We were traveling to the sunny state of Florida and was looking for a place to stop and eat lunch. We wanted to find a local restaurant we cannot get where we live. We found this place, decided to try it, and we were glad we did. The food was plentiful (my kids split a calzone it was so large) and it was good. The service was excellent and friendly as well. I could eat their artichoke dip every single day! I have never had anything like it, no bar spinach artichoke dip can begin to compete with it. What makes it special you may ask....freshness!! Fresh peppers, artichokes, and I think there are some crunchy water chestnuts in there too. The pizza is also good, although I lean toward the pizza rolls. Something about the adorable shape makes them taste better and seem like they are better for you. The firesticks are a play on bread sticks, they are basted in buffalo sauce and served with marinara with melted goat cheese goodness on top. The homemade breads are delicious. The seeded multigrain is my favorite and not just because it comes with the artichoke dip. There is one with cranberries in it that is also a stand out. I have not met one of their deserts that I didn't like, but my favorite is the cinnamon roll. I have never had one like theirs, the roll is so flaky and buttery not super doughy or fluffy. Decided on Jonah's based on the Yelp reviews. If you're looking for something quintessentially unique, this is the place. The pizza as well as the service is very good. Also, their selections of beer on tap, for such a small place, was also very good - I had the Left Handed Milk Stout, on tap. Prices are inline with a local speciality pizza establishment. So it's not the place for cheap food, (as a matter of fact, it's all hand-made, pizza, desserts, etc.). You can even watch them make your dinner in the "brick and flames" oven through the big windows! read more

This place is a bit expensive. I really enjoyed the flavor of the crust. My one complaint is that a slice of pizza will flop/sag in your hand and that caused the toppings to fall off. Yeah I know I am being picky but when you are are shelling out big bucks for a pie, I want to eat it with my hands and not have it fall apart. Stopped in here for a quick dinner while in town. Had been told the pizza was good but pricey. Well both were true. The pizza was pretty good i just had a pep and cheese and a Greek salad. I think the price price of the pizza was fair considering it is a hand made and brick fired pizza. The salad on the other had was total rip off. First the pizza. The sauce was very good just the right balance of tomato and seasoning. The pizza crust was great the bottom was firm and edges had a little chewiness to them. Just the right amount of cheese. The pepperoni was well pepperoni nothing fancy but tasty. I would get this pizza any day. Now to the salad. A Greek salad it was not. Not going to bore you with details on a salad. Just going to give the facts. First for the price it was tiny...very tiny...there was a lot of brown lettuce in it. When i placed the order they didn't ask me what kind of dressing i wanted. Passing through town and wanted pizza. We decided to stop here and loved it! We ordered the pretzels as an appetizer and they were amazing. The marinara sauce it came with I think was homemade and really tasty. We got a simple pepperoni pizza and it was delicious. Super fluffy crust which is my favorite. They also had live entertainment while we were there which was great to listen to while we ate. Every place that go to, the first thing that I look at is the service. Which was absolutely wonderful! Since it was lunch, I had the pizza roll special. Where can you get 3 pizza rolls, salad and a drink for under $8. The best way to explain the pizza rolls is fresh. Great flavor, loved the flavor of the dough. Especially when you can dip in pizza sauce (which was very flavorful). Next time I'm in town, this will definitely be on my lists of places to stop and eat. If I wasn't so full, I'd try the deserts. It was disappointing, the reviews sounded good, but I found the staff to be nonchalant, I ordered the 3 cheeses grilled sandwich. It was very dry, the menu says that it is served with romaine lettuce and pickles, the lettuce was about 3 inches big , I just laughed. My husband had a pizza and that wasn't bad. I would not recommend this place, the seats in the booth we all cracked and unkept. read more

One of two restaurants I like in Forsyth. How lucky are they to have two really good restaurants in that small city. Anyway, we fell in love with the artichoke dip. It's not your typical overly creamy dip. It has very good size bits and pieces of artichoke. We went in on it so fast I didn't get a picture. Then we had the lasagna pizza. My gosh...that was the best pizza I've had in a long time. The crust was tasty and baked to perfection. I wanted some cake but a couple came by and got the rest of it. We took home a peanut butter something dessert. I wasn't in love with it. They had a mixed crowd of older, younger funky and something in between. About a month later when I had a business meeting in Macon I came in and got some sourdough to take home. It was awesome. Will def be back. read more

Interesting place. Not exactly an easy find, gps took me to a dirt lot, thankfully some of the locals were more then helpful and literally escorted me a block down the road and showed me where to find "the best pizza around". This did prove to be a true statement. I had the 10" Hawaiian pizza and it was wonderful, just the right size however a bit on the pricy side $12 w/o drink. If you're coming for the atmosphere, skip it! Small outdated and cramped, so we sat outside on a beautiful sunny evening and enjoyed the view of the well kept downtown Main Street. On our trip from Chicago to Florida we spent one night in Forsyth, Georgia and tried Jonah's on Johnston. We ordered a large pizza and breadsticks for our two hungry teenage boys, while my wife had a phazoni and I had a calzone. You are probably wondering what a "phazoni" is, it is a meatball sandwich served in their fresh baked bread. The meatballs were outstanding with a great flavor. Overall the portions were perfect. Everything was baked in the brick pizza oven. We all enjoyed the food and would recommend it to anyone coming to or passing through Forsyth. I really enjoyed their marinara sauce, especially if you like it with a hint of sweetness. The staff was helpful and courteous. They also serve pastries and Fair Trade Coffee in the morning. read more

Jonah's on Johnston has to be the best pizza place in Forsyth. Their brick-oven pizza creates a unique taste not common OTP. They have great combinations and it's a perfectly cosy lunch spot. Definitely sit outside when the weather is good. Service staff is generally friendly and helpful, and the restaurant is clean. I've been disappointed with pizza offerings around & have started making my own. I stick with "non traditional' ingredients that I don't find at the places nearby. I decided to try Jonah's on Johnston.They claim on their website of having "the best pizza you'll ever have". I've had some pretty good pizza in my day, some pretty great pizza too, but the BEST pizza, we'll see. It's a quick twenty minute drive up the freeway to exit 187. Lee Road takes you right into the middle of town called "The Square". Downtown Forsyth looks like Mayberry with shops and restaurants scattered about. Why there is even the quintessential clock tower.There on the corner of Johnston and Kimball sits Jonah's on Johnston. Not quite on the "Square" but right off of it, across from Floyd's, make that the City Barber Shop (complete with barber pole out front). I had to raise an eyebrow to their lofty claims of the "Best Pizza Ever". Not one who is quick to judge, I thought I would let the pie convince me. The first thing I noticed about the place was the covered patio seating out front. with colored lights strung underneath the awning. A good place to sit and have a bite once the weather cools. The heat apparently didn't stop a few folks from dining al fresco.There were a few young family types,an elderly couple and quite a few dads picking up dinner on their way home from work.Jonah's is a step up to the counter kind of place. The folks behind the counter could tell we had never been there before. The lip-ringed "kid" with the partially buzzed hair actually mentioned it had to be our first time since he didn't recognize us.I gave him a mental point for knowing the customers. He handed us menus and told us to have a seat where ever we liked. We sat at a table facing the large glass window where you see a large wood burning pizza oven and everything being made, pizzas being tossed and peppers being roasted. There is something reassuring and comforting watching one's meal be prepared.The menu was loaded with options and variety. Appetizers, pizzas, calzones, phazonis salads, sandwiches and desserts. Sauces caught my eye, red, white, green and blush. Blush, a novel idea indeed! Genius really, a combination of red and white (duh) that isn't as sweet as red and much more garlicky. The "kid" approached our table & took our drink order as we looked over the menu. Normally you order your drinks at the counter, but we did not know this. Jonah's offers a variety of domestic and imported beers & wine. When I asked what kind of wine they served I was told red & white. Not exactly the answer I was looking for, but it did make me laugh. Kid told me that the bottles were on the shelf behind the counter. I turned to check out the labels & laughed even harder. The wine bottles had stickers covering their labels.Those "Hello, my name is..." ( 2 buck Chuck) that you get at conferences. They were marked Pinot, Chard, and White Zin. This is not the type of place that an oenophile goes to partake of the grape, but if you don't mind a glass of regular table wine, you're in luck. We opted for a bucket of beer. Being unfamiliar to the menu, it took some time to decide. The Specialty Pizzas read like a Who's Who to us. There is also the option of ordering regular pizza.All pizzas come in three sizes to choose from. An 8", 14" and 16" with Basic & "Deluxe Toppings. We started with the Artichoke dip and toast points appetizer.The dip was full of chunky pieces of artichoke hearts, roasted chunks of red and orange bell pepper. Then came California & the Rhode Island Red pizzas & the steak and mushroom Phazoni. The phazoni was a cross between a calzone, Philly cheese steak, & gyro. Made with pizza dough wrapped around piles of thinly sliced steak, sauteed mushrooms, onion, provelone cheese & "feta sauce" baked til it was melty. It was pretty incredible with the feta sauce adding just the right amount of tanginess. The Rhode Island was a combination of creamy ricotta & cheeses,big chunks of grilled chicken breast & roasted red peppers. These did not come from a jar either. They were succulent, sweet with a hint of smokey flavor that only fresh roasted peppers have. The California was laden with fresh pesto, sundried tomatoes and loads of goat cheese. The flavors all combined nicely. This was a pizza any pie-o-phile would love. There were 2 dessert options,Peach Cobbler or a Double Chocolate Mousse Cake. Like in any good smack down, chocolate came out on top. It was rich & sweet & gone in no time. As we walked out of Jonah's, I was glad for my forethought to wear loose fitting shorts. What a cute little spot in Forsyth, GA--a town I am often forced to visit. Anyone who knows Forsyth knows that there ain't much there. And there is definitely very little in the way of good food (Grits Cafe being the only other exception). That's what makes Jonah's such a great addition to "the square."
