Dime Store looked very familiar to me -- and then, it occurred to me that it used to be the Grand Traverse Pie Company that I'd visited for a Yelp Elite Event several years ago. The restaurant is very open, and it is attached to Papa Joe's market. There's also a doughnut store in the same little area. I had the mushroom and goat cheese omelette, and I really liked that you could get a salad as a side; while I love potatoes, salad just seemed to fit with this kind of omelette. I got rye toast (which was really marble rye), and it came with homemade strawberry jam. Or maybe it was dressing. I liked it on the salad! The omelette was very good as well. Ordered hot black coffee, jasmine green tea, the duck bop hash, upgrade to biscuit, Rueben omelet, English muffin and side of truffle mayo, 2 side chicken sausage, side house salad and side of chive cream cheese. $65.19 The duck was rather gamey, there was something in this dish that made it overly sweet about this dish that didn't sit well for me. Expected savory and maybe slightly spicy, it wasn't. I only ate a couple of bites and couldn't get over the gamey and sweetness of this dish. My hubby ended up eating the rest of it. Side salad was fine, lettuce and cucumbers were fresh. I did find a random stowaway chocolate chip at the bottom of my bowl that didn't belong. The chicken sausage is good, not dry and perfectly cooked. Their homemade biscuits are quite good, big, had a nice crunchy crust from the griddle. Even better with their house strawberry jam. Went back to The Dime Store on a busy Sunday morning. Was extremely happy to see they changed all their table seating. Our table had a variety of things with the cheese steak Benny, Belgian waffles, the veggie Benny, and French toast. I think most people were very satisfied I had the mushroom, goat cheese and fried onion omelette with multi grain bread and home fried potatoes. It was very good. My friend and I decided to grab brunch at Dime Store yesterday morning, and fortunately we were seated immediately at around 11:30 AM. It was quite busy, but our server brought us water and took our orders fairly quickly. However, we didn't get our food until 12:15 PM, and during this time, the server barely checked in. After finishing, we had to flag her down to close the bill. CHEESESTEAK BENNY - 17 Each order comes with a side of house breakfast potatoes, fresh fruit, or side salad. I chose the potatoes, and that turned out to be a mistake. They were stale and hard to eat, almost as if they had been made earlier and left forgotten. The first cheesesteak benny I tried was pretty tasty -- the combination of cheesesteak, white cheddar, poached egg, and hollandaise sauce created hearty and rich bites. However, I wasn't sure if it was just because I was hungry after waiting so long for my food. The second benny was much blander compared to the first. The English muffin was soggy, even though I finished my platter within 12 minutes, so the sogginess is not due to slow eating. My friend got the SPICY CUBAN RICE BOWL, which she thought was just OK. I had the original Dime Store on my list for a while, but never managed to get out there. Then this new location opened up and I knew I had to give it a go. It's a cute place that's attached to the market next door. The ceilings are nice and high, but it's not overwhelmingly noisy inside. The servers were really friendly and got us a seat right away. The menus have a good selection without being overwhelming, and there are specials as well. While we were waiting for our food (which came out quick), Mitchell, one of the owners came over and offered us a cinnamon roll that they made that morning "for funsies". That was an awesome interaction, and he came over a few other times to check on us. The food came out, and it was awesome. My Benny was amazingly tasty, and I'd definitely get it again. My only quibble was that the bottom of the English muffin was a little over-toasted, but that was really minor. My daughter was really impressed by the malted waffle, it was nice and brown and crispy. The extra strawberries were ripe and delicious. Was so excited to hear they opened this location! And glad I finally got a chance to try it. The Detroit location always has a minimum 1.5 hour wait for Sunday brunch, but here we walked in 15 minutes before closing and were seated immediately, and all staff were extremely kind and accommodating even though they were closing soon. We ordered the Spicy Korean Fries, Cold-Smoked Salmon Benny, and Mexican Street Corn Hash. We added shredded "fiesta" chicken to the Mexican Street Corn Hash and it was absolutely delicious; it was hard to choose, but it was our favorite dish of the three. The place has a nice feel but kind of pricey along with $4 coffee that is not even good. Don't mind the higher price if the food is great but it's just ok... I had the corn beef hash and the presentation was great but carrots and brussel sprouts?? The coffee is $4 and it wasn't really hot and had a sour aftertaste. We tried the Detroit location once and really enjoyed it, thus, we want to try this location as well. They have an excellent veggie benny, the side salad was terrific too. Let me start with thanking Paul for his awesome service! The wait was minimal to get a table for Sunday brunch. This location has two levels. Once you go up the stairs to the second floor you are overlooking Papa Joe's Market. This would be ideal for a larger party gathering. We dined on the first floor where it was a little loud which is partially because of the high ceiling and a full house of brunchers. My sorority sister and I were both at this location for the first time so we opted for two of the chef's specials. We love to eat! I settled on the Spinach Artichoke Omelette with potatoes and multi-grain toast. It was delicious. I must say I had a succulent meal. My sister tried the Apple Pancakes and a side of potatoes. We visited the new Rochester location after we heard about it on social media. It's located in the old Grand Traverse Pie Co space at Rochester Road and Tienken. It was easy to find and there is plenty of parking in the lot. The restaurant is very open with high ceilings so the noise level seems somewhat high. It was crowded and there was a wait for a table so we opted to sit at the bar where there were plenty of seats. The staff is super friendly and we're quick to serve us coffee and water. I like having a sweet item with eggs and bacon but they have a very limited number of sweet items on the menu. We ordered the spinach artichoke omelette and the honey peach French toast - both were specials. The omelette was very good - not overly stuffed so you could taste the egg. It came with hash browns (the small square kind) which were cooked perfectly. It also came with a choice of bread so I got an English Muffin that came toasted. The portions are large so I didn't finish it all but I didn't have a heavy feeling in my stomach either - it was a "good" full. My husband had the French toast and it was really good but a bit heavy on the whipped cream on top. I like that there are more new brunch places popping up in the area creating more options but we had a great meal and enjoyed the ambience so we'll return. read more

Cute establishment with lots of breakfast options and a kids menu. Good Zingermanns coffee. Just wish they had real half and half. This is hands down the most I've ever spent on breakfast for my toddler and I and we brunch out a lot. Most establishments kid's menus includes a kids drink, kids item, fruit and protein for under $8 (go to First Watch or Fly Trap to see how they do it better). I paid about $16 for his breakfast here (before tip and tax). We will likely not return because of the high prices. Overall the pancakes were good with nice crispy edges. The goat cheese mushroom omelette was ok. Seemed small like a 2 egg omelette. The potatoes were dry and the crispy onions didn't complement the dish. Service was ok. Appears you have to refill your own coffee at the pump carafe and she didn't give me a pen to pay the bill and disappeared for a good 5 minutes before we could finally pay and leave. Let's start with the highlights (5-star plus) of our visit: The staff definitely comes in at number one. Five stars for sure. From the greeters, to the servers, food runners and kitchen staff, these people know how to hustle and appear to work well together. Their friendly demeanor was very welcoming. We had a front row seat to watch the kitchen staff. Hard workers. And there were a lot of staff. The decor and spacious seating options are also assets. I didn't take photos because there were so many people, I didn't want anyone to feel unhappy being photographed without their consent. The space is modern, open, shiny new with appealing and eclectic visual details. BIG cups of coffee which was very yummy. I believe it's Zingerman's, another one of our favorite restaurants. Finally, what we loved most was the opportunity to have the Dime Store in our backyard. We are fans of the Detroit restaurant and have always had a good experience there. The concept of locally sourced food and a menu that reflects seasonal options is very appealing. So appreciate knowing where my food comes from and supporting local businesses. The remaining comments, unfortunately, are not stellar. We had high expectations and definitely left feeling disappointed. We arrived on a Friday at 11:30 am and were told it would be a 30-minute wait. True to their word, we were seated within 30-minutes. It appeared from watching the organization of tables that the staff were struggling with seating a bit. As a party of 2, there were 4-tops open that were empty and we were not offered earlier seating. Larger parties who arrived later were seated first. We were "in the queue" for a 2-top. I get the logic, but the system was inefficient and didn't feel attentive. We also were not asked if we preferred to sit at the bar. Only by watching others come in and get seated immediately did we know it was an option. The ambience was attractive and spacious yet incredibly loud. It was difficult to maintain a stream of thought let alone conversation. The warehouse, open ceiling, cement floor vibe is apparently horrible for acoustics. Not sure how to work on this but it is so overstimulating. Our decaf coffee arrived quickly in very large cups that are awesome for holding. My husband takes cream ...... it curdled. Took a while for us to flag down our server to replace his coffee. He didn't risk using more cream and the server didn't take the cup at our table and replace it. A detailed but important since we all know how important that first cup of coffee is I ordered the corned beef hash and my husband ordered the special chicken shawarma hash. We both had biscuits. Our meals arrived in a timely manner. They had nice visual appeal. The biscuits were large, fluffy and golden. The homemade jam was a nice touch. Each hash order had a drizzle of a special sauce and the hash itself was comprised of golden cubed roasted potatoes, carrots, onion and maybe diced celery with some herbs. Looked wonderful. Upon the first bite, my husband asked, "Is your food warm?" I took a bite of egg and sauce which was warm but quickly realized the hash and biscuit were only luke-warm, not hot. We agreed that it is likely the biscuits and hash sat in food warmers that were not hot enough or the food was made in large quantities and allowed to cool too much to be appealing. The egg was made right before adding to the hash and was nicely warm. Seeing how quickly the food runners brought out our meal, I know it wasn't sitting around. The flavor of our meals was fine, not great. It might have all come together nicely had the food felt freshly prepared and hot,not sure. Our $38 tab for two breakfasts felt consistent with the area. Attention to guest needs during our meal was poor. One staff member, not our server, stopped by to ask how we were doing. We noticed that there was no one refilling coffee or even offering. We had to flag down our server to get more coffee. There was, however, staff circling the cafe with a carafe of water and looking for guests who were finished eating. Plates were quickly taken away and a bill arrived promptly. Overall, it felt like the priority was to move people in and out quickly. The focus on efficiency sacrificed quality both in the enjoyment of the food and the connection with really nice staff that could have resulted in a very different feel to the experience. I am a fan of the Dime Store concept and flagship store. I hope that this store settles in, works out some bugs and enjoys wild success. Slow it down, connect with your customers and focus on quality in each meal. It's in the details. We will definitely stop by in the fall to update this review. read more

I was so happy to try this place now that they have a location a little closer to my home. Service was good but the food was not. I was really disappointed with my French toast but I ate it anyway. I just can't believe this is the best quality French toast they decided was good enough to sell in a restaurant. It lacked flavor and tasted and the presentation was blah. I don't recommend this dish at all. The skillet was good but it wasn't very filling. The best part were the potatoes. They forget the muffin that was suppose to be served with it but by the time I realized that, I was already in my car and it wasn't worth going back inside for it. I'm so happy the dime store finally opened. It's a nice addition to Rochester Hills, and it means I don't have to drive downtown to eat at this fine dinery. I decided to come here at the last minute as I was starving and was on the fence about breakfast or lunch. I didn't want to hit my usual spot so I came here instead. The place is well decorated and the staff's friendly. I'd already reviewed the menu beforehand while getting my car washed, so I had my eye on two separate dishes. I was torn between the Cuban rice bowl and the corn beef hash. I asked the waitress about the spice level of the Cuban dish and I couldn't really tell if it was super spicy or not, so I played it safe and went with the corn beef hash. The food was good, but I didn't really like it as much as I would've thought. I should've gone with something more traditional like an omelet or pancakes instead. It borderline tasted almost like a lunch dish with some of the flavors going on. It seemed like it was corned beef and eggs almost on top of a salad? I knew it had brussel sprouts in it, and even though I'm not a fan, I only ate a few to see how they were. Still not a fan of brussel sprouts. LOL. I will say the hash browns were fabulous and the corned beef was totally on point, so it wasn't a total loss here. I think I'm going to try this place again and stick with an omelet to see if that's maybe more my speed here. I like some seasoning but this was way too much and I left feeling gross and nauseous from the taste still in my mouth. Sausage biscuit sandwich is nothing special. We went on Sunday to the dime store and our experience was great! Our daughter was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and we were nervous to attend any restaurants. Mitch went above and beyond our expectations to make us feel safe and heard to make sure our daughter could eat what she wanted for her breakfast!
