Always order same item. Last week did the same received a small salsa that was on the less full side. I did not say anything. Today when placed order spoke to guy who I believe is the mgr. Asked him to fill the small salsa because of last week. He did not explain anything. I went ahead ordered an extra small salsa. I received the order and one of the salsas was almost half full. Chips not in usual brown bag now sandwich bag much smaller portion. I called spoke to same guy he was not nice he told me they are only allowed to serve half way. My parents and I went here for lunch. The place was clean and tidy. The staff were very nice. The food came out fresh and hot. It was very delicious and you get a good portion of food. I really enjoyed the nachos. You should definitely try this place out. Prices are reasonable as well. read more

For all the new folks in the area. Going to any other Stores Mexican restaurant in Dayton or Liberty is like taking cash out of pocket and striking a match to it. Jose is the best around I've lived here for 26 years, I've tried them all. Most have little flavor and what flavor there is just isn't good, I'm truly sorry other Mexican restaurants but it's true. Over and over true I have given all many chances over the years, but food and in some horrible wait staff. The food was pretty good and the drinks were enjoyable too. However, one thing that really bothered me was the gratuity -- a $10 charge automatically added to the bill. Decor is very nice and relaxed - making one feel like you are in Mexico. Jose's always has the best Tex-Mex food and their margaritas are awesome. Great food, great chef and great bartender, along with friendly, caring employees. I was nervous about this restaurant as the roof is in need of repair, but I was pleasantly surprised. We were seated immediately in the bar area. Our drinks were delivered quickly with chips and salsa. The chips were crisp and fresh. The salsa had a little bite to it. I ordered the San Antonio dinner and my husband ordered the taco plate. Our food came out within 5-6 minutes. I was glad the enchiladas had chunks of chicken vs shredded chicken. The cheese sauce was standard for Texas. (Yellow vs white sauce in other states). My husband's tacos had good flavor with crisp shells. Everything was pretty good. My only complaints would be lack of sauces on table as I love hot sauce. Also, the waiter didn't check back on us!! I've eaten here maybe 3 times. The menu is way too big so the last time I asked our waiter for a recommendation. He pointed at the seafood enchiladas so I ordered it. They were watery and icy in the middle. Another time I ordered soup and it still had chicken bones in it. I'm all for homemade but ya gotta pick through a little better than that. Jose's is the best Mexican food in Dayton. I think there are only two Mexican restaurants in Dayton, so I understand that doesn't necessarily mean much. For me though, it's a go-to place when my coworkersfind ourselves in the area at lunch time. It's well priced, and there prompt with the drink refills. As for the food, they are a little confused when I ask for my taco salad with no meat or cheese, but they've never messed up on my order. My boss loves the burrito supreme. I don't know how he eats it all... it's huge. Some of my coworkers also get the quesadillas every time, so they must be good too. read more

I'm giving them 4 stars because my husband really likes this place. I'm not a big fan of Mexican food. I tend to judge them by their tamales, beans and rice. Here the tamales are horrible but the beans and rice are good. Their fajitas are really delicious! My husband usually gets fajitas or the fajita burrito. I've tried the shrimp nachos and they were okay. They give good service and check on you often keeping your drinks filled. I love the décor, it's just tacky enough to be cute. Prices are higher than most mom and pop Mexican restaurants but they're lower than Papasitos. It's a family run business in which you can tell. We sat down to eat for the first time and let me tell you it was horrible. Service was beyond slow and it seemed like the waiters waited on you when they felt like it. Coming back to Texas after living in San Diego California my taste for Mexican food has changed very much. I understand the difference between authentic Mexican cuisine and Tex-Mex. I love both. Jose's is a good place to have a standard Tex-Mex meal. Nothing on the menu stands out any more than the rest of whats listed. So far every time I go here I enjoy the food. The service is pretty good for the most part. A little slow when they are busy but that's understandable. As a Dayton resident I will continue to come here for meals from time to time. It's not horrible, but it's not great either. Starting out. Chips were cold and had no salt. Salsa was cold, but it is decent. I agree that the queso (not caso) is pretty bland. Main meal. I had the mixed fajitas. The chicken was outstanding. The beef had the texture of being over marinated. It's that thing where it's starting to fall apart, but not from being tender. Rice was pretty good, but the carrots could have been omitted. I had the charro beans instead of refried beans. This came with an up-charge not relayed in advance, but was noticed on the bill. No real biggie as it was only .25. The beans were okay, but could have used more seasoning. The tortillas were good, and they sent 4 to the table. This is a huge plus! The pico was decent. The guacamole was completely flavourless. I'm pretty sure it was just mashed avocado. Service started out great. The gentlemen even came back to check on us once after the food was served. But that was it. Never made it near our table again. We sat and sat waiting for him to come back when we finished to get to go boxes and the cheque. Nope. Not sure if they were busy doing side work, forgot about us, or were playing grab ass. It was getting late. I was a resident in Dayton, TX for 3 years. I probably averaged eating at Jose's 1-2 times weekly. I am a BIG fan of this restaurant. I always found their staff pleasant, kind, and helpful. Joses is better than most chain restaurants. Their beef or chicken Jalisco is usually tender, spicy, and plentiful. Their salsa is made from scratch. It never tastes identical to the last time you ate it. Everything we've tried has been good. The only thing they could do to make it better would be homemade tortillas. My wife and I had a wonderful dinner at Jose's Mexican Restaurant. it was our first visit. The service was excellent and the staff were friendly. When we arrived, we were quickly seated. The hostess accommodated our request, leading is to a booth by the window in one of the many dining areas. Our young waiter was prompt, polite, and attentive. Chips and salsa were brought to our table and two very large tumblers of ice water (with lime, as requested). The corn tortilla chips were warm and crispy, freshly fried. The red salsa had a good flavor, with a persistent kick of spicy heat. My wife asked for green salsa, also. It was smooth and creamy, and had a very fresh flavor. It too had a lingering, spicy-hot kick. It was so perfectly seasoned and delicious. When we ordered, our waiter helped me with my special request for Tacos al Pastor, "estillo Mexicano" (or Mexican style). This consists of "al pastor" beef with fresh cilantro, chopped white onion, and nacho-sliced jalapeños on flour tortillas ("harinas de trigo"). I also drizzle these with fresh lime juice just before eating. Wonderful! My wife ordered the stuffed avocado combo. Our meal was prepared quickly. The flavor of the food was excellent. My wife said that the stuffed avocado had way too much queso for her tastes -- it was both inside and poured over the avocado. She said that, otherwise, the flavor was good. After dinner, I enjoyed a Mexican beer, Negro Modelo. It was brought to the table in an ice cold bottle with a frosted mug. Very flavorful and refreshing. For the two of us, the price of the entire meal was very reasonable. We were happy to leave a generous tip, well deserved! Only two things would have made our visit better: When we entered the restaurant, there was a strong smell of a pine-based disinfectant cleaner. My wife would have enjoyed the stuffed-avocado much more if it came with less queso -- or with queso on the side. It was still a wonderful meal, good service, and a great price. I would say customer service lacks at this location. Being from the city and now coming to the country I can tell they are not too sure how to properly run a restaurant where customer service should always be #1. I expect more from these kind of places.
