I heard about this place not long after I moved to Denver so I had to try it out. We kept hearing about the cinnamon rolls, and how can I turn down a famous cinnamon roll? So we made the trip to Johnson's Corner. Well, I was a bit disappointed. It's just your average, greasy diner, just in a truck stop with a big gift shop. The cinnamon roll was really big, not really all that good, and I can't say it was worth the trip out there. It was average at best, in general. I took my parents here when they were out because they have the craziest sweet tooth one could ever have and they enjoyed it. So I have been here twice. Once I stayed and actually ate (well we had a cinnamon roll there) and the other time I just stopped in to grab some waters and a cinnamon roll. Both times I was there I really felt like the people who work there seem inconvenience by you being there. The cinnamon rolls are really good and everything in the restaurant case actually looks pretty yummy. So if it were me I'd tell you to grab it to go. As far as the gas station side. There are tons of little knickknacks and such that you can buy. There are a lot of those kinds of things and then the normal gas station stuff. After years of tearing past Johnson's corner at 85mph on I-25, a group of 6 of us came here for a late breakfast. Tempted by the legend of the cinnamon rolls, we started with one of those. My tip - split one for the table... they're huge (and good!) The breakfast itself is ok, especially if you want to meet your monthly quota of grease all in one meal. Our family has been driving beyond Fort Collins to enjoy more of what Colorado has to offer - sometimes it's a day trip down to Denver, other times it's a outdoor expedition in the Rocky Mountains. No matter where we go, or what we do, we usually start the trip with a traditional visit to Johnson's Corner for some classic diner grub. Johnson's Corner is the best of the best of greasy spoons. It's simple, no frills cooking that it hits the right spot. Are you going to get anything gourmet here? Not a chance. But that's not its intended purpose. What they provide is a plate of down home Americana. While I don't think Johnson's Corner lives up to all of the media hype, I do think they are the best truck stop that serves a better-than-most diner menu. The majority of the menu items aren't anything special for the taste buds, but I can't think of a better greasy spoon experience anywhere else. Quintessential truck stop diner with everything you'd need to keep travelling and OPEN ALL HOURS. The Diner is worth stopping for breakfast. Quick and hot food with big coffee mugs although it's usually busy with truck traffic or the touristy kind of folk. The access to parking could be better by having more room around the building itself. A highlight for those traveling is that they have TV monitors that show all the roads during the winter months. Worlds worst cinnamon rolls. Dry, no cinnamon, cold, and gross!! It was more like a dry donut roll than actual cinnamon roll. And the icing was more like sugar frosting, instead of your typical cream cheese topping. Cinnabon has better cinnamon rolls and they don't even claim to be "world famous". This place is hilarious. Worth it alone for the people watching and awesome selection of keychains, t-shirts, and other ridiculous Colorado souvenirs. We got grilled cheeses and fries, so we were too full for one of the famous cinnamon buns. But word on the street is that the world famous recipe had been changed a couple years ago and they do not live up to their former glory. Truth? I'm not sure.... I had the opportunity to stop in for dinner at Johnson's Corner on my way back to Denver. I would have never found a place like this out in the country on Yelp. I actually tracked it down via roadfood.com. Going in the front door, I had already decided that I was getting the chicken-fried steak and a cinnamon roll for dessert. As Jamie L. indicated, this joint is classic americana. The kind of place your folks would have stopped at when they were dating. I was greeted promptly and placed my order. My food was out quickly and I dug in. My steak and mashed potatoes were absolutely drenched in gravy. So much gravy. I scraped a lot of it off so that I could get the flavor of the steak. The steak was good, and the potatoes were okay. I'd get it again, this time with the gravy on the side. My second side was applesauce, which was fantastic. It was chunky applesauce and it was all chunks. Which I liked. It was out of a can though, according to the waitress. I ordered the cinnamon roll for dessert. I made the wise choice to get the icing on the side. They literally filled a soup bowl with icing. The roll is decent without the icing. I think some butter would go a long way. As someone else mentioned, the icing itself is a little off. I couldn't figure out what it was, but I ate half and took the other half home for snack. And it tasted even better as a snack. Service was friendly, if a little slow at times. If I'm headed up I-25 in the future, I'll stop by, no doubt. read more

This is our weekly family outing for dinner, since it's right up the way from Johnstown. It's your typical greasy spoon truck stop, but with THE BEST CINNAMON ROLLS EVER!!! Seriously, they've been profiled on FoodTV shows because of them. My usual weekly dinner rotation is the green chile smothered burrito, the taco, or sometimes their reuben. My parents love the breakfast burrito, and my hubby loves the chicken fried steak. I've tasted all the above, and they're all great. The place is also great for kids. The noise level is just high enough that slightly loud children are not noticed. Usually, they're fawned over by the older couples who frequent there, and the waitresses and waiters as well. The food selection is good for kids, and always includes a drink, a side and a pack of oreos for dessert (and our waiters/waitresses usually know to sneak them to us so that they don't distract from the dinner). The service is awesome - they're always friendly and helpful, and since we come once a week, they recognize us by sight (which I find is always a plus). Finally, the store has the usual eclectic offerings one may find in a large truck stop serving traveling customers, with a Colorado tourist skew. I've picked up last minute birthday presents there more than once. Very convenient! I am a frequent visitor at Johnsons Corner and have always loved their food and service. Since they were bought by TravelCenter almost nothing has changed: their customer service is always done promptly and with a smile, food is still quick and plentiful and the cinnamon rolls are still simple the best around. One thing has changed unfortunately and that is the quality of the food. Potatoes (Hash Browns and French fries) aren't as crisp anymore , eggs have lost their flavor and "fluff" and the overall quality has gone down just enough to make me question the drive to get there. It's still a great restaurant... But they must have changed their cook staff because the edge is gone. read more

Over all three stars - Typical Greasy Spoon comfort food. Breakfast Burrito was ok but the hash browns was bland unseasoned crispy on the outside and mush on the inside. Server was very friendly. Today the early morning local farmers were all sitting around talking about their crops, the weather, and the local news. So the environment was very friendly and entertaining. Tasty greasy-spoon type of food, good portions, and decent service. I would never steer someone away from the place. But the cinnamon rolls...world famous? Pshhhh...please. Highly, highly overrated. They're mass produced. They're dry. And there are better places in the area to get a cinammon roll. (Three that I'd recommend over JC: Vern's, Silver Grill, and the mall. Yes, even Cinnabon is better than Johnson's Corner. WAY better.) So stop on in there and get your grub on, just don't go out of your way for the cinnamon rolls. read more

I have eaten here about a dozen times over the years. I have never tried the cinamon rolls. The place is clean. Never a wait for a table. Friendly staff. Quick service. I have always gotten the same thing. The chili burger with green chili. I would like to try other things but this burger is huge(I can not even finish it), tastes awesome and is cheap, so I can't venture away. I dropped in to grab a "world famous" cinnamon bun. The billboards did their job! I grabbed one out the case to go then warmed it in the microwave. This is your pretty typical truck stop. Nothing out of the ordinary to me. I wanted to stop because we've driven by so many times and it always looks packed with people and for some reason I like to stop at truck stops. It's usually an interesting scene. They have giant cinnamon rolls, which I hear are very good. Unfortunately I don't have much of a sweet tooth and we didn't eat at the cafe (maybe next time). This review is only for the truck stop section. They have quite a few pumps to fill up at, so you won't be waiting long if you have to. The restrooms were clean and the store was nicely laid out. They also have showers and laundry facilities for you truckers out there. There is plenty of parking for the rigs too. read more

I stopped in for lunch on my way home one afternoon after hearing a coworker rave about the cinnamon rolls. I had a club sandwich and didn't have enough time to eat a cinnamon roll there, so I asked for a cinnamon roll to go. Instead of putting it in a to-go box, they told me to go to the front, where they pulled out a pre-wrapped one. I wanted mine warmed up, but there was a line of people waiting so I just left. Next time I will make sure to have enough time to get their cinnamon roll in the restaurant, or see what they can do to give me a warm one before I leave. The food is great but it is the atmosphere that I really liked. It just felt like the place your grandparents would go. A real home town feeling here. There are phones at nearly every booth. Johnsons' Corner has always been a wonderful restaurant. Petro/TA Truck stops have bought the place & I am hoping they don't ruin the place. Johnson's Corner has a huge local & tourist trade, especially the Sunday & weekend crowd. They are always packed. The food is cooked right there, just like at home & they have their own Bakery, where baked goods, biscuits, etc are made & brought in. They also have Buffalo Sausage & Eggs w/hash browns, which we had, just $6.99. Just wonderful & tasty. We did buy an Apricot Kringle on the way out, $7.99; Was not as pleased with it. The dough was not real flaky, more like biscuit dough & the filling could have had a little more substance & flavor. The wait staff are still as always friendly, smiling & pleasant; always eager to please. My Greatest fear is, that they will start changing the restaurant, which would be a huge mistake. I would be really pissed to find it to be another of TA/Petro's microwave wonder, restaurants; which have no variety & food that is poorly prepared. Hopefully they will leave Johnson's Corner just as it is, a warm friendly place to be, with wonderful & caring wait staff & cooks, who actually prepare & cook real food, that is good for you. read more

I have been coming to Johnson's Corner for 25 years and have seen a lot of changes. One thing that has not changed is the friendly service and the wonderful food. I love their beef vegetable soup. The store is so fun to walk around. They used to have a lot more Western things that were unique, but now it seems more touristy. I know they have won awards for their cinnamon rolls, but I don't think they're that great any more. They used to be a lot tastier and more like homemade. Still, I love coming to Johnson's corner and it feels like home. read more
