In my first year or so of keeping my hair at a pixie cut length, which requires a haircut every 5 weeks, no one has cut my hair as well as Sarah. Even better than the first time I cut all of it off, which was at a fancy Boston salon for $80. Sarah does a PERFECT cut and style for a reasonable price (I think she was promoted to $52 recently). If you refer friends to her or any of the stylists, both you and the friend get $25 off. Plan to book a week in advance with her, I'm not the only one who likes Sarah! A feminine pixie cut is not easy. One wrong snip and it shows, as I've had some really terrible cuts elsewhere. But I think if a salon/stylist can make it this flawless, it shows how high quality their service is across many hairstyles. I saw people with all sorts of hairdos in that salon and it's always busy, which is a good sign!

Teresa V. and the Vanity 18 Hair Studio staff are AS GOOD AS IT GETS!…read more Let me just say that I stopped using Vanity 18 for a couple of years because I'd decided that it was too far to drive (from Long Branch). Instead, I started using a place in Asbury but realized a few weeks ago that, although the new place was good with color, there was no "human connection," it was very expensive, and I'd get bounced around on occasion from my original stylist (with no advanced notice). Parking in Asbury is also becoming a nightmare. Anyway, my last visit was way overpriced for only a few highlights and a root touch-up (no blow-dry or anything), so I decided to go back to Vanity 18 as it is only 10-15 minutes farther down Main Street . . . and I actually missed Teresa. Very smart move! I returned to Vanity 18 only to discover that they now have a 10-minute hair color treatment, which is AWESOME, not to mention that Teresa did the best highlight job (with a few lowlights for effect) that I've have ever had (no joke), and for much less than the Asbury place. (Also, Annette works miracles with "senior" hair; you'd have to see it to believe it!) Wait, it gets better: New(ish) Saturday summer hours are from 6 A.M. till 12 P.M. (noon). I don't know about you, but I have no interest in driving in shore traffic to get my hair done on a Saturday. That fact that Teresa accommodates "locals" needs no embellishing; she clearly considers her clients. (And she clearly considers others who are not her clients with much charity, which makes me even happier to patronize her shop.) So, basically, between that and the 10-minute color, I can rightfully be FINISHED with my hair appointment by 9 A.M. on a Saturday. Are you kidding? Sign me up! Oh, and guess what else? I was there for a 7:15 A.M. root touch-up this past weekend, and she treated me to a breakfast sandwich (they were ordering out)! (Coffee is always free.) Anyway, I could go on and on about many other "extras" that she has done, but I think I've made my point. I am sorry I ever left, but it was a good lesson learned, and I am elated to be back. I was quickly taken to the back by my stylist where we discussed what we would do with my hair. Genevieve was wonderful! My hair was a mess when I went in (ombrè with pink and purple streaks) and she was sweet and willing to work with me. She was also very knowledgeable on the products she was using and answered all the questions I had about what she was using. I chose a merlot red color for my hair and after coloring it the bottom portion of my hair came out lighter than I wanted it to be (Due to my previous ombré). Genevieve was great and threw another layer of color on which in the end came out beautiful. I loved that she made a conscious effort to give me exactly what I had asked for. I have been to so many salons where stylists pretend like they don't notice color mistakes. Sometimes it doesn't come out right the first time, by no fault of the stylist but I loved how she corrected it. As for the salon itself, the place is beautiful. Very well kept and clean. They use Redken products which is right up there with some of my favorite products. The shampoo girl was AMAZING ! I'm sorry I forgot your name! She gave me a great head massage when washing and conditioning my hair. I was offered drinks (water,coffee,etc.) many times. Loved how comfortable it was being there. My hair is over boxed dyed brittle frail and I needed a fix and to look like a star. I asked Brielle if she does magic and she laughed... Brielle is sweet, smart and a perfectionist. I am a colorist who had to do her own color through Covid. My boyfriend thought it would make a nice anniversary gift to get my hair "color corrected" by calling and making an appointment for "just a few foils on the top". Mind you, I have the head of hair that people have said no. It's just too thick. Jay somehow ended up with me booked as his last client of the evening - he didn't fret whatsoever even tho both him and I (as a colorist) knew this was going to take some time! He never gave me an attitude about my hair being thick and doing a FULL HEAD OF HIGHLIGHTS plus whatever other magic he did. This is the ONE TIME I DID NOT have to worry and even tho it took quite some time, He never got an attitude, and he was thorough. I should've reviewed the first and second time I went in. However I did go back for a blowout and left with hair I am obsessed with - for the holiday weekend! So I will put pics of after the first session at the salon and then 2 days ago when I went in for a blowout! Thank you so much Jay and Lisa! First time here yet never coming again…read more I asked for ash brown LOW lights. The hairstylist did not know what those were yet proceeded anyways to bleach my very dark black hair into WHITEblonde via bleach for over an hour. I didn't say anything because I haven't gotten any sort of bleach in years so I decided to trust the "professional", boy was that a mistake. After 3 hours I had silver gray strips and was asked if I liked it. I politely told her that I did not and it was not what I asked for and if she could make it ash brown. She proceeded to smile and stare at me like I was stupid and told me that the photo i showed her looked like my hair. It in fact did not. I again calmly explained to her for the 5th time I wanted my hair to be ash brown. This is a very specific and widely recognized color in the hair dye industry. I continued to explain what ash brown was, a light cool toned brown, kind of like milk tea. She then went to the back and put dye in my hair. I did not know what color it was but I was hoping it was the color I asked for. It was in fact not. I asked after she put it on and she told me it was medium blonde??? Cherry on top, she told me it was the same color she had in her hair!! Oh wow. I again did not say anything because I had been there for so long I just wanted to go home. She continued to say that what I asked for was not what I "truly wanted"and I didn't "know what I want" because she said I suit the warm tone better. I in fact look horrible in warm tones, I wear silver jewelry and am a deep winter complexion. I think she thinks I must look in warm tones because that's what she look better in I guess idk. As a person of color, do not come here, my Asian hair is now completely damaged and I spent $235 on fried hair that I am not happy with, wasting 3 1/2 hours of my time. I still left a decent tip and paid all that money but now regret being so polite about it. This is my first time writing a review ever but I am so upset, I had to say something atleast so others will not make the same mistake. I regret ever walking foot into this building.

She was right on time (I needed more time to drink my wine!) I have very thin hair that I actively work to keep from falling out. Tara gave me a great cut that looks good on me and works for my hair type. I can't say how hard it can be to find someone who understands thin hair but Tara did. I get the impression that she likes to keep up on all sorts of continuing education and likely has a good hand on lots of hairs. For you curly haired girls, she has naturally curly hair so she probably understands curly hair too! So, after my great cut she didn't have a product I was looking to purchase. So, she immediately said she would order it and still honor the new client 20% off. She did NOT recommend a ton of expensive products that don't work on thin hair as soon many stylists do. They do NOT accept tips on your credit card so be sure to bring cash. GREAT experience. This is my new place, for sure!

The girls at the desk were very friendly and nice with checking in. The inside looked clean, and organized. What threw me off was when the girl who started doing my hair had someone else belong I guess they have assistants now to help with hair ? Usually when I've gotten my hair down the last it was only one stylist doing my hair but here there's helpers so it's not just the hair stylist . Little confusing when it came time to tip because it's basically an extra person I didn't plan on tipping . The end trust of my hair was definitely how k wanted so no complaints ! They didn't a good job and the best part was being in and not with an hour even with highlights , cut and blowout .
