I spilled water on my MacBook Pro and thought I would have to buy a new laptop. I took it to Best Buy to have the Geek Squad team look at it and they told me that they don't repair MacBooks. So I went to the Apple store and they told me they would have to send it to their tech team, and the minimum was $1500 for them to diagnose. That's not even for the repair job. If they can't fix it, the $1500 would be gone. My dad found Jane and dropped off my laptop with her. There was a lot of water damage, but she was able to get the job done within 2 weeks; she was able to recover my data as well. I was able to use those files on a loner laptop that I borrowed from my sister. After Jane fixed my laptop, I've never had any issues. She's very passionate about her job, which shows in her work. I own an Onkyo receiver, which has a known defect that eventually causes it to not work. To fix it, you need to reflow one particular chip, to fix some cold solder joints. I brought my receiver over the bridge to Johnson because a shop here on the peninsula said they were very good at board-level work. Jane and her husband did a great job of quickly fixing the board. They charged me a reasonable amount, and so far the stereo has worked perfectly all weekend. I'm very happy I brought it to Johnson to be repaired. Initially we thought I would have to send it back to the manufacturer to replace the motherboard since she didn't have a replacement (it was a customized gaming laptop). Wow! Johnson Computers recovered some valuable data off of what I thought was a dead hard drive. And they did it in 24 hours, a very impressive turn-around time. The guys at the 'squad' would have had to send it out to level 2 or 3 to recover the files. They couldn't give me an expected completion time or cost estimate. The owners are nice but their business isn't. I went in with my laptop that had a cracked screen and I thought all was well until after I had picked it up. First of all, the owner told me she wouldn't give me my laptop back until I left her a good Yelp review. Secondly, I got home and turned on my laptop (touchscreen Lenovo ThinkPad) which didn't have a single problem until after I took it to Johnson Computers. On the paperwork you fill out the details about your device and I did so correctly, but my laptop is no longer touch screen, runs incredibly slowly, and now the border around the screen is coming loose. When I called to ask why my laptop was no longer touchscreen, I was told that I didn't let them know that it was touchscreen and that if I wanted it fixed I would have to spend another $500 to order the touchscreen and then bring it back to Johnson Computers to be "fixed" again. I took my laptop into her because I had lost everything and a message kept coming up, saying boot drive not found. I was also not able to open up downloads from my Yahoo! Mail, nor connect OneDrive to my other devices when I brought my laptop in. Jane called me two hours after I brought my laptop in and gave me a quote, explaining that the hard drive was corrupted; she asked me if I wanted her to go ahead and repair it and I said yes - she promised to have it back to me the next day or the day after. I had 11 calls with them in 12 hours and they made a bad problem worse where my system essentially "crashed" and I needed to do a system restore. The problem - HP never told me to do a back up first. Very late review (Sorry, Jane!). I'd give a million stars if I could. Jane MAJORLY saved the day! My wife's SD card in her phone got corrupted while we were taking Christmas pictures. Our 3 year old's entire life so far as well as other major family events were on that card. My wife almost broke down after we went to check our the pics we just took and literally nothing was on her phone. Yes, my wife now backs up the cloud. Any way, after having the Geek Squad take a quick look and an unsuccessful attempt some tier1 data recovery, the team member gave me his honest opinion...their tier 2 or 3 data recovery process will take WAY too long (3 wks to 3+ mo) and will be WAY to expensive ($500-$1k+). "Look for a local data recovery place. They exist.", he said. Picked the first place with high ratings and in Hayward dialed them up. Tues 12/31/19: Called Johnson Computers. Jane answered and told me to come in. Headed there immediately. She charged $35 to look at the SD card and determine the next steps. Two hours later, as promised, she calls to provide the pricing and request authorization to proceed. Thurs 1/2/20: Jane calls and keeps let's me know she's still in the process of moving all files from the SD card. She couldn't see everything just yet, but felt confident that most of the data will be recovered. Fri 1/3/20: Jane calls and says she's pretty much done. Requests that I drop off a 250GB thumb drive. Sat 1/4/20: Jane calls and says to come and pick up the thumb drive. Soon as I get there, Jane brings me back into their "shop" and opens up the thumb drive on a PC. She showed me where/what all the files were. I handed her the money and she handed me something that my wife and I are eternally grateful for.
