UPDATE: After the Hurricane Beryl hit the Houston area back in July, we called for several quotes to cut down and remove two HUGE trees in our back yard. We got quotes that were high due to the demand but David and James hit me with a quote of $25,000. Yes, $25,000 for two trees. When we said we had to call and get other quotes, James (from the Dallas area) who was in Houston to chase and take advantage of desperate Houston residents called me and threw $18,000 but I said no, he then offered up $15,000 and I still said no because I knew better and he was simply trying to take advantage of me. I went with a referral from a friend and went with Navarro Tree service for $9,500 for both trees. Not sure what caused Jones Tree service to lose their integrity but they did and it came at a very stressful and difficult time for so many countless Houstonians. I would stay away from these guys and it's a shame, I liked them and used them four years ago and I will never use them or refer them - MY ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW FOR REFERENCE: Had a beautiful four-story-tall oak tree in our backyard that covered half of our roof that unfortunately needed to come down. It had massive root rot that allowed termites to destroy half of it that was not seen without examining it. So we contacted several companies which gave us some bids that were drastically different; from very, very high to suspiciously low. We went with our gut & instincts and went with Jones Rd Tree Service because the botanists David & William were very professional and incredibly honest with their estimate while taking into account the level of peril & issues that could occur. In April they removed front yard oak tree and their stump grinder cut through four sprinkler lines costing $665 to repair. David Mauk, owner refused to pay cost of repairs after several emails and calls showing damage and repair bill. It's now almost end of June. Called Jones Road Tree service Thursday morning before an upcoming cold snap in hopes we could get someone to come out and trim back some live oak branches that were extending over our roof. Not a difficult task but daunting for people who don't have all the tools and are getting a little old to be up on ladders. Ben understood our concerns, had us send pictures for the arborist to approve, and found a way to get a crew out there by 4 pm the same day. The crew did a good job evaluating where to make the cuts to protect both the roof and our tree. The price was very reasonable, especially considering the 'last minute' request. We will be calling them when we have the trees maintenance-pruned in the next few months. read more

Lots of odd behaviors upon estimate/consultation appt. 1) David Mauk had to call and get "confirmation" about what my tree could have. Also didn't know Japanese Blueberry Tree leaves turn red when dead and shedding. If you're a certified arborist you should know these things. 2) Took a phone call from an irritated client about appointment miscommunication. She was on speaker so I heard everything. David apologized for this and commented that this client was "a pain" and "difficult to work with". Inappropriate to have these comments relayed to a potential client. 3) Stated he would "wave the visit fee". I was never made aware there was a consultation fee. 4) asked multiple times about where I'm from. Claiming he was "curious" he then asked if I was from Mexico and stated he thought I was because "you look Hispanic". After stating unnecessarily that I was Native he then asked my tribe name. None of which is any of his business and the former is extremely IGNORANT and rude. Learn decorum please. After initially having issues with workmanship, Jones Road came back out, finished the job.

We scheduled an appointment for them to come to our property to give an estimate. On the day/time of the appointment, no one showed up. I called the office, they said they are running late. I called again 2 hours later, they finally sent the owner Dave. The estimate to cut and remove a 60 foot tree was $3000, and even after some negotiation, $2500 is still very unreasonable (knowing we just had a tornado in the area and tree trimming is in high demand, $2500 seems to be price gouging). Dave also asked me if i heard about his company from my Asian friends. It is offensive to make such assumption/comment and my ethnicity should be irrelevant in getting a tree removal estimate. Jones Road Tree Service is disrespectful throughout the entire interaction, I was very disappointed. read more

The difference was Jones road took a ton of photos so his guys would know where to cut and and how to cut. And he waited until the proper time of year for cutting on oak trees. read more

I have been a customer of Jones Road Tree Service in 4 houses over 25 years. Never have I ever been treated so disrespectful from David and his staff. Did not complete the job after coming out 3x, called a liar by his staff and hung up on, left back gate open and dog ran away. Except for them calling and emailing weekly for payment there has been no acknowledgement or attempt to finish the job I waited over 8 weeks to start on tree trimming! Highly disappointed in David and his staff and will never use or recommend his business to anyone....yes David the owner knows all of the above. How sad they care so little about a long long time customer and one who has recommended him so often. Side comment as 2 other customers I have recommended Jones Road to, they cut down 1 friends healthy oak tree and not the dead one and another friend had all of the wrong trees trimmed in their back yard!!! We made an appointment for 8:30 Monday morning. When no pne showed up by 9 we called their office and had to leave a message that was never returned. Soneone called at 10:15 to say they were 15 minutes away. No acknowledgement of being two hours late. Showed up and told us our best option was to rent a stump grinder and do the work ourselves. David came out to our house to take a look and recommended what should be done with our backyard but also took into account some of our concerns as well. I tried scheduling this company twice to remove some trees. The first time, the owner failed to communicate to his office staff that it was to be done. So I called and scheduled a new date. When that day came and went without them showing, I called back and the lady I spoke to misrepresented our call and said that I wanted to call back to let her know a date. In fact, we settled on a date on that phone call. The lady was not apologetic at all and blamed me, the customer. It was a little difficult scheduling our service but they were spot on with their diagnosis and treatment of our giant Live Oak tree. It had moss balls and if it had gone untreated it could have killed this beautiful tree. They have trimmed and treated our tree since 2008. I also used them when I lived in Oak Forrest back in 2006. I have *Tried* using them many times over the years. They have a constant habit of not calling back, and even if you do get them, actually getting them to come out it a crap shoot. I called and scheduled someone to come out today. They never showed. I just called them and they said that it never actually got scheduled. I will never use them again. I was given a verbal quote of $250 without anyone coming out to look at the trees. After reading another review of the company, I called back to get my quote in writing. I called Jones Road Tree Service to ask for an estimate to trim my crepe myrtle. The guy says, $250. I said, that's too much, and hung up. The guy calls me back, and said, What side of town are you on? Um, I live on JONES ROAD and Louetta....so he says, oh, then it's only $125. I said, that's still too much, no thanks. I had already went to JRTS website the night before to ask for an estimate - they sent me an email, with a quote of $150. I wrote them an email right back, and said, How can you send me a quote when you haven't even seen the tree I am talking about? This is a crepe myrtle....not a fifty foot pine. Very annoying. My lawn guys ended up doing exactly what I wanted for free. read more

I asked for bids from three companies only to find out that none of them had worker's compensation insurance on their employees. Since tree servicing is an inherently dangerous occupation, I did not want someone's employee sueing me if they were injured on my property. Jones Road not only had full insurance coverage, their price was not that much higher than those without and their work was exemplary. They came on the date promised and removed three trees and trimmed the rest and were out in one day. The person doing the aerial work had proper protective gear and was an artist on landing cut branches and heavy trunk pieces where they needed to go without damaging my garage or the fence they were next to. I only awarded them four stars because they dropped the ball on communicating some additions to the original proposal which I had to call them on a couple of times to schedule getting the work done. Over all, a minor issue that would not keep me from using them again. read more

They slightly higher bud than others but we went with them because of their high reviews. They showed up 6 hours late but removed our two fallen trees and were to return within 3 days to stump grind. They returned with a tiny grinder not suited for the job and never came back. The owner who bid the job will not take our calls & the office lady has told us multiple times they will be there today but no one shows up. They have now sent us an invoice for higher than the bid for a job they haven't finished! They have not even collected the signed contract from us! Terrible service and very unprofessional!
