I'm so happy that my friend introduced me to this place as they have the bestest pasta dishes ever! They also have really great poke when it's available, but I digress. I go when they are located on Cooke Street in Kakaako by the Imperial Plaza building. I also really appreciate that you can pre-order your food. If you don't pre-order, just be prepared to wait a bit (maybe 10-15 minutes) for your food. The price is a little bit more than I would normally spend for lunch (~$20) but that's ok as I don't usually finish it. Sometimes I can stretch it for 3 meals! The servings are generous and very flavorful. Everything tastes (and feels) fresh. I am a fan of the bolognese, bang bang, and the rattlesnake. I'm bummed they don't have their poke anymore. Honestly, those are the only things I've tried, but they are winnahs! I should try their other dishes! I think I will go get lunch from them the next time they are in town! read more

Attended the ewa night market specifically to try their smash burgers because I heard they were amazing and the best. Let me say it was amazing. It's double patty and comes with their famous sauce which went together to good. It's so filling but definitely not your everyday burger. Be warned though that you will have to wait unless you come early. It took about 30 min wait to order and then another 30 min wait for the food to be ready. He makes it in batches so there is a wait. The fries were ok, not a stand out to me. It is pricey at $18 for the burger and $24 with fries, so I wouldn't get it a lot but definitely a treat! read more

I wanted to try the smash burger because others have told me about it. I was finally able to try it one day at an event at wai Kai. The burger was really good. The line was crazy long which I understand why. Would I go again? Probably not. Don't get me wrong, it was good but not worth the wait and price. I did not even get close to being full.. I personally would rather get a full plate lunch that will fulfill my hunger. read more

I saw the food from this truck on IG and I knew I had to try it. I finally made it out the Farmer's Market to get a taste. Even though it was a bit early to eat pasta, I knew I had to try the breakfast carbonara. No regrets at all. I also got to try my friend's morning bruschetta, which is served with hash browns instead of bread (genius!). I loved both of these dishes; everything was so flavorful! I would definitely recommend the food here. It can be a bit heavy though for the morning, but if you can handle it or come a little later than I did, definitely go for it. There are a few more things on their menu that I want to try, so I'll definitely be back. read more

- [ ] Saw a posting for this on instagram as a "suggested for you" and was hooked. Conveniently enough they see going to be at a farmers market on Saturday which we would still be in town for. Our mistake at how ridiculously long we waited for this burger. About 1.5 hours in total. At the Saturday farmers market they are open from 8-12p but go early as they stop taking orders at 11a because of the wait. We waited in the hot sun for 30 minutes just to order and another 1 hour for our burger to be cooked. You can watch the cook right in front of you. Props to him because that's a hot sweaty job. They only cook about 10 burgers every 20 minutes and depending on how many burgers were ordered by the people ahead of you would determine how long your wait is. Each burger has 2 smash patties unless you add additional patties for $4. They have a system but they need another grill. We spent all day here waiting for just a burger and it really wasn't anything special. The Oklahoma burger was good, the onions gave great taste, the patties did have a good crust and the truffle not too overpowering but I did not find it worth wait. If we knew how long the wait was we wouldn't have stayed but we already ordered and spent $45 just on two burgers. We had to skip our other plans because of how long we spent waiting line. If you want to try the burger, plan for this to be half day exertion waiting for it. read more

Updated review! 5/2022! So I was planning on giving them another shot one day (today was the day). Thank you to the owners that reached out to me and offered a replacement, but that was ok, it wasn't needed! I really like to support small businesses so it was a little painful that I didn't like the fish and chips at the time. Today was redemption day! And they totally redeemed themselves. They were parked along cool street so it might be a little hard to find parking, but I got lucky when I circled the block for a second time. I ordered the cookies (since I knew it was good already) and the steak salad with the cheese on the side. The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly! It wasn't tough, chewy or salty. It was served alongside some egg salad and ranch. Not sure if the ranch was homemade but it was yummy! The steak salad was about 18$ and the cookie was 4$. Service was really friendly and the wait wasn't very long. ---------- I finally got to try the infamous Italian food truck that's all the rave in town. It's a very cute truck that's parked in Kakaako, ward, or at the hawaii Kai farmers market - you can't miss it! They had a fish and chips special ($18) for that week that I wanted to try, although it was very moist, I didn't receive any tartar sauce and the food was extremely salty. I also got the calamari ($8) which was also really salty. The ube afogato ($8) looked promising, but there was more ice cream than coffee which reminded me more of a milkshake than afogato. The cookies ($5) was defiantly the star of everything I got. Which is kind of unfortunate in a way lol. I had a lot of left over and re-heated the food and it kinda turned black. I was told it was because they use old oil?? It was kind of in-edible to be honest to reheat it in a air fryer. They also sell kimchi but the jar was sold out. I'm kinda glad it was, because I had a little sample with my fish. It wasn't anything to rave about. Overall, service was really great, the food is decent, and could be better if it wasn't so salty, and the prices are a bit high. Maybe I'll give it another shot another day and hopefully I find something other than cookies that I enjoy read more

Every time I go to the kakaako farmers market, I see the long lines for the smash burgers and think, what's the big deal?! I got to the market before they opened and the line wasn't bad so I figured it was time to give it a try. They have an extremely efficient process. The menu is small and 90% of the people order the standard burger (2 patties, cheese, onions and sauce), which is why they're efficient. Offering extras such as bacon or asking for no onions will increase your wait time. I was entranced watching the grilling process, which helps the time pass but you can smell like smoke if you're too close. The burger was juicy and flavorful and I wish I ate it right there rather than taking it home. The delay just made a little more of a mess and my car smelled like the burger. Definitely understand why there's always a line. It's worth the wait. I would strongly advise going early, like I did. The market opens at 8. Order your burger then shop, pick up something to drink from another vendor, etc. I have seen ridiculously long lines later in the day. read more

e in | Brunch | $10-20 I stumbled upon this gem by pure chance, I saw a long line at 9 AM at the Smash Burger line at the Kaka'ako Farmers Market on Saturday. The first thing I asked myself was, "do I really want to eat a hamburger at 9 AM in the morning?" After asking a couple of people in line the same question, they had an answer, they said it was THAT good. I was sold. My wife wanted us to split one hamburger but the others in line advised me against it. I am SO glad I listened. I have never had a hamburger that was so flavorful in my life. Their special sauce and the way they cook it, I am convinced, makes it taste so epic. I am vacationing from the Bay Area but I will definitely be back for another Smash Burger on my next visit. read more

After seeing so much about their famous smash burger I finally got up early enough to catch them at the farmer's market in Kakaako!! Literally their smash burger was everything I imagined it to be and better. Every time I saw this burger on social media I would crave it without even knowing what it tastes like and now I forreal crave it knowing how it is. Wow is all I can say. The truffle smash burger is heaven and I don't know what the white sauce on the burger is but if I'm correct it's a garlic mayo type. That garlic mayo on that burger has changed my life as well as the buttery bun it comes in. I got to the farmer's market around 7:30ish and went straight to find this booth. Thank god the line was short, I waited about 20 minutes max. I also got the animal fries which were really good too, it all came with a side of this orange spicy sauce, too spicy for me but my sister said it gave a great kick! Service was great, very quick and efficient! They really got their system down in taking orders and preparation! I will be back at the farmers market probably every weekend now, see you all there! read more

I'm gonna give my honest opinion/review. Wanted to come here cuz I see a lot of people hyping this place all over social media. Finally got the chance to go here one Saturday! Placed my order waited for about 30 mins for my order to come out. The burgers I would give it 2 stars out of 5. I honestly think I could make it at home. Maybe even better?!? The fries/animals fries is a solid zero. The cheese and beef was cold and tasted funky. The system there is a zero. The workers were running around like chicken with their heads off. Overall, prolly my 1st and last time here. The burger were alright but I wouldn't wait nor pay $18 for. Mahalo read more

Had them at the Pearl Country Club and thankfully they took our order early for pick up once the event started! There is everything right about this burger.. the smashburger Patties have a tender bite with crispy edges, a perfect amount of gooey cheese, caramelized onions to balance out the saltiness from the cheese, and truffle aioli which is truly the cherry on top. The bun is a simple bun which I actually love and reminded me of in n out. The orange sauce on the side is a reminder of la Vic's orange sauce in the Bay Area (if you know.. YOU KNOW). Personally, I can live without it on the burger as it overpowers the truffle flavor.. and we looooove truffle :) I hear that the line can get crazy, and I don't not believe it! This place is probably the best burger I've had on island! read more

Quote of the Day: What do you call a fake noodle? ~ an impasta! Here in Hawaii, just like mushrooms noodle restaurants are scattered everywhere. And sometimes they are in a food truck. My husband was the first one discovered this food truck while checking out the Farmer's Market at Kaka'ako. FOOD: Taro Gnocchi ($16 + tax), light & fluffy sweet potato & taro gnocchi with breakfast sausage, applewood smoked bacon, sun dried tomatoes, chives, totter tots & parmesan cheese, topped with a fried egg. Gnocchi is cooked good but just taste okay nothing fancy at all. Egg is cooked just the way I like. I am not disappointed but not impressed either. A bit pricey at the same time which I'm debating myself if what scale should I put on this one. DRINK: Italian Soda blackberry flavor ($5 + tax), oh boy, it was so refreshing. I enjoyed it so much! But their own food truck looks so fancy. Shining new & love that dramatic color & the simple elegant art they put on it. Well done! Other than that, it was a great customer service. The woman in the cashier is amiable & efficient. Should I come back again? Hmmmmm... cannot tell right now. We will see in the future. Mahalo for reading & happy juandering fellow Yeeps! read more

As we wandered around the Kaka'ako Farmers Market this past Saturday, we took their new location at 210 Ward Avenue. Along with more food stalls, we noticed familiar food trucks that we've supported previously. We quickly noticed the JOJA food truck that we've seen once parked on Ward Avenue in late January 2021, but we've been supporting them at their Cooke Street location during weekdays since they're near our home. The "carb monster" in us drew us to the slick black food truck to visit with its owners, Joslyn and Jason Lee. From what I understand, both owners have extensive restaurant experience and have even owned/operated restaurants in the San Francisco area. Luckily, the Lee Family sold their restaurant, built and invested in a brand-spanking-new food truck to pack up and move to Hawai'i. They chose Hawai'i since they'd visit annually and enjoyed our peoples and the climate. Joslyn is gregarious and efficiently runs the front of the house by taking the food orders, cashiering, and managing the distribution. Meanwhile, in the back of the house, Jason makes his restaurant-quality pasta dishes to order. I believe he makes the kinds of pasta and sauces from scratch. Their menu consists of light bites that range in price from $8 to $12, a couple of entrées with rice $17, five plates of pasta using fettuccine, rigatoni, or gnocchi paired with either cream-based, meat or meatless sauces $16 to $17, and a non-alcoholic beverage list. We tried their Fettuccine Shrimp that features six clean and perfectly cooked shelled shrimp, large chips of crisp applewood smoked bacon, and a generous portion of fresh fettuccine cooked in a roasted garlic white sauce. $17. This pasta is flavorful and may put you into a food coma. Lucky for us, we ate this for lunch and just relaxed for the rest of the day. The second dish that we ordered was the Rigatoni Pesto which was herbaceous, cheesy, and fresh tasting. I liked the balsamic vinegar reduction drizzle, which added a little sweetness to the herbs and cheese. The sauce oozed and clung to the nooks and crannies of the rigatoni tubes, and each bite was zesty. $16 In addition to their site at the Kaka'ako Farmers Market on Saturdays, you can find JOJA at the following locations. - Kaiser PTSA Farmers Market TUESDAY 4 pm to 6 pm - Near the corner of Cooke Street and Kapi'olani Blvd WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY 11:15 am to 2:30 pm - Kailua Farmers Market SUNDAY 8 am to 12 pm We're glad that we can still get our delicious pasta dishes from JOJA on Saturday here but know that there will be a crowd because JOJA's pasta plates are so tasty. Please allow yourself at least 15 minute wait time as Jason cooks your pasta to order. read more

I absolutely love their smash burgers with an extra patty! I love supporting a local family as well, JOJA are super nice and wonderful people. Their burgers are hands down one of, if not the best, on the island. I go to their food truck event in Waikele every time they are there and have never been disappointed with anything besides the line to order, its that good!!! I'm not a fan of the spicy sauce but they put it on the side so you don't have to have it on your burger, the garlic aioli is perfect (and I love hot/spicy food). Great people, great burger! Yum! Glad I finally got to try Joja! I got the truffle burger at the Kakaako farmers market. I was in line by 9:10 and got my burger around 9:45. I loved the flavors of the soba, prawn, and small tobiko with the kick of wasabl. This is my 2nd eating gnocchi from them and I loved flavors. I was searching on Yelp and came across this food truck but I  thought they were on Ward Ave but then realized they were on Cooke St. When I saw the words "We got  Noods" on the food truck, I thought they were affiliated with Noods Ramen but it's actually called JOJA and you can find them on Instagram under @joja.hawaii. I have guessed right that their company's name was a part of the couple's names "JO" for Jos or Joselyn and JA for Jason.   They used to have a restaurant on the mainland but they are now here in Hawaii operating from their food truck! They have been opened for only two weeks! You'll find them on M-F from 11:00am - 2:30pm on Cooke St on the side of the Imperial Plaza between Queen St. and Kapiolani Blvd.  Saturdays  from 11:30 am - 2:30 pm on Ward Avenue by the Ohana Hale Marketplace.    They also do the Kaiser Farmers Market on Tuesdays for dinner from 4pm - 7pm. They sell some sides, a desserts and mainly the Pastas (Noods-Noodles) ! As one reviewer said, restaurant quality from a food truck.  It's my first time here and  I was eyeing up Bam Bam pasta but I was bummed it had shrimps inside but she said I can have it without shrimps if I want.  She also suggested the Gnocchi Mushroom which was one of their specialty with House made Gnocchi in a creamy triple mushroom sauce with fresh basil drizzled with Balsamic reduction.  That's what I've decided on and it was rich and delicious with a lot of mushrooms. I love mushrooms and it was with house made Gnocchi!   The Triple Mushroom Cream sauce was good but sometimes cream sauce can be too rich for me to handle. Although I should have some veggies, so when I saw Tempura Broccoli ($7) , I was sold! lol.  it was good by it self or with the ginger aioli sauce provided.  The crispiness made the broccoli yummy.    I saw the dessert but forgot to get it.  Later on, I saw someone Yelp photo's comment that you can get the dessert with a Yelp's check in. I confirmed later with JOJA, it's not currently offered at this time and may offer it again in the future. Great service! I'll be back for more! Thanks for reading my review! =) read more

I ordered the Oklahoma truffle smash burger and animal fries. Total came out to 30 bucks. I waited bout hour half for it. Figured the wait with the hype should be worth it but I guess some people just over hyped it a little too much for me. I understand they make it as you order it and if people in front of you have a big order then there's not much you can do with the time but to just be patient and wait but to me as long the burger and fries was worth it I'll be patient and let you do your thing. But honestly in my opinion I don't think it was that worth the wait along with the price. It was just alright to me. Sorry that's just me. I also think they was rushing with the fries. It tasted soggy but maybe it was supposed to be soggy with all the adds they put on the fries but some of the fries that was on the side I grabbed was soggy too. Sorry maybe I just had a bad Batch of fries and a burger. Will I go back again. Maybe not, that line is too long of a wait and I went there before opening too. But don't let me stop y'all from not trying it. I heard a lot of good stuffs bout this place. read more

Never would have expected so find such a gem of an Italian spot at a farmers market food truck, but JOJA delivered!! A friend recommended it as "Italian street food" and that was a great way to describe it. The menu all sounded amazing. Every single thing on the menu was tempting actually. I asked the awesome girl what her suggestions were and her second favorite was the mushroom gnocchi, which was the one that was most enticing to me. I also got the fried calamari which was BY FAR the best calamari I've had on the island. The ONLY thing that would have made it better would be a different dipping sauce option. Pricey, long lines... but 100% worth it. I tried their smash burger (the only one on the menu) and truffle fries for the first time today at the Kakaako Farmers Market. Even at 8:45 am, there's a long line. People really know what's good. The burgers are made in batches, not when they're ordered- really efficient way to keep up with the high volume of orders. And it smells amazing as you're waiting in the well-organized line. Your order number is called out in batches as well. The wait for the food was shorter than to order. The burger is juicy. I'm in truffle heaven- it's not truffle salt, as it didn't taste salty but truffle-y. Wasn't expecting a side sauce- it's the spicy orange sauce. As if the burger couldn't be any more tasty than it already is, this unique sauce gives it a nice kick. Instant fan. There's no brick and mortar store yet.... Okokok. So after being an IG stalker of JoJa's for a while and talking to people i know that have tried it, i had to plan strategically how to finally get my hands on it. Ono grinds and Makeke at WaiKai was my chance. I moved out of Ewa years ago and traffic and drivers these days are horrendous but i mentally committed. Got there around 5pm and the line didn't seem too long. The view, the breeze, and the grass under my feet while in line made the hour go by fairly quickly. Ordered 4 smash burgers (don't fkn judge me), bacon cheddar fries, and animal fries. I figured we might as well order 2 for each of us so if it's as magical as it looks we can eat the extra one the next day. Their operation is wild and let me tell you just watching their hustle alone makes waiting worth it. Alright so as much as I enjoy a great burger, this fkn smash burger is something out of this world. The fkn hype is real. I was worried that my other half would say it's overrated and not worth the wait but even HE said it was legit and is now team JoJa. I would come back to the farmers market solely for this food truck! The prices did scare me at first but you're paying for good quality pasta and they pack a decent amount in their takeout container. It's freshly made so it comes out piping hot *caution* so be careful when you're taking it out of the bag. They have a variety of food (mostly pastas) to choose from that I honestly wanted to get one of everything and call it a day... my friend and I settled on the Bang Bang Pasta: I believe it was a spicy rose sauce w/ shrimp, Italian sausage, tomatoes, and mushrooms topped with mozzarella on homemade linguine.
