I've been eating at the Joy Luck Restaurant for many years through several changes of hands of owners. These guys have had it for a couple of years and they're doing a good job. It's not a fancy restaurant by any means. Actually would probably be something on the par of a hole in the wall to some degree. But, the menu is fairly extensive in terms of anyone could find something on the menu to like. Most of the time the food is good. Not great but not bad. For a town this size it will do. When it is good it's very good. What makes it special is the fact that they have an individual there who takes pride in his restaurant. His customer service skills are amazing. He continues to deliver the curbside food making it very convenient for people like me. And he always answers my questions and works to get my orders to my specifications. I like their wonton soup, Singapore rice noodles, and the Mu Shu dishes.

Thebomb.com. Absolutely phenomenal and everything I look for in a Mandarin style restaurant. I felt like a kid again having my first bite of something something wasn't meatloaf or spaghetti. And even though I've had thousands of noodle dishes over the years this was what I've been looking for the whole time. We got the House Chow Mein and the Singapore Noods. The Chow Mein has beef, chicken, and shrimp. No stupid vegetables to ruin my entire day. Maybe some cabbage or something but nothing intrusive. The Singapore Noods were flavorful with massive chunks of chicken. Mildly spicy and stuffed with capsicum. No one's perfect. I don't live anywhere near Kingston but will make trips here to eat.

Phenomenal food and service! We are excited to return!…read more Comfortable, cozy, and inviting restaurant suitable for families and large groups. Service is friendly, kind, quick, and welcoming. We ordered the spring rolls for an appetizer which had the perfect crunch. For our main entrees we shared the duck, shrimp chow mein, and the dry-fried string beans. Everything was amazing. The best chow mein I've ever had to be honest. The dry-fried string beans were the star of the show as they were so flavorful and delicious! Such an amazing experience. Free and easy parking which matters to me and wonderful service! Also nearby the bus lines. The food was soooo good. I can't wait to try more of the menu. Definitely a nice date spot or family meal. I recommend and will be returning!

Since it was our first time, we ordered a lot, knowing we would have leftovers. Had the fried pork buns, the boiled beef and onion dumplings, the sesame balls, shumai steamed, orange chicken, chow mein, green beans and oil sticks. My oh my, what a feast and we brought home as much as we ate! I would say the winners were the beef and onion dumplings and the green beans (OMG I could have just ordered these and made a meal of them!)-- but other stand outs were the shumai, and the orange chicken. I think you can skip the oil sticks, (kind of bread like with out a lot of flavor), and would go with the hunan noodles instead of the chow main. The fried pork buns were doughy with out very much meat inside. All in all, a great place. Will definitely go back! It doesn't look as good as it is from the outside, large posters of food pretty much cover all the windows. Will dream about those green beans! LOL

Classic windowless building showing its age. Nice, clean interior. Plentiful seating. Pleasant, attentive, and patient waitperson. Clearly this was also a spot frequented by regulars. We all brought ice waters, hot tea upon request, and started with the soup of the day. We focused on featured lunch combos listed on the menu, which were definitely old school Chinese American. The three selected were: *Sweet & Sour Pork w/Pork Fried Rice *Sweet & Sour Pork, Broccoli Beef w/Pork Fried Rice *Beef Chow Mein, Almond Chicken w/Pork Fried Rice These lunch combos were generous and yes, we all had to ask for takeout containers at the end of our meal. Great to see Golden Star remain business after many decades!

I enjoy their Lunch Special with two choices on you plate alond with excellent fried rice. I enjoyed everything I tried and the oolong tea that comes with your meal makes ot even better. And what Chinese meal would be complete without a fortune cookie. They give you one of those, too. I've sat at both the comfortable booths and the tables.
