    Patty melt and o-rings #yum #ReviewsByRL

On a mini #roadtrip back to Indy. Just the perfect little local place I like to find. Street parking. Small little house, couple/four tables. Cooked to order so it took a little but not a problem. I had the patty melt and the onion rings. Both were a #yum. And I bet the breakfast foods are good. I missed the little chalk board that said there was a fried fish special. The table next to me had it and it looked really good. #ReviewsByRL

We visited our family place after 20 years. Stopped in and had breakfast. Lots of locals inside. Friendly owners. The pancakes are made to order and worth the wait. Coffee is hot. Cool atmosphere. Snow outside. Warm inside!

First of all don't come if you're in a hurry this is a made to order restaurant. Small grill, one woman kitchen. Waited 45 minutes for our breakfast. Watching her was amazing. Arriving and placing our order there were at least 8 tickets ahead of us. While I watched she threw down hash browns, bacon and eggs, omelet and made the toast. Now all that takes time to cook but coffee was refilled and it was good tasting. Well seasoned pot. It's a remodeled house. Not a lot of space. 10 tables and counter seating. She needs a bigger grill. I saw leftover pancakes on a plate and they looked so good. Thick and large. The omelet filled the platter but didn't look thick. Generous portions, especially the gravy. I don't know if its homemade or not. Food Finally came. The bacon done perfectly I would have given 4 stars if it weren't for the long wait

Welcome to grandma's house! This restaurant reminds me of the way we used to eat. I got the Tuesday special, which was meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad, and bread. The photos don't do the amount of food justice but $7.24 wasn't a bad price when you consider what little you get at other places. I had to take part of the food with me. The huge difference with all of this is that the food was made from scratch. She made the gravy from the meat she cooked and they peeled and mashed potatoes and snapped and de-strung beans, the way it used to be. Is there another restaurant where you can get that in 100 miles? I doubt it. Just like grandma's, there were people talking when I entered and they were enjoying themselves. If I expected a host to seat me in the fancy area, it wasn't happening. The woman was in the kitchen cooking and her husband was out front taking care of customers when I sat down at the counter. I suppose people today would call that cute and charming but it's just the way things used to be here. These people have been running the place for 18 years. I'd been gone most of that time and didn't normally pass it. Apparently, they did a lot of business because of the Kemper Cabinet factory and other businesses on the south side that have closed. First, I got my salad and dressing. It wasn't much, so I wasn't expecting much. The lettuce was clean with no rusty edges and there were several tomato slices and they weren't yellow-ish or green-ish. Radishes were also included--you can see from the photo. I wasn't expecting the huge piece of meatloaf with a good portion of mashed potatoes and gravy, and hand-snapped green beans, plus a slice of bread. Trust me about the green beans. My grandparents would go out with my parents on Sunday and we'd stop on the road somewhere someone was selling vegetables on the side of the road and grandma would buy a bushel of beans. We'd go to their house and 3 or 4 of us would be on the front porch snapping beans. Making a meal from scratch just isn't that easy. I can't tell you the last time I made gravy because it's so easy to open a jar. She makes the gravy after cooking the meat, the way it should be. I said "there is no sin in lumps" referring to the mashed potatoes, which really didn't have lumps but I could tell that they weren't from an instant package. I had a really good conversation with the owners, also. They're great down-to-earth people. There wasn't enough salt in anything, which is a good thing these days, but...it was just like grandma's. Update 2014.04.17: The new owners have been in business since October and today was the first time I'd been there since then. They're friendly and the food seems to be much the same--made from scratch and made with care. They mentioned that they do large deliveries from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

I live about an hour away from this nice little spot. My best friend and I were in the area and craving breakfast, we looked up a couple of spots.. and this was the winner. And let me tell y'all, I would drive HOURS to come back to it time and time again. The staff were incredibly nice, you walk in and you just know it's going to be good food. I ordered eggs, bacon, wheat toast, and a waffle. My friend got eggs, sausage, toast, and we shared a full order of biscuits and gravy. MAN!!! It was soooooo good! Everything was cooked to perfextI've been to countless breakfast restaurants and this one is seriously number one! It is home cooking and made with some serious love. Please make the drive to this little spot it is so worth it.

This place is great! Very comfortable and welcoming. The staff is very friendly, and I felt at home as soon as I hit the door on my first visit. The special of the day was chicken and dumplings, which I had with green beans and mashed potatoes. The serving size was quite large for lunch. The green beans were among the best I have had, the potatoes were rich and lumpy, the chicken and dumplings were great. Nice big thick delicious noodle style dumplings, tasty chicken gravy, lovingly cooked chicken. Served with bread to get all the good stuff. Less than seven bucks!

There is no 'meat taste' at all so get in here and give these a try. I had a feeling I would love it and I did. It's a large yet cozy venue with the number 5 featured prominently in assorted art as well as on the tables. The building is historic, lots of wood, brick and brass railings plus a stunning Victorian bar back. We ate at the bar which was very comfortable. Little sliding wooden trays to make it convenient for eating, then just move them out of the way when you're done. They have 10 or so craft beers on tap and a full bar. We had the opportunity to sample a couple brews and we both enjoyed our beer choices and the food. Prices were fair, and tax is included in the menu price. I really want to shout out our bartender/server. Didn't get her name but she had round glasses with eyeglass chain attached and was on the shorter side. She was very customer focused, answering all our first-timer questions, attentive, appropriately conversational, and definitely on the ball as she was handling tables too. Top notch service. About those railings: unless there's a special back entrance, the venue may not be wheelchair accessible. There are two or three steps at the entrance, and if you want the bar instead of booth or table, another three or four. Both have sturdy solid handrails. I do not fault them for this; probably the historic building is exempt, but just wanted to note it for anyone needing that info. All in all a five star experience and I hope to return soon.

Character-rich atmosphere with a brick arch inside and a beautiful historic back bar. I'm a bourbon drinker, so didn't try the beer, but was very happy with my Old Fashioned. My e-star burger with mushrooms, Swiss, onions and pickled cabbage was delicious, and the serving of fries was extremely generous. A great spot for dinner with friends.
