In 2015 I was planning to move abroad. I rented out my house and put all the belongings that I was keeping in storage with Jones. I was led to believe that my furniture would be in its own little storage compartment and not get disturbed. The furniture that I kept was all mid century collectible furniture in excellent condition. I ended up moving back into my house two years later. Almost every single piece of furniture was damaged or banged up in some way. On one of the larger pieces was a sign indicating it was in a storage room for oversize pieces. For sure my furniture was not in its own little compartment, and it obliviously was carelessly moved around many times. They sent someone to "repair" the damage which basically entailed covering it up with a magic marker. A really disappointing experience. I had a very difficult move. I had to leave all my belongings in storage because I moved to LA. My life has been in storage for the last four years. It's been at Jones Moving and Storage. I flew back to empty my storage. First, they were amazing while my items were in storage. A few times I had to switch credit cards. They were very understanding. Today went so smoothly I'm in shock and awe. Andy did my paperwork. James, Marcus and Derrick emptied my storage space helping me separate what I was taking and what I was leaving behind to be donated. They all were incredibly nice, polite and truly helped me end a very difficult chapter of my life. They had me laughing and smiling when I thought I would be crying. I had to write a review and clear the negative air with this business. So, here it is. I am certainly a real person, not the owner or anybody affiliated with the company. Everything that follows is my honest and whole-hearten opinion; be prepared. I have moved many times, and have had BAD moving experiences. This was not one of them. Thank you Jones. I was moving from my 3rd floor walk-up in Attleboro, MA to a duplex in North Kingstown, RI. Also, it was a blissful 90 something degrees outside with the temperature rising to about 100 in my stuffy oven of a loft. Despite the weather, the three men did a great job of swiftly moving all my things (and stress) down the VERY tight and winding stairwell. I was given an estimate when I first arranged the move about a month earlier, and it ended up costing less than expected since they worked so diligently. A full round of applause for Devin, Jerry, and John. Devin also called ahead of time to let me know they were getting the truck ready, so, I should be expecting their arrival. Which, yes, they arrived on time. When all moved in, I did noticed tiny little scuffs on a couple things, but they came off easily or were on items I planned to replace anyhow. The company was recommended to me by my Father and Brother who both used them for a move and were impressed. I have not used them for storage, so I have nothing to comment for. *Tip for movers - Yes, this is considered hard labor, but they are still people. Don't treat the movers like trash and expect an amazing job. I prepared for the move and packed the majority of my things. Also, with the heat as such, I had lots of fresh water and towels ready. Oh, and here is a silly concept....helping. Unless you are actually disabled and truly UNABLE to help, don't sit around like a tool watching them. That is all. read more

I recently hired Jones to move a 2 room apartment from Cranston to our new home in Cranston We packed everything but the furniture and moved the majority of it ourselves. Not a very big move if you ask me. This move took 5.5 hours! My husband who was at the old apartment called me when they finally left and told me they said they were stopping for coffee before heading to the new place where I was waiting. (Not cool). An hour later they show up (Keep in mind it is a 15 minute drive between houses) and they told me there was an accident on the highway! One mover spent most of the time on his cell phone until I made a comment. I have never seen movers who needed direction on how to get basic furniture through the door! I stepped in and carried in furniture, helped them out the entire time, provided water and tipped them accordingly. Bottom line, a 2 room move should not take 5.5 hours and cost $770. Total rip off. I used Jones Moving & Storage on November 14 & 15. Greg, Rick, and JD moved my items out of my old home on the 14th, and then Greg, Chris, Kenny & Miguel moved my items into my new home on the 15th. I can't give them enough praise! Greg (I believe) was the head guy and he went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied, however they were ALL very professional, careful with my items, everything was in tact, NOTHING was lost or stolen, and they went above and beyond (not to mention all very friendly and a pleasure to have around). They even helped me carry some boxes from my car into my new home (which they did NOT have to do). Because of them, I was very satisfied with their services. Not to mention I checked around to different companies for prices and this company was the most reasonable. I would definitely recommend Jones Moving & Storage to others. read more

They moved stuff from my house a couple of years ago and put it in storage. I moved it from there to another storage place owned by one of my customers. When I found a place and unpacked my stuff, I was missing collectibles, electronics, jewelry and other items that were brand new. The owner said I had to file an insurance claim, the insurance company said "Prove it!"................many things were antiques you don't exactly have original receipts for...............much of what was small items that I paid $100-$200 dollars.................in the long wrong, I lost a few thousand dollars to those thieves...............make sure you get a background check on every employee then send to your house!. Never ever will I use them again! read more

Atrocious. If I could give them zero stars I would. I hired them to move 1 bedroom crosstown in Providence, about 1 mile. They had three guys, of whom only 1 appeared to be working at half speed at any given time. Altogether, they took 9 hours to move me, and broke a table and a lamp. They were moving so slowly I started unloading the boxes myself. It took me less time to move from New York a year earlier - three hours away!! I've moved about 8 times in the past 15 years for work and school. These guys were easily the absolute worst movers. Stay away from them. You'll thank me. read more

Just had a really good experience with this company, they carefully moved a fabulous (but very heavy and awkward) vintage pinball machine from Andover, MA, and into my basement. The movers were cheerful, careful and efficient. The company was flexible with me, too, changing the moving date at the last minute. I would definitely use them again. read more

We had a great experience with this company back in 2011. (I didn't write a review at the time, but seeing the negative feedback about them I wanted to weigh in now.) We moved from a 3rd floor walkup to another 3rd floor walkup across town, and our crew figured out how to get a large couch and box spring around several very tight turns in the winding, old-fashioned staircases. The best thing about our movers was that they were clearly smart and experienced, and so they planned exactly how a piece of furniture had to be oriented before picking it up. That meant there were no false starts or furniture getting wedged in hallways. It wasn't always quick-- it took almost half an hour to get our couch in-- but I appreciated their "measure twice, cut once" approach. Also, we moved on one of the hottest days of the year, and despite the very unpleasant conditions, Rob, Kyle, and Joe were pleasant and easy to work with. I am planning to hire them again for an upcoming move. read more

I would give them zero if there was an option. They are only really surviving from the RISD's some kind of "student special" thing.. which is rediculous. its $250 for whole summer , and everyone knows that people always bring two people's worth of stuff, i mean EVERYONE. If you are not a RISD student, please don't use this place. People here would lie to you about the price and everything. Delivery is rediculously expensive.(They tell me that moving to New York would be about $1500, which is like more than twice what I would have paid if I were to look for something on U-Haul for moving helpers) Overall, not a good experience. I highly discourage someone from using this. They also treat their workers like shit (If you listen to workers talk, their working hour is like impossible for a human being to handle.) I gave them a huge tip cuz i felt really bad, and I really would have stayed out of this place if i could have. Use someone else. Pay your friend to drive the truck for you. or something. Find something else on U-Haul. (My friend used some other company, which Jones also highly discourages because apparently other companies "do not have a license", but my friend said they are really nice and a lot cheper.) read more

I have hired Jones moving and storage 2 times and as of yet i have had nothing but a great experience with them. My brother had just passed away and i needed to move his belongings out of his apartment. They were so understanding of the stress i had already been through and made my moving his things as stress free as possible. They took care of his things when packing the contents but also were quick in getting the job done right. I would call this company again in a heart beat if I ever need some good movers. My wife and I had Jones move a multi-piece bedroom set from Central Falls, RI to our home in Uxbridge, MA. They were on time and completely professional in every way. Our furniture was treated with extreme care and there was absolutely no damage of any kind.. Before leaving they wanted to be sure we were pleased with the condition and placement of each piece. This place has a bunch of thieves that work here!!!! I moved recently, hired them and had my stuff stored here for a short period of time and noticed a number of my electronics missing. My lap top, my fire stick, my camera, my iPod on top of almost all my furniture being broken! I had a ceramic vase that was my grandmothers that is over 40 years old that was broken in 3 pieces!!! And wait it gets better. I HAD SURGERY AND WAS PRESCRIBED PERCOCET THAT WAS ALSO STOLEN!!!!! When I went there to tell them, the manager really had the audacity to say that they're not responsible. Oh really?!?! How so?!?! Help me understand how your movers and employees stole my belongings and destroyed them because everything was in boxes. All your incompetent employees had to do was pick up the boxes and furniture up and move them into the storage unit. It's really not a hard concept.... I'll definitely be in contact with the better business bureau and my lawyer. read more

I have used different movers in the past through UHaul and have felt generally ok with the results, but I'm realistic about goals with moving. When you move heavy furniture up stairs, the walls are likely to get scuffed. When you have Ikea furniture, it's only going to survive so many moves. That said, we have used Jones twice now: in 2014 when we had a short period of time to move during intern year of medical residency when I had zero time to prepare for the move, and we just finished moving with them again during my final year of residency when I (you guessed it) had not much time to help move. They have always been reliable, hard working and conscientious. They think of everything that might come up during the move when they do the estimate process (packing supplies, parking, day of week issues). They are transparent in pricing and pointing out things that will help save you money like saving your own TV boxes, providing covers from mattresses. I haven't had any problems with damage to furniture, but again, you have to be realistic with expectations. We haven't had a single plate, glass, electronic or mirror harmed. I saw a few negative reviews and have noticed they seem to be with out of town moves. We have always moved within the Providence area. When we move again, it will be with Jones. read more

I have used them twice -- 2011 and again in 2013. Man, did these guys hustle! Quick, quick, quick, even in high heat, which is impt when you're paying by the hour. Both times the estimates were quite reasonable, and one time they even came in under budget and gave me a refund. Used two other Prov area companies before them, and am I glad I found Jones Moving. Maybe it's a diff. division that deals with RISD summer storage, but for apartment moves, I'd definitely recommend them. read more

I only make a point to write a review when it's something that has impact, good or bad. Reserving movers for a move to a new home is major. You are putting your trust in them to assist with the final task of the stressful road leading up to a home closing. They were reserved a month in advance. They showed up saying they were not equipped to do the move. No pre call from the company ahead to confirm anything,but if all went as planned, I wouldn't even mention it. But since it didn't, fyi. This isn't a hairdresser appt, or teeth cleaning that is an easy reschedule, though they all follow up on the appt a day ahead. I don't even know why they showed up. Thank goodness they did, as after being called an expletive meaning a female dog, they went outside and left, without telling me. At this point nothing else to do but find another company, last minute. Which happened, but it hit the pocket. Thanks for being unprofessional, unresponsive, and rude. I hope this helps someone else, or the company to take note and try harder. Customer service is key in your industry. If you have guys spending an hour of the day travelling to a customer, ticking them off, then leaving, you lost that job, a potential referral to other customers, and the overhead of truck, fuel, and hour pay to two guys that give two ***** about your customers or your company. read more

I generally don't bother posting reviews but we had such a profoundly awful experience with Jones Moving & Storage that I wanted to let others know. We had them pick up our stuff in Rhode Island and deliver our things to NY a few days later. From the beginning they were unreliable and unprofessional- after assuring us that we would be first on their schedule, they arrived very late. When we called the central office, Mike answered the phone. He was rude, abrupt and offered no apology or explanation. The real disaster came later when they were supposed to deliver our stuff to NY. We gave them specific instructions to complete the delivery before 4 pm as per the rules of our new building. We repeatedly made it clear to them that the delivery had to be completed before 4 pm and coordinated with the management of our new building and they assured us that this would be no problem. They arrived after 4 pm because they had loaded the truck incorrectly- they put our stuff on the inside of the truck so they had to make 2 other deliveries first. This was an enormous hassle because we were out of the country and had someone waiting in the apartment all day, anticipating the delivery. When we found out about this and contacted them we dealt with Mike again. Again, he was discourteous, defensive and entirely unprofessional. We didn't hear a word of apology or explanation from him- instead he spouted off a list of excuses and took no responsibility for the error. He promised that the delivery would be made the next day, first thing in the morning. Again we had someone waiting in the apartment and by 3pm, Jones Moving Company hadn't shown. Multiple phone calls were made throughout the morning and Mike repeatedly told us that they would arrive any minute. They ended up coming at 3:30 pm. To make matters worse, they forgot to bring tools to reassemble 2 of our bed frames so they were left in pieces. Bottom line- I wouldn't recommend this moving company to anyone. They are incompetent, unprofessional and untrustworthy. Moving is always a stressful and tiring experience and the whole point of hiring movers is to alleviate some of the stress. These guys just don't seem to understand that. They are incompetent, unpleasant to deal with and their work and professional conduct doesn't inspire confidence or repeat business. I would not use them again and I regret trusting them with my things. I really encourage people to look elsewhere as Jones Moving & Storage does really terrible work. read more

They were AWFUL. And several items I stored with them were STOLEN! Do everything to avoid using them! I used them because RISD recommended it but after storing with them for the summer I was missing several very expensive items. My son is now a sophomore at RISD in Providence. He was supposed to arrange for his move out from his dorm room at the end of his freshman year, but as a typical 18-year old, he "forgot", so we found ourselves at the very last minute trying to arrange services during a very hectic time. Jones Storage was there for us and made things very easy, both moving Noah out of his old dorm and then moving him back for his sophomore year. I feel like I'm reviewing a totally different company. I have stored the contents of my daughters 1 bedroom apartment at Jones for 18 months after my daughter took a short transfer from her company from her job in Providence. At the beginning they picked up her stuff at the designated time and delivered it back to their warehouse within their pre estimate of the cost. The storage of the furniture and what not cost $75 a month, which I thought was more than fair. She transferred back to the area this time in Boston and once again their estimate was exactly the time it took. In addition we made the plans 1 week in advance, they called to confirm the day before and called my daughter the morning of the move once they had loaded the truck and were on their way. Couldn't ask for more. So glad I happened on the other reviews when we were moving out of storage, the agita was certainly not warranted and now it looks like they dealt with a company in Bizarro world. Jones was friendly, yes, but there were unexpected costs. I ended up paying almost twice the amount that I had thought I would be paying (even expecting to be overcharged). It would have been better if they told me the honest amount I would be paying upfront and I still would have worked with them. They also kept mentioning that they were nice enough to give me a discount of maybe 30 dollars total. They weren't horrible or anything but I will probably not be moving with Jones again. read more

I highly recommend Jones Moving & Storage! I move a lot, and I've worked with several different moving companies and had a few not-so-great experiences, but Jones was one of the best. I had crates shipped from California with the contents of my one-bedroom apartment. Jones accepted the crates, unloaded them at their facility, and delivered them. The experience was stress free and easy every step of the way. Mike, my contact at Jones, provided excellent communication. The delivery team (Greg, Al, and Andrew) were top notch. Greg was patient with my requests about placement of the items, and was incredibly helpful in giving tips about how my furniture should be stored. Everyone seemed to be in good spirits despite the 90 degree heat. Not a single item was damaged in any way, even the breakables in boxes that I packed myself. I can't say this for ANY of my previous moves! Moreover, they were FAST and efficient. I plan to use Jones again in a year or so for my next move. Thanks, guys! read more
