I ordered shrimp scampi with a side of brussel sprouts & loaded baked potato ($2 up charge). My son got a prime rib sandwich & loaded baked potato. While waiting for our food, the owner came over & introduced himself. He asked us our names & chatted with us about the food. We both enjoyed our food & pretty much cleaned our plates. I definitely want to return here to try their steak.

The ingredients are top quality and the chef really knows his stuff. I enjoyed one of the best pork chops ever, thick and juicy with a little pink as requested. Every bite had that little bit of crisp, little bit of fat, just right on the seasoning. My husband raved about his filet mignon which looked awesome. Pics included! Decor is a western feel, simple and understated. Lighting is just right. The whole place had a fresh and clean feel to it. There was some low volume Pandora or similar music feed of the classic light rock persuasion. Service was well above average and everything was so delicious. Check the little logo "branded" on the dinner rolls. We took home a bit of leftover which our waitress Lori kindly boxed up, and grabbed two slices of the pie of the day (German Chocolate) which we polished off at home. Most Thursdays there is prime rib and I'll be calling ahead on that on another Thursday in the not too distant future. But I get the impression that everything on the menu will be excellent. What a great addition to this area! Thank you TJ.

Roots is all about the food. What else can I say but their ingredients are great. The beverages are…read moresuper good for those of us sick of hyper-sweet soda. It's in the same category restaurant at Sweet Green. I think some people balk at the prices but those same people will pay more at the Old Richmond Inn for lower quality food. The main knock against Root's is the atmosphere. It has the same charm as some of the nicer auto- mechanic waiting areas I've been to. Just grey, bland, cavernous. I personally care most about the food so the atmosphere doesn't bother me as much. But I think it hurts their image when they'r charging "premium lunch" prices and the interior can't even match the vibe of like a chipotle or sweetgrass, which they are most comparable to. (Not saying they need to be the same as chipotle or sweetgrass)

We took a 30 minute detour to try out Roots Bistro and it was very disappointing. The girl at the counter seemed genuinely depressed and disinterested in helping us. There were menu photos online of salads and panini and mac and cheese bowls, but none of those were available. I did a build your own bowl with salad greens as the base and I had to eat around out clumps of black wilted salad leaves (I'm pretty sure it was a bagged spring mix that was starting to go bad). I wish we had gone to Smoothie King next door.

I had the cheese bread, which is incredible. (It's so difficult to choose between the cheese bread and the pretzel.) I tried the wrath burger. It was good and would have been even better if I had gone with the egg sunny side up instead of fries. The fries are out of this world. I'd make the hour drive just for them.

There is no 'meat taste' at all so get in here and give these a try. I had a feeling I would love it and I did. It's a large yet cozy venue with the number 5 featured prominently in assorted art as well as on the tables. The building is historic, lots of wood, brick and brass railings plus a stunning Victorian bar back. We ate at the bar which was very comfortable. Little sliding wooden trays to make it convenient for eating, then just move them out of the way when you're done. They have 10 or so craft beers on tap and a full bar. We had the opportunity to sample a couple brews and we both enjoyed our beer choices and the food. Prices were fair, and tax is included in the menu price. I really want to shout out our bartender/server. Didn't get her name but she had round glasses with eyeglass chain attached and was on the shorter side. She was very customer focused, answering all our first-timer questions, attentive, appropriately conversational, and definitely on the ball as she was handling tables too. Top notch service. About those railings: unless there's a special back entrance, the venue may not be wheelchair accessible. There are two or three steps at the entrance, and if you want the bar instead of booth or table, another three or four. Both have sturdy solid handrails. I do not fault them for this; probably the historic building is exempt, but just wanted to note it for anyone needing that info. All in all a five star experience and I hope to return soon.
