Hands down one of the best truffle smash burgers I've ever had. The people here definitely know what they are doing and pair their menu very well with what they offer. Joja is open whenever the farmers market is in kakaako area so that's a plus as you are able to check out different vendors however the staff here and the atmosphere is unlike any other. Their grill and cooking is all done in front of you and their staff is very friendly. If in the area look no further than Joja for an amazing tasting truffle smash burger. I'm most certain you'll be coming back for more. read more

It was well worth waiting in line for their smash burger! Loaded flavor, truffle sauce, and left feeling full yet wanting more on a future visit - would recommend catching them at either Ono Grindz and Makeke or at Kaka'ako Farmers Market! - Miguel Morales Photography read more

JOJA - Smash Burger with Bacon (@miguelmoralesphotography on Instagram) - Burgers Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Not only do these burgers taste amazing, the service is on point! They have a method to their madness and it works! They manage long lines with plenty of demand and the product remains consistent and they are still smiling while doing it! Each burger comes with two patties, onions, and cheese with truffle sauce on a bun. You can choose to add bacon, jalapeños, etc. (which we did). They also include a spicy sauce on the side that you add to the layers of flavor! Make sure you get your own burger since once you try it, you won't want to share! We also got a side of truffle fries and they were perfectly crispy, and could immediately taste the truffle seasoning. We've seen the long lines on social media so went to the kaka'ako farmers market early... and got there at 7:30a, I was the first in line! They actually let the market start early that day (instead of 8a) so they took my order as soon as I got to the counter. Score! (The line quickly started forming at 8!) Watching the process is awesome and they are so nice about everyone being in their faces with cameras! Everyone in my family loved these and this place is now on our list to take people when they come to visit! We'll definitely be back! read more

I always wanted to try their smash burgers. So I arrived there 5 minutes before 8 and they have been taking orders already (hard workers!). I ordered and got number 83 but they were serving around 60? So I decided to browse around other stores in the market. I spent 20 minutes getting flowers etc. They were still serving 70 something. I finally got my order a bit before 8:30. Well people enjoy taking videos or photos of cooking smash burgers and also enjoy nice smell. I personally think it is worth waiting for and moreover it's Saturday morning, you can relax and wait. Oklahoma truffle smash burgers were flavorful and sure to make you full! Bacon truffle fries was ok: it was not so hot and crispy, so next time I will probably only order their awesome smash burgers! Anyhow, Mahalo for the good burgers! read more

Went to the Kakaako Farmer's Market and decided to try this smash burger after hearing so much about it. There is a line, which usually means its something worth waiting for. The line moves fast as they're just taking orders. They're very nice and pleasant and all working hard. The longer wait is for your completed order. This took about 20-30 minutes since they can only make about 20 burgers each time on the grill. The burgers were really good but don't think it was worth $18. There are a lot of good burgers out there and for this price there are others that you could enjoy in a nicer setting without the long wait. All in all a fun morning though and I'm glad I tried their famous smash burger. It's good to try it but not sure if I would wait in two lines again just to eat one. read more

The smash burger is absolutely amazing!!!! I also had the animal fries which have truffle, cheese and meat on it. It honestly tasted like an elevated chili cheese fries. We tried their food at a night market that they were hosting for the first time at a golf course in Honolulu. So causal vibes. Best decision!! Service was nice and fast. You could taste the onion flavor in the smash burgers. They were so juicy and delicious! Joja doesn't have a restaurant so you'll have to figure out where they will be on their instagram or on TikTok. However trust me you won't regret trying their food! It's the best burger I've ever had!!! read more

I Love a good burger but food safety is paramount!!!!The person cooking the burgers was wearing a tank top, exposing his arm pit, with a gold necklace hanging on his neck and no hat or cap to cover the sweat from his bald head. If you like the taste of sweat on your burgers, go for it! This was the most disgusting food preparation I have ever seen, a clear food safety violation in every sense. read more

Arrived at What the Truck at 3:30pm (official start time is at 4pm), and there was already a line for JOJA's. Since we were here, we decided we had to check it out. Waited in line for about an hour to place an order and then another 45 minutes for our order to be ready. The burgers and truffle parmesan fries all arrived hot and fresh. Fries were hot and crispy - subtle truffle flavor, could've used a little more parmesan. As for the burger, soft pillowy bun and full of cheese. The burger was moist and had the bite from being smashed. However, to us, the flavor was lacking somewhat. Truffle flavor, again, was subtle. More like a 3.5 out of 5. Glad to have given them a try, but don't think it was necessarily worth the wait. read more

#49 of 52 (weeks of trying a new restaurant at least once a week) I've seen this place so many times but I refused to try it because I am not waiting in a long line. We happened to show up to the market today and the line wasn't very long at all so we decided to give it a try. I do not like truffle so I'm glad there is an option to get the burger without that sauce. We ordered two burgers, one without sauce and one with bacon. I'd say from the time we got in line until we got our food it was about 30 minutes total. It was nice to at least have a show while you're waiting and watch all the burgers being cooked. They do have a good system down. There is no denying the burger is really good. You get two smashed patties though you can pay for more. I love the onions and wanted extra but didn't want to pay extra for them. My honey said he did like the sauce but they put too much on. At any rate we definitely decided it's one of the best burgers we've had here but it's not worth waiting in a long line for (a short line....sure). read more

Came here at the Kakaako Farmers Market, and its always pretty packed. The line is always 10+ people, but you can see the staff working hard & quickly. They're literally smashing it!!! I've enjoyed everything that I possible could order on their menu and currently it's the Truffle Smash Burger and this time my phone did not eat first...i couldn't resist having a bite of their truffle fries...I LOVE TRUFFLE!!! As soon as I walked up sweet Joslyn greeted me instantly by my name...and with a delightful convo whoa! Keeping it all simple it's now just the smash burger which isn't basic at all with two smashed Pattie's are topped with American cheese, truffle sauce and caramelized onions on a toasted brioche bun which also comes with a bottle water and orange sauce. Don't ask me what is orange sauce or if it has orange but as usual they didn't disappoint on flavor and wished they'd bottle up the sauces it's just yummy!! I did also added on truffle fries and *muah!* chef's kiss so deliciously made fresh to order I can't get enough of it and so glad I saved room just for JOJA...thank you for the Chocolate Chip Cookie that's always done just the way I love this slightly soft cookie with crunchy edges filled with chocolate chips and is not too sweet, it's the perfect way to start my weekend and you need to check them out here at the cool vibe Kaka'ako Farmers Market brings and see how they're smashing it!! Long line for smash burgers! Apparently the best on the island. The burger had a really rich flavor profile with horseradish and cheese. The patty was well seasoned with grilled onions! Been a long time coming. I've seen so many reels and posts on Instagram about this place quite often and I would always tell myself, one Saturday I'll make my way down to the Kaka'ako Farmers Market and give these burgers a try but... I never did, until today!!! The wait is finally over for me as I had the will power to drag my behind down here and try their smashed burgers as I had anticipated for a while now and thank God I did because it was worth the wait. There was no problem with the service as they were pretty quick to control the wait line as ordering went by pretty fast and smoothly. The wait time wasn't bad neither. The crowds of people came and went as I waited patiently for my number to be called. I ordered their burger and their animal style truffle fries with chili and both were ono delicious. The price for one burger goes for $18. Yeah, I know, that sounds like a lot of money for just a single burger but I'm telling you right now, it was worth the money. They have an option where you can add their truffle fries for $12 more and or with chili for $14, bringing your total of $32 for that combination. read more

I've had these burgers twice from What the Truck in Waikele. Both times we waited for over an hour for them. One thing I can say is the workers are very hard working and I know they are great at their craft. Thanks for producing such great burgers. They are consistent in flavor and juicy. It definitely hits the spot. The star has to be the truffle sauce. Now on my end, I don't know if am patient to wait this long for a burger again. Both times I was super hangry by the time I got my food. I do understand the hype so huge respect for Joja. read more

We finally got to try the infamous truffle smash burger we've always seen a long line for every weekend at the Kakaako Farmers Market on Saturday's. Shoutout to our friend Brian who waited one hour and 15 minutes to get these insanely delicious burgers that didn't disappoint and definitely lived up to the hype. We got the double patty truffle smash burger and added bacon. The truffle aioli was out of this world! JOJA truly puts on a show for people as he systematically cooks dozens of burgers in front of the crowds and the masses patiently wait for their mouthwatering lunch. I will continue to have dreams about this meal! I love how the farmers market has tables for people to sit down and enjoy their food and even have hand washing stations. Writing this review is a bit challenging for me because I've been a big fan of this food truck for a long time, and this is actually the first time I've tried their smash burger. I'll do my best to be objective. We went to an event at Waikai, and around 6:45 PM, I lined up to place my order. I got the Oklahoma Smash Burger, which comes with two patties smashed together with cheese and what seemed like mayonnaise sauce. After placing my order, I ended up waiting a long time for my food. However, while waiting, I got to watch the cook prepare the burgers and smash the patties, which was pretty cherreh to see. It took about 45 minutes to finally get my burger. One thing I noticed is that they take orders and fulfill them in batches. The staff takes around 10-15 orders at once, then the main man puts all the patties on the grill and starts smashing them. This method makes the wait time longer, but I understand they're likely doing this to ensure they don't mix up orders. Also, with a small team, it's understandable that food preparation takes a bit longer. When I finally got the burger and took my first bite, I was disappointed--it tasted very bland, and I barely noticed any salt. I'd give the burger a 5/10. It wasn't bad, but it was just a regular burger, nothing special. The long wait was also an issue for me, so I'd rate the wait time a 3/10. However, I understand the delay was probably due to the way they take the orders. On the positive side, the staff really impressed me. I could see how hard they worked and how much effort they put into making the burgers. For their dedication, I'd give them a 10/10. The loaded fries were fantastic, earning a 10/10, and the regular fries were solid too, getting a 9/10. Overall, I'd rate the experience at this event a 7/10. While the burger wasn't great and the wait was long, the fries were excellent, and the staff was hardworking and passionate. I'd recommend trying the food for yourself, but if you're at a busy event like the one at Waikai, be prepared for a long wait. Ultimately, we went for the experience and the good vibes, not just the food. Definitely try the fries--they're worth it! read more

When I say these burgers are LEGENDARY, I mean it. Joja is a man working the grill and he does a damn good job at that! These lines are INSANELY long for a reason. If you don't know, this is an Oklahoma smash burger and has been around since the 1920's. The flavor from maillard reaction in the meat (the dark brown burnt bits on the patty) and the steam that is released cooks the onions to PERFECTION. he then flips the onions onto the grill to get a wonderful brown and adds that legendary slice of American cheese. Joja's burgers stand out bc they have so much flavor from the style of cooking, to the cheese, to the TRUFFLE sauce that HUGS this burger. I'm not going to lie, I'm not a huge fan of truffle oil flavor because must of the time it's not true truffle (it tends to be a chemical added to oil that is similar to the more pungent white truffle). But Joja's burger sauce blends well with the other creamy flavors imparting a wonderful experience through every bite. It's juicy, it's filling, it's just so good! I also got the Bacon truffle cheese fries - they're great too! Everything is good! The bacon is cooked perfectly, not super crunchy so the pork flavor comes out nicely. They ran out of pickled jalapeños (which is fine, next time) and the parmesan cheese on top adds a nice bite that compliments everything. And DO NOT forget the spicy orange sauce, it's fire. in fact, get two or three to make sure you have enough for every fry. The price is a little high for this all, but when you take a bite of everything, you can taste the love put into it. Worth the wait, worth the hype, worth the $$$. Stop by Joja's early because they do run out. read more

Boy, oh boy. Without question, this right here is the most talked-about burger on the island. Probably even the whole state. Every foodie influencer or what have you has this place plastered all over their page; it's spread through social media like wildfire, and is definitely the hottest thing going in town. Picture lines longer than a North Shore barrel, hordes crowding around the griddle to snag a video, and the whole joint selling out before the clock even strikes 11... it can be a challenge to even get your hands on one of these things. Given the burger crush my family has been on lately, this place was naturally something we had to check out for ourselves. I'm a big fan of the "know your identity" approach -- doing one thing well, and committing to perfecting it. Joja certainly subscribes to this philosophy; there's one burger on the menu, and that's what you're here for. The standard Joja burger comes with two smashed patties, a heap of griddled onions, melted cheese, and toasted buns. After stacking everything up, the whole thing is then doused in house-made truffle sauce. It was a little startling to see how much was squirted onto each burger, but this definitely turned out to be the star of the show; not too overwhelming, as is all too easy to do with anything involving truffle oil. Really good. I do think the meat itself was a letdown, though; although uncle working the griddle clearly seasoned them liberally, we were all in agreement that it was definitely not as robustly beefy or flavorful as we were hoping for, on the blander side for sure, so that was disappointing. The onions could have been caramelized a little more as well. The total package was clearly carried by the sauce, which to be fair carried it pretty far... but maybe not quite into "excellent" territory. Overall: a fair, solid burger to be sure, but a touch shy of being worthy of the rabid fanfare that has followed... or the sheer effort it takes to get one. You're only able to get your hands on these things one or two days a week -- Saturday at the Kaka'ako Farmer's Market, and pop-up appearances here and there. Not everyone is ready to line up and inhale a burger at 8 in the morning, either, but sometimes that's what it takes to secure one since they sell out so quickly. I might brave a line like this *only* for the best burger of my life, but I'm not sure this one quite fits that bill. I will add that everyone here is incredibly friendly, and it's clear they are putting their heart and soul into their cooking; it is always worth supporting an operation like that. So if you're up for a bit of a wait and an early rise, come grab one for yourself :) read more

Yes. There's always a long line, but it's worth it. I went on a Saturday at the Kakaako Farmer's Market. Not sure when they start, but I have a feeling it might be before 7:30am. I would stay updated with their IG stories/posts. I got the Oklahoma Truffle Smash Burger and Truffle Animal Fries. The burger. is. messy. Be prepared. Have tons of napkins on hand if you plan to eat it at the farmer's market. The animal fries were good, but there was personally too much cheese on it for me. I made the mistake of putting off getting these burgers because the line was always so long... don't make the same mistake I made. Wait in the line, get your burger and fries, get messy and enjoy. The flavor is on point, best burger I've had in a long time. I got the animal fries and got full, couldn't finish my burger, put it in the fridge and then microwaved it hours later. It was still amazing, of course not as good as fresh but still yummy. Now I'm sad I didn't get another just to eat later. Downsides, waiting to order pulls your heart out, the smells of the burgers cooking makes you more hungry. So wait in the line way before you get hangry. It gets messy so grab napkins, wet wipes or be close to a sink, you can eat it with a fork but you miss out on the burger experience. After you order to actually get your food is a short but grueling wait. The excitement just builds till you get that thing in your mouth! Great food is always worth waiting for. Thank you JOJA for putting my taste buds in a frenzy. I will definitely be seeing you again soon! read more

This is by a far margin, the best smash burger that I've ever had....hands down. We've seen this pop up at the Kakaako farmers market quite a few times, but "who wants a burger at 9 in the morning", I would often ask myself. Turns out...EVERYONE. The lines were always so incredibly long. Our first time trying them we found out that they were going to be in Waikele for a food truck thing that apparently happens once a month out there, so my wife and I (with kids in tow) decided to drive out right after work and hopefully get there early enough to avoid the line. We....did not. Ended up waiting about an hour in line to order, which isn't really too bad. But once we ordered, it took another 45 minutes for our order to be made....which makes sense, they only have one long flat top griddle and one guy making all the burgers. A woman was taking orders and they had another guy on fry/bun duty. After ordering they closed off the line about 10 orders after us, informing everyone else they sold out (woman taking orders was keeping count). Nearly 2 hours for smash burgers? Is it worth the wait? OH. HELL. YEAH. Because everything is made fresh to order and you can literally watch as he makes them, everything comes out hot and fresh. The burgers (which are lightly seasoned and smashed with onions embeddded are crispy on the edges and nice and juicy in the middle as any good smash burger should be. But the star is the white truffle sauce. Oh man, if I could bathe in that sauce....well...nevermind. Also, don't skip on their hot sauce. Its freaking incredible and works great with the burgers as well as for fry dipping. Only thing I didn't really care for was their loaded fries with chili. Ours came out kinda cold for some reason. My wife and kids still loved them, i was just not the biggest fan. They sell out constantly, so get there early. I can't stress that enough. And again, for those looking to catch them at the Kakaako Farmers Market or wherever else they may be in the early mornings... Who wants a smash burger that early in the morning? If its from Joja, the only correct answer is YOU. Trust me....you do. (I mean to take pics everytime, but my brain turns off as soon as the bag is handed to us and the next thing I know all we have is a pile of napkins, some drippings and the biggest smiles on our faces) read more

If I could give them a 2.5 I would. Here's the skinny: They do the truffle sauce well. It's tasty without being over-powering or rich. It does clash with the burger seasoning. The plain fries are seasoned with maybe a light Cajun powder and seems to clash with both the truffle sauce and burger seasoning. The menu is simple in that you can get an Oklahoma Truffle Smash Burger with or without bacon. That's pretty much it. This model should mean the burgers are their specialty and spot-on. The most disappointing part of the experience was the wait. We stood in line from start to burger in hand, for 1:22 and apparently this was a "shorter" than usual line. They take 20 orders at a time but cook only 10 double burgers at a time. They unload the burgers and reload the next batch of 10 double burgers. This is a highly inefficient model. Unloading and loading the grill like a treadmill/assembly line would move things quicker and they could make more profits as a result. People also crowd the front of the line to look at the menu. I'd recommend taking a picture and taking the digital copy back with you in line to review. Glad I tried it but it wasn't worth standing 1 hour and 22 minutes in line for (for me personally) and I likely wouldn't have these burgers again unless someone stood in line and got them for me for free. Edit: CORRECTION, I miscounted. They cook 20 double burgers at a time. I do appreciate the sentiment of a small business trying to keep things simple. Thank for the opportunity to try these burgers. There is a deep respect I have for the hard work and clear passion. read more

Do I dare say the best burger I've ever had? Yes, and I have indeed eaten countless of burgers around the world but nothing compares to JOJA. Located within the farmers market every Saturday in Waikiki, there is always a long line for this spot and is hard to miss. It took about 40 minutes to line up for the burger and another hour until we got our burgers. The smashed burger is succulent and had a great outer crust on the beef. I am unsure if the white sauce was cheese but it was stupendous and really elevated the burger. The onions were perfectly grilled and buns were toasted just the right amount where it wasn't too soggy nor too burnt. Dreaming about this burger and can not wait to be back! read more

The burger tasted great, but watching the cook press down the meat while sweat visibly dripped from his arm onto each patty was honestly disturbing. Most people probably wouldn't notice, but I saw it happen--multiple times. It made the whole experience feel unhygienic. A simple fix like wearing arm bands or a sweat towel could go a long way. Great food, but please tighten up the hygiene. Don't even try to say he doesn't sweat--we live in Hawaii, sweating is part of the deal. I get it, it's hot, it's humid, it happens. But sweat dripping onto the food? That's where I draw the line. I didn't come here to eat a burger seasoned with arm sweat. read more
