DO NOT BRING YOUR CLOTHES HERE. My husband brought in a pair of expensive jeans to do a simple hem. First, he charged nearly 100 dollars for this hem. Then when he came to pick up the pants they were nothing like he asked. The stitching at the bottom was yellow and didn't match the rest of the stitching on the jeans, it also looked TERRIBLE. On top of that it was not the hemming that they had agreed to, he asked him not to cut and to keep the extra material just in case the length was off. They were cut anyway and the pants are far too short. He did not want to refund the money even though he completely ruined the jeans. After some haggling he admitted that he SENT THE JEANS TO A TAILOR! how are you advertising a business but then sending the clothes to someone else?!? Is that why he's over charging for a simple hem? Recently I got an inexpensive blazer and I wanted to shorten sleeves as soon as possible. I did a quick Yelp search and discovered this mom-and-pop alternation shop called John's Tailor. I walked in on Thursday at 1 PM and the guy (I believe he's the owner) said that he can finish the sleeve alteration by Saturday 11 AM - 12 PM. I paid $40 on the spot and sure enough he finished the alteration when I stopped by on Sunday at 1 PM. He initially had trouble finding my blazer, but I pointed to my blazer on the rack and he couldn't locate my cloth because there was a mislabel on my receipt. $40 is slightly expensive to shorten sleeves for a blazer (few places in SoCal offer $25) and it would be even better if I get a call when they finished the work, but overall I was satisfied with the service and he did finish the job on time (less than 48-hour turnaround time). read more

This guy is a PRO! I've been coming here for years and had tons of clothes altered: Dress shirts, different types of suits, jackets, pants, shorts, MMA/Jiu jitsu clothes, work uniforms, etc. Its the only place to bring your formal and business attire. Rogelio can take almost any suit and make it look like it was custom made for you. On the first visit I wanted to see if I could trust him with some pricier items in the future, so I brought over two $75 Massimo suits from Target and asked him to go to town on them, not just hemming sleeves and pant legs. When he was done with them they looked way more valuable. I'd often get compliments on those suits and nobody believed they were from Target. From there I brought in anything and everything: designer suits, suits from Nordstrom, Saks, vintage suits, rare finds from the thrift store, etc. Everything he's worked on has came out great. On occasion I'll even spend more on the alteration than the actual garment, because Rogelio really knows how to make clothes compliment the physiques of his clients. He's been mastering his craft since his teenage years, tailored for celebrities (he's too humble to bring it up), and well worth the compensation he quotes. I recently went to John hoping he could alter a silk Indian garment (a sort of tunic properly called a Sherwani, I learned) that I was scheduled to wear at my son's wedding. The shoulders were a bit too wide and the sleeves were a bit too long, but the sleeves ended in a particular sort of hem such that it wouldn't look right just to "cuff" the end of the sleeves. So he reset the shoulders, took in the sleeves at the shoulder, and it all worked out beautifully. He did all this quickly and for a most reasonable price. Very highly recommended. read more

Been going to Juan for a couple of years now. From workout pants to suits, he has done a good job. The ultimate test came this year. My dad passed away last summer. He had this jeans jacket he wore in the 1980s and 1990s. To strangers, the jacket is worth 5 bucks (if that), but for obvious reasons it's priceless to me. Was going to store it away, but figured I'd ask Juan if he could alter it to my size. Met up with him and explained the meaning of the jacket and what I was hoping to get done. It would take some skilled work to alter since my dad was a bigger guy than I. Talked it over, took my measurements and met up with him again as he was working on it to ensure it was coming out bad expected. The end result was FANTASTIC (see the pic). Fitted / vintage style! My dad got a lot of good use out of it and now it's my turn to add some miles to it. Juan is professional, highly skilled, patient and friendly. He takes his job seriously. What a jerk! It's been a long time since I've given a bad review. Im sorry, but this guy really made me mad. There's no excuse for hanging up on a potential customer when they are asking questions about your business. I was calling for pricing estimates because I have multiple suits and shirts that need alterations. He exclaimed I need to come in to see his work. I called because of the good reviews but I live far, but willing to travel for good work. Once he found out I didn't want to come in for pricing, he hung up on me. First of all, store hours say they open at 9am. I arrived exactly at 9 and waited 20 minutes. He never arrived. I called at 9:30 to see if someone was there and he finally answered. Because I needed an alteration that day, I risked going to him. When I showed up and asked why his hours were so early if he wasn't going to be there, instead of just apologizing, he tried to give excuses of having to take 3 freeways and traffic and blah blah blah. No degree of professionalism. He promised my item by end of day - again I needed it done, so I consented. When I arrived at end of day to pick up my piece, upon inspection of the garment, he used the wrong color thread, even though the appropriate color was sitting next to the sewing machine. When I asked why he did that, especially given the needed color was available, he said "well, uh, I didn't think you'd look so closely." He said he would redo it and to come back another day. He should have done it right the first time especially since he was charging me for same day service. I will NEVER come here again and I suggest going elsewhere if possible. read more

He's altered pants and suits for me whenever I need it. He may cost a little more than some others, but it's because of the quality of his work. He does things right and will give you options. We went to John's to repair a worn elbow in a suit jacket. We were assured he could fix it and it wouldn't be worth the cost to have it rewoven. It looks like he used liquid stitch and created a scab, the jacket will have to go to goodwill. My biggest issue is that he did not even press the jacket. I've never had alterations where they didn't press the garment after completing it. I don't know if this is an L.A. thing, or just a craftsmen with no care for his work. $15 was worth it to find out I can't trust him with business professional clothing. I don't know if we were profiled as a jacket we were going to have resized he was just going to lop off the end instead of making the adjustment at the shoulder until I asked him about it and he said "oh you know what you're doing". read more

I came here based on yelp reviews. Rodrigo the owner was helpful and honest. I needed patches sewn on my jujitsu gi's. We started talking and found out he was a boxer in his day and his sons competed in boxing and one of them is a pro wrestler in Mexico. He watches a lot of MMA and knew what I wanted. Dropped of the gi's and boardshorts and 3 days later called to let me know they are finished. He did excellent work. One chest patch was slightly off, but that was probably me since I originally placed them there in the first place, still, lol. read more

This place is the best. It's nice to go to a business that specializes in one thing--alterations/tailoring. The owner is an expert at what he does and is super friendly and welcoming. My husband had three pairs of Levi 501's that he wanted turned into shorts. I had read all the great reviews and decided to give this place a try. We came in, told Rogelio what we wanted, my husband tried one pair of the jeans on, came out of the fitting room, Rogelio marked the spot on the fabric where my husband wanted the length to be, and that was all there was to it. We picked up the finished shorts a couple days later, and they were done perfectly. Rogelio even matched the color of thread he used to that of each pair of jean. "You get what you pay for". I have always believed that saying. This time was no different. I took 2 shirts, a 3pc suit, a regular suit and a pair of slacks to Rogelio. He made all that I brought to him fit the way I hoped for and repaired the lining and stitching of the slacks. A simple conversation and he delivered beyond my expectations. My bill was not as if I had Rogelio create a suit from scratch but it was also not cheap. But if it was cheap, I'm sure the outcome of my clothes would have been also. I can see in Rogelio's eyes that he elevates tailoring into an art form. He masterfully took a 3-piece suit down a size that was one size too large, while slimming down several places: the waist & hip area, the arms, among others. The end result was a snug fit: not skin-tight like too many tailored outfits appear nowadays where it seems the victim can barely move around, but fitting yet offering full range of movement! Rogelio may price his services at a premium, but it's reasonable given the quality of his craftmanship and experience. Rogelio also offers services to make dress shirts and suits from scratch.
