The service was just okay. The crab eggs Benedict was disappointing. I'm not sure that the English muffin was toasted at all. If it was toasted it was still quite stale. The small amount of crab included was good but there was not much at all. The eggs were alright while the hollandaise sauce was actually pretty good. The home fries were strange shaved potato instead of cubes. They were not very hot or well done but were much better than the English muffin. I wouldn't go back for breakfast. We tried to go for dinner a few nights before and it was an hour wait so it may be worth trying for dinner (or it's one of few options in the off season and that's why it was packed). read more

Hodgepodge of multiple buildings built by the loving hands of its owners, and has a unique charm! Others say that the Food tastes good but the place is dirty and run down. I will agree with the fact the Christmas ornaments may be a bit over the top but it gives the place a unique appeal, yes, its dirty, but the kind of dirty you'd expect for being in business for so long, being hit by countless hurricane's, and keeps some character. Id never expect a pirate to be in any other type of establishment! From the eclectic dust covered Christmas ornaments that hang from the tin foil covered ceiling to the old filling station floors mixed with the Halloween spiders hanging from the lamps, and countless pirate décor, it Shivers the timbers... If you have a problem with the atmosphere, then you're not the right type of person to be eating here, I'd suggest going back to olive garden and leaving the local eats to those who don't mind a bit of character, the people who work here, and the people who frequent here are very kind, and each one has their own story. The cookies they sell under the counter were awesome, bought 2 dozen various to bring for the 12-hour drive back home to Ohio. Pick yourself up some on your way out the door, they'll keep you smiling as long as your co-pilot doesn't eat all of your favorite ones without providing you a few! We had the 2-lobster special (Saturdays Lobster Feast: $29.95), Steamed 1/2 Pound of Crab legs ($11.99) and the Jolly's Delight (Crab cake with smoked gouda and bacon, surrounded by a base of grits and floating/sinking in an ocean of cheese!. The 1/2 lb of steamed Shrimp were huge and quite tasty, the lobsters were a religious experience that lasted more than an hour, and I could only wish for such a fare back home, they even made by request a garlic butter dipping sauce for the lobster that was out of this world. The garlic bread they serve you when you first get seated, we had 3 servings of, I could eat that all day, beats your traditional Italian "bread sticks and water" cliché, it's got some bite! The Drinks were Amazing and thank you for having us! We loved this place so much, that given everything is a gamble in the OBX, we came back the following night to dine again! This place is run by locals, owned by locals, and the staff are real humans! End result: Don't judge a book by its cover, this is truly a coveted treasure that begs to be read from beginning to end. This place has some Awesome, affordable Dinners in a fun atmosphere. The Waitress Zaya was super attentive, friendly, Helpful and remembers what you ordered before! Wont be returning next time we're in the area. It was so hot inside that it didn't seem they had any air conditioning, aside from a window unit near the hostess station. Apparently there was one because it was leaking condensation from the ceiling near our table. Being 7 months pregnant, it was quite unpleasant. As for the food, it wasn't good. My husband ordered the prime rib, which was very fatty and didn't taste great, and ended up with an upset stomach for the remainder of the evening and into the following morning. I ordered the fried flounder with a baked potato and cole slaw. Aside from the slaw, which was good, my food was really dry. I didn't even eat half of the fish because it. This place was recommended by our hotel receptionist. Decided to go for breakfast, early in the morning. We had a family of 7, we were seated immediately with no wait. Service was good. The coffee had a really good taste. I ordered the Jolly Sampler and the biscuit and gravy was jumbo and the baked apples were delicious. read more

Our waitress practically ignored us the whole time, we only got one refill. She made eye contact with me on multiple occasions and would not come over. Ended up getting just soup and appetizers because none of it really interested me. I've never had bad she crab soup but this trip changed that. It took almost 30 minutes for us to get just soup and appetizers.. and it was all cold. I am not one to complain but this was just the worst experience ever. I had high hopes and was severely let down. The soup was not only cold but just straight sickening. I got a baked potato and it came out cold, as well as our hush puppies and apples. I truly can't review for the food because we did not eat there but I have to say it's definitely not dog friendly. At least when they have live music. You have to to the upstairs bar area which is quite small and they had a live band which was quite loud and scared the crap out of our dog so we had to leave. We have been here once for breakfast and once for drinks. I was impressed both times! Let's start with breakfast: I ordered the "Joe's" Pancake Lasagna because I had never seen such a thing on a menu before. In case you are in the same boat, a pancake lasagna is Layers of pancake smothered in maple flavored bechamel sauce with bacon, sausage, cheese, eggs, and topped with cheddar cheese. Sounds intriguing, right?! Well, I suppose if you are someone who doesn't like their food touching, it might sound disgusting... but, I am a supporter of food touching and getting to know one another. And this dish was a great example of the best way to do that! The lasagna came out piping hot and with a healthy helping of gooey cheese on top and throughout. It is A LOT of food. I took half home and enjoyed it reheated the next morning. Now the drinks: Our friends recommended the Shipwreck, so that is what I ordered. And ordered again and again. It was delicious. And boy did it pack a punch! If you had told me there was no liquor in it, I would have believed you based on flavor alone. Not even a hint of all the rum they poured into it. And last but not least, I need to draw attention to the fact that the Jolly Roger lives up to its namesake. Pirate stuff everywhere! It is a fun place and definitely worth exploring. read more

Visited again june 2022, we had the displeasure of having the older black haired lady with black eyeliner as our waitress. What a rude nasty woman. She was short, kurt and condescending when she spoke to us. She walked past our table at one point complaining about another table saying outloud "good, dont come back". And the hostess was on the phone with a customer taking an order rling her eyes and flailing her arms because the customer was asking questions. Customer service is a big fat 0!!! I ordered the surf and turf....my steak was full of fat and the lobster tail was small...6 bites worth....just not at all worth the price tag. Very disappointing.....this used to be one of my favorite places to eat. Staff needs to be retrained or replaced and food pricing needs to be reevaluated. read more

Well yo ho ho and a bottle of rum. This place is Divey! It doesn't know whether it wants to be a pirate bar or a "I'm whacked outta my mind on LSD" bar. The decor is a mix of pirate ship and crazy uncle Dave on acid with a mix of psychedelic lights, posters and a random pirate flag or buccaneer thrown in the mix. The bartenders and staff are friendly and quick to get you a drink. The clientele though is a whole 'nother story. Like a mix of winners, losers, chain smokers and boozers. Even saw a few "transactions" in the parking lot if you know what I mean. All in all it's rough around the edges but a real good time and decent drinks. read more

I've never actually eaten here sad to say, but we always come a few times to the bar during our stay in OBX. It's always a fun time when we come here. We love to watch everyone sing Karaoke and sometimes we join in on the dancing. I do have one suggestion: it would be really cool if they could hook up a live view of the karaoke to the TV up on the balcony outside so people can enjoy the view and the entertainment at the same time! read more

I ate there for breakfast and it was so-so. But went back the next afternoon and sat at the bar. Had $1 draft beer, 25 cent steamed shrimp, 59 cent wings (many varieties to choose from), and 99 cent ribs. I had 30 shrimp and 3 beers for under 12 bucks-can beat that!!! The bartender was a bit on the slow side, but was pleasant and accommodating. I wouldn't go back for breakfast, but I would definitely recommend it for the shrimp read more

Most people visiting the coast want good seafood. I'd heard their advertisements on the radio and decided to give Jolly Roger a try. We were with another couple and everyone ordered seafood. Unfortunately the food did not live up to the advertisement. Everything was heavily breaded and deep fried, to the point I could barely taste the oysters and shrimp. A piece of fish was large enough, but tasted too fishy. When visiting the coast, I typically ask a "local" to recommend a good seafood restaurant. The service was great and the restaurant was very cute! I got biscuits and gravy with a mimosa (half off on Sundays) and the person I was with got eggs benedict with a coffee. The food was okay, but you could tell it had been sitting under the warmer. Made the gravy on my biscuits and the hollandaise sauce on his kind of gross. I don't know why it had sat under there for a long time because the restaurant wasn't that busy. We were here off season.
