So we didn't actually get to eat here, but we really wanted to. After a couple hours at the children's museum, our children were claiming to be famished. We had an hour left on the parking time, so decided to walk the few blocks over to Johnny Rockets for them to eat. Given that it was Saturday evening on a busy downtown events weekend, the restaurant was pretty full. However, there were lots of open seating at the bar area. The hostess gave us a 10-15 minute wait time, so I asked if we could order to go. There was no way my children were going to make it 10-15 minutes of waiting for a table plus more waiting to order and receive food once seated. Trying to order to go is where the confusion began. The hostess quickly provided me a menu and moved to the next people waiting to be seated. Given that the small waiting area (to the left of the hostess stand) was full, I stepped aside to the right. This placed me right at the edge of the bar where I noticed there were 4 open seats on the end (the exact size of our party). Realizing this, I turned to ask the hostess if we could sit there to eat, hoping to maybe salvage the ability to dine in. Before I could get the question out, there were two other staff members behind the bar, attempting to interact with me. One was telling me that I could not stand there if I wanted to order to go and the other was pure contradictory confusion. I was attempting to ask if they allow children to sit at the bar, to understand if this was even an option for us, but they were making the question into one of whether we could sit at the bar while ordering to go. I clarified a couple of times that I'd like to dine in if children could sit at the bar, but we could never get past their confusion. Don't quote me on this but what *I think* I learned is that children can sit at the bar, but it is at the discretion of the hostess. The hostess seemed a bit flustered and the line was just growing longer, so we opted to simply leave and dine elsewhere. read more

The waiters have no people skills at all. There was a 15 min wait and the entire counter was empty. The tone was very rude. People kept walking in and leaving going to the establishment next door, Rock's Chicken & Fries. I walked out as well. No eye contact with guests and it' was a horrible experience. I was trying to recreate my childhood experience by eating there and the customer service was so low, I wouldn't even want them serving me food with those attitudes. The fries are the best thing here for sure, but the obvious main attraction of this place is the novelty of it being an "old style diner". It has all sorts of cute little things inside like they serve ketchup in smiley faces on plates and stuff like that. If you're going in expecting good food though, lower your expectations as it's wholly unremarkable. They were also out of soda but they said it was because their drink machine was down, so I can't fault them on that. Our waiter also told me we couldn't get weirdly chewy chicken tenders taken off the bill, but after speaking to a manager we got them taken off. The only other Johnny Rockets I have been to was on a cruise, so it was nice to go to a restaurant that wasn't moving on the water and it's much bigger stand alone. It's the go to for a quick hamburger, hot dog, fries, or shakes. I may be missing a couple more things, but you get the point. The Rocket chili dog was the pick and it was a fine choice. It was topped with chili and cheese. No onions with a strawberry banana shake. Being on vacation has its benefits without the calories. Everything was great and did not regret each bite. The location is right in the downtown Atlanta area close by the museums, so it's within walking distance. This staple of Atlanta is just as good as The Varsity. Each of them are unique in their own way, but they are both just as delicious. The atmosphere at Johnny Rockets gives off a 1950s diner and the food that is served goes right along with it. The wait staff is always busy getting orders, but no matter what you order, it'll be good. I got the Hershey strawberry kiss shake with chili cheese fries and my wife got a Coca-Cola with the basic burger. She said it was very good and flavorful. Went to the location on Lucky St. when we walked in we asked if we could sit at the bar and were VERY LOUD AND RUDELY TOLD NO. So they gave us a beeper. seated in about 15 minutes finally started the server was going to seat us at a table close to the bar and the kid behind the bar yelled "no sit them at table 12". it was back at a very little table in the back corner ( we didn't mind). For 10-15 minutes we waited to get our drink order taken. No one came to the table. we asked several waiters over the next 15 minutes if they could take our order and EVERY ONE of them grunted at us and kept walking. We finally got up and left with my husband voicing his opinion. I wish I would have stayed and waited to a manager as I am sure they would not like to hear how horrible the workers were. As an fyi we are in our 60s and caucation and never been treated so rudely. We have no idea what brought this on. We simply came in to eat and were greeted with this. The food was pretty good, especially the grilled chicken sandwich. :) However I was disappointed to not see much diversity at all in their decorations... everyone on the posters was very pale, except for one man. This day in age, that is so outdated! Also, while our server was very friendly and everyone was pleasant, there clearly is not much organization in service procedures. When we were standing at the counter (waiting to check out, which I think we maybe should have done from our table- but even that wasn't clear) 3 servers who were right there didn't even acknowledge us. It was strange. When I said I wanted to pay, one of them flagged down our server even though those 3 were standing around waiting for food from the kitchen. This location was great for us... just a short walk from the tourist attractions like the olympic park, aquarium, and coca-cola factory. Our server was pleasant. It took her a while to come over to the table but she put our order straight in and our plates were out within five minutes. I had the Houston Burger and it was delicious! The spicy sauce on it was great. Also shared the bacon cheddar fries with my friend. We both liked them. Loved our experience coming here for a kid birthday after an Aquarium trip. We had a fairly small party and they were totally fine with us bringing our own cupcakes to blow out candles. They also did a lovely job making the birthday boy feel special with a nice song and sundae. Our veggie burger was tasty and I definitely opted for the Boca burger over the (double the price) Impossible burger. I figured there was a reason the price wasn't on the menu lol.
