Me and two friends came here on Tuesday night. The three of us had a bad day, and we really just wanted some good food and drinks. Drinks: I ordered a cocktail called Coco Loco, and it was really good! My friend got got the Grande Bulldog I think it was called. It was a margarita with a Corona. It tasted like fruit punch haha. I ended up getting one too! Food: -Queso Frito $7 was so good! I was disappointed a bit on the dip because the description said spicy guava, and it really just tasted like sweet guava jam. -Chicharrones de Pollo $10 this was also tasty but the presentation made me want to use a fork (with the toppings) and yet the fried chicken bits were too small to even fork so it was a finger dish for me which was meh when you have to finger pickled onions. The dish and dip were tasty, though. -Carne Asada Tacos $13 my friend said they were good -Tacos De Birria $21. My friend devoured it, so I assume it was amazing. It looked really good!! -Al Pastor Tacos SO SO SO delicious, does not disappoint at all. Also, I want to point out they cut decent slices of lime which is a plus. Some places give such tiny lime slices with no juice! -side of rice had good flavor. Some places with a side of mexican rice can be plain, but this was flavorful. -FLAN $7 Now, I love my flan. Eating flan was what got me to start yelping. I will say I ate it all because the flavors were still there, but the texture was too firm like a bread pudding. My friend even said it tasted like day old flan, so I was bummed about it. Annoying moment was the pressure of rushing. Google said Tuesday they stay open til 12am so we were planning to have another drink. Couple minutes before 11pm I asked what time they closed and they said 11. I mentioned about the 12 and was told that was before pandemic. Need to update that. Even on here, the Yelp says hours are til 1130pm on Tuesdays. So plan your night accordingly and call and ask what time they close. Oh! Service was great and very attentive! read more

Bad date but GREAT FOOD!! Meet up for a first date, had never been, wasn't sure what to expect being on the corner of a shopping center. Walking in, it was quite loud and we ended up by the DJ booth, so the conversation was a bit hard to hear for me. Beyond that though, everything was excellent! Johnny Tequila's certainly has some top-notch food for 2 under $50! The service was excellent. Waitstaff kept the liquor flowing as we ordered between the Margaritas and some tequila shots. The Margaritas were not too sweet, and the tequila was not overpowering. Finished off with a mojito that was well mixed, not too strong on the sugar or mint. For food, we ordered the Empanadas Trio & Ceviche with Tortillas. The Empanadas were delish! Sliced them in half to try each on and simply devoured them way too quickly. The portion size was also generous, which was great because I could not get enough of it. Each was stuffed well and crispy. The Ceviche was hardy, not skimping on the shrimp at all. For dessert, we split churros, and they were simply amazing... warm, crispy, and had the perfect blend of cinnamon and sugar with a warm chocolate dipping that just made the churros ever so heavenly. read more

Visiting NJ for a business trip and this was the closest spot to my hotel. A true hidden gem as it's tucked away in a little shopping center. Cool vibes inside with perfect lighting. The tequila selection was spot on. I only was able to try 1 dish but it was damn good! Thank you bartender Rosalyn (Sorry if I spelled your name wrong). We started with the free guava shots for checking in- off to a great start! The chips and guacamole were good but not great- little more lime needed for guac. The Birria tacos were SO good! I noticed a lot of people eating them at other tables and thought this must be a good sign. They were so crispy and cheesy, the spicy dipping sauce is awesome. The fish tacos were eh- skip! Tasted more of the thick fry coating than the fish inside. Churros were great too- with a dulce de leche and a Nutella sauce. One minus was that for a bar their drink menu wasn't very extensive, and it took them so long to make the second drink we ordered- we already finished our food and we're onto dessert when it finally came out. I've been wanting to try these Birria tacos for the longest time. I finally made it there today and was immediately greeted at the door. The individuals at the front desk were very kind and pleasant and we were seated immediately. The menu is very simple and easy to read. We came in knowing what we wanted and ordered when the waiter brought us over our water. The food came out within 10 minutes of ordering, fresh and hot. While it was fresh and hot, for $21 It was okay... I've had Birria tacos before from other places, and these tasted kind of bland. It was very meaty I will see, that's good and I could taste the tortilla was a corn tortilla, that was very distinct. But bland in my opinion. The rice and beans was ok, just felt like the platter was missing some soul. It looked Delicious, but it tasted okay. Maybe another trip I'll try something else off the menu but that's what I ordered this time. read more

The blue agave is good if you like it sweet. The shrimp tacos were okay but luckily the sauce with the birria tacos were good enough to dip them in. Not pictured was the fried cheese that comes with a guava sauce, that sadly didn't do anything for me. It was just that, fried cheese sticks. The atmosphere seems chill and decor was giving Tex/Mex basic. They do play music so it's a good place to talk. But in the end the place was underwhelming. read more

We walked right in around 12am. Website stated that it closes at 3am, which isn't accurate. It closed at 1:30am. Kitchen was closed when we arrived, so this review is only based on music, decor, and drinks. There is a long bar with about 10 stools. Place had a lived DJ, who played variety of music, the drinks came out quickly, the DJ kept announcing last round encouraging people to order more and the drinks were pretty strong. This place has a lot of culture, gave me a California vibe for some reason, from wresting masked head figures, to hidden quotes and artist painting. I will return to try out the food. read more

This place is cool. I feel like it keeps having different names but the location is always the same. So anyway, I went on a Saturday at around 4:30 PM; not crowded at all, probably about 5-6 tables with people seated. The service however, was as if there was a 1 hr wait, with no seats to spare. WOW. From the time it took to get refills on drinks to getting our table cleaned up to even placing our dessert order, I just cannot believe how long the server took with our table. BUT, I did really love the food. The empanadas were absolutely delicious. The tacos were also filled with meat; I will say that I loved the pork tacos but did not like the chicken tacos at all. The pork was seasoned well but the chicken tasted like it was freshly out of a can or something. I finished off with the churros for dessert and they were pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised. Usually, I say that I come back at a less busy time to see what the service is like it was today but I honestly have no idea when the best time would be. The wife and I were looking for a Sunday Brunch spot near the house and went straight to Yelp. Johnny Tequilla's was close by, had good reviews and the menu looked great. We got there a little before they opened but they let us hang out at the table and gave us some water. We got drinks and guacamole to start. Drinks were good (mimosa and Love & Thunder) and they hit the spot. Guac had nice size chips and was just ok (I've had better). We shared the Tres Golpe (Dominican Breakfast) and it was delicious. Located at the end of a run-down strip mall, it looked pretty inviting, and there were groups of people going in who looked like they were about to enjoy their Friday night. We were short on time and stopped in unexpectedly, but I definitely want to go back and try more things on the menu. I only got to try one of their drinks, so I went with the Peach Fizz. It was super refreshing, and they don't skimp on the vodka. We shared the empanadas, which were super tasty, and came out fresh and hot with a side of a yummy pepper sauce for dipping. We also shared the birria tacos, which came with a large helping of homemade rice and beans. The food was delicious and super filling. Last, we shared the churros, which came with both caramel and Nutella dipping sauces. Our server was super friendly and excited to tell us about all the different specials they offer on different nights. One of my favorite things here is the atmosphere. The music was loud in the best way. The walls are decorated with paintings of sugar skulls modeled after different celebrities. And, the giant painting of Anthony Bourdain near the entrance gave us a hint that we were about to try a meal that Bourdain probably would've enjoyed himself! read more

Come here only for the Birria tacos. Excellent consume, and the rice and beans on the side are a great touch. The tacos are wonderfully crispy, and the beef is tender. Skip the Guacamole, underseasoned and mediocre. Skip the fish tacos as well, nothing to write home about and quite dry. The churros are great though - do go for them! It's unsurprisingly that the Birria tacos are what pretty much everyone orders. I'd eat in if you can, they are pricey so you really want to experience them fresh. For a less expensive option that is 80% as good, try Ebenezer between Cranford and Elizabeth. read more

My fav appetizer is the chicharrones de pollo + the guava margarita is *chefs kiss* ...especially if you upgraded to Casa or another top shelf tequila. Any of the bowls are delish as well. The music is a VIBE if you love R&B/hip hop...especially if you go on a night when there's a live DJ (I think Friday and/or Saturday)! Taking one star off because the bathrooms are HORRENDOUS. Great bar and food! With plenty of seating and TVs, it's a great place to watch a sports game with some friends. I ordered the shrimp tacos on lettuce wraps and it was so fresh, tasty and a good sized portion. Their sangria, both white and red, are excellent. My friends and I stayed for a few hours and had a nice time! Service was a little slow and not as attentive. Extremely disappointed. My family ordered for DoorDash pickup and we have loved this restaurant in the past. Our order was 40 minutes late and instead of being apologetic, the staff was extremely rude. She blamed it on the fact that there is only one food runner when the restaurant was legitimately empty and there were 3 hostess standing there doing nothing. when we finally got our food and brought it home, it was terrible. my chicken bowl was cold, The chicken was dry the rice was cold and hard and there was a gross carrot and wilted green mixture in it. The quesadilla looked like it had been murdered. the chips lacked the usual seasoning and the bag was half full. the guacamole was half full as well. the rude customer service and cold food left us unhappy and unsatisfied. read more

We were surprised at the nachos the last time we were there -- there was little chicken in the chicken nachos and they were topped with a disgusting, cold nacho cheese that seemed like it was scooped right off the floor of a busy movie theatre. When we mentioned our disappointment, we were told "yeah, our regular chef is busy opening a new restaurant." If the chef is going to be going somewhere else...we will be too. read more
