I love their food! It is so good and their service is amazing! I think that it is one of my favorite bakeries in anchorage!

WOW! I've been meaning to check out this panaderia for a while, but just never got around to it (Shame on me). Their hours are kind of weird due to the fact that they open at noon, but close at four so your window of opportunity to patron them is kind of small. I was in the area for a doctor appointment for my son, and decided that I was going to make a point to head over there after the appointment. It is a very small take and go bakery with a set menu of items, but they do offer food specials on Saturdays, and also have some stuff for sale that is not listed on their standard menu. I got there right when they opened at noon, and there were already a few other people waiting to place orders. It seems like you can also call to pre-order, and they will have your stuff ready for pick up. Service was quick and friendly from the woman working the corner, and the owner was in the kitchen cooking. I ordered an order of lumpia (comes with 8), empanadas, pan de ube, and pan de coco. Their stuff is baked fresh so you will have to wait a bit for your food to be ready. I think I waited about 15 minutes, which is not bad at all. When they started cooking people's orders the bakery smelled heavenly. The prices for these items cannot be beat. 8 lumpia for $5!? You get quality items for cheap at Josie's! The food was absolutely delicious! The lumpia were packed with filling, and the outside was light and crispy. I think it was some of the best lumpia that I've had in the Anchorage or Valley. The empanadas were different than the traditional South American ones that I have eaten. The dough was crispy, buttery, and just a tad bit sweet, but the filling was savory. They are small empanadas, but packed with meat, potatoes and peas. Very filling considering how small the pastry was. The pan was also so good. Light, airy and sweet with tons of filling. The ube mixed with the sweet bread was so divine. Each item was made fresh, and made with care. I do not think you can order a bad thing from this bakery. I will make a point to go there on a Saturday so I can try their non bakery item Filipino dishes. After I finished all my treats from Josie's I was very upset because I should have ordered more! If you're looking for some Filipino bakery items then you need to give Josie's Bakery a try. I don't think you will go wrong with any of their items!

I reaaaally wish Josie's Bakery wasn't on the East side or I'd make it a point to go there regularly. The empanadas at this place ARE OFF THE CHAIN. Unfortunately, and perhaps, fortunately Josie's is completely out of my normal shopping track and literally nothing I shop is near it. I've never had empanadas like the ones she makes. I've had them from lots of countries and I can make my own, but these have a pocket that I struggle to describe.... it's not the usual pie crust. It's slightly sweet? But the filling is savory with meat, peas, potato and smidge of raisin. These are perfect. She makes them juuuuust small enough so that you'll obsess and crave a second too. Sigh. So, so good. I almost forgot! ... the other stuff is great too, truly. I asked for help from the staff in making a selection since I was uninitiated. They were so nice! I got some great stuff to bring home. Definitely the best Filipino baked goods I've ever purchased and the places was Super clean.

Wonderful spot, shame on me for just now visiting! This is a bakery. The setup is very much "bake and take". There's not really anywhere to eat your food, there is a small counter though. The small counter contains: FREE COFFEE. That's right, waiting for something that's made-to-order? Go ahead and buy yourself a baked treat and drink some free coffee! I got the tocino bowl, an empanada, and an ube w/ coconut bun. The Ube/coconut bun was FRESH from the oven, it was piping hot, and delicious. The empanada and tocino bowl were also very good. The prices here are also very low, especially given how fresh and high-quality the food is. Definitely give them a shot!

Great Filipino bakery with minimal choices but if you do go please get the following Siopao: soft fluffy and meat tasted great Empanadas: fry to order and very filing as well flavors hit right. Only 4 stars because I'm used to having egg in Siopao.

Hours of Operation as of 2/1/2023
    Papa E.

Their hours of operation is not up to date ! Wasted my travel time yesterday (they're open according to Google map and Yelp) , just to find out they're only open 2x a week. Management needs to update their hours of operation that way people will not waste their gas and time driving all the way to this store.

    Chicken siopao

Fresh, hot and delicious! I have been trying to find chicken Siopao or "chicken buns" here in Anchorage for a while! So glad I found this little gem. They were great! I also got the Ube buns!

    Robert K.

Well I am glad that I stopped in finally to try this place. Well there goes your diet if you step foot into this place as we just wanted to order everything. Everything is very well priced and very well made. My favorite thing was the Ube bread which was still warm and very freshly made. Once I ate one I had to grab another because they are that good and addicting. The siopao and empanadas were also amazing and very hot made to order. The coconut tasting flan was the icing on the top. Definitely will be coming back for more ube bread and to try more items.

    Paula S.

If you haven't been here, what're you waiting for? I stumbled on this bakery randomly and decided to give it a try. I had the longanisa bowl and the Ube roll, ube coconut roll, and cheese roll. The bowl was super delicious. The sausages were super juicy and rice was cooked perfectly. The rolls are amazing and fresh. Super soft. The cheese one was my favorite. It had my eyes rolling to the back of my head because it was so good. Definitely recommend this bakery!

Had a dozen Pan De Coco!

My favorite Filipino bakery here in town! We love grabbing the Ube and Pan de Coco bread. What I especially love about Josie's bakery is that you can place a special order and take them to parties/potlucks which we've done over 2 times now. The bread is always so fresh and decently sized. You have a variety to choose from: Ube, Pan de Coco, Ube with coconut, pandesal, or cheese bread!

    One of my favorites, empanadas!
    Ryan G.

If you're craving some Filipino baked goods, look no further! Josie is known for her baked specialties and has catered to many others in this town. Now she offers it up to the public to come and go whenever you please. Their food is baked fresh everyday, goes quickly but they bake them fresh just as quick! If you're craving a quick meal they've also got awesome bowls as well. Longonisa a sweet pork sausage and a Tocino bowl sweet pork sliced perfectly that comes with rice, egg roll and sliced tomato to balance the flavors and texture. All in all Josies Balery has just about anything to satisfy your cravings!

This was just ok. It looked better than it tasted, unless you're a fan of dill. Mainly got this sandwich to try their bread but the bread was an afterthought. - maple rhubarb muffin: hard pass. Can't taste the rhubarb and barely any maple. The bottom also was more burnt than anything. It seems they may have over mixed their batter, muffin didn't have a tender crumb.

It's like a croissant baked in a waffle form, but a bit denser than a regular croissant. What really made it special was the Ube cream -- a light, buttery frosting that wasn't too sweet. Easily a 10/10 for me. I also ordered the Ube Cruffin, which had that same croissant-like texture in a muffin shape. The inside had a light cream filling, and the top was covered with the same Ube cream. It was good, but not quite as amazing as the Croffle -- 7/10. The Ham Banh Mi was tasty and filling (6/10), and the Boba Milk Tea was decent too (6/10). Oh and I got to taste their smoked salmon chowder that my friend ordered. Very good flavor, body, and richness (8/10). Everything I had was good but nothing that was as memorable as the Ube Croffle, but it wasn't cheap -- I spent a total $32 for a sandwich, drink and 2 pastries. Then again, prices in Alaska tend to be higher in general. Overall, even though I've only been once, I'd definitely come back for that Ube Croffle -- it was the real highlight!
