Love them! This past Saturday made my 3rd visit to their grill. Husband and I had to run errands in Town and I told him, he better get his stomach ready at 7am b/c we're getting Smashburgers! Sometimes I feel like he doesn't understand my logic until we arrived and as always, there's a fat line wrapped almost around the block with people eager to try their burgers. I had failed to mention that just because we get there at 7, doesn't mean we're eating 7.. in fact, we ate almost at 8:30 lol He looked irritated since it was his first try, I was happy to share the experience with him. Yes, go early! it's not an exaggeration.. sometimes people will wait at 6:30/6:45, the Market isn't even open yet. A single burger is $19 and I always suggest adding an extra patty to taste the meat. The truffle sauce is amazing! NO, it's not Mayo and it does pair well with the Cheese and onions. People complain bc Unko is the only person in charge of smashing the patties and Sis is working the payments and prepping everything else. They normally do have 1 or 2 other workers talking care of fries, assembly, etc but it's still a small operation cranking out big orders. Husband? Loved it. He's normally a picky/small eater but he did finish it before I could keep the burger from burning my mouth. It is a treat.. I wish I could spoil myself more but as great as it is, it's also really heavy you will be full for awhile and your arteries may need hot tea afterwards. My suggestion is to definitely hit them up at Kakaako instead of Waikele. Personally Kakaako has better line control and it's a bigger area to wait for your order. Waikele is a little more clustered and crowded. They accept cash and card but if you pay cash, you save a little but skipping out on the tax :) read more

One of my friends was out here at the same time, and she shared a JOJA burger last time and vowed to get her own the next time. She was staying near the Beachwalk and we walked over to say "hi" but let them know we'd see them on Saturday. At a little past 8 am at the Kakaako Farmer's Market, the line was already at the street, so I got in line and waited for my friends. The line actually moved better than in the past. So we kept getting closer. Since I had worked out in the morning, I was starving and got the original with an extra patty and bacon. Soooooooo good! My mom loves going to farmer markets and I decided to take her to Kaka'ako Farmers Market. As we were walking around exploring, Joja had a huge line and you can smell how delicious the food is. When there is a huge line you get in because it can't be that bad right? You are able to see the staff making the burgers and also a bunch of foodies record and take photos of the action. Well, I'm happy to announce that it was well worth the wait! I loved that they have an area where they allow you to borrow an umbrella while you wait in line. This is very sweet and thoughtful if you ask me. Cause it was pretty sunny when I went and I can definitely see random rain occurring where these will also come in handy. Prices are a bit pricey but it was very worth every darn penny. I was so full after my burger and I shared the fries but it was more than enough to share. Worth the hype. Went to their food stall at the Monday night market in Waikiki. Went close to opening at 3:45ish, and waited for about 30-40 minutes for the burger. So bomb. At last, I finally got to try the infamous smash burger from JoJa! We went to the farmers market on Saturday morning and I waited in line for about an hour. It was worth every penny of that $20. Jason, the owner and cook, is piling up freshly chopped onions on top of each patty and then smashes it down on the grill. He then places cheese and lets the buns toast golden brown. His team works as a perfect unit, refilling the station with whatever is needed and then placing the buns onto each to-go box. One by one, they're squeezing this creamy white truffle mayo sauce into each burger. It's served with this smoky and spicy bbq mayo sauce which goes perfectly with the burger. It's hands down, THE BEST burger I've had up to date. It's gooey, meaty, and the grilled onions is phenomenal. Not sure what's in the seasoning but this smash burger has its own lane. As a matter of fact, I came on Saturday AND Monday at the night market and bought 3! That's how good these are. The lines build early and continue to stay long for the duration of almost 4-5 hrs! JoJa has a cult following which is key. What's also impressive, is that Jason is still able to have small talk and take random photos with people while he's sweating and cooking! That's authentic with a real Aloha spirit. I told him to open up shop in The Bay Area! Not sure they ever will but man, I can already see his shop making insane noise in northern Cali. Finally got to try their burgers. They had a special event in Waikiki on a Monday and so glad I got to try it without any lines! Final verdict: burger was delicious, a good smash burger. It wasn't dry and it's got a good char. The truffle sauce was kinda weak and runny. It's a mess to eat but nonetheless it went really well with the burger. The patty could have more beef flavor and could use a tad bit more salt. Not saying it wasn't good but for $19 I've had better. I would definitely not stand in line for this. I've been in Hawaii for a while and always saw a line whenever I passed by the Farmers Market... but I was usually busy and kept telling myself, "I'll try it next time" (you know how it goes). I'm really glad I finally get to try it but remember to checked their website because I found out they pop up at the KailuaTown Farmers Market once a month -- otherwise they're usually at their regular spot. The burger was sooo good! Crispy edges, juicy in the middle, cheesy, and just the right amount of messy... satisfying but not falling apart in your hands. Joja had a stand at Ono Grindz & Makeke Wai Kai Farmer's Market today. The line for them was fairly long, so apparently they were popular! But, the owner took orders/payments and moved the line along as quick as possible. We've had Smash Burgers back in the Bay Area, California, Though, I don't remember the truffle oil mayo sauce. So we got in line. They are very popular so it took about 35+min before we finally got our food. She was friendly and handled the crowds well! Oklahoma Truffle Smash Burger $18: double Smash patties (100% ground beef made with ribeye & beef chuck blend) and double American cheese, thinly sliced onions cooked and carmelized into the patties, special truffle sauce, brioche bun (4/5). Why is it human nature that the more exposure on social, main stream media, and winning accolades, the more, more, too much more complicated something that was once simple becomes? Two well caramelized, super salty, beef and onion smashed patties glued together by thick melted slices of processed cheese and literally smeared with an inch thick layer of truffle mayo in a heavily toasted bun. The heat of the burgers quickly melts the mayo so it oozes down the entire burger. A "gloves required for eating" burger. This time I was lucky as we were at What The Truck and was also a vendor nearby so once I seen the line forming I jumped in lol. Now for the burgers! We learned from our new experience this weekend. For the kids no onions and sauce keep it plain too much going on for them for we were out 2 burgers since they didn't want it. For me liked the grilled charred edges on the buns, patties were good and love Oklahoma style and not many smash burgers do it that way. One thing I'd do is get the truffle sauce on the side. IMO it was a little much and took away from the burger. Could be between the onion or the truffle sauce that gives it a bite on your tongue. The little hot sauce does balance them out a little. They manage long lines with plenty of demand and the product remains consistent and they are still smiling while doing it! I ordered and got number 83 but they were serving around 60? So I decided to browse around other stores in the market. I spent 20 minutes getting flowers etc. They were still serving 70 something. I finally got my order a bit before 8:30. Well people enjoy taking videos or photos of cooking smash burgers and also enjoy nice smell. #49 of 52 (weeks of trying a new restaurant at least once a week) I've seen this place so many times but I refused to try it because I am not waiting in a long line. We happened to show up to the market today and the line wasn't very long at all so we decided to give it a try. I do not like truffle so I'm glad there is an option to get the burger without that sauce. We ordered two burgers, one without sauce and one with bacon. I'd say from the time we got in line until we got our food it was about 30 minutes total. It was nice to at least have a show while you're waiting and watch all the burgers being cooked. They do have a good system down. There is no denying the burger is really good. You get two smashed patties though you can pay for more. I love the onions and wanted extra but didn't want to pay extra for them. My honey said he did like the sauce but they put too much on. At any rate we definitely decided it's one of the best burgers we've had here but it's not worth waiting in a long line for (a short line....sure). read more

The line moves fast as they're just taking orders. They're very nice and pleasant and all working hard. The longer wait is for your completed order. This took about 20-30 minutes since they can only make about 20 burgers each time on the grill. The burgers were really good but don't think it was worth $18. There are a lot of good burgers out there and for this price there are others that you could enjoy in a nicer setting without the long wait.
