frequently, but I imagine it's been there awhile. It was super easy to order via the phone, and pick up was fast and easy. I could have done with some more soy sauce packets and I am thankful I remembered to ask for utensils. My meal was perfect after an 11 mile hike earlier in the day. It was hot, fresh and most importantly delicious. After being stuck in the house and having to eat my own food for so long I was starting to worry that I had lost my taste for restaurant food, but this brought it all back for me. I absolutely loved my Kung Pao Tofu. My partner liked whatever he got too, but I can't recall what it was. It's been a week or two since I visited and I can not stop thinking about this place. I drove by once and had a hard time not stopping again for it so soon after. I've also been making plans to meet friends here for meals in the future. I don't live nearby so I tried to get this same dish at a local Chinese place and was very disappointed. There's no good reason to return there - food is meh at best, prices are as high as competitor in Poulsbo (which is a solid step above if you ask me) and staples like wonton soup, egg rolls and fried rice are a complete miss. I guess the only reason to stop there (and that's probably how they survive) is if you are looking for something to eat on the ferry. I'll grant you that Kingston doesn't have that many good options, but you are better off going elsewhere or going hungry. read more

Thebomb.com. Absolutely phenomenal and everything I look for in a Mandarin style restaurant. I felt like a kid again having my first bite of something something wasn't meatloaf or spaghetti. And even though I've had thousands of noodle dishes over the years this was what I've been looking for the whole time. We got the House Chow Mein and the Singapore Noods. The Chow Mein has beef, chicken, and shrimp. No stupid vegetables to ruin my entire day. Maybe some cabbage or something but nothing intrusive. The Singapore Noods were flavorful with massive chunks of chicken. Mildly spicy and stuffed with capsicum. No one's perfect. I don't live anywhere near Kingston but will make trips here to eat. read more

The food at Joy Luck is mostly good. Sometimes the quality seems off and for sure they use MSG. You need to request no MSG and the taste is absolutely different. The service is friendly and usually takes 30 minutes after the order is placed. They have a habit of forgetting the hoisin sauce with orders of Mu Shu. The Hot and Sour soup is excellent. If I could I would rate them 3.5 with a "easily can improve" with a little more attention to the details. read more

The staff are very nice however the food is not. I ordered 25 minutes prior to arrival. I had to wait 20 extra mi utes as mom had issues using card processed. Then when I got meal the egg flower soup had egg shell in it! The fried rice was more steamed than fried. Originally, we were planning to try fish-n-chip in one of the lounge bar (we did a little food search at home before hand), but when we walk pass by this little shopping plaza, we were surprised to see that there was a Chinese restaurant in the corner. We then decided to check it out. It was about 2-ish pm on a Sunday, so understandably that the place is empty. We were immediately greet by this young Asian. The dinning area feels old (aged), but relatively clean. However, depends on the time of the day, there were several seats that have sunshine that blind your eyes (yes, that's right... the BIG BIG BIG sunshine blind your eyes in the winter of Puget sound area, I kid you not!) The waiter was very nice and offer us to switch to a different seats so that it won't be a bother to me. When we checked the menu, we immediately realized that this is one of those "Americanized Chinese Food" menu, which I have been craving for for a while. Now, the food time~~~~~ we ordered hot & sour soup (this is my must order when trying a new Chinese restaurant), Orange Beef, and black bean Chicken. There is not much to say about hot&sour soup. Its a very typical taste of hot&sour soup that you can get pretty much everywhere around here. However, one thing I love is that its not overly salty. Orange Beef..... OMG... I would give this a 10 stars!!! Each beef chuck was properly bread and deep fried. The keys is that in more places that I had tried, deep fried was not properly done, so that texture / tenderness of the meat is soft, sticky, and weird. Joy Luck really MASTERED this dish!! its nicely done on the bread, and taste crunchy, sauce is not overly sweet, just perfect! Their orange beef totally blow up my mind! This is the one I will love to keep going back for~~! and the black bean chicken, it seems to be the human-styled taste, that my gf said its a bit on the sweet side, but we both like it. The only nit pick I have is my gf ordered lunch special combo that came with a cup of soup. As I mentioned before, I always order hot and sour soup on every new Chinese restaurant that I tried. However, they won't allow me to order a cup of hot & sour soup. I can only place a full order from the menu, which is too big for myself. That's the only nit-pick complaint that I have. As far as Bang for the buck goes. It is near by the Kingston Ferry Terminal along 104. So unless you are local, or have planned a trip to the island, or else you will have to pay for the Ferry to get to it, and becoming an additional cost for it (we did the walk-on, so round trip is a lot cheaper). However, when ignore the cost of transportation, the price is aligned with the Chinese restaurant everywhere around the area. So I'd say its fair. Our overall experience is very pleasant. Its not a fancy or a traditional Chinese food. However, if you are looking for an "Americanized-Chinese Food" to try, this one I highly recommend. read more

Got to-go here a few weeks ago. Order was ready faster than expected, and hot and fresh cooked. Quite enjoyed their lunch specials, which offer generous portions. We tried the specials with orange chicken (classic) and black bean fish--tasty! Plenty of protein. Came with soup and a side such as chow mein. A bit heavy: but in part because I didn't want to stop eating & because it's just not light fare. Really hit the spot and what a ridiculously fair price! A lot of stars down because of the service and the place. It's a really dirty restaurant kind of in the middle of a random shopping market. When we ordered, the waitress seemed to understand what we wanted but we got two extra of one dish when we only wanted one. We asked for her to take it back but she said she would make the extra half off since the kitchen already made it. We didn't want it! She left it on our table anyways and stopped cooking one of our other orders. That was just a disaster... The food was okay. Nothing too amazing. We got the beef chow fun and Shanghai noodles - very strong curry flavor. Honey walnut prawns were average, just like where you'd normally get them. The lunch sweet and sour chicken was awful, I think if the sauce was improved that would have made the dish better. I wouldn't come here again. Been to plenty better Chinese restaurants. read more

We have been looking for a good Chinese Restaurant since we moved here about 4 years ago. This is the place. We had our favorite mix of foods and all of it was outstanding. I'm pretty spoiled, because the last place I lived had many excellent restaurants with low prices. I tried Joy Luck for the first time earlier this week and wasn't particularly impressed. Potstickers were mediocre; I make them better at home using the frozen ones from the grocery store. Salt and pepper prawns were the worst I've ever had; the breading was too thick and had a gritty mouthfeel that was very unpleasant. The BBQ pork chow mein was tasty, but the pork was dry. The prawns with snow peas was more like snow peas with prawns; it tasted great, but didn't have enough prawns in it. The veggie fried rice was good, but that's not exactly rocket science. If I'm in the area I may try this place again and order different dishes, but it won't be a destination by any means. The Chinese restaurant near Walmart in Poulsbo (Taste Wei) is much better! read more

So where do I start. Slow service, limited menu. Table next to us ordered the eat there when food arrived it was bagged up. I asked for extra spicy and absolutely no crushed pepper, I had to ask for a bowl of the pepper sauce. Gentlemen did a call in order arrived when we did and still didn't get his food to go, we where there for 30 minutes. However the restaurant was clean. We stop in at Joy Luck fairly often and order their family meals. Let me just say - this good is AWESOME. We have meals for two more days just in our leftovers. It is worth it! The food is well prepared, huge portions, and they don't go light on the pricier ingredients. The pork friend rice is arguably some of the best fried rice I have ever eaten. While there aren't a lot of people in the restaurant, we see to-go orders picked up regularly. Don't let previous issues dissuade you from trying out this treasure in Kingston! read more

We have ordered several times and had hoped we could discover a great chinese dish that we could rate much better, and hoped it would be better, but they just don't deliver authentic, tasty Chinese food. the food here was first of all completely overpriced, after low tip and ordering my 1 meal and bev, it was $45, i ordered cashew chicken (the simplest meal) and it was completely butchered, the meat was soggy and flavorless and the sauce was thick and chunky. the service was okay, until i saw employees AND customers sharing from a shared food bowl, scooping some into their own bowl, eating half, and then pouring their leftovers back into the shared bowl for everyone else to eat.. health code violation 101 read more
