I contacted Barbara and other Conlon/United representatives for weeks via phone and email about this issue. They've denied our many requests, and said they didn't promise an enclosed vehicle , which is an outright lie, because they are swindlers. Mike came to our home and we discussed and confirmed that our car would come enclosed and that the associated fee would be an additional $1000. I usually hate moving but Conlon made it fun. Seriously. Anthony and Bobby not only worked super quickly (we did a local move so the rate was hourly) but they made us laugh the entire time and were really great company during a stressful situation. Might I also add that I made the moving appointment 3 DAYS IN ADVANCE. I cannot believe how accommodating they are. On top of that, I told them we only had 6 large furniture items to move because I anticipated moving out every other small item ourselves to save money BUT ended up having about 60 smaller items for them to move and they did it without hesitation. Admittedly, this review is a bit dated as we used United when moving a few years back, but as I was considering a new move, my one thought was NOT CONLON. Perhaps they have improved since, but I do not want to take that chance. Conlon handled the unpacking on this end - not good. They broke a leg on a tall dresser, but instead of telling us, just leaned it against the wall, placing the leg on top of the dresser. They left a bed in pieces and the mattress still wrapped. Some other furniture was scratched and some items were broken - I understand this happens, but tell us. We had insurance...just be up front. The guys who were unloading were very unprofessional as well - I remember complaints about items we wanted put in the basement and them helping themselves to items in our house without asking. NOTE: We had a great experience with the United folks at the start (a different group), and when we had to make a claim for damages (like the broken leg), we had a decent experience with the main United folks too. read more

It's been just over a couple of years now since our move across the country. Unfortunately you start to notice things are missing long after your move. They created a check list for us but either left the items that they wanted to steal off the list or checked them off on delivery to try and show they were delivered. Communications with the driver were never returned. We will never use this company again or suggest it to anyone. I highly recommend moving yourself. Get people you trust. read more

I have used Conlon Moving twice for local moves and highly recommend them. Conlon's team -- Kevin, Bill and T.J. -- are professionals and handled our household items with extreme care. Let me start by saying that these gentlemen showed up at the exact time they said they would. There are not enough kind words to say how accommodating, patient, and friendly these gentlemen are. We have a vintage china cabinet with fragile glass and a glass curio cabinet which was gently wrapped and secured for the move. Even when I would tell them it was okay to take a short-cut in packing some of the household items, they insisted on packing it "the right way." The people that moved us packed all our stuff, stored it for 9 months and when it was delivered only one item was broken, which we got insurance. So everything worked out. Try your best to avoid this company! While everyone is very friendly and seemingly helpful too much can go wrong in the move, as I unfortunately experienced. Things are loaded into huge crates which are then taken in a truck to be stored somewhere. Another truck is used to take the crates to your destination, then they are stored again, loaded on yet another truck and finally delivered. All this produced in my case many furniture scratches but most importantly a broken teak bookcase. At the time of delivery many pictues were taken by the people who delivered it; I was told to store the broken bookcase so it could be inspected and to file a claim. I was also told to obtain a replacement estimate (the closest I could find was $475). I was subsequently sent a check for $18. because I was told I had opted for the lower insurance (60cents per pound). I did this because I was assured that this was sufficient since the containers were secure and well packed. Later the person who gave me this assurance denied that he had. To destroy a bookcase, require all kinds of information, and then be sent $18 (on a move costing thousands) is in my view totally unacceptable and unprofessional. I have moved many times and never had furniture totally destroyed. I was told I could take the matter to arbitration but never sent the forms and the company is well aware, as the New York Times reported, that arbitration is forced on consumers by most companies and the results virtually always favor the company. My advice: avoid the company if you can, otherwise take the highest insurance they give and hope for the best. read more

I have never done a large cross-country move before so I really have nothing to compare it to. But, all in all, things went fine. I think it is hard to expect that a move like that will ever feel outstanding, so overall, even with a few slight glitches, I was satisfied. My contact at Conlon (Barbara), who was assigned from my husband's employer, was great. She communicated well and in a very timely manner. She was clear in explaining the whole process and following up with me. No complaints on the Conlon end at all! The United driver (Wesley) was great, too, in his communication, politeness, and efficiency. The only slight hiccups were with some of the other workers involved. The packers were very good and thorough (more than expected) but the packing was not completely finished prior to the movers coming, so some stuff just started getting moved and loaded by the movers without the packers having handled them yet. This made me a little nervous and uneasy, but my stuff ended up being fine. However, I think I would have had more reservations if some of that stuff was more valuable. (The more important "inside" items were well taken care of and finished by the packers whereas the shed items were more thrown together and just put on the truck.) On the morning of arrival, one of the scheduled moving guys apparently did not show and they quickly substituted another worker who was clearly not up to speed on the professionalism of the driver and other mover. So, that made things a little slow and tense throughout the day. But, I do not want that to reflect on the driver and other mover who overcompensated for the gap in service and worked so hard and were very kind and determined to pick up the slack. Again, a big move like this was challenging on many levels, but Conlon did their part to try to make things go smoothly. In the end, my stuff got from point A to Point B without any major incident, so I presume that is a very good thing considering what could have potentially gone wrong. read more

RUN AWAY DO NOT WALK AWAY! The WORST long distance I have ever experienced. I moved from RI to FL at the end of June. It took an entire two weeks to receive my belongings at which point the 18 wheeler could not fit into the complex I moved. I warned the moving company in advance of this issue and still had to rectify it myself. I found the moving truck with Jose and Mike were sitting at Kohl's trying to figure out a solution. I loaded Jose into my car to find a uhaul where they could rent a truck and transfer my belongings (which I was told was already supposed to have taken place in Clearwater prior to the 18 wheeler coming). After obtaining the Uhaul a full two hours later the first trip contained SOMEONE ELSES BELONGINGS. The second trip now five hours from start time had 1/2 of my belongings. They were ALL broken, dinged, dented, and ruined. Every piece of furniture looked ruined. Every surface scratched. The second 1/2 was no better. the couches were ruined the TV's were not assembled. I purchased full replacement cost insurance and that has been a nightmare. Still after 4 months not resolved. My furniture is still ruined. RUN AWAY NOW! read more

We used Conlon for a residential move from RI to MD in July 2014. Because I had had a negative experience with a mover in the past, and the internet abounds with horror stories about movers, I approached finding a mover very cautiously. After asking around for recommendations, I contacted Conlon on the advice of a friend who worked for a large RI-based company that has been a commercial client of Conlon. I figured that a private corporation would be very unforgiving of poor service, so if Conlon had managed to maintain its relationship with this corporate client, it must by doing something right. I guess my instinct was right. Throughout our approximately two months of dealing with Conlon, which included (1) scheduling an initial in-home consultation, (2) completing the consultation, (3) obtaining a cost estimate, (4) setting up dates and timeframes for pick-up and delivery of our items, (5) obtaining supplies for our move, (6) packing up our items into boxes, (7) having those items picked up by Conlon and (8) having the items delivered to our new place--we had an outstanding experience. Mike completed the initial inspection quickly and provided us a maximum cost estimate, which included a certain number of boxes and related packing materials based on the number of rooms we were moving. His estimate of the weight of the items we planned to move was off by only about 100 pounds in the end, which we were later told is "excellent." After the in-home consultation, a customer relations specialist named JoAnne reached out to me to confirm our intent to move forward as clients, set up a pick-up date, and finalize the price of our move. As our primary point of contact from that point forward, she did a superlative job. For instance, she was very understanding when we had to postpone the date of our move. She also checked in with us regularly by phone, email, and snail mail until the move was complete to see if we needed anything and to inquire about our experience. When we stopped by the Conlon facility to pick up boxes, JoAnne was actually the person who greeted us, explained the difference between each type of box, and even gathered the boxes for us. Later, she confirmed the date and time the drivers would stop by our house to pick up our items, served as a liaison between us and the drivers, and followed up with us after pick-up and delivery to confirm that each went well. As it turned out, pick up and delivery went very well. The drivers, Billy and Jermaine, showed up within the timeframes promised, and completed both processes efficiently. They were also polite, but professional. For example, they explained the best way to pack certain items and offered to help with some of the packing and unpacking despite the fact that we had elected to do so ourselves in our contract. In the end, everything was picked up and returned to us in the same condition. In sum, I was pleased with Conlon's service from start to finish, and I owe my friend a beer! I have moved across country many, many times, and this was by far my best experience. I had to move quickly with little notice as the result of a flood and they handled everything in a completely fast, efficient and professional manner. The move was complicated with some stuff being moved across country, and other stuff being packed and stored with some additional stuff being delivered directly. Everyone was amazing from the person who organized it to the packers and the driver (who was phenomenal, kept me informed and delivered stuff even faster than expected) to the financial person. Everyone was completely responsive. They really could not have been better. I don't think I could have handled such a stressful experience without all their help. I am really grateful for how helpful, efficient and professional everyone was. I will definitely use them again. read more

From the beginning until this moment working with Conlon Moving and Storage, carriers for United, has been an absolute nightmare. Multiple estimates were given before a final estimate was finally provided. Items picked up at the point of origin were not wrapped before they were carried out of the house - we were told they would be wrapped before being placed into storage. Delivery day arrived and someone else's items were on the delivery truck. When our items were delivered the furniture was gouged, broken and generally just beat up. An heirloom cedar chests' finish was destroyed. I paid $150. each for three television boxes when only two televisions were packed in boxes. I sent a 'concern letter' (Conlon's terminology) which received no response, no apology, NOTHING except a confirmation email to say the Claim Form will be forwarded for processing. Claim processing has not been any better. A local company 'repaired' the furniture changing it's texture and coloring. The cedar chest is no longer the same color as well as the interior shelf was broken when returned. We continue to try and resolve these issues, as additional insurance was purchased, to no avail. I would NEVER recommend using Conlon Moving or United to anyone, ever. read more

I used this moving company recommended as a preferred vendor of Brown University and they recently moved me from Providence, Rhode Island to Los Angeles, CA. I was extremely disappointed by how they handled my things. I had packed everything myself and asked them not to repack anything. I was a mover when I was younger and in recent years an art handler. I know how to professionally pack and ship ones personal possessions, especially my own. they not only did not heed my request then they charged more then quoted for repacking everything and did a terrible repacking job. I have been here in LA a week and I am still finding things broken or mishandled. They lost my tools and shipped them to me from Iowa via FedEx. They stole my packing blankets claiming they were theirs. Then tried to get me to fill out a claim form for my stolen packing blankets. I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH NEVER USE THIS COMPANY. NEVER. NEVER USE CONLON OR UNITED. if you can go with any one else. they are terrible. they do not listen to women. they did a very bad job at repacking. read more
