I needed a few heavy things moved from Providence to Plainfield CT, and as you know, moving houses is always miserable. But the guys from DTRM made this move SO enjoyable. They were sweet, professional, and so, so kind. They even made friends with my dog so she wouldn't be as anxious. Everything was wrapped and packed very carefully, even things that I said could be just tossed in the truck. Absolutely nothing was damaged even a little and they went above and beyond when we got to my new house and helped me unload the POD I had gotten (aka they spent an hour unloading something that had taken me 2 weeks to pack by myself). I didn't get any other moving quotes because I love DTRM's mission so much, but I ended up paying way less than I had expected to. Absolutely amazing value and experience. 10/10 read more

This was the most horrible moving experience I've ever had, and the company's owner's (Trent) response afterward made an already awful experience even worse. The two movers arrived late, with one wearing crocs (he wore crocs for the entirety of the move). The first part of the move involved bringing belongings down from an air-conditioned storage building using an elevator and dollies, yet they still took numerous breaks, including a smoke break. I also saw them break one of my pieces of furniture, and when I pointed it out, they completely ignored me. Throughout the move, I repeatedly had to remind them to handle boxes carefully, including boxes clearly marked as fragile in bright red stickers. The situation became even worse when unloading my belongings into my apartment. What was estimated to be a three-hour job was now in its fifth hour, and the movers appeared so physically exhausted that they seemed unable to safely carry my belongings up the stairs. Instead, they were pushing and dragging items (including the fragile boxes) up the stairs. They continued taking multiple breaks, including another smoke break. One mover asked to use my bathroom twice, and after he used it, I found urine on the toilet seat and floor. The same mover was visibly hobbling and struggling physically, to the point that I was genuinely concerned about his safety on the stairs. A third person eventually came intermittently to help, and I ultimately had to help move my own belongings because otherwise I believe the job would have taken even longer. The next morning, while unpacking, I discovered that two of the boxes clearly labeled fragile, containing carefully and individually wrapped handmade ceramic artwork had been dropped or handled so roughly that approximately a dozen pieces were completely shattered. I also documented the furniture damage I had personally witnessed during the move. I estimate that the total damage amounted to around $1,000 dollars. I immediately contacted the owner, Trent, and provided detailed information about the damage. Initially, he told me that the matter was handled through U-Haul and that his company was not responsible. When I pointed out the Moving Help terms indicating that the moving company was responsible for damage caused during the move, he rejected my claims anyway, essentially arguing that his crew was trained to handle items carefully, despite my providing photos and videos showing the contrary. After weeks of emailing Trent, I have received no meaningful resolution, no offer of compensation, and, notably, not even an apology for the loss of belongings that were damaged through negligent handling. I was particularly disappointed because I had been excited to support this company because of its stated social mission. Instead, this experience left me questioning whether that mission is reflected in how workers and customers are actually treated. I was genuinely concerned for the movers' own safety and well-being given how physically exhausted and unprepared they appeared, and I was really disappointed that there has been no transparent or meaningful mechanism for addressing the resulting damage. I would strongly recommend considering these issues before hiring this company. For me, the damage to sentimental belongings was painful enough, the company's refusal to acknowledge what happened or offer a solution made the experience substantially worse. read more

Ryan and Hank from Down The Road Movers helped load a 15 feet rental truck with all our boxes and items from a 864 SF apartment in Providence. They were supposed to arrive at 8:00am, but due to traffic arrived at 8:30am. They brought their own dollies. Our apartment building has an elevator, but my apartment is a little ways from it. The movers took about 3 and 1/2 hours which I think they could have done it faster, but they did a good job in moving and packing the rental truck. None of the items were lost or damaged. Trent with Down The Road Movers was whom I communicated via e-mail and he was always very responsive. At the end of the job, he called me to inquire how the move went and informed me of the payment. All the things that went wrong: Timeliness (hours late), not packing carefully, and not giving credit/refund for items they destroyed. TV destroyed, end tables chipped, non- removable marks on leather furniture. They left quickly and then I saw the aftermath. Gaslighted, ignored, claimed they would contact their insurer...similar stories others have reported. Shame on them. It's so sad to see how they keep doing this to others. The movers were very nice and showed up on time but they were not professional movers. They did a good job moving everything but unfortunately did some serious damage to the stairwell of my building amounting to 675 dollars of damage to the walls and the stairs. When I contacted them to cover this cost they said it was too far from the move in date (about two weeks) and "couldn't prove" they had done the damage to the stairs. They gave me 220 dollars but I was left responsible for the almost 500 dollars left. This negated any saving I had from hiring them and now I wish I had hired professional movers. read more

These guys moved my mom from Providence to the coast- we were so nervous but they showed up timely, professional, without stress or concern and most importantly, with good vibes! I had a move at the end of May, and was super stressed about hiring movers because of how costly they can be and with how much stuff I have, not to mention a third floor walkup to second floor walkup. Genesis, Eddy and Josh were phenomenal. I had a 2nd floor move to a 3rd floor move (no elevators) and they each maintained an incredibly friendly demeanor despite the difficult move. I am never going to move without DTR again!!! They moved us from a fully furnished 2nd floor 3 bedroom with a double parlor to a 1st floor 2 bedroom within 3 1/2 hours. Even though on the morning of our planned date it started pouring rain, they still showed up in the uhaul on the exact time they said they would. They were the most affordable movers in the area, and I was shocked that this included the disassembly and reassembly of 2 ikea bed frames and a couch. I was so worried about taking apart my bed frames because one alone took me 8 hours to build and the wood is easily breakable, but they took both of them apart and put them back together within 45 minutes. It has been about 6 months and they are still perfectly holding. :) They also moved my 75 inch tv down multiple flights of stairs and there was not a single scratch. they made sure nothing was damaged in the rain, even my electronics. I constantly recommend them to our friends, and along with their mission for the community, you cannot get a better deal anywhere. They did all of this in one go, and not a single scratch on any of my things. As I said before, I will never move without them again. read more

Based on our particular experience, I'd say this a great moving company for those without a lot of expensive and delicate items. The movers were friendly, pleasant, upfront, hard-working, and willing to go above and beyond. They seem to be able to handle cross-state and large moves. The price was very 'competitive,' as is said. (Albeit, per post-pandemic inflation, which seems to have affected most things, moving costs have trebled!) Only thing is that the movers didn't seem especially experienced and well-versed in the ins and outs of logistics, or bring the kind of equipment--ample moving blankets and pads, straps, hand trucks, etc--that a high level moving company would, and therefore I'd be hesitant to entrust them with a move involving more than a small number of unwieldy, precious, must-not-scratch and must-not-dirty items. It's been 3 weeks since our move and we are still talking about how we couldn't have done it without Down The Road Movers. At the time of the move I was 6 months pregnant, we have a toddler and it would've been too difficult for my husband to move all of our things in his own. They were super accommodating and understanding. The dissemble and reassemble service was so crucial for us. wish I could give a good review for a company that claims to be community driven but unless you want the risk of your items being damaged and never being fixed spend the money to go with a reputable company. i hired this company back in June of 2023 and now I am out of a 2k tv because the movers broke my tv. now I understand mistakes happen so I informed the manager immediately while the movers were still unloading and was told an insurance claim would be filed, after being ignored for months in November I was told they thought this was handled even though I had sent hundreds of messages and calls. i was then informed an additional claim would be put in but both times no claim number could be provided. now we're in January 2024 and still being ignored. I have waited 6 months to leave any reviews and reach out to anyone to provide the company sufficient time to redeem themselves for this mistake. but due to the disregard of their clients I will never use this company again and will be taking this issue to a further level. so much for a COMMUNITY company. they are criminals and always will be. read more
