My daughter and I long ago admired someone's curls in a restaurant and she told us she has been coming here for years, Stephanie does her hair. My daughter immediately made an appointment. At the time I had not yet embraced my curls, which has recently changed. Stephanie evaluated my hair, then I went to the washing station. Massage chairs and massage hair washing. Stephanie cut my hair and used Quidad products. She showed me how to properly use the products. Put me under the dryer so she could see how my hair dried. Wow! I love Jon Lori Salon even more each time I go! I moved to the Jersey Shore from North Jersey about a year ago and received a really nice welcome letter from the salon owner. I decided to give them a shot after reading such great online reviews. I had high expectations because I loved my prior hair dresser. I walked in and they had me at "Hello!" They were so friendly and inviting from the moment I entered. I didn't feel at all uncomfortable, like in some aloof salons. They then introduced me to Dustin, who was very friendly and he did an excellent job conditioning, cutting and styling my hair. I let my hair go...I know. When I was a corporate girl, nails done every two weeks and the hair cut every six. Things happen, you get laid off and the budget starts to matter. You take a job sailing (Did I wash my hair that month?) and then open your own small business, the last thing you think about is YOU.. I found Jon Lori on Craigslist. Yep, you read right. The folks in NJ are so wary of the CL..shop around for deals. Do your research and don't be naive. I made my appt on a Thursday and was able to get in the following Tuesday. I felt like I walked into the salon like a bat out of hell (with one messy mop). I had meetings in the city all morning and was running a tad late. Gave them a ring regarding my tardiness, the receptionist, also a pleasure, said "no problem, Jilly, see you in a bit!" Being addressed by someone who uses your name in the conversation you really don't know is an sincere treat these days!! My stylist Stephanie was awesome! I guess I had that typical pre-conceived notion that the salon (for its location) was going to be nose up. Never once did it feel this way. Steph was so down to earth and extremely knowledgeable. I let her make the calls which weren't major by any means. A color glaze and a much needed hair cut later, I felt like the Beck girl when I left. And my hair, 3 weeks later is still thanking Stephanie. I stopped using junking products for which she advised and backed away from washing every day. So, to conclude, 5 stars to Steph, her family ( mom & dad are Jon and Lori) and the staff for making a drowned rat feel like a million bucks!! Hope to be back soon! read more

Have been there 2 times and both times, I didnt love my experience. The stylist was fine but rushed through my color. Then when checking out, I was told no credit cards and then when I told them I wish someone was clear regarding their policy when I booked my appointment, they said "oh well..its the policy sorry". The made an exception and took my credit card, but made me feel bad about it and told me that only this one time would they make an exception. I think there are way better salons in the area to visit and was not impressed by this "stuffy" salon. read more

Be careful regarding tacked on costs for services you did not request. While my color and cut was extremely well done, I was charged for a service that I did not request. I also left without getting a blowout, not realizing that the blowout was included in the cost of the cut. I wish my stylist had told me that she was going to be putting something on my hair that was going to cost me an additional $60-$80 and that the blowout was included so I might as well receive it. Had I been made aware that I would be receiving an additional service for an additional cost I would have said no. I am happy with the way my hair looks but I feel deceived and never would have gotten my hair done if I knew I would be spending $80 more than I was intending. read more

I have been going to Jon Lori for years. Where they set themselves apart is their amazing customer service and compassion. My mother, who has Alzheimer's Disease and I would come to get our hair done by Pam. From the moment we walked in the door, everyone made a fuss over my mother and made her feel at home. Even when she would wander, the staff would never make her feel anything but at home. Recently, my husband died and I desperately needed my hair done--it was the day before Christmas Eve and I knew it would be near impossible. By some incredible circumstance, Giovanna had a last minute cancellation. When she heard about my circumstance, she made it her business to take care of me and not only cut and style my hair, which the appointment had been for, but quickly provided a much-needed color for my recently acquired greys. Giovanna had never met me before! She was a bright spot in an otherwise horrible day. The compassion comes from the top--Jon and Lori and their entire family--children and staff, could not be kinder. By the way, there does not exist the crazy client hording that other salons allow. If your regular person is not available, you can make an appointment with anyone who is, without any hard feelings. First got my hair blown out here and the girl did a great job even on my thick wavy hair. I was in the market for a new hairdresser so decided to get my hair cut there next time. The girl used thinning shears ALL over my hair- had I known the damage this would have caused I would have stopped her immediately!!! Ever since that haircut which was over a year ago my hair has been horrible from the million layers put in by the thinning shears. I had hairs poking out in every direction- needless to say I wore my hair up mostly. When I went to a different salon not only could they see my problem, but they also told me one side of my hair was longer than the other- great! Took about a year to get my hair back to normal and now I know to stay very far from thinning shears. It's too bad- the salon seems very professional and the blow out was nice, but $70- something to get my hair hacked? No thanks. read more

I used a Yelp deal to get my hair colored by Karen. She is phenomenal. Not only did she do a great job on my coloring and explain every step of the process, but when I came back because the color washed out kinda bright for my taste, she toned it down for free. The staff is very friendly and they will give you water, coffee, snacks while you wait, and give you magazines to read if you forgot to pick one up.The only con is that it's a little pricey but you get what you pay for in hair care, customer service, and atmosphere. read more

This salon has been here a long time with a big following, But they let me down for my son's wedding. I'm from out of town and Jon Lori was recommended for hair and makeup. I scheduled a trial run for hair on Thurs night 10/6/16 for the rehearsal dinner, and stephanie was enthusiastic, recommended a curly blowout, and it was great. Sat morning 10/8 at 9, the day of the wedding, this young lady was definitely distracted. She was so subdued compared to Thurs night. She started to work on my hair dry. I had to remind her that my hair was to be washed. The stylist next to her was watching, a bit concerned and suggested adding oil for some shine. The blowout was ordinary, nothing like the trial run -- and it looked it in the wedding pictures. Makeup was a total disaster. I have my makeup done often for TV so I know what good is. I have no crepe or lines in my face but by the time this artist finished adding layers of makeup,and powder I was full of lines and crevices. That she thought this looked good was shocking. She agreed it was too much powder, sponged it off, and my skin was smooth again, but I didn't have the polished makeup artist look I'd hoped to have. She then repeated it with my sister giving her ruddy complexion a hearty dose of blush. Close to $300 without a trace of glamour. I have lots of pictures to remind me! read more

I have difficult, coarse thick hair and she always brings out the best in it, keeps me styled and colored appropriately for my age, the times and my hair.
