I can't believe I forgot to write a review here! I have been here 3 or 4 consecutive times (which is very frequent for me) to see Sarah. In my first year or so of keeping my hair at a pixie cut length, which requires a haircut every 5 weeks, no one has cut my hair as well as Sarah. Even better than the first time I cut all of it off, which was at a fancy Boston salon for $80. Sarah does a PERFECT cut and style for a reasonable price (I think she was promoted to $52 recently). If you refer friends to her or any of the stylists, both you and the friend get $25 off. Plan to book a week in advance with her, I'm not the only one who likes Sarah! A feminine pixie cut is not easy. One wrong snip and it shows, as I've had some really terrible cuts elsewhere. But I think if a salon/stylist can make it this flawless, it shows how high quality their service is across many hairstyles. I saw people with all sorts of hairdos in that salon and it's always busy, which is a good sign! read more

This salon is top notch. Everyone is so friendly, the salon is clean, chic, and welcoming . Gabby is the absolute best and she is the only one i've trusted to do my hair for the last few years, I followed her here to evolution. I came in to do a single process, glaze, haircut, and Deep conditioning and she exceeded my expectations beyond belief. Gabby has hands of gold. I leave her feeling beautiful and rejuvenated. My hair Is shiny, hydrated, silky, and the color comes out to perfection. On a side note her hands are magical when she shampoos my hair and does a massage. Because the AtlantIc Highlands location doesn't have their own yelp page set up, I guess I'll write my experience here. I'm really sad in the service that I got on Friday the 31st, 2020. I went to see Jenna because her Instagram looked good and was the best distance wise. I figured all I needed was my roots done, nothing too crazy that requires a ton of dimensional work. She was 17 minutes late to my appointment, and ended up rushing me in the end. The color is okay, the tinder made me feel muddy. I feel like the platinum blonde I had before, is now muddy and ash looking. And I overheard her mixing different volumes for my hair to rush my hair. And I ended up getting rushed at the very end of the appt. I asked for a trim of my side bangs so they weren't hanging off my face, and she gave me the most uneven bangs ever. That's what I'm beyond upset about. For now I guess Shrewsbury will be getting a poor rating for another stylists rushed job. And I'll be including photos. THE REASON I didn't realize they were uneven is because she parted my hair at the end, and I didn't realize because my eyes were closed (because of her cutting then immediately styling to the side) This stings because I'm getting my engagement photos taken this month and I never wanted actual bangs. I hope the owner reads this, speaks to the stylist and lets her know what the reality of the appointment was. And I just want it resolved on my end. read more

Tara P. Is the absolute best. I have been going to her for years. I had never colored my hair before and tried another salon first - which turned out to be an absolute disaster. It was not blended and streaky looking. I knew Tara from my place of work and after chatting with her, decided to face my color trauma and go to her. Tara being the absolute gem she is listened to me, showed me color options that would work best with my natural color and level of preferred maintenance, and explained the whole process. My hair finally looked the way I had wanted it to originally. Fast-forward about 5-6 years later...I still go to Tara and only trust her with my hair. I moved up to North Jersey and work in NYC and still make the trip down to Eatontown to see her because she's the absolute best and one of the kindest people I know. She has produced so many masterpieces in the time I have been with her - from my wild requests (like shaving an undercut) to different lengths and colors. I trust her completely to work her magic. It's hard to find someone so talented, kind, and who can actually carry a conversation while cutting your hair! Love love love her and I highly recommend! I would like to start off by saying that I am writing this review with a very heavy heart. This is my first time ever writing a review. I live in a small town and this has been my whole family's salon for as long as we lived here. We used to go to this salon before current owners took over. Whenever I go there, receptionists always joke around that this place is my husband's second home. I also drive by this place every day. My regular stylist is taking some time off with a newborn and I booked an appointment with a new stylist. New stylist was friendly but extremely rough. She yanked my head back and forth while doing foil. After the wash she was literally ripping my hair out with a comb by holding it in ponytail and just ripping it. Her idea of blow drying was her on one side and her assistant on my other side both just blowing my hair at the same time. I asked her to stop and ended up leaving with wet hair. After my next wash at home, it was almost impossible to through comb my hair. My hair is dry and straw-like. I have chemical layers. My hair on the right side is shorter than the left from breaking off. I have not styled it in fear of losing more. Also... please see my pictures of the "professional" cut my stylist gave me. I do admit, it took me almost a month to complain. I texted the pictures to my stylist and asked for my money back. She never answered and instead I received a phone call from Kenneth, the owner. His position was that my hair color on pictures do not match the color combination they used on me and my uneven ends were just the way I "combed them for a picture." He did offer to take a look at my hair and try to fix it. However, I am traumatized and do not trust a stranger to touch my hair again. There was no way Kenneth was going to refund my money and we could not come to a solution. When I told Kenneth that I will probably leave a review, he turned aggravated and he accused me of being "threatening." On the phone, he said that he is recording the phone call, then proceeded to cancel my daughter's upcoming appointment AND also banned my entire family from his salon. This review is for Chelsea at the Eatontown location. I came in wanting a specific balayage on naturally dark brown hair. First, the consultation was great and she answered all of my questions. Then came time for the appointment. She was so detail oriented and really took her time with my hair, which I appreciated so much. I am a very dark brown almost black naturally and in one session they changed my hair into blonde. I had sat in the another salons chair for over 7 hours and needless to say my hair was horrible. It was stringy and dead and i could not even brush through it. I had to cut all my hair off. I started going to Nicole last april 2017 and since then she has transformed my hair. I started doing glazes and using the company purology which can be bought at the salon and my hair feels so soft and healthy. My daughter went to this salon and had an awful experience. The women who did her hair barely consulted with her before doing her hair and it came out awful. The color was brassy and orange and her hair was fried. She went back a second time to get it fixed and she left with it looking even worse. She reached out to the salon and they did offer her to come in again with another person she didn't want to risk it. She simply asked for a refund which the owner promised her. But he only promised it if she took her review down. That's shady first of all but she agreed to take it down after getting a refund which she never got. The owner was very condescending when talking to her. The salon as a whole was not very friendly. My daughter went to another salon and her hair now looks great but she's had to pay so much to color correct the damage from this salon and they didn't have to decency to even give her the refund they promised. Horrible Salon and horrible customer service. Go anywhere but here. They clearly don't care about making up for the damage they did and only care about protecting their image. I had a fantastic visit! *Eatontown location I went in 2 weeks ago..mind you I had come in with horrid pandemic hair. I had box bleached it several times....it was several shades of brass(it was a sad brassy rainbow). It was dry, shapeless, and up in a bun for months. They scheduled me with Sara Marie, a really sweet and funny young lady. She asked what I wanted, and explained the whole process, even gave me some options. She took her time and made sure I was comfortable with the process and that didn't feel rushed(I hate feeling rushed don't you?). Honestly, I was shocked how beautifully my hair turned out! She is a a hair Guru. I had depth again, and highlights and lowlights and it feels amazing. The cut suits my face and she managed to get all the damage and it still looks long. i never usually leave negative reviews but this salon was such a giant disappointment to me and i've been so miserable with my hair that i feel like i have to. i usually get my hair done at an expensive Red Bank salon and the results are predictably mediocre. so stupid me, i decided to switch it up with Evolution because of their good reviews and i seriously regret it. when you pay $300 for a head full of "blonde highlights", you would at least expect to get something decent. or expect to have your roots the same color as your ends. sigh. anyways, the whole process was super rushed, they obviously didn't leave the bleach on long enough and now my roots are ugly, warm brown color now the ends of my hair are more fried pale blonde than ever. great. every blonde's dream. ugly warm roots. so now i have to crawl back to my normal salon, explain this mess and beg them to fix my warm roots without frying my hair further. embarrassing. huge waste of money. if you don't know how to bleach hair / don't feel comfortable bleaching it to the color i want, just tell me so i can go somewhere else. now i have this mess to deal with and i feel like i just flushed $300+ down the toilet. i never should have come here. my usual place was actually LESS expensive and the results were much better. and i can't believe i paid $70 for a 60 second trim of my ends? oh my god. ridiculous! i'm telling everyone to avoid this place. read more

If you are over 50 years old, have fine hair, and ask for a specific hairstyle from Evolution Salon and request Kenneth then BEWARE! After waiting almost 5 weeks for my appointment, I experienced a TOTAL SHOCK. Upon my arrival, Kenneth began to insult me by sneering at my fine hair. I found it to be wildly inappropriate that he was so openly disdainful of a client's hair. He asked me what color I wanted, and I said to him the same shade I have now, a medium brown. At the time I also had a few lighter shades caused by exposure to the sun, which Kenneth did not hesitate to criticize. Kenneth did not like my brown hair color and was getting annoyed that I did not want some red in my hair. He became anxious and angry. As I attempted to explain to him the hairstyle I wanted, he interrupted me and yelled things such as: "Stop, I can't listen anymore to what you want!" "I never speak to my clients this much!" "You are telling me what you want, and I am the one that makes the decisions, not the client!" I was merely explaining what any new client would explain to a new stylist when you meet for the first time, but I was treated as if my preferences for my own hair were unreasonable. Perhaps most startling was when Kenneth began levying bizarre accusations at me. I relayed to him that I was unsatisfied with the work of my previous stylist in an effort to explain how I wanted him to cut my hair. He responded by saying, "You are just bad mouthing this other salon." BAD MOUTHING, WHAT??? I never said the name of the stylist or made a criticism of the salon outside of my displeasure with the way they cut bob styles (my usual hairstyle). Kenneth then unexpectedly and erratically exclaimed, "We are not a good match so please leave!" I was shocked and stunned as I held back tears of embarrassment. I could not believe how he spoke to me and that this conversation was all taking place in front of his intern colorist. I did nothing wrong during this consultation. I am over 50 years old and a very polite lady. Kenneth afforded me no respect as a customer or as a human being. After leaving the salon, I stood on the curb and cried over the way I was treated. I called one of my children and could not stop crying. This man was a bully. My adult children were so upset and angry of how this man treated me that they insisted I write this review. I can only hope that others are not treated the way I was and that Kenneth treats his future clients with the respect they deserve. Perhaps Kenneth was having a bad day or was under too much stress. Still, these factors do not justify his wildly unprofessional conduct. On a positive note, the next day I got an appointment with SCHWARTZ SALON in Red Bank. Mark gave me the BEST HAIRCUT. I've been going to Kenneth the owner for at least three years and have had a standing appointment for all of that time. He opened up a new salon in Monmouth Beach, closer to my home. My standing appointment is at 8:30 AM on Saturday. The last few times I went there, he was running about a half hour late. Instead of having one of his many assistants call me to tell me he's running late, he let's me sit and wait. This week, after waiting for 15 minutes, he had his assistant wash my hair and then let me sit waiting for him for another 15 minutes. When he finally came over to me and I asked him why he couldn't call and tell me he was running late, he said, "if you don't like it, take off my cape and leave?!! UNQUOTE! I don't know about you, but Ken is a talented hair cutter, but with an attitude like this, I'd look elsewhere for a new hair cutter. I think his success has gotten to him. Too bad!! read more

Never had my hair cut, but have had waxing done at this spa. I like the wax that they use however I was not to happy with the outcome. I believe she did not pull my skin tight enough and I wind up getting hurt, bruising (which happens), and in pain for about two months. They were very stuffy here, and I am going somewhere else now. Recently came here for the first time and I was so incredibly impressed with my outcome. Reavey was amazing. She listened and talked through with me what coloring would look best for my hair and skin tone. I didn't even show her a picture of what I was thinking and she seriously made it come to life. I am just so pleased with my hair color! My only complaints are I wish that the salon was more direct with pricing. I honestly had no idea what I was about to spend on my Hair coloring as it states "starts at $83". It would be nice to know in advance exactly what I should be expecting to spend.... or at least a closer price point. I also found the front desk service to be a little slacking but otherwise my experience was cheerful and pleasant. I do not know how this shrewsbury salon Evolution can get all these five stars. If I could give it a ZERO I Would! ! ! I wrote a Yelp review regarding my terrible experience with the owner Kenneth and stylist and several people commented back saying they had same awful experience. I must say it was comforting to know that it was not just me but I was sad to hear these people had to experience this awful humiliating experience too! I don't know how Mr Kenneth did it but somehow got my original Yelp review removed. So here goes folks about my experience. I had read about these wonderful reviews so thought I would give this place a try. I requested Kenneth and had to wait a month to have him cut and color my hair. Upon my arrival I found this place to be a training school for new hairdressers. (Unfortunately, Kenneth does not have good training skills. He begins his consultation with me along with one of his trainees.He had no intent to color my hair and was saying to this new hair assistant to listen and she would do my hair. I thought after waiting a month for him he is now throwing me to a trainee! So being polite middle aged lady that I am I decided to let him continue but I said I like my brown color as it is with No RED in it. He then starts to criticize my color how it has some lighter shades and I say this is from the sun . I like it with lighter browns thru it but not red. He starts getting mad and still pushing red on me. Then I say I just like my fine hair to be cut blunt and in a one length bob. I don't look well in short back with long side front bobs. Now he is really mad at me and says I don't know about hair only he knows what is best and since he doesn't agree with me then I should LEAVE NOW! I was so shocked and humiliated. I did nothing wrong this whole time. I just sat there as he criticized me and my hair that was thinning. I thought I was not hearing him right but I was! All I wanted was to get brown hair color with a blunt bob cut. As I left Thru my tears I noticed all the other Hair cuts that were blunt were all cut the way he wanted to do mine. As I left feeling embarrassed and humiliated and shaking with confusion and upset and the receptionist looking at me with compassion I thought this receptionist had seen this happen before. I also had my husband drop me off so Now I had no car and now left in this parking lot crying and confused as I am waiting for my ride home. Since I wrote this review others have commented saying they shared the same awfulexperience. This evolution Salon is not a salon for customers it is a hair salon for young hairstylists that are out of school and he is the master teacher. Unfortunately the girl he was training that day also seemed upset with his behavior. I don't know how he got my last review removed especially since I had many fans of other poor souls who were treated the same way. I will continue writing my review and incident about his salon until the day I die. This was the most degrading, upsetting experience I will never forget and I need to get this review out there for other victims. How this man can run several salons with such bad behavior and manners is beyond me. I pray that he gets help to correct this very bad behavior and it never happens to anyone else. read more

One word disappointing. I was so excited to get my hair done as I hadn't gotten it done in years and the results were worse than I could have imagined. Firstly, the stylist did not even introduce herself so I'm unsure of which one she even was (mid 30s, married, orange money pieces). Second of all, I asked for a blonde balayage which is an extremely popular style currently. I showed her a picture from instagram and she stated that she could do it. I asked for the "wow factor" - I wanted something extremely obvious which is the complete opposite of what I got. I have medium brown hair that has been dyed before but not for several years so my hair was completely untouched. The stylist rushed through the appt when it was supposed to be 2 hours and I was done about 65-75 minutes in. The color completely did not take at ALL and it looked like nothing was done to it. I was so upset. Clearly, she did not know how to do balayage and instead of knowing her limits tried anyways. All the other stylists were also unprofessional and were talking under their breaths about how terrible a job she did instead of offering assistance. They also tried to hype up my hair and convince me it was great to get me out of the salon and not ask for a redo. The stylist stated that I can come back in a few days for her to redo it as she clearly knew she did a terrible job. When I went back, she didn't even ask to see the picture again which I thought was suspicious but I was nervous and felt bad about having her redo it so I didn't say anything. She started again and took her time a little bit more. However, when she was almost done with the foils she stated she was doing a different technique called foilayaging which is not what I already paid for or asked for. She also ONLY did the top half of my hair. She did not touch the bottom when balayage is supposed to cover the majority of your hair. She didn't really give a reason why she did that when confronted. At this point I still had hope that she knew what she was doing somewhat but when she dried my hair again, the results were almost as disappointing as 2 days before. Now my hair appeared as if I used Sun In and sat in the sun for a few hours. Still very natural looking and NOT noticeable like I had asked. Overall, terrible experience 0/10 & will not recommend anyone. This was specifically Evolution Eatontown. read more

True artistry! I was referred to Cindy by a friend. I wish I went to her sooner! She is amaZing with both cut & especially blondes! Callin is amazing, my brows have never looked better and Christina does a wonderful facial!
