This is my friend's favorite brunch spot in Michigan and the hype is justified as it was packed on a Saturday morning. While solid, nothing really stood out as amazing. They don't have any specialty coffee drinks, just your regular ole brewed coffee, which doesn't knock off any stars but is interesting for a brunch spot. read more

Overall a good experience from food to service. Ordered chorizo skillet which I was told was a good amount of food for the price. I came with two eggs, chorizo, hot sauce on side, skillet potatoes, and your choice of toast or pancakes. We got pancakes for 3$ more. It was worth the upcharge. The skillet itself was indeed a good amount of food but I had no problem finishing it. The waitress was nice and addressed all our needs. It quickly became busy around 930am on a Sunday. read more

Went there for breakfast today and this is now my new favorite spot. Had the Dubai chocolate pancake there with apple cinnamon French toast, chicken cordon blue omelette. All items were amazing. The omelette was probably the best we have had in a while. Service was good too, we were early enough to beat the crowd so were seated promptly. By 10am this was almost full to have a waiting beyond. Will come back here for sure. read more

My friend suggested we meet for breakfast and chose this place. When I saw how many options are available gluten free, I was sold. Staff were attentive and helpful. My friend and I both ordered a Monte Cristo, mine was gluten free and theirs was regular. We both really enjoyed our meals. The place started to pick up right around when we left. The women's bathroom has an interesting design/layout. I will definitely be back to try more items. read more

Second visit! Excellent experience still. The omelette was HUGE! Filled with incidents and tasted amazing. Even has guac inside the omelette, very unique! The pancake also delicious. Busy and popular diner spot! Loved the different pancake flavors, and loved that you can make your side of pancakes a specialty pancake. I got a skillet and side of apple pancakes. The pancakes were my favorite and I will be back for those. Staff is friendly, kind, and attentive; kept our water glasses full. read more

The last time I was here was probably about 10 years ago and I remember not really enjoying it. Today was an entirely different experience. Very friendly staff, clean bright interior, and we were seated immediately even though they were pretty busy. I ordered the Greek chicken wrap with sweet potato fries. The wrap was delicious and packed with ingredients. My husband had the chilafry (middle eastern specialty dish that we eat for breakfast). It was seasoned well and even though my grandma makes it the best, I thought it was pretty good for a restaurant. We shared the fruit crepes and I appreciate that they used fresh fruit rather than that gross jellified fruit that a lot of breakfast places use. With a coffee, this meal came out to $54 which is a little high but the portion sizes are great and the food was too. I would definitely return to try more of the menu. read more

Really freaking good. Tons of options. Only complaint is the prices. I don't go out for breakfast often but was kind of blown away at how expensive it was. Think it was $100 before tip for 2 adults and 3 kids. I get it, running a restaurant is hard in 2026 and I don't know their financials but just saying. read more

I love the food. It's always fresh and hot the service is always fast. The servers are always polite

Good food. Prices are moderately high. Service was kind. They are busy on the weekend so please have patience for them. Menu is BIG. Not a ton of tables, and only so many for groups bigger than 4. read more

When you're traveling with 5 and 1 infant on the 4th of July, craving brunch, and have someone who needs a gluten free option, where do you go? To Johnny Cakes Cafe! Food: frutopia GF pancakes were on point; they were huge, delicious, and did I mention GF?! The omelettes looked good; portions were massive. Plates weren't cleaned but no one complained. Service: Friendly! We had to remind our waitress to bring out one item, and unfortunately she didn't let us know they were out of the soup until our bill came (and one in the party obviously didn't get it). Ambiance: I don't think you come here for the ambiance. It's super casual. Could have been better cleaned between parties. But the space was conducive to a large group. We had a 30 min wait. I'd come back if I were staying in the area; there are so many more pancakes and French toast options to try! read more

LOVE this place. Everything is so good and fairly priced for your sizing. It's like a small diner type and feel and taste great! Can be in and out for breakfast fast if you like but it's so nice for a brunch spot. read more

Was excited to try this place. Their menu is huge with a great selection of savory and sweet options. The omelette I had was incredibly dry. The hashbrowns that came with it were a bit undercooked. I also tried the pumpkin french toast which was one of their seasonal items. It was pretty good without being overly sweet. The space was clean and service was great. read more

Think of a few places to eat where they would charge you, your wife, and 2 toddlers $100 for a whole meal. Got it? Did Jonny Cakes Cafe come to mind? Neither did I. ABSOLUTELY ABSURD! Here's what we got, Breakfast Burrito $17 An egg skillet $16 A fruitopia pancake $15.50 Pb&j sandwich with fruit $9 (no joke) Side of sausage ($5) A lemonade $4 2% milk $4 2 coffees ($4 each) And no, the coffee wasn't some gourmet dark roast from the plains of Columbia. It was the same coffee you'd get from a continental breakfast at a Red Roof Inn. Horrible. Sure, the wait staff was great but NOT $100 WORTH! The quality of food was sub par to any local coney diner. Nothing special. Hell, you could go to the grocery store, get the same ingredients and make the food yourself at home for cheaper. Now before you go on say "I just added your meal together and it was $70. Not $100." You gotta tip your waitress. And don't forget about tax. And the cherry on the cake...I got sick. I felt like I had a brick in my stomach the entire day after leaving there until I ultimately threw up a few hours later and felt better. 0/10 would not recommend. read more

Ok place if your party is 4 people or less. Not able to seat large groups easily. Noisy environment. Difficult to have a conversation. After waiting 30 minutes to be seated. Told it would be longer and asked our party of 12 to wait outside in mid 40 degrees weather for seating. read more

Service was good, they frequently check in with you. But the sandwiches were very meh especially for the prices. Honestly, the burger looked and tasted like something I could make myself (and I'm an okay-ish cook). The fries were excellent and crispy. read more

Took my mom here for lunch, and we were not impressed. Their prices for sandwiches and salads started at $11, so I was expecting some good food. My mom got the cobb salad, the lettuce was wilted and the cucumbers slimy. She ate the bacon off the salad, but didn't want to be a nuisance and send the salad back or have it taken off the menu. I, on the other hand, wanted to turn up, but I respected my mother's wishes. My chicken sandwich was so greasy, but we ended up splitting that for our lunch. From the reviews, it sounds like this may be a place to go for breakfast, but in my opinion, it certainly is not worth it for luch. lunch read more

Came here for brunch on a Sunday and it was about a 20 min wait. The decor isn't anything mind blowing but there's enough seating for groups of up to 8. I ordered the PB&J french toast and it was DIVINE. I still haven't been able to stop thinking about it. I also had a strawberry french toast and that was quite delicious as well. My friend ordered an omelette and unfortunately it came out wrong twice. The first time it came out with pickled jalapeños instead of fresh ones (as we specified we wanted only fresh) which later turned out they don't carry to begin with. They remade the dish but the second time it came out with bacon (which we didn't add). We don't watch bacon for religious reasons so we had to send it back. The staff however, did their best to fix the issue and even discounted our entire meal. read more

Food is consistently good, mostly breakfast fare. A handful of vegetarian options. It can get a bit noisy when they bus the tables because they use those heavy ceramic dishes. That's probably my one and only complaint is the noise while bussing. Otherwise the atmosphere is great. Servers are friendly, efficient, and accurate. They will keep your coffee cup full as well as your stomach. read more

Great place for breakfast! Big menu with something for everyone. Kids loved the Nutella and strawberry crepes.

I was having a lousy morning, it was a Saturday, cold and snowy. I was going to give up on getting anything accomplished and just head home and make myself breakfast. I saw Jonny Cakes and decided to give them a try. I walked in, the place was packed. I was greeted right away, I chose to sit at the counter. My waitress didn't let me wait, she was right there, with a menu in hand, water and ready with coffee. We had a little chat, then I scanned the menu. I had been checking out the orders of other patrons. Everything looked scrumptious, my eyes set on the skillet, consisting of potatoes, 2 cheeses, sausage, choice of eggs and either toast or pancakes. It was delicious, I took more than half home. Jonny Cakes do a little special pancakes dish with whipped cream, sprinkles and a BIRTHDAY CANDLE. The wait staff work well, their combined energy is on spot. By the time I left, I was well fed and had a new hope for the day. read more

Incredible breakfast place. I'm visiting from Texas and had to try a local breakfast place. Nice local feeling. I ordered the homemade Corn Beef Hash. I have eaten here 3 times now. The first time I ordered avocado toast and it was good. The second I ordered the cranberry pecan pancakes. They don't cook them inside the pancakes but just lay on top. It was plenty but would be better cooked inside. The pancakes were not very good, dry. The next time I went I ordered the Reuben. It was okay but not the best. The sweet potato fries were burnt and cold. The coffee and service were good. It is a pleasant, clean atmosphere. The portions are huge here but would prefer quality over quantity. read more

Overall solid experience! They stated 35 mins to wait, but we were seated in 10/15. The service was adequate, but the food was outstanding. Some of the best pancakes I've had. The omelette was so flavorful it made my mouth water. If I had to pick on negative, the hash browns could have used more time on the griddle. I like mine well done. However, that's a preference not a must! Glad we stuck it out for the wait time, well worth it! read more

This place is my FAVORITE go to breakfast/brunch place in the greater Troy area. The wait staff is friendly and helpful even though they are normally busy. They have many great entrees that can satisfy your food desires. For starters, I ordered with chicken sriracha omelette and made it healthy by substituting only egg whites. Very healthy, filling, and my all time favorite entree from this place. I the upgraded my pancakes for an extra $1 to get a specialty pancake (look at pictures) and got a side of fruit. My friend ordered the eggs Benedict and said it was the best she ever had in Michigan. It is open faced with hollandaise sauce. She ordered the skillet as well and said it was well worth it. We also split the chicken and waffles, but didn't think much of it. Lastly, they always offer/display different specials on a whiteboard that could be worth an order!! read more

Not so great. Waitress was inattentive, when I was her ONLY customer. More interested in yakking with a co-worker. Potatoes were GREASY. It's a decent size spot, off the beaten path. Doesn't take long to get a table, even if there's a line. We ordered the sriracha chicken omelet, sandwiched between cheesy hash browns. I ordered the Mexican omelet with turkey sausage instead of chorizo, upgraded to the cinnamon raisin toast and added green pepper and onions to my hash browns. The jellies for the toast are Smucker's brand and they have at least the flavored hazelnut flavored coffee mate creamer. Their pancakes are super fluffy and light as air. My husband loves and is devouring his sriracha chicken omelet. Cholula sauce would make my Mexican omelet much better, still it is not bad with the sriracha but would be better paired with cholula for sure. The Mexican omelet wasn't bad, had a subtle kick and low ember fire from the jalapeños. My hash browns are perfectly crispy and tasty. The green peppers and onions had a nice char and added a nice flavor to the hash browns. The service was quick, food was out in a flash. They turn over tables here quick here. Back here again for more yummy brunch. We are getting the same things, they were that good. I did have to get my Mexican omelet cooked a bit more as the whites weren't fully cooked through. The Mexican had a lot more jalapeño than the first visit. Our chicken sriracha and the Mexican was just as good as the first time. The side of pancakes were just as fluffy and light as the first visit. I ate the Mexican omelet with a side of sriracha and it was better. read more
