We have had the pleasure of working with Maxwell and Green Light on two separate projects…read more In 2023 we did a full bathroom remodel with Green Light Construction, and we loved working with Maxwell and the whole team. Maxwell works with excellent tile installers and cabinet makers, and we are thrilled with the end result. Our bathroom not only looks fantastic, but Maxwell was very thorough in making sure all the quirks that had gone into prior renovations of our 1909 home were fixed, and we feel so much better about the quality of our home than we did prior to construction. Maxwell was consistently excellent at communication, and was calm and kind with all of our questions and minor changes that came up on our end during the process. Everything came in on-budget and on-time, with no surprises. We wish we had more renovation needs, because we would love to work with Greenlight again. In July 2025, we had Maxwell and his team back to build an exterior deck/set of stairs, move a dryer vent, and build a wisteria trellis. Maxwell was very responsive, as usual, and was able to fit us into his schedule. The crew cleaned up thoroughly everday and minimized any disruption to our yard. Communication was excellent throughout the whole process, and everything was completed just as we wanted it, at a fair price.

We can't say enough about how great Maxwell is. Our house was built in 1914, and we wanted our new…read morebathroom to fit with the rest of the house while also feeling modern and comfortable. Maxwell understood that from day 1 and guided us through the process every step of the way, letting us make our own decisions while making sure we had all the information we needed. Throughout the whole renovation, Maxwell and Lathen were great about walking us through what they were doing, updating us, looping us in on every decision, and are both fun guys to be around. The tilers, plumbers, and electricians Maxwell brought in were all excellent, and gave us confidence that we'll never have to redo the bathroom again. Overall, we're extremely happy with the outcome; personally, I spend a good 10 minutes more a day in the shower because it's so nice! We highly, highly recommend Maxwell and Green Light.

I hope this review is helpful to others. Please take the time to read it. It has been a good lesson…read morefor me when dealing with contractors. I have contacted the business owner about these issues and was told that these things "can be like pulling teeth." and it has been. That's why I'm leaving this here. From the start, I was looking to install one egress window in our basement. I asked on Nextdoor for egress window install help and got recommendations for Tony Zilka. I looked at online reviews, mostly positive, and checked out their website which stated they've been, "installing egress windows for over 15 years. Our expertise is unmatched and we can guarantee that you will be satisfied with the results." And "It will take 1 to 2 days to dig, cut, haul, frame, and install your window. We always clean up after ourselves and never leave trash behind" They must have dropped the ball on my account. Notes: - Tony Zilka, the company owner, did not show up to our initial appointment. I had scheduled with Tony when it was convenient with my family (pregnant wife and two year old). He never showed up. An hour later I called and rescheduled as he somehow never had me booked. - The next meeting, he was late again, I emphasized importance of light in the basement and protecting my two year old from falling in the egress. Tony told me install date in four weeks, and that it would take two days to complete. We agreed on a plan and I payed 50% down promptly. - A week prior of the agreed start date, I asked if we were still on schedule. It took Tony a week to respond after emails/calls and he said later he'd check into it. - An ADDITIONAL three weeks later and after multiple delayed attempts of communication with Tony to get work started, work began. - Tony's workers arrived a Monday afternoon. They dug a couple hours and said they'd be back, the day after tomorrow, Wednesday morning. - To our surprise, without contact, the next day, TUESDAY morning, My family and I woke up to a shovel scraping against the side of the house. - On Thursday, one worker got shocked when he sawed through a live electrical cable running to an existing outlet below the window they where working on. Another ripped multiple lines of paint off the ceiling when removing a plastic barrier. - Garbage/debris was left in our yard for four days after install. This forced us to cancel holiday dinner plans and it made our yard unsafe and unusable for our guests and child. (See photos) - The egress cover installed admitted less light to the basement than the original window, which was 1/4 the size. (See photos) - Poured concrete in the egress didn't extend to the bottom of well and finish was subpar. (See photos) As you can see, I had a very difficult experience dealing with Tony Zilka especially while considering my family situation. It's unacceptable that a two-day job can turn into nine days. Poor communication, inconsistent quality and unsafe work all made this very unpleasant. Conclusions - Good online reviews and recommendations aren't a sure thing - Don't hire someone who can't keep appointments, or is hard to get ahold of (In my situation, difficult to back out with 50% down) - Set reasonable timelines in a contract - Record/Document communications/work - Withhold full payment until your satisfied I hope this helps.

His guys are friendly, polite, skilled and hard workers. They took on my basement egress window with enthusiasm and optimism -- characteristics I really appreciate, especially when it comes to a tough job! And mine sure was. This was a challenging project, with thick walls to cut; a narrow window of time and high expectations for a clean finish. They began and finished on time; the job was beautifully done and the space left in very clean condition. So stop searching for your egress guy. Tony's your man, and Zilka Construction is your company. Aren't you happy? Now you have the rest of your day to enjoy. :-) Seriously: My job was super-important to me as a part of my Air BnB business. It needed to be perfect. With Zilka Construction, it was. You're welcome!

They resided my entire house (after another company did an awful job that resulted in water damage) and replaced several windows and installed a cedar soffit. Communication could use improvement, and I would not recommend them to replace any exterior doors (their bid was insanely high). There were a few issues along the way (damaged meter box, dented gutter) that I wish would have been brought to my attention, but everything was addressed and in the end the crew went above and beyond to make me happy. They did an excellent job installing a beautiful cedar soffit, which is now my favorite part of my house.

But I do need to point out some glaring details about this project as a note to myself more than anyone else before hiring this company. I first reached out to them in November last year and Manuel responded back very promptly using the odd messaging system Yelp uses. We traded a few messages, and Justin came out not long after to do a survey on the broken window in the bathroom which looked like it had been hit with a BB or a bullet. He gave me an estimate on replacing that window but pointed out that a lot of my other windows either had a lot of condensation build-up and/or mold beginning to grow out of the dampness. I ended up making the executive call to replace them all. It was a perfectly enjoyable hour or two discussing and then finishing up paperwork. He said he'd be in touch in about 4 - 6 weeks and left. That's where communication on an unprompted basis ended. I waited for almost 2 months before I picked up on the old Yelp thread because no one ever reached out during that period. Manuel told me twice he'd get back to me, but he never did. Someone named Skylar called me and told me Manuel had left on family leave. What kind of professional leaves his customers without notifying them that they are being handed to another representative? Then Skylar handed me off to Luke and despite my request to give me a heads up so I could let my work know if I needed to be home, he never confirmed anything. A third party delivery service showed up while I was sleeping and I had to clear out my garage so they had room. Then half an hour later Alex and his team showed up to start installing. I'm lucky my job was flexible enough to take me not coming in that week, but for other customers, do they have that kind of agility? It took them two days total to do the main job and then finish. After that Alex showed me the work and I signed a paper that he said was more for his team (I do a lot of projects for work and I'm pretty sure they were contractors for ASW). After that Luke said he had to do a walk for job completion that was never followed up on. I called him as promised and he said he'd get back to me, but he didn't. Then came the Docusign asking me to verify the job walk was done. I didn't sign it, thinking he had to do his walk. This was a $20k job. This is the first house I've ever owned. I wanted to be sure. He then said the job walk was done and I signed off on the work which meant the paper I signed with Alex was the final sign off, but he could have just explained this and saved us an email thread. One final laughable detail is his email to me didn't have an attachment, so his marketing team had to send me the photo he referenced to verify I signed. All in all, this whole process left me feeling like I was an inconvenience to them rather than a customer. The plus side: The windows look great. They reduce outside temperature and noise at a noticeable level. But ASW is just the coordinator. Other companies manufacture the windows, deliver them and install them. The one thing they should excel at is communication with the customer, but they decidedly don't.
